9: Pinkalicious Room Sears My Eyeballs (And A Friendly Shrimp Didn't Help)

(I wanted to try this, since Sera is a key character in Ellie and she'd been kind of feeling not like that in D3 Ellie. I mean, for Pete's sake, Sera literally sacrificed a year of her life for her brother, and she's had like four lines of dialogue in Ellie D3 so far!)

(Plus, she's got family here and I wanted to be able to show her reaction to everything going on if Arson was threatened.)

(Also, I realized I never described what Sera looked like outfit-wise so far, and it'd be kind of weird t include it now so I'll just describe it here. She's wearing a bloodred top with those metal spike things on the shoulders on top of black epaulet-kind of things. Like Evie has on her shoulders, except wider and with frayed sides. No sleeves, just on her shoulders. Black leather gloves on both hands, fingerless. Black pants with red stripes down the sides, pants only reach a little above her knees. Brown combat boots, red laces. Lots of jingly bronze stuff hanging off of her entire outfit. Black parts of her hair pulled into a ponytail, but every red braid hanging down)

SERA'S POV

After we get to Audrey's dorm, (which is WAY too pink, by the way---I need to cleanse my eyes after this) we split up to look for clues. Celia makes a beeline for Audrey's dresser-mirror-whatever that thing is called and starts bedazzling herself with things too sparkly for my taste. I end up by the (PINK!!!! WHO HAS A PINK ONE???) fireplace, examining golden pokers and whatever fire tools are called, with Evie. One is missing. Big whoop. Mal is going through Audrey's dresser drawers while Uma watches.

I pick up a large golden-gilded picture frame with teeny weeny Audrey and Ben side-by-side, with cute baby grins on their faces.

"Wow. How long were these two dating?" I ask, rubbing my finger on the picture where baby Ben is holding a teeny weeny crown for teeny weeny Audrey's head.

"I'm not sure." Evie says, looking at the picture. I look over to Mal, but she stubbornly keeps her gaze on Audrey's bobby pins.

"This is useless. Maybe some of us should search the actual school." Uma suggests.

"E and I will go." Mal instantly says, jumping up and abandoning the pins that were her only lifeline a minute ago.

I shrug. "See ya, then." I notice a picture lying face-down on a plushy (AGAIN PINK) mini-couch, and I pick it up. It's a photograph of teenage Audrey, before her hair turned into candy, with Ben behind her. Both of them are smiling, but even I can tell it's a little... lacking on Ben's side.

"Sera." Mal says. Guiltily, I drop the picture back on the couch. But Mal doesn't seem to care about the picture. She just gives me a look that oh-so-clearly says watch Uma. I nod, and then she opens the door. As soon as Mal and Evie are out of the room, Uma flops down on Audrey's bed.

"Think she's under the covers?" I ask, tapping my foot on the way-too-glossy floor. I know from my days aboard her smelly ship that she despises noises like this. Whistling is what really ticks her off, but I can't whistle.

Shrimpy Uma shrugs. "Maybe. Never know unless I try, right?"

Cue my scoffing. But after a few seconds...

"Scoot." I say, flicking my fingers. "That bed looks comfy."

"Oh, it is." Uma gloats, rubbing the blanket. I totally thought she'd just make fun and leave me standing, but she moves over and crosses her arms, as if daring me to get close to her.

I grin and jump on, landing on my back on the bed. "Woof. Yer right, this bed is pure awesome. But, this pillow feels like a brick."

"Just like home." Uma mutters, crossing her legs comfortably.

"No, this is Auradon." I say, reaching underneath the pillow. "Pillows are awesome here." My hand connects with something hard and foreign, and I pull it out.

"Ooooh, a book!" Uma says sarcastically. Hey, At least I was right about it being foreign to me. Books. Blegh.

Unless it's Percy Jackson. Or Keeper of the Lost Cities. Then I make exceptions.

Mmm... and maybe Fablehaven. Anything by those three authors.

"Wait, ShrimmmmmmUuuuuma, look at the cover!" I say, smacking it with my hand. Uma looks over with interest.

"Diary, huh?" she looks up at me, and we stare at each other for a few seconds before I pull open the book.

"Juicy details, here I come!" I say happily. Uma reads over my shoulder, occasionally pointing out funny details like how much Audrey hates Mal.

I mean, dang, I knew the basics of what happened when Mal spelled King Benny, but this girl really hates Queen Mally. Like, seriously hates her. Also, she talked about her spa trip with the three fairies. A lot.

Not more than how she hates Mal, though.

"Oooh, she mentioned Icy!" I crow. "Juicy juicy!"

Uma grabs the book away. "Do you ever take something seriously?"

"We're layin' on her bed, readin' her diary." I remind her. "What part of this is serious?"

Uma shrugs. "Fine. Point taken. Besides, this entry isn't interesting. All she said was that Chad tried to take Ellie's powers. Didn't work, yadda yadda... Chad is an idiot, yadda yadda... Who is Chad?"

"A prince from here that acts like a baby." I supply.

Uma rolls her eyes. "Of course." She looks back down at the diary, and her eyes pop out. "Woah, wait, this one says she should've hired someone else to do the job. This girl is evil!"

I snatch the book back. "Audrey tried to take Icy's powers? I remember this story! Icy told me about it! I didn' know Audrey was behind it!"

"Apparently no one else did, too." Uma says, pointing. "See? 'I didn't get caught, which I'm so thankful for'."

Celia turns to us. "What do you think?"

I barely glance up. "Too shiny."

"More necklaces." Celia decides, turning back to the mirror.

"Oh, hey, wait---" I tap the book when Uma turns a page. "Nice drawing!" It's a very detailed picture of Audrey in her new outfit and hair and everything, but she's wearing the crowd she was wearing when she turned Mal into Hag Mal.

"Isn't that the Queen's Crown?" Uma asks.

"Ummmmmmmm... Yes." I say, scoffing. "Duh. That's totally the Queen's Crown."

"You didn't know that was the crown, did you?" Uma asks in a deadpan. I hate deadpan.

"Gimme a break! My dad was interested in fighting skills, not shiny skills!" I huff, shoving the diary back towards her. She snickers.

The door to Audrey's dorm opens, Mal and Evie coming in. "She's nowhere on campus." Evie informs us.

"No." I gasp in surprise. "Welp, at least we ain't bein' attacked by freakazoid armors now. Yippee!"

"And what have you both been doing while we were gone?" Mal asks testily.

"Found her diary." Uma says, snatching it out of my hands and holding it up lazily. "And dang, did you ruin Audrey's life."

"She hates you." I supply helpfully.

"Okay, and did you find anything in there that we don't already know?" Mal demands. "Or..."

"She hangs out at Fairy Cottage." Uma says. "You know, where Flora, Fauna, and Merriwhether hid her mom from your mom."

"Yes, ha-ha-ha. The irony is not lost on me." Mal grumbles.

Uma sighs through her nose. "How could anyone with this bed ever be unhappy?" She asks, flopping back again.

"It's like a cloud." I agree. "Why isn't my dorm bed like this? My dorm bed's like a cloud that rained out all the fluffy."

"Okay, now how do I look?" Celia asks, turning toward all of us and posing.

I grunt. "Still too shiny."

Evie smiles at my remark, but shakes her head at Celia. "Okay, the bling stays here."

"But she's bad." Celia complains.

"And we're not." Evie reminds her.

"Maybe a teensy bit." I add, and Uma snickers. For a second, I forget that we're supposed to be hating each other's guts, and I grin back at her. It kinda reminds me of being on the ship with her, before the four VK's left and Uma became an eight-armed tyrant. I liked her then. She was... mmm, not an eight-armed tyrant. Enough said.

Then the moment breaks, and we both look away from each other.

Maybe Icy's right. Maybe it would be better if we could be BFF's.

I hope she's having more luck than us. 'Cause our luck sucks right now.

Unless you count juicy secrets from her diary. Which I totally do.

That's it---I officially LOVE writing from Sera's POV.

Hope you guys liked reading it! Updates won't be for a little while now, since I have to start actually going to rehearsals for the play I'm in now. That's gonna eat up time.

Byeeee!
