chapter seven

What's up with Wanda? We may find out more during this chapter...or not. Who knows. Not me.

Also,  above is Wanda's new outfit, minus the cleavage hole. Her old one was her Age of Ultron outfit, for reference.

Mount Justice

August 27, 18:00 EDT

After the disastrous mission against Clayface in Gotham, the team decided they needed some downtime, so they all went their separate ways. Robin went to Gotham, Wally to Central City, Kaldur to Atlantis, and Artemis to...well, she didn't say, but that left M'gann, Pietro, Superboy, and Wanda at the mountain.

M'gann was in the kitchen looking through a cookbook while Superboy sat on the couch watching static. Pietro and Wanda walked into the joint room, staring at the television in confusion.

"You...want to turn that on?" Pietro inquired, furrowing his brow further when Superboy declined. Wanda wandered into the kitchen to see what M'gann was doing. "Okay, well, what're we watching?"

Superboy just grunted.

Wanda stood on her tip toes to see over M'gann's shoulder, looking at the cook book. "What're you making?"

"Haven't decided yet." M'gann hummed, using her telekinesis to float ingredients around the kitchen. "Want to help me?"

Wanda shrugged. "Sure, be more entertaining than watching static." Pietro and Superboy grumbled at her. Wanda looked at the ingredients M'gann had gathered, deciding to chop up some onions. She turned when M'gann started talking to her.

"So...not to pry, but I sensed some...distress, coming from you after our mission against Klarion. Do you...want to talk about it?" M'gann asked quietly, working on the tomatoes.

Wanda felt herself pale. She bit her lip nervously, looking up at the two boys in the other room.

How much do you know?

M'gann's eyes widened slightly and she almost sliced her finger.

Well, I didn't know you could do that. But, I don't know much. Only that you are in great psychological turmoil.

That's an understatement.

Can I be of any help?

Wanda paused, staring down at the onion.

I don't know if anyone can, M'gann.

Try me.

Pietro...Pietro doesn't even know this.

That you are a telepath?

No, no, he knows that.

Then what is it. Wanda, you can tell me anything.

M'gann put the knife down and walked over to Wanda, placing a hand on her shoulder. Wanda looked at the hand and sighed, shaking her head.

Forget I said anything. Its not important.

M'gann's eyes flashed red and her hand fell from Wanda's shoulder. Wanda gasped, covering her mouth in horror.

"Wanda? Wanda, what's wrong?" M'gann asked, perplexed by her friend's reaction.

Wanda shook her head, running from the room. She ran to her bedroom, slamming the door shut and locking it. She made her way into the bathroom, hiding next to the toilet as she hyperventilated. "What's the matter with me? I...I have never used my powers unintentionally before and never on a friend. H-how could I do that?" She coughed into her hand, pulling it away and gasping when she saw blood in her palm. "No, not again. I...I-"

Wanda felt dizzy, falling forwards as her vision went dark and everything felt numb.

Back in the kitchen lounge area, M'gann was staring down the hallway, confusion coursing through her. She didn't know why Wanda had ran off looking spooked, but then again, she had been acting strange since the Fate mission. M'gann shrugged, going back to her cooking.

Pietro sat with Superboy, staring at the static. "I named that cluster of static Ronald."

Superboy looked flabbergasted. "Why?"

"He seems like a Ronald to me." Pietro shrugged. "And that one over there is Dean-O."

Superboy smirked. "Let me try. Okay, um, that one is...Bob."

Pietro snorted. "Dude, be more creative."

Superboy looked at him with a deadpan expression. "I was raised in a test tube for the first sixteen weeks of my life and I am less than a year old."

"Okay, you make it seem like Wanda and me didn't go through the same process." Pietro shrugged.

Superboy looked at him in shock. "I thought you two were meta humans?"

Pietro nodded. "We are...kind of. You see, we are the children of a scientist at Cadmus, technically speaking. We were conceived in a petri dish and genetically modified to have the meta gene before being placed in the same style containment tanks you were in, force grown until we reached adolescence, when the meta gene activates. We, unlike you, we're taken out of our chambers to have tests and experiments performed on us to see if the alterations on our DNA worked."

"And if they hadn't worked...?"

Pietro stared at him. "I think you know what they'd have done. And it would have been back to they drawing board. But luckily for us, it worked. And all we had to do was endure a years worth of experimentation before Wally, Kaldur, and Robin rescued the three of us." Pietro chuckled. "Oh, well, that is the past, yeah? Anyways, the key is to think up an obscure name, like Squilliam. I got that from a cartoon."

Superboy felt like he had whiplash from Pietro's ability to jump from such a somber topic back to their light hearted naming of static clusters. He didn't want to say anything to set the boy off or ruin the atmosphere though, so he kept quiet as M'gann cooked.

"Dinner is served!" M'gann called after another half hour passed, pulling out the pasta dish. "Let's eat."

The three gathered at the kitchen island, pulling down plates. Superboy looked around. "Where's Wanda?"

Pietro paused. "She's sleeping."

"How do you know that?"

He smirked. "Twintuition." He got confused looks in return. "Think about it for a second."

"Hello, Megan! Twin intuition!"

"There you go." Pietro dug into the meal, eating his entire plate before the others were halfway done. "Can I have more?"

"Of course! That's why I doubled the recipe."

"You're the best." Pietro smiled, scooping more pasta onto his plate.

After they ate, they got an alert that Batman had entered the cave. They walked off to go meet him, finding him standing at the holographic computer. "Get dressed, you have a mission."

The trio nodded, walking to their rooms to get dressed for their mission. As they were exiting their rooms, Wanda came out of her room in a new costume. Pietro stared at her quizzically. "Sister, isn't that costume a bit...showy?"

Wanda waved off his concern with a grin. "Pietro, calm down your brotherly instincts. I can handle myself, obviously."

M'gann fell into step with Wanda. "Are you okay? You didn't come to dinner and you ran off kind of fast..."

Wanda laughed lightly. "M'gann, I feel better than okay, I feel...amazing. Rejuvenated. Ready to take on the world."

"If you say so..." M'gann fell back a little as Wanda kept walking, keeping pace with Pietro. "I'm worried about your sister. She seems...off."

"Wanda has always been moody and emotional. You'll get used to it." Pietro shrugged. "Let's see what Batsy wants."

The four teammates made it back to the mission room, standing before Batman. The zeta tubes announced the arrival of Robin, Artemis, and Kid Flash. They joined the group, everyone eyeing Wanda's new costume.

"I'm digging the new look." Robin gave her a thumbs up.

"Thank you." Wanda smiled.

"We are just waiting on Aqualad. He should be here-" The zeta tubes announced Kaldur's arrival. "Now. Made your decision?"

"The decision is made. I am here, one hundred percent." Kaldur announced.

"Just in time for your next mission." Batman turned back to the computer, pulling up a map. "The Watchtower detected an immense power surge in the Bialyan desert. Spectral analysis revealed elements non-terrestrial in origin. Find out what happened at that sight, what landed there. Bialya is a rogue state, ruled by Queen Bee and not a member of the League's UN charter. All communications are subject to interception. Maintain radio silence at all times. You'll land in Quarac, Bialya's border, two clicks from the hot zone. Dismissed."

The team nodded, heading towards the bioship. They boarded, strapping in for the long flight.

"So, Scarlet Witch, what made you decide to change up the costume?" Robin asked as they flew out of the mountain.

"I felt it was time to spruce things up a bit. My old costume was basically street clothes so I decided to whip this up. Neat, right?" Wanda gestured to her outfit.

"Yeah, very neat." Wally agreed. Pietro elbowed him. "Ow!"

"That's my sister!" He hissed.

The two broke down into a squabble that lasted the entire flight to Bialya, the whole team tuning them out as they got their heads into the mission mindset, completely unaware of the turmoil that was about to befall them.
