Chapter 2

Hannah walked on the chipped and worn out road, passing by brown grass and dead trees. Directing her lime green eyes to the passing by slow and junk-like cars. 'What is the point of owning a car now? It's like buying bread and just throwing it out the window...there isn't any use for them' she thought to herself. Hannah didn't talk much, but had wild conversations in her head. Making up stereotypes and foreign lands. She heard of a place called, "Norway" that was beyond the lands borders. She also heard of a place called, "America, land of the free." And yearned to go there the most. Freedom was her favorite word in the English vocabulary. That word could change so many lives, yet, no one she knew had it, or have even experienced it. She didn't mind living in this Barron land, but like the next person she wanted to see something new.

Hannah was now at the end of this old street and finally came to her destination, home. Her eyes traced every part of the entrance to make sure it hadn't broken apart. The old warn marble with dust, dirt, and sand repaining it. Weeds growing out of every nick and cranny it could, and very thin windows with cracks in them. She walked up the cement steps that had weeds growing all around it and opened her door with difficulty, pushing on it and pushing herself on it to open it. After a minute, it finally budged and she walked into the home. She sluggishly dragged her boots across the warn out hardwood floor and dropped her bags full of somewhat clean water and food in cans. She took a few steps where she could see the intersection between the entrance and the living room to see a younger version of herself, but with shorter hair and freckles listening to the crackling and static radio. "They still play music!" She cried happily. "Even all the way over here! The man is singing about a girl he loves, and how they will travel the world together!" She danced around and hummed in joy. Hannah could only watch and smiled solemnly, this little girls name was Rose-Ann, but just Ann for short. She was 12 and full with of life, she had shoulder length brown hair, pine green eyes and freckles making a mark all over her face. She wore a tattered pink dress and no shoes or socks. Her dress swayed as she danced to the music and giggled as the man sung of love and happiness.

Hannah loved her sister, she really did. If your asking where the parents were, no one could tell you. They left before the entire civilization was gone from exsistence, and they are presumed free and traveling the world. How Hannah missed and despised them, they could've taken Ann, or her, or both. But, they left Ann in Hannah's care. Hannah had to grow up quick, she had to learn how to pay tax, barder, steal, make bets, and make early cash. Ann always offered to help, but Hannah gave her the books she got while school was around, and tried to teach her to read and write, so if they did leave they would both be ready. Hannah always got Ann to read the bible, and they talked about Eden. The place where you could leave this hell, and ascend into heaven. While Hannah was out making money and providing for the two of them. Ann would stay home and educate herself, clean around the house, and make sure no one broke in. She had to deal with the accessional snake or large rodent, but she had to learn to cope. This was real life, and unfortunately you had to deal with it.

Both girls had to learn to be independent, even though some would say they are polar opposites. The suns rays danced on the dusty floor through the thin windows as it set across the blistering horizon. Hannah's tired eyes started to gleem in excitement as she saw the sun set, meaning everything would be at rest. She took her seat on the worn couch, it creaked at the teenagers weight, and creaked more as Ann laid down next to her. Like the desert, it was blistering in the day and frigid at night. Hannah wrapped many blankets over the two of them and laid down on a large pillow as the couch folded and turned into a bed. They rested as their backs and sides were pressed against the springs. Hannah looked out the window to see stars dimming in the sky, and gradually getting brighter by the minute. She turned around to see Ann fast asleep and snoring quietly. Hannah smiled at her sleeping form, and eventually fell asleep herself.
After a few hours the moon hit its peak and showed light at the preserved and forgotten land, and the populated land open to the entire world. Even though Hannah and Ann couldn't see outside the borders, the moon could see all the borders as the Earth spins on its axis. The starts glistened and glimmered in the night sky, making more calm light across the sleeping land, soothing those who had trouble getting to slumber, and those who could fall asleep as they please. Many people are different, no matter where they come from, but, many people are similar, no matter where they come from. It's only a matter of time.
