A Moment of Stunned Silence, Please
A/N: For the sake of this fanfic, let's pretend that Sophie and Keefe aren't dating and that this happens during the time that Keefe ran away from the Lost Cities. (BUT STILL!!!! SOKEEFE FOREVER!!!!) This chapter also has lots of Aruden fluff, so enjoy that if you like that sort of thing. I know I do! (Oh, and some Sophie angst)
Sophie's POV
"So...that's about it," she said. The Potatoes' only reaction to her crazy life story was silence, which was eventually broken by Aru saying, "I need more Swedish Fish."
Aiden, the dude - who Sophie had deduced to be Aru's boyfriend - forcibly grabbed her arm as she tried to rise from the couch. "No way, Shah. You're practically a Swedish Fish yourself." Aru growled at him. "Sure thing, Wifey," she said deviously, and grabbed a camera from the table next to the couch. Aiden narrowed his eyes.
"Shah, you wouldn't dare..."
"Come and get it, emo boy!" Aiden jumped up and promptly began chasing her around the museum.
Sophie's heart ached. She wished that she and Keefe could be as easy together as that. It was kind of hard since he had disappeared to not think about him.
"Well, it sounds like your life has been...eventful," Mini said, pushing her glasses up farther on the bridge of her nose. The tall one - Brynne - scoffed.
"Understatement of the century," she corrected. "Sophs, let me tell you the tale of the Potatoes..."
Aru's POV
It was decided that Sophie would stay the night at the museum. Aru's mom had called her shortly after she had finished torturing Aiden to tell her that her boss had wanted her to stay an extra few days, so that gave the Potatoes plenty of time to help Sophie find her parents.
Aru and Aiden helped made Sophie comfortable on the couch. She was quite literally one of the sweetest people Aru had ever met, wanting for little and feeling super self-conscious. It almost made up for the murder of those innocent Swedish Fish...
Almost.
Late at night, after the rest of the Potatoes had gone home, Aiden was about to head back to his own house when he suddenly stopped. He turned back towards Aru. "Hey, Aru?" he murmured, careful not to disturb their guest on the couch. "Whatever happens next - whether or not we go on another quest to find this elf girl's parents, or Sheela spouts another prophecy...I just want to let you know that I love you."
Aru felt the familiar pitter-patter of her heart, but this time, it felt different. More meaningful. Her annoying little brain couldn't let go of how sweetly he had held her hair back while her head was half in the toilet, how they had cuddled on the couch, and all of their other moments.
This was the first time he had said those three words to her.
"I love you too, Wifey," she murmured, and leaned in for a kiss. They stayed that way for a long time.
Third POV
Little did the couple know, their visitor on the couch wasn't asleep. Silent tears slipped down her face. She was aching inside, listening to their conversation. Wishing that one day, she could have one of her own.
