The Attack

They sailed through the calm lake as wind whipped around them. They were far away from shore but there was still arond ten minutes or more before they reached the trainstation. The noise of the wind grew rapidly though it didn't increase in strength. Nate looked around curiously while Steve slowly looked up. "Oh shit..." he whispered under his breath.

Nate whipped his head around to face the trainstation, and saw a ginormous dragon flying above the station with it's massive wings beating furiously to keep it's mass in the air. Even from this distance, they could see people rushing away from the beast, some leaping into the water below for safety. The dragon landed on the tracks, which instantly started to crumble under its weight as it sent a jet of flame from its mouth onto the station.

As the track began to collapse, the beast pulled it into the air and it started flying again, then released it into the lake, sending giant waves hurling towards them. The waves whacked off the rickety boat and threw it upside down, sending Steve and Nate flying into the water.

The cold dark water surrounded them quickly, thrashing them around like ragdolls, pushing them deeper into the lake.

Steve quickly reached the surface pushing against the waves as they slowly calm. He looked around him hectically, witnessing the giant piles of rubble jaggedly protruding from the water with dust slowly flowing through the air.

Nate flailed dramatically as he sunk deeper into the water. He had never had the chance to learn to swim and his metal gauntlet was not helping.

His lungs began to burn furiously as his back landed on the cold, coarse sand that flowed around him as he still struggled in the water.

He fumbled with the straps on his armor as his vision began to go dark, only seeing the deep blue of his icey cold grave, speckled with sand particles.

He felt a sudden grasp on his arm, pulling him to the surface. He grabbed onto the form and began kicking his legs to rise himself to the surface quicker.

His surroundings began to lighten as rays of sunshine penetrated the water. There was still a far way to go and Nates muscles began to burn horribly, almost as much as his lungs. His mind racing yet not having any discerning thoughts and he could no longer kick his legs as strongly or keep his vision clear. His mind suddenly focused on one feeling. Regret. This was it, this was how he died. His body was shutting down slowly, he wasn't even sure if his legs were still kicking. He couldn't feel the the grip on his arm. Was his eyes open? He doesn't know. He doesn't care. He's given up. On the adventure, on this stupid quest he was obsessed with. On his life.

Why did he ever leave his comfortable life at the circus? He had barely left several hours and yet all of this mayhem has happened. Now he was going to die. Never seeing the main city or slaying that horrible beast. Even seeing the circus tent again. He had lived there for as long as he could remember and he abandoned it so suddenly. Why didn't he think this through? Why did he leave everything behind?

He finally realised the darkness around him as his thoughts begin to fade. He can only focus on the pain in his lungs and head. Cold stone hits his back and he feels a sudden strike to his chest though just like his thoughts, it all began to fade to nothingness..
