Eight
Within the instance of finishing the letter for a third time. Considering Naomi could not believe the words she was reading, she took haste in clearing away her belongings and fleeing the area. She shoved any item that personally belonged to her into her book bag in a way which would irritate her when she next went to take something out. She haphazardly left the books she had been barely paying attention to in a pile on the desk which with the wrong breeze would collapse and spill from the table and onto the floor. She rushed her way down to the Slytherin common room in the dungeons muttering out the password without much of a second thought. Allowing the dark wooden door to swing open she passed the head boy without even a greeting or a second look only taking notice of the shining badge attached to his robes.
Naomi took the stairs to the female rooms two at a time as she hurried in the direction of the room she shared with Astoria and one other girl. Upon entering she was only greeted by Astoria who was lounged out on her bed, the other one which seemed to permanently remain empty was not filled as per usual. Her closest and dearest friend only took one look at the other girl before opening her arms and allowing the significantly taller girl to barrel her way into them.
"Ni, what on earth has happened?" Astoria's medallic voice that matched her enchanting blonde hair and shining blue eyes rung out as she gently pushed at the state her best friend was now in. The Greengrass' were Death Eater sympathisers never exactly part of the ranks or the cause but never ones to step aside when one was in trouble and could do with help hiding away from the ministry. They provided support through financial support on top of their ease in hiding the death eaters in one of their many private homes out in the country. They had after all, considering just how close the two girls were, argued with the Malfoy's to house the Nott Heiress over the previous summer, but had been unsuccessful on the words of Voldemort himself wanting both promised children under the same roof as himself.
"It's Ginevra, she has been questioning the regard to our relationship having to remain private for so long. And now she refuses to see me again until I give her a strong reason, even going as far to say she will call off the relationship if not." Naomi finally shared with her best friend.
"Ginevra, as in Ginny Weasley? That's the girl you've been seeing in secret for the last month or two?" Astoria had never been dumb she knew that her best friend was finally seeing someone, she could tell in the way Naomi was acting that she was now with someone. The way she seemed to have found something good.
"Well Ni, you're going to have to make a choice. You either have to tell her what's really going on, let her find out for herself or you could be an absolute arse and not tell her and just end it during the Christmas break. Though I really wouldn't suggest that last option." Astoria's wise words were normally always something Naomi needed to hear. They were usually what she didn't want to hear, but what she needed. Astoria was never one to hold back at letting you know what was really going on and what effects your behaviour would have if you chose to follow through with the action you were planning to do. Like the sensible voice in your head Astoria was always more like on of those Mum friends than anything else, giving the best advice and making a drink so strong you would regret every decision the next morning. Naomi was aware she had to make a decision regarding the relationship during the Christmas break anyways, for she was almost 100% certain she would never be able to maintain it after the events which were due to occur on her 16th birthday.
The option Astoria presented to her which was the one she least liked but was probably the easiest was to break up with the other girl over the Christmas holiday. Sometime between Christmas and New Year perhaps. She knew it was one which was the most brutal and the signs of someone who never truly cared about their partner. But she thought it would perhaps lead to the two girls experiencing the easier break up of the other options. Sure she could just not tell the other girl what was truly going on and allow Ginny to end it on her own terms and therefore be better with how the pair parted.
Actually that probably made more sense. After all how could you tell someone that you have no choice in joining a military group who wanted to kill thousands of innocent people. That you were going to be one of the murderous tyrants running around the British countryside ruining families. Ginny was to never find out about what was to happen, she couldn't find out. For who could tell just how many people might overhear and who it could get back to. How her brother could be reprimanded for not keeping a closer eye or hold upon his younger sister. And if there was one person she would always fight to protect it would be her older brother. He was the only family she had left that she truly cared about and she wasn't going to let anything happen to him if she could prevent it.
Therefore, she decided to not approach Ginny to answer the younger girls questions. However, she did allow the other girl to approach her at any time. For she would still go to every single one of their prearranged meeting spots when they had scheduled. Never breaking routine she awaited for Ginny to make the call for herself. Just in the hope that she would get one final happy moment with the other girl before she was subjected to the heartbreak that was due to cloud her life for the future unknown.
She was aware of how selfish she was being at this present moment in time. Yet she never got rid of that hope. However, she was met with disappointment every single time. It was not until the 4th December, 8 days since Naomi had received that letter, that Ginny had finally come to seek out the Slytherin. Sure it was earlier than they had intended to meet on normal circumstances but Naomi had been sat outside under the tree where the pair had shared their first kiss for a couple hours now and intended to stay there for a couple hours after their intended meeting time.
For she could not believe her eyes, but sat crossed legged opposite her was none other than Ginny Weasley herself. The stubborn Gryffindor sat there, glare on her face and eyes heavy. Naomi blinked twice, thrice just to see if the image would waver and just become a flicker of her imagination, a vivid daydream. Yet it was real, and man did the red haired teen look enraged.
"Gin?" Naomi found herself questioning the girls presence, the nickname slipping so easily it might have been the common name she called the girl sat opposite her.
"Hello Nott." Naomi was not surprised to be greeted by the usage of her surname rather than her first name. With the amount of aggression it was spoken with she actually preferred it was her surname being spoken. At least when she looked back at this moment she could imagine that there had never been anything soft between the pair prior to this and rather they had been school rivals more than anything else.
"I have come for my explanation, considering it would seem as though you could not be bothered to search me out to do it for yourself. I never thought you were a coward yet alone cunning." Ginny's voice was probably the harshest she had ever directed at Naomi and she finally understood why so many were afraid to be on the bad side of the teen sat opposite her. Ginny had a lot of fight and power within her personality to begin with. And now it was terrifying. But she understood why she was getting this treatment. If the roles had been reversed she was sure she would be reacting in exactly the same manner.
It had never been the fact that Naomi was afraid to make a choice. There was a secondary reason as to why she had avoided actively seeking out Ginny other than letting the girl come to terms with the requirement to end the relationship. She wanted to Basque in the feeling knowing she was dating Ginny Weasley just for a little while longer. But it would appear that time had come to a close.
"I have nothing to explain to you." Naomi responded taking the steps necessary to allow the girl to say the words needed. Her heart screamed at her to just give in and share everything, anything to save this relationship. But her head which was far more logical and aware of the consequences of her current actions knew that this approach was the one she needed to take.
"That's the biggest pile of bullshit I have ever heard." Ginny scoffed at Naomi's words her ears turning red in what Naomi assumed was anger. Though before Naomi even had to try and think of her next words to say to the girl they were interrupted.
"Naomi Jean Nott! What on earth are you doing? Why are your associating with the likes of her? Do you remember what we were told? What he told us to do?" The booming voice of her older brother immediately caused Naomi to jump away from the younger girl and stand turning her attention away from Ginny and the new people who were present.
