#27 - for examination
Lori oversees Ida and Adan inspecting Ella's blood sample.
Studying Ella's eye with an ophthalmoscope Miles sees it too, "you really do have some sort of night-vision. What do you see at night?"
"It's actually very little use at night for me, things are still dark." Ella blinks a few times focusing, "I see better than most in the dark. But it allows me to see heat radiating. Most living things have a reddish to yellow aura around them it can become white if they are heated up from physical activity or in a fit of rage."
Lori and Ida listen as Miles ponders the idea, "I don't think I've ever seen or heard anything like what you have here. Is that organism responsible for your vision? Would you lose the ability even your complete sight if this organism can be removed?"
"Pretty sure it is," hesitant in wanting to reveal all this, Ella's relieved at the way Miles is handling it, "I wondered that too, how much would I lose. As you've noticed finding animals that aren't diseased is becoming harder. Without clean blood to satisfy the organism inside it'll surely consume me. I think if I want to be able to live to the next century, and become a goblin, I'll have to become a vegan first."
She's a vampire? Both Lori and Miles look to each other. Slowly Adan thinks similarly.
Certain Ella is a werewolf Ida's thrilled to be right but worries of problems that could follow. Is Ella dangerous? Is Vladimir a vampire? Would he come for vengeance if something happened to Ella? How would others take this kind of information? Would Ella be in Danger?
With so much concern in the room Ella begins to worry, "what I have isn't dangerous to any of you here. The organism set up shop in me and has yet gone anywhere else. And I don't generally go around eating people or sucking their blood. So if any of you have questions please ask me now. I'm willing to answer to anything."
As they mull over their thoughts carefully Adan has to ask, "so are you a Vampire?"
Ella laughs with a sigh, "no Adan I am not a Vampire. The organism in me is like a Vampire or some other parasite that lives off blood like mosquitoes, fleas, leeches or ticks."
Adan points back to the microscope, "well I didn't see blood cells there just orange splotches. What are you?"
Keeping a smile on Ella stretches out her hand to him to shake and feel, "hello Adan, I'm Ella a female person with a problem on her insides. What are you?"
He shakes her hand, mainly to feel her warmth, "I'm an Adan, a boy person. I don't know what's on my insides."
"Well let's keep it that way," Ella can sense relief off the boy and Lori, "our insides don't look so good."
A thousand questions are filling Ida's mind.
Curious by Adan's statement Miles has another look at her test slide, "do you know anything about your condition? Where it came from? Possible treatments? I'm guessing you must have tried something."
The query causes Lori to recall the blood samples under test. "This is a rare thing isn't it?" Slowly she meanders to the lab listening for an answer and studying Ella's behavior.
"Yes and it won't register well with your machines." Ella watches Lori leave, "all I really know about it, it lives along my circulatory systems. Some pain blockers help curb the cravings but nothing that's actually helpful."
On the test slide Miles can't find any red blood cells. The foreign cells have multiplied in number but appear to be dying off, "this is really odd. I can understand why you crave blood if the organism is consuming it."
Adan has to ask, "how do you get blood?"
Ella grosses them out, "I catch live animals and don't worry about cooking them."
"Ewww," Adan grimaces right away, "I couldn't do that. Are they still moving?"
"Not for long," Ella partially jest with them but can tell they're all horrified.
"Alright Adan that's enough, of your questions," Miles shakes the disgusting idea from his mind. "True or not I think I might have nightmares, picturing Ella gnawing on bunnies."
The casual manor that Ella responds to questions Ida's certain she has not lied yet, and wants to test her wolf theory, "the first day we met, what would have happened if that man didn't fire the gun?"
The question itself is more curious to Miles. In recalling the events retold to him that day, he has trouble, fitting Ella into the timeline.
Coming from the other room Lori has to show Miles the results, "Miles I think you should take a look at these first and tell me what you think?"
Ida's question has Ella on the spot, thinking of a response takes time, "I'm not sure Ida. You did a brave thing there, that I can admire you for. But animals wild or someone's pet can be potentially dangerous. I'm glad no one was hurt and you got a great memory out of it."
Liking her answer Miles gets up to check on the blood analyses, "you see Ida, us adults feel the same, we don't want to see you get hurt."
"Mhmm," as Miles walks away Ida rolls her eyes back to Ella, "you are..."
Swiftly Ella puts a finger to her lips and whispers, "please let them figure it out and say something. You have it right," Ella winks at her.
Watching them, it slowly comes to Adan. At first so scared to open a gate for the wolf he so easily opened the door for the woman. Unsure of Ella, Adan eases up beside Ida.
Lori found Ella's blood sample came up inconclusive. Checking Ida's noticed something she needed confirmation on.
Not surprised by Ella's results Miles has to open up files on a computer to see what was detected within Ida's sample. Finding it marked a trace of Parkinson's has them concerned enough to discuss it talking lowly.
Smiling for being right Ida's still not sure if it's good, "I knew it." Hearing Miles and Lori, Ida knows they've found something interesting, "let me just see what they found out."
"Okay sweetie," Ella smiles at the two but can feel apprehension from Adan.
Ida pokes her head in the other room, "what is it? Did you find something out?"
As they look up Lori wants to cry for the girl waving her in closer.
Adan not wanting to be alone with Ella right now follows Ida in.
Overhearing them tell Ida about Parkinsons disease Ella sighs swiveling around in the chair to a desk behind. On the desk a computer with patient files stored in it. Biding her time Ella checks programs on the computer finding the solitaire game.
Playing a couple quick rounds Ella slows up staring blankly at the screen before her. In the other room Miles can still be heard explaining Parkinsons and what can be done and what may happen.
Unconsciously Ella brings up a blank note pad page and begins typing.
A very troubled Ida is lost in thoughts, grappling with the realization she too has something in her that just can't come out or be cured. Not knowing when it'll become real and how bad will it be are weighing heavy on her young mind.
Lori and Miles do their best in consoling, counseling and explaining to Ida. Adan doesn't quite comprehend the situation, especially when he thought they were here for Ella.
Only knowing so much herself Lori comes out to talk with Ella but finds her sleeping in the chair, "Ella? Sorry to wake you. We must've got talking too long in there."
Opening the eyes Ella realizes she'd nodded off, "it's okay I was just playing a few hands of solitaire while you guys talked. Must be so worn out I drifted off there for second," she notices the screen saver displayed on the monitor, "or three?"
"How did you know about Ida?" Lori pulls over a stool to sit beside Ella, "Did you know exactly what was there?"
"Oh I am so sorry for Ida. I hope she gets many good years before it becomes a problem." Being inside a building Ella scans the room for a clock. "Was it Parkinsons?"
"Yes it was. How did you know?" Ella fascinates Lori, "I didn't even know about the disease until now."
"I can smell it. Diseases within the body." Seeing a clock that reads one thirty relieves Ella. "I'm sure it comes from the organism inside me but over the years I've heard about people that could smell sickness on others."
Understanding Lori nods, "I've heard animals can. I'm amazed though you picked out Ida right away. Miles, Adan and myself seem perfectly fine, by the blood testing. Do you think it got better with your nursing?"
"It did help. I could smell it before, but as a nurse I was able to find out what I was smelling." Ella loves how calm Lori is being and no one has called security to restrain and confine her for further assessment. "How are you feeling about this Lori? It's a lot to take in."
Lori tries to keep upbeat, "I always knew there was something wrong with Ida. Thought mentally. Now we know. Guess all we can do really is make sure she eats well and carries on normally. You and your organism? I'm just a person who wants to help people, I'm no problem solving scientist. What's in you seems possibly a scary blessing. A full transfusion would take a lot of blood and Adan's your match. I don't think we can get out of him what we need to do in one day. There's plasma in the subbasement but that we think is expired and we're only keeping it as a last resort."
Not enough usable blood was a thought Ella already had. "I appreciate you two humoring me enough to investigate and consider the idea. I guess what I need to hear is that if it was possible to do a transfusion, would you two consider doing it?"
Unable to see it happen Lori shrugs and nods, "I'm sure we would be willing. I think I would want it out of me too. Able to smell what's possibly inside someone could be very useful to a doctor or nurse."
Hearing a repeated offer and being accepted warms Ella's soul, "thank you Lori. Especially for taking the time you have."
"You're welcome Ella." Lori points behind, "I do wish I could help you more. I'm sure Miles and I will be having a few discussions on you and what plagues you. I think right now I might be better help in there."
"Oh yeah sure." Ella stands, "Thank you Lori and I think you and Miles are doing wonderfully with those two."
"Thank you," Lori appreciated hearing that. "Check in with us when you can. If you want to come by and just talk, Miles and I are willing to listen and help where we can."
"Thank you Lori," Ella approaches the trio, "I'll get myself moving but thank you all for listening and trying to help. Ida sweetie you will be okay. Its just sad when we know things about ourselves that aren't pleasant. Good night. Thank you Miles for listening."
"Yes, sure and thank you Ella," Miles winks at her, "It's been an unusual Saturday night."
With a smile Ella waves to Adan while speaking to the doctors. "at least we didn't have any deep cuts, burns or broken limbs that needed attending."
That puts a smile on Miles and Lori's face, "good night Ella"
Adan's not sure about waving to her but somberly Ida does, "bye Ella."
