Chapter 3
"So there I was me and that ol' fox. The barbarian was just asking me to claw its ears off so that's what I did- once, twice, three times! I sent that beast home with it's tail between its legs!" Emberpaw smiled slightly, though getting ticks off the elders wasn't what he expected as his first duty of being an apprentice he was thankful he got to spend the morning hearing Missingfluff recount an epic battle.
"Did it come back?" Emberpaw prompted, teeth clenching around a hard shell as he tugged it out and chewed down, breaking it.
Missingfluffs body relaxed as the tick was removed, "Haven't had a fox problem since." He said proudly, his almost bare tail patting against the ground in satisfaction. "Thank you, yeesh those buggers sure are pests." He arched his back in a stretch before stretching out lazily, his head laying on his front paws.
Emberpaw smiled at the old coot before turning to Barrentooth, "Do I need to do you as well?" He asked, ears twitching.
"No, I'm fine. Missingfluff steals all the ticks away from me." She purred, eyeing the other fondly. He let out a grumble of it not being voluntary and that the she-cat should deal with the problem like he has to but it was clear it was just old banter and nothing ill-intended.
"Emberpaw? There you are," Deertails head poked through the entrance of the old willow tree den. "it's time to show you the territory."
"Oh, okay! Bye." He shot at the elders, making Missingfluff grumble a reply and Barrentooth wave her tail as she laid her head down.
Emberpaw paused in the entrance before charging after Deertail, instantly his relaxed attitude dissipated as he saw Tigerpaw next to his mentor. It was even worse when he noticed his.. father.
His tail tip twitched as he remembered the first time he met the mean gray tom and panic rose in his chest. That morning was going so well too. He was almost tempted to rush into the apprentice's den and hide but Deertail spotted him and waved him over, making the plan useless.
His tail drooped as he shakily moved forward. "S-s-s-s-s-so are we going..." He gulped when he noticed Shadefern eyeing him intensely, "Going.. to.." His ears drooped and his eyes dropped to the floor.
He heard Tigerpaw struggling to contain his laughter and shame made his pelt burn as he shuffled in place. "G-g-going to explore?" He finally mumbled out, though it was slurred Deertail was able to make it out.
"Yep!" She said cheerfully, "Tigerpaw has been to the Island however so he's a bit ahead."
"Isn't he always." Emberpaw muttered bitterly before tensing as he saw Tigerpaw glare at him, amber eyes glittering.
"Wanna say that louder Embermouse?" He spat, fur bristling.
Fear made Emberpaw move away from the bracken tabby, hiding on the other side of his mentor as he glared back at the tom.
Tigerpaw growled and stalked forward when he let out a yowl and whipped around as Shadefern bit into his tail. "Ow!"
"Stop picking fights," He snapped, glaring at his apprentice, "Unless you want to help Heatherspirit all day."
Tigerpaws amber eyes widened in dismay and he nodded obediently, looking away from his mentor. Deertail watched the two silently before she bounded away, "Come on!"
Shadefern gave Tigerpaw a warning look, making the tom flinch before he stalked after the she-cat.
A part of Emberpaw felt bad and he moved slowly, "I-I-I-I-Is your t-tail okay-"
''Don't act all weird, leaf-eater!" Tigerpaw snarled, "This is your fault, your lucky Shadefern has your pelt." He shoved Emberpaw roughly making him stumble before he ran to catch up with the two full grown cats.
Emberpaw stared after him before he sighed, rushing to catch up. It was strange going uphill out of the camp, he pushed passed some of the shrubs that protected the camp and suddenly... he was out in the territory.
Oh StarClan the Greenleaf breeze felt amazing, it hadn't been that hot as it had been breezy the past moon and feeling it ruffle his pelt as he ran.. there was nothing like the feeling.
Amazing? No, too much of a standard term. The tom decided, the thought process was ended as he bumped into Shadefern, making the tom turn, eyeing his son with disinterest. "Keep focused apprentice." He snapped, glaring at Emberpaw.
I'm your son! Emberpaw nodded slowly, following the tom before he trotted up to his mentor. "S-so where are we?"
"The lake!" Deertail exclaimed. Emberpaw stared at the large body of water with wide eyes. It was huge! "This floods in Greenleaf often and it runs into our camp, thankfully the soil there absorbs water well so we can normally return to camp in the next sunrise, though it is still a mild annoyance." Deertail explained, "This is where we train you to swim as the waters near the Island and Sunningrocks are much too rough for new apprentices." Emberpaw blinked as he stared out at the calm body of water. He moved forward next to Tigerpaw who growled at him but he ignored it, much too enraptured with the beauty of the lake. He looked down and noticed a tree trunk covered in moss jutting out. Something brushing against him made him jump and look to his right, noticing cattail waving there in the small breeze. He smiled slightly and sniffed at a lilypad before he pushed it to let it rejoin the others.
"When do we learn that?" Tigerpaw piped up as he batted at the water, getting water on Emberpaws whiskers, his paw twitching when it got wet. He put the wet limb down and stared at Deertail as she sniffed around.
"We normally spend an entire half-moon teaching you how to swim and water combat, but it's very advance. Amberpaw, Pikepaw, and Elmpaw just now started, so you guys have a few more moons to go until you start." Shadefern answered his apprentice, watching Deertail in slight interest. "What are you tracking over there?"
The she-cat looked up, glancing at the gray tom, "Well, I could tell you but that wouldn't be fun. Emberpaw, Tigerpaw, why don't you two give it a go? Tell me what you smell."
Emberpaw froze as Tigerpaw stalked forward, ready for the challenge. "I-I don't think..."
"What is your sense of smell fading?" Shadefern growled, "Go."
Emberpaw squeaked and rushed forward, trembling as he stood next to Tigerpaw. His nose twitched as new scents flooded in but he tried to focus hard.
Fish, plants, cats.. "I smell a patrol." He piped up, making Deertails eyes spark with delight. "Consisting of who?"
"L-Lionpaw... uh.. Quailfleck.. and.." He focused harder, "Appleblaze? And Lilypaw." He knew that scent anywhere, it was sweet like flowers.
"Why so sure on Lilypaw?" Shadeferns comment made Emberpaws fur heat up as he shuffled his paws. "I-I-I mean..it made sense.. I guess." He gulped hard, his deadbeat dad didn't need to know of his crush on Lilypaw.
"So you aren't positive?" Shadefern raised a brow, eyes narrowing.
"I am!" Emberpaw cried indignantly, "I-I know Lilypaws scent anywhere!"
He froze as Shadefern smirked knowingly. His heartbeat raced as he stared forward. His paws trembled and he sank to the ground, tears pouring out his eyes as fear and panic overflooded him. He felt amber eyes staring at him with disbelief, "Do you really think Lilypaw would notice a loser like you?" Tigerpaw hissed.
"Redflare noticed Shadefern." Deertail retorted, not giving embarrassed Emberpaw a chance to speak. The gray warrior scowled at the jab, making the white spotted she-cat scoff, "Don't give me that look, that was low Shadefern, even for you." She nosed her apprentice, licking the tom in an attempted to calm him down.
The tom snorted, "It was a joke, I didn't expect him to have a panic attack."
Deertail snapped her head up, "He's your son, you know full well he has panic attacks!" She growled in annoyance, making the toms shoulders tense. She rolled her eyes before Emberpaw stood shakily.
"I-I-I-I-I-I'm o-o-o-o-okay." He was lying but no one else had to know that. The tom side-eyed Tigerpaw, who was now getting assessed by his mentor, saying he scented mouse and Crabfoot.
He knew the brown tom was most definitely going to tell Lionpaw about today and right now he was convinced that drowning was better than dealing with getting teased about a crush he knew was hopeless.
Great StarClan he wanted to die. His emerald eyes stayed trained on the ground, not daring to look up. It was amazing how a simple thing like this could ruin his entire day, today was suppose to be a good day but apparently not.
His tail flicked with frustration as anxiety built in his chest, making it slightly hard to breathe. He let out a cough and looked up, ears pricked when he noticed that Deertail, Shadefern, and Tigerpaw were retreating.
Wait for me! He thought, panicking as he rushes forward catching up to the gang quickly. "W-w-w-w-w-w-where are we.. uh.." Emberpaw gulped down the lump in his throat, "Where are we uh....g-going?"
"We're heading towards camp and back to the Island." Shadefern explained, not looking at the red tom. "It's where we train for battle."
"It's where warriors train for battle, not you." Tigerpaw corrected, smirking at the hurt look he received from Emberpaw before a sharp look from Deertail made him quickly add, "Kidding! Don't you dare cry."
Emberpaw knew he was lying, he could see the cockiness shining in Tigerpaws amber eyes but he made no comment, he couldn't. No one cared or bothered to listen to him so why talk?
That thought made him pause, sadness running through him like a BreezeClan cat but he wasn't allowed to dwell on it as Deertail glanced back. "Emberpaw come on! We're almost there."
The 'paw' sighed shakily, shoving the thought away best he could before rejoining the group. He gazed around, taking in the beauty of DeltaClan territory. He glanced behind him and saw the faint dip in the landscape that led into the camp. It wasn't a sharp decline, only a couple of fox-lengths below from the rest of the territory. It was pretty well hidden as well, surrounded by bushes and Weeping Willows. He couldn't see the lake, but he could make out the very faint outline of the body of water. It was very green as well, the grass here grew thick and soft and felt like kits fur underneath his paws. The sun felt warm on his back and made him relax as he took in the scenery.
"It's beautiful isn't it?"
He jumped at Shadeferns voice and stared up at his father. He gazed around wildly, noticing that Deertail and Tigerpaw had disappeared.
"They went ahead while you were looking around, I don't blame you for admiring, DeltaClan territory is gorgeous." Shadeferns tail twitched as he looked around, a relaxed look on his face.
"It... It is.." Emberpaw breathed nervously. "How.. How different was RiverClan territory?"
Shadefern chuckled, "It was much smaller, but you have to realize Twolegs made major changes to the landscape before they gave up." He pointed to the east, "Over there is BreezeClan territory, it's mostly unchanged other than them leveling the dirt over the river destroying the Gorge that was once there. Now it's just a fast river." Emberpaw let out a small hum, before Shadefern adverted his attention once again. "And I guess they built a small depression in the ground and filled it with stone. Then they realized how waterlogged the entire area was and left."
"Twolegs seem.. well... they seem stupid." Emberpaw admitted, feeling slightly bad about insulting the creatures.
Shadefern let out a snort, "They're crazy! All of them, they don't think before they do something, this area is littered with rivers I don't know what they expected." He smirked at his son before he let out a sigh, a guilty look on his face. "Hey uh.." Emberpaws ears perked in interest, showing the gray tom he was listening. "I'm sorry about what I did when you were a kit. I guess I was.. scared, my father never cared about me he didn't even like me so I didn't know."
Emberpaw blinked, staring at his father before he sighed, "It's.. it's not okay.. but.. I guess I can forgive you?" He murmured, tail twitching at the thought.
"I don't deserve forgiveness, but thank you Emberpaw." He pressed his nose against the toms head before getting up, "Come on, Deertail is waiting."
The red tom nodded, getting up as he rushed towards his father. "Woah." He gasped, eyes widening as he stared out. Rushing water rang in the toms ears and the scent of cleanliness and fish made his mouth water. His eyes swept around, bushes were sparse as were any sort of shrub near water. He looked down and noticed that unlike the lake, no cattail grew here.
"W-where i-i-i-is the-"
"Cattail?" Deertails voice made him jump, and look up at his mentor. "There was some but I guess the river swept them away." She nodded down the river that led out to unused and unneeded territory.
"So how do we get across?" Tigerpaw asked, "There's an island." He pointed to a grassy landform that was separated from the rest of the territory.
Emberpaw looked around before he noticed a tree trunk making a bridge. "T-t-t-t-t-t-t-there." He pointed to the makeshift bridge. Tigerpaw tossed his head back and eyed it, "Don't be dense," Emberpaw flinched and pressed against the ground, he shouldn't have said anything, he should have kept his mouth shut. "that can't hold u-"
"Actually, it can." Shadefern corrected his apprentice, cuffing his ear making him flinch. "Don't be rude, he's a Clanmate."
"You don't even like him." Tigerpaw hissed, glaring at his mentor, "Why are you saving his hide?"
Shadeferns eyes flashed with anger, his claws unsheathed and instantly Deertail weaved between the gray tom and his light brown tabby apprentice. "Shadefern is Emberpaws father, of course he cares about him. I suggest you keep your mouth shut, Tigerpaw or I'll make sure Shadefern puts you on elder duty for the next moon."
The tom glared at the small she-cat before he huffed, looking away.
The she-cat purred in satisfaction before she gestured for Emberpaw, who was shaking and pressed to the ground. The tom slowly crawled to his mentor, belly fur still touching the ground. He looked up at Deertail who licked his head before she padded off, he followed and glanced behind him, noticing that Shadefern and Tigerpaw seemed to be in a heated argument, his fathers fur bristled and his tail was lashing. Tigerpaws hackles were raised and as he turned his nose up Shadefern butted him roughly with his head, making him stumble. Letting out a squeak, Emberpaw rushed forward, catching stride with his mentor. He blinked at the trunk, the doubt of Tigerpaw had made him less positive about crossing, though he wasn't stoked on it anyway.
He backed away, staring at the trunk in fear as he trembled.
"I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I.... I can't.." He stammered. Deertail frowned and jumped onto the trunk. "You can't let the doubts of a jerk Clanmate get to you Emberpaw, trust in yourself."
"I can't!" Emberpaw cried, "I.. I can't-"
"You won't." Deertail hissed, eyes narrowing. "Come on Emberpaw! You can do it, believe in yourself."
How?! I'm pathetic! Emberpaw thought in dismay as tears poured from his eyes. "H-h-how can I..." He looked at his mentor, "How can I believe in myself when everyone else doesn't?"
"Who's to say they don't?" He jumped at Appleblazes mew, he tensed when he saw Lilypaw emerge, her cool blue eyes looking into his own emerald ones. His breath got caught in his throat when she smiled slightly when she mouthed 'You can do it!' before Lionpaw came trampling through the foliage. "L..Lilypaw did you see me almost get that mouse! I was this close!" He gasped, his chest heaving. Her ear twitched as he sat a bit too close and stared at her.
Emberpaw looked down as Appleblaze padded forward, "Come Emberpaw, you can do it."
The tom looked at the trunk shakily, fear pulsating through him before Lilypaws gentle mew met his ears. "Are you scared?"
He tensed, "N-no!" He cried, an obvious lie he knew as he turned and eyed his denmates. Lionpaw was eyeing him in disbelief, Tigerpaw was rolling his eyes and mocking him, and Lilypaw was eyeing him in... concern?
No!
He glared at them angrily, tail lashing as anger twined with his fear. He grimaced as he eyed the trunk before jumping on it.
"I'm not scared." He hissed, creeping forward. "I'm not scared!" He growled again, but doubt slipped into his mind, making him significantly less sure.
"I...I'm not scared.." He said his mantra again as his paws trembled underneath him. Fast water rang in his ears and he instantly closed his eyes. Don't look down, don't look down! He told himself.
"I'm...not..." His eyes slowly opened as tears pricked in them, he looked behind him and noticed he was only half-way. Don't look d...own- MROW!
The water was vicious and could easily tear him into pieces. He let out a yowl of fear making Deertail freeze in place, "Emberpaw!" She yowled as she charged forward. Her eyes grew wide in horror as she notice her apprentice back up quickly, eyeing the water terrified. A scene played out in front of her and everything seemed to go in slow motion.
Emberpaw backed up quickly, his hindpaws meeting hard wood until his left leg met air. His body lurched to the side and his front paws scrambled, claws unsheathing as they tried to cling into the bark of the tree but as they met air he felt himself falling.
"AH!" He screeched. His body instantly went limp as he freefell through the air. He stared forward, seeing the face of his mentor staring at him in fear. Only rushing air and water, as well as the racing of his heart and blood pumping through, rang in his ears. He looked down and saw that the water was rapidly approaching.
Tears poured and floated around him before he squeezed his eyes shut as he plunged into darkness.
He almost let out a scream with how cold everything was. He let out a soft and silent yowl as his body was snatched in the current, he opened his eyes, pupils narrowing as he stared around in the darkness. He tensed when he saw rocks and began to scramble, his lungs burned as he couldn't breathe and he broke the surface.
"HELP!" He yowled staring up at the bank in desperation. Appleblaze and Deertail yowled something but it was in vain as the water took him in its cold prison once again.
I'm going to die... Emberpaw thought and what was the scariest about that was the fact that no fear flooded through him for once, only an eerie calmness. He had to keep fighting, that's what his mind told him but his heart and body didn't want to listen. Why fight when it was so easy to give up? That thought made him stop flailing, his eyes growing half lidded as the light left them.
All the fight and strength he had left him as he became limp. His lungs screamed for air but he chose to ignore it. The edges of his vision began to fade to black and everything became blurrier than it was. His heartbeat echoed in his head, rattling it before all he could see was black.
"Young one, you must keep fighting!"
It didn't matter.
"Young one, please! The surface! Go to the surface!"
It didn't matter. I'm better off in StarClan anyway.
"Emberpaw, you're story has yet to begin, fight! For Lilypaw!"
Lilypaw..
Emberpaws eyes slowly began to open but it was hazy and took so much energy...
They closed.
"For Deertail!"
Deertail..
His eyes opened again a bit wider but he was so weak that they fell once again.
"For Redflare!"
Redflare.. Redflare? Redflare!
His eyes flew opening as he screamed, bubbles coming from his mouth. His paws flailed as he tried to swim to the surface.
"Young one.. listen to me, just calm down. You're a DeltaClan cat! You can do this! It's like walking, one paw after the other. Kick your legs! Feel the water between your toes."
Emberpaw was scared, who was this voice? Who are you! His mind screamed.
"That doesn't matter, stay alive! Swim up!"
Emberpaw nodded and began to stroke his paws, back legs kicking as he did. His body seemed to know what to do as it fell in formation.
"That's it! A little more!"
Emberpaw felt strength rush through him, his muscles screamed for him to stop, just let the water take it back in it's freezing and silent grasp but he ignored it. He gritted his teeth as he desperately swam to the surface.
He smiled as he saw a blurry face reach in and teeth grab his scruff.
It was fast as he was tugged onto the short bank near the rushing river and he let out a gasp. His lungs felt as though they were on fire and he collapsed. He couldn't breathe and his eyes grew small as his claws reached out, twitching, desperately as he tried to cling to life.
"He's going into shock!" That was Quailfleck.. "We need Heatherspirit! Quick!"
"Lionpaw! Go get her now-"
"I got it!" the huge she-cat blinked in shock when she saw the gray form of Berrywish slide down the bank. "I can do this!" She snatched some Goatweed from the side of the steep and walked over to the trembling and stiff tom.
She opened his mouth and shoved the plant into his mouth, kneading on his throat until he swallowed. Emberpaws eyes were still flickering and that's when Berrywish tensed. "He's having a seizure!" She gasped before rushing forward, licking the soaked tom. She eyed him worried as he snarled and his eyes rolled in the back of his head, foam gathering in his mouth as he shook involuntarily. He twitched and trembled before the herb seemed to counter effect the seizure. He slowly calmed down and twitched, his eyes coming back into focus as he coughed.
Everything hurt and his lungs stilled burned as he gulped down air greedily.
Berrrywish pressed against the tom and licked his ear. "Quailfleck, press against him, we need to warm him up." She ordered, tail tip twitching.
The she-cat nodded and pressed the tom as well, he let out a broken purr before he heard a rock hit the stone pavement. He looked up and saw Heatherspirit, Lilypaw next to her.
"Are you okay? Have you been eating your herbs?" She demanded, before she shook her head. "Doesn't matter." She said tersely, "You had a seizure." She sounded so angry, Emberpaw looked up groggily, shame rushing through him. He was so out of it, he couldn't regconize the sharp scent of fear coming off her in waves.
"I'm sorry.." He mumbled, ears drooping.
Heatherspirit stared at him, blue eyes wide before they softened with.. affection? Emberpaw couldn't tell. "Oh Emberpaw... this isn't your fault.." She murmured, rushing forward. Her nose touched his before she withdrew sharply, fear in her eyes but it faded. "Who calmed him down? Who knew what to give him?"
"Me." Berrywish murmured, looking up at the medicine cat, "I saw the seizure too."
The she-cat turned to the smaller one, a surprised twinkle in her eye. "I see." Emberpaw didn't know what emotions were in that look the medicine cat had, he didn't care really, he just wanted to see his mom. "Well thank you."
Berrywish nodded happily before she looked at the tom. "You must be exhausted, let's get you to camp."
"But I haven't seen the whole territory.." Emberpaw weakly complained as he was lifted by Quailfleck.
"The territory isn't going anywhere, nothing you won't see tomorrow." Quailfleck said through his fur. She padded up the side of the steep and set him on the grass.
Deertail rushed forward, "Oh Emberpaw! I'm so sorry!" She cried, worry in every little body movement she made.
"S'all right." Emberpaw drawled, looking down. He eyed the two bracken tabbies, noticing they were eyeing him.
"What." He spat, fur bristling as his lip twitched, "Have something to say?"
Lionpaw and Tigerpaw both flinched at his tone, backing up as they both looked down, ears pressed to their heads.
Emberpaw only looked away, not caring that he might have hurt their feelings. After all the turmoil they caused him they deserved it.
He felt no triumph nor guilt, only anger and frustration that he completely made a fool of himself. Tears prickled in his eyes and he tried to stand, but his muscles only gave out as he collapsed on his side weakly.
He only huffed and closed his eyes, "Just leave me to the buzzards." He growled, glaring at a blade of grass.
He felt the group around him flinch and felt someone pushing underneath him, as though to give a badger ride. He blinked in slight confusion before he looked down, noticing that it was Shadefern.
He decided to keep silent and succumb to the overwhelming tiredness he felt.
"Young one.."
His eyes flew open, he was alone in the territory but that didn't make sense, he was getting taken to camp, wasn't he?
He looked around, everything was beautiful and perfect. He padded forward, his ears taking in the sounds of the birds and frogs around him. He smiled slightly as he gazed around, the warm sun beating on his back as he stood atop a ridge, the wind ruffling through his fur as he stared down at similar looking cats. He blinked in slight confusion as he rushed down, feeling power coarse through his veins before he skidded to a halt, laughing a bit.
He looked down and froze when he saw his shadow morph into a horrific shape of himself but different. A jagged smile and evil came off it in waves. He stared in paralyzing fear as it rose from the ground, towering over him as it lunged forward jaws engulfing the red tom.
"NO!" He shot up and gasped as he fell off his father who jumped at his outburst.
"You are the most dangerous one here, young one." The voice echoed in his head, making him whimper.
"W-w-w-w-who are you? Come out here!" He snarled to open air, emerald eyes gazing around in hysterics. He whipped around, staring at nothing before he looked down, tears pouring from his eyes.
"Where are you?" He asked softly and in defeat.
"Emberpaw? Where is who? Who are you speaking too?" That was Redflare, he looked up suddenly. Eyes sweeping around as the entire Clan stared at him with some scared, mostly confused eyes.
"I'm not crazy!" He suddenly cried, surging up, "I was in the territory, there were birds and frogs and the sun beamed on my back!" He gasped, he had to get this out. "And I was on a ridge, with you guys looking up at me! All of you were the same though, I mean the pelts weren't but.. the look and feeling from you, I don't know." He paced, "And I.." He dropped, remembering his morphing shadow.
"I..." He saw two drops dampen and darken the ground as he cried.
"You what?" Redflare asked gently, moving forward to stand in front of her son as she dipped her head to get on his level.
He looked up again, the Clan was muttering and looking at him weirdly. Shadefern seemed a bit standoffish as he backed away, Lionpaw and Tigerpaw only rolled their eyes, muttering to each other and.. Lilypaw.
Lilypaw was only eyeing him in concern.
She must think I'm crazy. They all do.
He let out a growl, claws digging into the ground, "I nothing." He spat at his mother before he turned his back on her.
Redflares eyes widened at her sons behavior, "Emberpaw..?" She whispered, "Emberpaw come on, you can tell me anything, you know that.."
"You wouldn't believe me, you don't believe me! You still think I'm your kit!" Emberpaw hissed, "Everyone thinks I'm a kit but I'm not!" He stared up, fat tears rolling down his cheeks. "I-I-I-I-I'm a warrior! I.. just.. I'm weird! I-I'm not normal, I have to eat plants every day! I guess Lionpaw and Tigerpaw are r-right to call me a plant-eater and a mouse!" He trembled as he couldn't stop himself from talking- why couldn't he stop himself from talking? He wasn't a talker but something in his mind had snapped. "I just.."
"Stop trying to be something you're not Emberpaw, so what if you not like us that's a good thing-" His mother tried to comfort him but that only angered the tom further.
"No, it's not!" He snapped, "I just... I just wanna be like you guys.." His ears drooped before he turned, closing his eyes tight, "But I guess that'll never happen." He stood and shoved past Tigerpaw and Lionpaw who stared at him in shock. He dipped inside the Nursery and curled in the corner next to the entrance, a hiding spot he had when he was younger.
Just another day of being him.
