NOT A CHAPTER---Elicia's Ice ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Guess what guys---it has now been ONE ENTIRE YEAR since I posted the first chapter of "Elicia's Ice"!!! INSANE!!! Another thing---I am SO CLOSE to 100K views on Elicia's ice! Guys!! Thank you so much!! I never expected Ellie to get ANYWHERE, and I'm so happy people actually like what I write. So, for the occasion, I wrote a mini-story! Yay!

Here ya go! Hope you enjoy!

_______________________________

(This is set RIGHT after Ellie's Flame's current story, in which everything has calmed down. And right before D3)

"Sera, did you finish that assignment from Madame de la Grande Bouche?" I ask, closing my locker.

She sticks her tongue out in disgust. "You mean the one where she wanted us to pick a favorite song?"

"Yeah, it kinda takes like two seconds to pick. You didn't do it?" I ask.

"Mmmmmmm...nope." Sera says.

I laugh. "Just pick some random one. Like, um... Ummm..."

"See? It's hard!"

"Let it Go! Smoke and Fire! Bad Blood, ummm Ins and Outs, Rumors..."

"You're literally describing your life, Icy." Sera smirks.

"Oh, shut up." I laugh. "Just pick one. I'm using Let it Go, since I know it by heart. My mom used to sing the slower version to me when I was a baby. She changed the lyrics for me, so I really like it."

"Ehhh... I'll use Let It Go too, then." Sera shrugs. "I can't think of any others that I actually know the words."

"So you know the words now, do you?"

"Oh, shut up."

We continue down the hall until we reach Madame Bouche's class and we walk in. A few months ago, Madame found out that most people here don't randomly burst into song to speak of their feelings. So she demanded we create a vocal class, and Ben---being Ben---agreed. So now, we're required to skip an elective twice a week to go take singing classes for half an hour before returning to our elective. Most of us use the class to goof off, because Madame honestly doesn't mind being the only one who sings. Occasionally she does require assignments, and this is one of them.

Right now, Madame is talking to the class, adjusting and readjusting her puffy white wig and trilling a few notes of disappointment at Sera and I. "Come in, come in girls, we're just speaking of our assignments. You must share your favorite song with the class, now!"

Sera's skin turns white as...well, snow.

Madame Bouche gestures for us to sit down and then turns back to Ben, who I think had been hoping she wouldn't remember he was talking before.

"Come now, each of you must share you song!" She belts out the last word as a high pitched note.

Sera and I sit down. I lean over to Evie. "Who's shared so far?"

"No one. We made Ben volunteer to go first since it was his fault we're in this class." Evie whispers back, tossing her long blue hair behind her shoulders. "I think all of us are stalling so we won't have to share."

"Icy, help me!" Sera begs. "I need a song!"

"You Majestyyyyyy!" Madame sings, sounding slightly annoyed. The room goes dead silent, knowing that if Ben doesn't answer now she'll start singing high until she cracks something. Most likely Doug's glasses.

"Uhhh..." Ben flushes bright red. "'Did I Mention'." He says shortly, and then sits down. Mal, who is next to Evie, instantly rolls her eyes as all of us start squealing and tapping her shoulder.

"Wonderful!" Madame praises. "Monsieur Gil?"

Gil grins wide. "'I'm Still Standing'!"

"Mademoiselle Brit?"

"Um... 'Speechless'."  (Author's edit: I originally had it as "Set It All Free" from Sing! but decided that "Speechless" from Aladdin 2019 captured who Brit was a lot better, since she was dragged down by her dad when she was younger.)

"Ahhhh, beautiful song." Madame Bouche says dreamily.

Madame moves on to Carlos, Jay, Arson, Doug and Lonnie's little group. "Monsieur De Vil!" Madame barks. Carlos shrinks in his seat. She grabs his shoulders dramatically and waves one hand around the room. "Share your song!"

"Ah... see..." He swallows, and I hold back my grin, knowing full well which song he's trying to hide. I don't think any of us expected to have to share them, so we actually did pick our real ones and are now scrambling to find ones that aren't embarrassing.

"I....uhhhhh...." Carlos glances helplessly at me, and I gesture for him to go ahead and share it. No one will get the meaning but me, anyways. "The 'Up' theme." Carlos finally says.

Everyone starts yelling at him.

"THAT'S AN AWFUL MOVIE!"

"WHY, CARLOS WHY?"

"I FREAKING LOVE THAT MOVIE BUT I HATE IT'S GUTS!"

"I'M GOING TO START CRYING NOW!"

"Hush!" Madame bellows in opera mode. Sure enough, Doug's glasses snap and he sighs. Endora takes her wand from behind her ear and waves it, fixing them before sticking it behind her ear again.

"What is this 'Up' theme?" Madame demands.

"IT'S AN AMAZING MOVIE THAT TEARS THE SOULS OUT OF INNOCENT CHILDREN!" everyone in the room yells except for Carlos and I. We're dying laughing.

"Madame Bouche, here." I choke out, pulling out my phone and pressing play on my movie soundtrack playlist, where I know I'll find the 'Up' theme. Everyone starts groaning and covering their ears, but after about thirty seconds Madame Bouche shakes her head.

"No words!" She cries. I stop the music. "There must be words for this assignment! Pick a song with words, Monsieur De Vil!"

"But I don't like songs with words." Carlos protests.

Madame gives the closest thing I've seen to a glare from her. "Than pick one." She says, her voice no longer musical. Then it becomes chipper again. "Monsieur Arrrson, what is yours?"

Arson, who had been laughing, instantly stops. "Uh... huh?"

"Song, Monsieur, a song!"

"Ah..." I can see him fumbling for a song. He glances at Sera, but she just shakes her head.

"What's his favorite?" I whisper to her.

"The song that Pippin sings to Lord Denethor in the third movie." She whispers back. "I let him watch the third movie and he loved that song the most. I'm not sure what it's called, though."

"The Edge of Night." I whisper back. "At least, I'm fairly certain that's what it's called."

"I...uhhh...." Arson sputters nervously.

I stand up. "His favorite is the song "The Edge Of Night" from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, sung by Billy Boyd who plays Pippin the Hobbit."

I sit back down and Arson beams at me.

"WORDS?" Madame asks Arson.

He nods feverently.

She must be satisfied, because she moves on to Doug and Jay. And on and on and on down the line, until only Evie, Mal, Sera and I are left. I have learned some interesting things about my fellow classmates. For instance, Dizzy's favorite song is "Fearless" by Taylor Swift. When questioned by Madame Bouche, Dizzy said she likes it because Evie and her used to do karaoke, and this was one of the few songs that could pass through the barrier's radio waves. Another interesting fact is that Lonnie's favorite was "Reflection." So at least one other person's favorite song is something their parents sang to them when they were kids.

While Madame is interrogating Carlos, who keeps telling her he's not going to change his song, Sera leans over to me. "Is there a reason De Vil is being more stubborn than I thought possible?"

"Yes, but it's none of your business." I whisper back.

"Ooooh, so it has to do with you!" Sera teases, poking my ribs.

Madame de la Grande Bouche suddenly interrupts, looking Evie in the eye. "Mademoiselle?" She asked, sounding excited. Everyone knows Evie has good taste in style, and I think Madame was hoping she would finally have a nice good opera song.

But, Evie disappointed. She said, without any shame, that her favorite song was "Shine" sung by Cassidy Ladden. I think I'm the only one that remembers watching the movie where that plays in the credits the other day with her. But, Evie does deserve to shine.

Madame moves on to me, and I tell her it's "Let it Go". She squeals with delight, swooping down and kissing my cheeks and telling me what an enchanting song it is. Then she moves right on to Sera, who has been growing paler and paler for the past five minutes.

She finally sighs. "Fiiiiiiine. Mine's "Alw---"

"Hers is "Let it Go"!" Evie shouts suddenly. They both turn and glare at her with everything in them, but Madame has already swooped upon them, bawling her eyes out.

"That's for teasing Carlie!" Evie hisses. Sera's eyes flash their unique red, but by then Madame has moved away and is addressing Mal.

Mal glares at her. And glares. But Madame just glares right back.

Finally Mal sighs. "Fine! Mine is a tie "Space Between" and "Love Story". Okay?"

Evie looks ready to explode in happiness. Ben looks a little miffed, but happy all the same.

I elbow Mal. "I wouldn't have pegged you as a T. Swift fan."

"I'm not." She whispers back. "I just like that song in particular."

"Now that we have everyone's soo-OOOOO-ngs!" Madame bellows. "We must continue with assignment! There will be no changing songs now, for ANY of you! You must each take favorite song and rewrite the existing lyrics to match your life! And as you have picked a song with no words, YOU, Monsieur De Vil, will use a song of my choosing."

Carlos groans and slides down in his seat.

"You will pick a classmate, and they will assign you a song." Madame says. "I would pick it for you, but I do enjoy this song, even if it is silent, so I am being lenient. Pick a classmate!"

Everyone tries to look innocent so Carlos will pick them and then we can give him a really fun song to work with. (Read: fun for us---torture for him).

Carlos' gaze settles on Arson, probably having deduced that Arson won't be as evil as the rest of us. "Arson."

Arson's grin splits his face wide open. "Oooh! Oooooooooh!" He cries, hugging Carlos in a bone-crushing embrace.

Sera snorts. "You just made his day, De Vil. He never gets picked for anything."

"Great." Carlos squeaks. Arson sets him down and then puts on what he calls his 'thinking face', where his nose scrunches up and his eyes close like 90% of the way, and he taps his forehead until his thought finishes.

Everyone waits patiently. Madame's face tightens with every moment, and it appears she regrets this decision immensely.

Then Arson's face lights up. "Whole World New!" he crows.

Carlos looks around the room for someone to confirm it's a real song. I stand up. "'Whole New World'. It's the song that Aladdin trademarked when he wrote it for Jasmine. I'm pretty sure you'd have to ask permission to use it."

Madame shakes her head. "Nonsense! Music is for everyone! Now, you have your assignments---go! Share your story in a weeeeeEEEk! When we next meet!"

"A week?" Someone yells. Madame nods and dismisses us without another word. Everyone is grumbling except for Ben, who is probably just going to go straight to his mom, who loves replacing words.

"Why did you do that, Evie?" Sera groans. "Now I have to think up how to change Elsa's life story into mine!"

Evie looks slightly ashamed. "It was just a joke, Sera. I'm really sorry. I didn't know Madame would do that assignment!"

"It's fine." Sera waves her hand. "You just have to help me."

Evie's brown eyes light up. "Oh! Good! I need help on mine, too."

"What are you talking about?" I laugh. "All you need to do is change a few words to fashion-y stuff here and there, and it's you!"

Evie smiles. "I guess so. I do love this song though, I hope if we have to perform it I can do it well."

"Wait. No one said anything about performing these!" Sera yells.

"Oh, don't worry, I'm just planning ahead." Evie assures her. "Besides, I doubt Madame Bouche would want you to ever try and sing again."

We all laugh as we remember Sera's disastrous attempt at singing "Be Our Guest" at the parent's day party (in which I actually had both parents come and enjoy themselves for once) and she accidentally started singing off-key and dancing so badly she knocked everybody over.

Sera looks pleased with herself. "I did do an awful job, di'n I?"

"Best horrible singer in Auradon, Sera." I tell her, patting her shoulder. We all laugh again and then stop at our designated picnic table (actually four different ones smushed together to create room for our big friend group) and find everyone from class already waiting for us. All of them are talking about the assignment.

"I can't believe your favorite song is "Enchanted", Dori." Ben tells Endora, who is twirling her wand and creating music notes and lyrics in the air. There I was again tonight, mak'n Audrey ugly again, same old blown-up haggy face...

"What can I say?" Endora shrugs. "It was written for me!"

"Hey, at least hers makes sense." Doug argues. "Why in the world is your favorite song 'Colors of the Wind', Mahina?"

Mahina shrugs and plays with her knotted-windblown hair. A gust suddenly wafts through and knocks Doug's glasses off.

He retrieves them. "Nevermind."

We all join them at the tables. "Hi, guys."

"Hi." Everyone choruses. "This assignment is killing all of us." Dizzy tells me.

"I know." Mal complains. "And I'm stuck with Love Story or Space between!"

"You realize Space Between already describes you, right?" Evie asks. "And Madame has never heard it."

Mal's face brightens. "I'm using that one."

I nudge Sera. "By the way, what's actually your favorite song? You were going to say it."

"Icy, you should know my favorite song." Sera says, sounding annoyed. "You've watched the movie with me like, five times."

A light bulb goes off in my brain. "Ohhhhh, your favorite song is Alway---"

"Hey Sera, how exactly are you going to rewrite Let it Go?" Jay asks.

Sera grumbles for a minute. "I dunno, hones'ly. I suck at anythin' write-y."

"And anything vocabulary-y, apparently." Doug mutters.

"I will hurt you." Sera promises, but Doug just shrugs. We all know by now that the worst Sera can do is make our beds explode. And she honestly does it quite often, so we just all have Dori on standby.

"By the way Kalia, why didn't you show up for Vocal today?" Carlos asks. Kalia gives a dreamy smile.

"I was trying to decide my favorite song, so I went down to the beach, and the ocean warned me not to come to class. So I didn't. And really, did Madame even notice I was missing?"

"No." Everyone chorused.

"Maybe I'll skip next week." Sera decides.

"Nah, she'd notice the off-key voice was missing." Mal points out.

"And probably be very happy about it." I laugh.

"Hey, at least it'll be easy for you to write the lyrics." Mahina tells me. "That song already pretty much is yours, just needs a few flame-ish lyrics here and there."

"Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know." I recite out loud. "Yeah, you're right, that's pretty much what was happening with my fire powers. I hold my hand up, sparking flames in my palm and watching them dance along my sleeve. Ever since ____ _________ (Authors note: NO SPOILING!) me, I had learned not to be afraid of my dad's powers, and thus I now... well, not control exactly. I understand them, more like.

"Yeah, I'll be done with this in a couple days." I agree. "And I can help with yours, Sera. If you want."

"Aw heck yes." Sera wraps one arm around my shoulder. "I'm gettin' second-generation Icy helpin' me rewrite first generation Icy's song!"

"I don't understand how anything in your brain works." Maira says, plopping down next to me.

"Hey, where were you in class?" Endora asks. "Wait. Nevermind. Archery practice?"

"Fencing, actually. And not the wimpy sports kind you guys do. The kind with actual broadswords, Claymores, rapiers, katanas, Khopeshes and training knives, you name it. Sharp edges. Like this." She reaches for her hidden scabbard and it flickers into view as she pulls out an elegant silver blade easily twice as long as her arm with double edges and green leather wrapped around the handle.

"Nice." Sera says, whistling. "Where can I sign up?"

"Right over there." Maira says, pointing towards the field, where a few people are fighting.

Sera grins. "Whooo! Bye, y'all!" She stands up to sprint over but I grab the back of her shirt collar.

"Sera." I scold. "You have to at least start your song now, or you'll never start it."

"But---but---blood and gore!" Sera whines. "Shiny swords! Dead people!!"

"Blood and shiny swords, yes." Maira says, putting her sword away. "Gore and dead people? Not so much. No maiming allowed."

"Where's the fun in that?" Sera asks, disgusted. She sits back down and puts her head in her hands sadly.

I shrug and we all chatter for a while, each of us coming up with a few lines here and there for our songs, but none of us getting very far along. Endora is the only one who finishes, and most of it's about making Audrey ugly or Endora being awesome. In other words, it's describing Endora perfectly. Mahina and Kalia buzz together for a while, both of them working on Mahina's, and then they get up and leave to go find a nice windy cliff.

Right. What better place to rewrite "colors of the wind"?

~One Week Later---DUE DATE!~

Madame told us that two people would have to present their songs, and she would pick them from a jar containing our names. I'm pretty sure it was Hunger Games Live in here the second she reached in.

And so of course she picked me.

"The snow glows white on the school campus tonight, not a student here but me,

A kingdom of education, and it looks like I'm Ice Queen

The wind is howling like this swirling fire inside,

Couldn't keep it in, parents knows I tried.

(But the school thinks I didn't...)

Don't let them in, don't let them see, be the good girl you always have to be

Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know...

But they've always known.

Let it go, let it go, can't hold it back anymore.

Let it go, let it go, freeze the sky and burn the floor!

I don't care, what they're going to say,

Let the flames burn on,

Hot things never bothered me anyway.

It's funny how some distance, makes insults seem so small

And the kids that once controlled me, won't get to me at all!

It's time to see what I can do, to test the limits and blaze through!

No right, no wrong, no rules for me! I'm free!

(Except for burning down my parent's house)

Let it go, let it go, I am one with the fire and ice!

Let it go, let it go, you'll never see me hide!

Here I stand, and here I'll stay.

Let the flames rage on...

My power blazes through the ground into the sky,

My soul is finally free and learning how to fly.

And one thought crystalizes, burning sand to glass,

I'm never going back! The past is in my past!

Let it go, let it go, and I'll rise like the break of dawn.

Let it go, let it go, that silent girl is gone.

Here I stand, in the light of day!

Let the flames burn on-----Hot things never bothered me anyway."

On the line 'Rise like break of dawn', I'd used my powers for extra effect, weaving my dad's powers with my mom's to make a dress that even I'm a little in awe of. Stopping at my knees in a loose skirt, the whole thing is made of glass-like scales of ice that fade from light blue to dark blue and then black at the ends. The whole thing has a layer of smoke-like veil around it that seems to float in the air. The top has wraparound sleeves, made of the same material as the veil but beaded with ice of pure white. And, I'd covered my combat boots with (meltable) designs.

After I finish the last word, I close my mouth, waiting to hear Madame's reaction. And I crack open my eyes, slowly looking around the room at my friend's dumbfounded expressions. Sera's jaw looks ready to hit the floor.

Madame's wig is tilted sideways to the right, and her cheeks are a brilliant pink, but she either doesn't notice or doesn't care.

"Mademoiselle, that was..." Tears well in her eyes. "Magnifique!" She rushes forward and gives me a wide embrace, bawling her eyes out on my brand-new ice-scale dress that changes from blue to black when I move. Snickers ripple through the room, until Madame finally lets me go and tells me I can sit down now. Eyes follow me back to my seat, and Sera elbows me. Hard.

"Icy, where'd you learn to sing like that?" She demands.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"I mean, that was drop-dead amazin'---and I don't even like hearin' people sing!" Sera whisper-shouts, poking my shoulder. "Icy, your voice is awesome!"

Madame reaches into her cup of straws with our names Sharpie'd on. Flourishing her hands in an attempt to regain control of herself, she opens the card. "Sera!"

Sera groans loud and long, not bothering to smother it as she slides down in her seat.

I lean to Mal. "Think it's a coincidence that Madame picked people that did Let it Go?"

"No." Mal whispers back. "It's her favorite song, remember?"

"Seraaaa!" Madame sings. "Come up front, my dear!"

"Kill me now." Sera begs, grabbing my hand and tugging off my leather fingerless glove from Jay. "Freeze me, burn me---I don't care."

I tug my hand back and slip the glove back on, smiling at her. "If I had to do it, you have to do it."

Sera wails, falling into my lap dramatically before sliding out of her chair and shuffling to the front of the room. She sends death glares to everyone who laughs, but when Arson waves ecstatically at her, she waves back. She clicks the heels of her combat boots together and stands there for a minute, flicking her braids behind her shoulders.

And then she starts to sing.

And... it's not awful. It's actually good. Well, it's sweet, anyway.

"My eyes glow red on the Isle tonight, not an idiot to be seen.

And Island of isolation, it don't look like I'm a Queen.

The trash is everywhere, Auradon is shining gold,

Can't keep it in, never tried at all.

Don't let them in, don't let Ar see, be the bad kid you've always got to be

Conceal, but feel, don't let Ar know

But now Ar knows

SO! Let it go, let it go, make things explode for him

Let it go, let it go, turn around and break the barrier

I don't care, what Dad's going to say

I'll turn good for Ar

Dad never bothered me anyway.

It's awesome how some distance

Makes Dad seem like an ant

And Arson's fear that once controlled me

Can't get to him at all

It's time to see what we can do,

To test our social skills and make friends

Right is now wrong, wrong is now right,

It's dumb!

Let it go, let it go, Arson is now free!

Let it go, let it go, you'll never see him cry!

Or me, because I don't cry

Ever before or now

My power bursts in random spots and makes things die

Arson is having fun for the first time in his life

And this song was really hard to write so please respect

I'm awful at writing, I'm almost done so yay!

Let it go, let it go, and Dad's stomping his foot, he's mad

Let it go, let it go, we're taunting him from our awesome new home

Here we stand, and here we'll stay

We'll stay good for our friends

Icy's cold never bothered me anyway.

She stops and grins, making a mock bow and strutting back to her seat. Applause scatters everywhere, and Arson actually shoves his way over to hug her tight. She seems pleased, and doesn't shove him away. If it were me, and I'd sung that about a sibling (not that I have any) they probably would've gotten mad at me for singling them out and making them look weak. But not Arson. He loves attention, especially from Sera. She always played it tough on the Isle, trying to ignore him when she was with her friends. So Auradon, where she obsesses over how happy he is, it's pretty much Heaven on earth for him.

Madame beams at Sera. "Wonderful, my dear! Magnificent!"

Sera grins and side-hugs Arson and I. Her strong arms kind of crush my shoulders, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

"Great, Madame big mouth!" Sera yells. "Now can I quit Vocal?"

Madame's face falls, and the room finally bursts out laughing.
