Washington D.C.

December 30, 09:16 EDT

The team was gathered in the library of the Hall of Justice with new member Rocket watching the newest members of the Justice League be welcomed into the League on television.

"You are watching live coverage of the induction of the Justice League's five newest members. It looks like the entire League has shown up to welcome the new blood, everyone from Batman to Captain Marvel." The news reporter was saying on the television as the team stood around watching.

"I'm glad they didn't kick Billy out. And I love that there is a ten year old in the League." Wally laughed, munching on an apple.

"There is?" Raquel asked, hands on her hips.

"Way to keep a secret, genius." Robin elbowed Wally.

"Hey, she's on the team now, right?" Wally shrugged, chewing more apple.

The reporter told the camera that Superman was passing out official League membership cards. Raquel complained that she was the one to convince her mentor, Icon, to become a hero so she should be out there celebrating with him. Kaldur agreed.

"Well, I suppose there's an upside too." Raquel checked Kaldur out.

Wanda giggled into her hand, having caught the interaction. Pietro looked at her and she mouthed that she would tell him later.

"Way to go Roy!" Wally cheered when Green Arrow gave Red Arrow his card.

Robin's watch beeped with an alert and he checked it out, telling everyone what it said. "We have a mission. Come on, let's go."

"Wait, I thought Batman gave us our missions?" Raquel asked.

"You'll learn quickly that we do things off book as well." Pietro reassured her, chasing after the rest of the team as they ran towards the zeta tubes to the mountain. The team suited up, rushing to the bioship.

Smokey Mountains

December 30, 10:48 EDT

"A-are you sure its her? I mean are you absolutely positive?" Artemis asked after Robin filled the team in on the mission details. Wanda gave her a look.

"See for yourself. This is the security footage from the Ashville Regional Airport. Facial recognition confirms that's Jade Nguyen." Robin had pulled up images and videos on the screen at the front of the bioship. "But you've seen her without her mask, what do you think?"

"It's Jade. Cheshire." Artemis sighed.

"Focus on what she carries. Is that the case you saw in New Orleans? The one that got away?" Kaldur asked, looking to Wanda.

"Yes."

Rocket asked what was so important about the case. Robin and Kaldur filled her in on the Injustice League and their allies scheming ways. M'gann announced that they were approaching Cheshire's jet. When they were above it, it was a crash site. Artemis looked away, a pained expression on her face.

"Looks like there was no survivors."

The team made their way down to the crash site, rummaging through the wreckage. Pietro asked why authorities weren't all over it when Zatanna explained that Cheshire was a League flag and Robin had hacked the League system to get the alert first, that Cheshire was flying literally under the radar.

"Where are the bodies?" Superboy asked, tossing a wing out of the way.

"Here's one. And it is stunning." Everyone looked to see Cheshire standing there holding the case. Artemis smiled slightly.

"I am flora, not fauna. I am foliage, not trees. What am I?" Everyone turned their attention upwards to see the Riddler standing their with League of Shadow foot soldiers, holding Apokoliptian technology. He snapped his fingers and rods emerged from the ground, creating a forcefield around the team. "Come on you can get this. I am shrubbery, not grass. What am I? I-"

"Ambush." Robin deadpanned.

"Didn't you think we'd be tipped you were on Cheshire's trail? We're tired of your interference kiddies, this is the endgame. Ordered from above and executed by their master strategist, moi."

Is everyone linked up?

Yes.

Good. Attack.

Everyone jumped into battle, Zatanna calling out a backwards spell to create a blizzard within the forcefield. Kid Flash and Quicksilver sped around, hitting the foot soldiers at super speed. Artemis went after Cheshire, firing explosive arrows in her path. Cheshire dropped the case she was holding.

Superboy, the pilons.

Working on it.

Rocket flew around hitting the foot soldiers. Scarlet Witch fired psionic bolts at the mountain that the Riddler and Shimmer were standing on, creating an avalanche and knocking them down. She noticed Artemis was in the path, yelling at her to move but saw Cheshire tackle her out of the way.

The battle wrapped up quickly, the team taking the victory.

Mount Justice

December 30, 15:45 EDT

The team brought back the case to the mountain and the Justice League, Batman telling them they did a good job. He said he was taking the case to the Watchtower for further study, the members of the Justice League following behind him.

Batman, wait.

Batman paused in his step.

Yes, Wanda?

Has there...has there been any progress in finding a cure for me?

We are still working on it.

Batman...I have fifty days left to live...

We are working on it. It takes time.

Which I don't have. You said you were making this a priority, you promised.

I have to go. I'm sorry.

Wanda watched as Batman left through the zeta tubes, her body trembling.

"Wanda, are you okay?" Artemis asked, looking at the shorter girl. "You're shaking."

"I am alright." Wanda smiled at Artemis.

Kaldur stated that Cheshire and Riddler were tipped and Pietro groaned. "Not the mole thing again."

"Mole thing? Again?" Raquel asked, looking at everyone confused.

"We had intel that their was a traitor on the team."

"Basically anyone but Kaldur, Robin, or Kid Flash because they had been in the game for years. Or Zatanna." Superboy grunted.

"It is more complicated than that." Kaldur put a hand on Conner's shoulder and he brushed him off. "But recent behaviors do concern me."

"Like what?" Conner asked, right before grabbing his head and groaning. He was silent for a moment before turning to the team. "There's something I need to do. Something I need to tell you. Last month, on Thanksgiving, I went back to Cadmus, found a few things out. When I was cloned, only half the DNA was Superman's. The other half was human. That's why I'll never have full Kryptonian powers."

"You did today." Robin pointed out.

"I've been using these, shields, they surpress my human DNA. They give me the flight, heat vision, but I think I also get angrier. I'm sorry."

"Where did you get those?" Kaldur asked. Wanda had a feeling she already knew.

"From Lex Luthor, my human father. He summoned me to Santa Prisca." Conner confessed.

"Ah, listen. Superboy's not the only one suffering from bad DNA." Artemis sighed, walking over to the computer. She pulled up three different profiles. Huntress, Sportsmaster, and Cheshire. "My mother is Huntress, an ex con. The rest of my family aren't even ex. My dad's Sportsmaster, and he is sending my sister, Cheshire, to fly me to Santa Prisca too."

"You aren't your family, Artemis. You're one of us." Robin assured her.

"Who's next?" Wally asked.

Wanda felt her stomach do a flip.

"I am." M'gann whispered.

"I was totally kidding." Wally stage whispered to Pietro.

"You see, I'm not really a green Martian...I'm a white Martian." M'gann transformed her body into her true Martian form. "I was so afraid of what you would all think of me, and since we are all confessing things, I figured I should tell you all. I'm sorry."

Zatanna looked at Wanda curiously. "Is that everyone who needs to confess something?" Wanda looked down at the ground. Zatanna sighed. "Alright then, so we send these two to Santa Prisca to find out what the Injustice League's friends want?"

"And the rest of us go as back up in the bioship." Kaldur concluded. The team went to the bioship, getting in to head to Santa Prisca.

Santa Prisca

December 30, 17:57 ECT

Conner and Artemis arrived on Santa Prisca separately as arranged while the rest of the team landed by bioship, hiding in the woods of the island to watch what was happening. They watched as Artemis feigned shock at seeing Superboy there and vice versa, both of them playing their parts.

"My boy, you are a terrible liar. Red Son." Lex Luthor said the trigger words that were supposed to render Conner under his control, but M'gann had undid the programming, making the words just words. "I see the Martian undid the programming I had implanted in you."

"Yeah, and made sure I was rescued from Cadmus before you could implant anymore." Conner smirked, going to punch Luthor only for Mercy, his body guard, to jump in the way.

"We know you are out there, kids, come out and play." Queen Bee called out, watching as the team emerged from the woods in fighting stances. She grinned. "There, that's better. Now that you have deduced that the Injustice League was just a decoy we used to throw you off our trail, why don't we put all our cards on the table? After all, I think the time has come for that. Don't you agree?"

Wanda nodded subtly as she got her orders telepathically from Queen Bee. As her team went to attack the Light members and their allies, Wanda flung her hands towards her friends, encasing them in her mist and halting their actions. They stared wide eyed at her, looks of shock and betrayal on their faces.

"Wanda, how could you? We accepted you, we brought you into our home, into our hearts!" Wanda flinched at M'gann's words, avoiding everyone's eyes.

"Yes, but you and the Justice League could not do the one thing she needed the most." Lex put a hand on Wanda's shoulder.

"And what is that?" Robin spat.

"Save her life." Lex grinned maliciously at the confused looks on the team's faces. "Do you want to tell them, Wanda, or should I?"

"Wanda, sister, what is he prattling on about?" Pietro's voice shook as he spoke.

"I...I am dying. I have less than fifty days to live." Wanda glanced up at her team, looking away just as quickly. "They promised me a cure if I helped them. I'm sorry."

"Well, its a little late for sorry, Witch." Conner growled.

"This is all very tense, but we have other matters to tend to. Wanda, kill them."

Wanda gasped, looking at Queen Bee. "Y-you promised that they would all be given an opportunity to join! You haven't even offered!"

"Fine. Work for us or die." The team all grit out that they'd rather die. "See? Now kill them, Wanda."

Wanda stood there with her friends encased in her power, her mind going faster than Pietro or Wally could run. She looked at Queen Bee. "No. I-I can't. I won't." Queen Bee tsked holding up a remote. Wanda's eyes widened when she realized what it was. "N-"

Queen Bee pressed the button and Wanda screamed, falling to her knees. She clutched her head as white hot pain filled her body, blurring her vision as tears poured out of her eyes, mixing with the blood leaking from the orifices in her face. Her head pounded as her bones ached to the marrow.

Then, just as quickly as it started, the pain stopped. She looked up to see Queen Bee glaring at her. "Want to revise your answer, Wanda? I just shaved five days off your life span."

"My life is not worth more than theirs. I'd rather die than kill any of them."

"Then die you shall." Queen Bee pressed the button again and Wanda was on her hands and knees, coughing up blood and bile. She grit her teeth, sending a tendril of her power through the ground to where Queen Bee stood. Using her powers, she grabbed the remote from her hands, breaking it. "Fool! That remote also powered the head piece's healing factor."

"I. Don't. Care." Wanda grunted, ripping the head piece off. She released her friends from her mist, collapsing fully on the ground.

Queen Bee chuckled. "You may not work for us, Wanda, but you gave us another agent while you did. Megan, almiriykh al'abyad."

Miss Martian blinked at her. "Why did you say 'white Martian' in Arabic to me?"

Queen Bee looked furious. "You said that was her trigger phrase, that that would activate her!"

Wanda smirked, her vision doubling. "I lied. I never planted any programming in M'gann."

"Why you-!"

"Queen Bee, we have to go." Lex Luthor said, tugging on her arm.

"You aren't going anywhere." Kaldur jumped in their path.

"Young man, if you wish to detain me, speak to my lawyer." Lex huffed. "Mercy, if you will."

The team jumped into battle with the allies as Lex, Queen Bee, and Mercy slipped away. The fight didn't last long as Kaldur broke out Apokoliptian technology, using it with Raquel to take the henchmen down.

Once all the henchmen were secured, they turned to Wanda, who was standing there with her hands outstretched in front of her, palms facing the ground.

"What are you doing?" Artemis asked.

"Waiting for you to restrain me as well." She replied, her eyes lowered to the ground.

"Why?"

"Because I betrayed y-"

"No, I mean why didn't you tell us? We had a whole confessional session and everything!"

Wanda flinched. "Batman...he told me not to tell anyone on the team. That it would cause unnecessary distractions in the field."

"Wait, Batman knew?!" Robin's eyes widened. Wanda nodded. "So, who were you really working for?"

"Batman. He had me gathering intel on the Light, as much as I could, every time I met with them, which wasn't often. I told him right away, as soon as they approached me back in October. I told him everything." Wanda sighed. "He didn't want anyone to know because of the whole mole investigation, which I am a traitor, but I was never a mole."

"Kind of looks that way from where we're standing." Conner grunted.

"If you were working for Batman, how come you listened to the Light's orders? Why didn't you just betray them?" Artemis asked.

Wanda looked to the ground. "I...had a moment of weakness. I doubted Batman's abilities to find a cure for me in what little time I have left, so I thought if I got the cure from the Light and then betrayed them, everything would be fine. I realize how stupid that sounds."

"Wanda...you shouldn't trust those guys. You probably aren't even dying-"

Wanda cut Robin off with a look. "I am. Batman has run extensive tests on my DNA. I truly have only a month and a half left."

"What's...what's wrong?"

Wanda took in a shuddering breath. "I found out that it was the Light that ordered mine and Pietro's creation, much like Conner's. We were supposed to be the 'next step' in human evolution. Anyways, once the Light found out what powers I possessed, Klarion decided to imbue me with his chaos magic in hopes of making me stronger. But in doing so, he destabilized my cells. I am now decomposing. And every time I use my powers, the rate at which my cells are decaying increases. The stronger the usage of power, the faster the decomposition."

"That's why you would bleed so much!" Robin exclaimed. "How do we stop it?"

"The Justice League is supposedly working around the clock to find a cure, however, I doubt they will find one in time."

"Don't say that!" Pietro cried out. "We will find a cure for you, no matter what."

"Pietro...I have come to terms with this. I am not going to make it to our birthday." Wanda smiled. "Don't worry, I still got you a present."

"The only present I want is for you to live." Pietro hugged Wanda tightly, tears streaming down his face. "You should've told me."

"I'm sorry, 'tro. I really am." Wanda whispered, hugging him back.

The team stood around watching the two siblings hug, not sure if this could be called a victory.
