The Ferry Man
Nate and Steven walked together slowly down the worn path. Steven rambled on and on to himself as Nate stared at his feet, wondering about everything Steven had said, his head still filled with questions. They soon reached the giant lake of Arenmore, avoiding the small villages built around it. They then came to a small shack on the edge of Arenmore lake with a small docking bay beside it.
As they both walked up to the shack, they saw a handsome man in ragged clothes sitting at a wooden table, counting some golden coins. Steven strolled up to the man with great confidence and slams his hand on the table. "Well hello good sir!" He brought his other hand up to his face and looked at his nails then looked towards the man "I was wondering if you could bring us across that there lake." The man looked up at Steven as he shoved his money back into his leather purse and smirked "Sure, if you have around 300 coins!"
Steven looked back at Nate who was standing slightly away with his hood up and then looked back at the man "Isn't that a bit pricey, m'lad?" The man stood up with his bag of coins "Not if it's the only way you can cross that lake in time to catch your train" he smiled as he towered over Steven. "Come on, you seem like a nice, tall fella.. cheapen that price a little, money does be scarce now a days, especially this far from the main city..Hmm.." Steven persuaded but the man seemed unwavered "Ok, fine, 299 coins" the man chuckled. Steven suddenly lost his smile "Ha, funny.. Now, let's be serious for a moment, you're going to lower the price and stop being an asshole, cheapskate!"
The man loomed over Steven "What did you just fucking call me?!" Nate ran over, his hood falling "He-hey guys no need to fight, I think I have 300 here!" The man turned towards Nate "Hey, I know you.. you're from that circus.. y'know, there's a bounty on your head, apparently stole a lot of money and attacked your ringmaster to escape.. If I hand you in, I'll get way more than 300 coins" he smirked, pushing Steven, but he stood his ground. "Eh, what'd you think you're doing?" He said, trying to push Steven again yet suddenly got a fist to the ribs, flinging him to the ground. "Pretty sure I'm kicking the crap out of you!"
Before he could get up Steven kicked him in the side, then stomped on his stomach. As the man groaned in pain, Steven jumped on top of him, punching him over and over and over again until his face was just a big, bruised and bloody mess. "We're gonna go for free, thanks handsome! Oh and because of that false accusation and harassment, we're also going to take this" Steven snatched up the man's purse and shoved it in his pocket. "Thanks for your service" Steven winked at the half conscious man and all he had to say was "Auuggghhh...."
Steven walked passed the shack with a spring in his step and a wide smile spreading across his face. Nate followed him nervously, scared if that might happen to him if he over steps his boundaries. "Come on, hurry up!" Steven said as he hoped in an old, wooden boat at the bay, making it rock back and forth in the water. Nate hurried over to the boat and carefully stepped in "I could've just paid the guy..." he said hesitantly. Steven turned to him, his smile gone "Why do that when he was an asshole who didn't deserve it? What? Are you 'questioning' my judgement " He paused for a moment as Nate stuttered, then he smiled "Well, I don't think you should complain, I just saved us 300 coins! Let's go!" They both grabbed a paddle and headed for the train station.
