#23 - talking turkey

Back at Miles place he wasn't surprised Ella had left, merely hopeful things work out for her. Adan almost forgot she was there until Ida mentioned it. In her youthful thoughts debated if sunlight negatively effects Ella. Ida figures a research trip to the library on Werewolves will be how the day is spent.

Being hungry Ella won't even remember changing going right into hunt mode when it's over. She ends up spending most of the morning taking down and devouring small critters.

Vladimir's unable to sleep with thoughts weighing heavy on the mind. After their change Filomena's in a better mood and would like more time with the man. Distracted the man knows his heart won't be in it, yet.

Able to tell and understand Filomena allows him to slip away with her car. Her 'acquired' automobile impresses Vlad enough to pull her in for a quick hug and kiss to the lips before leaving. Leaving Fil with a smile Vladimir joyfully hops into a blood-red sixties, Ferrari Stradale, convertible coupe.

As Vlad contently rumbles down the driveway, Filomena watches with anxiety building within. Praying he doesn't have a wolf to deal with.

When rolling up close to the farmhouse, Vladimir quickly stops and turns off the engine, listening to the surroundings. Passing breezes rustle trees and leaves obscuring the quieter noises of the barn animals, "Ella?" Studying the house he softly calls out once more, "Ella?"

Cautiously exiting the car he eyes the house. Well if she was waiting for me, she'd be out here charging at me. Leaving the keys in the ignition and the door ajar Vlad backs up towards the barn. Give a quick check on the animals and then check the house.

Seeing what looks like the same number of animals Vladimir quickly tosses in some feed for both pigs and turkeys. Recalling the cooked bird he checks on it after.

Their farm property near cleared of critters the wrapped bird is still intact; flies are beginning to appear.

After a safety taste of the meat, Vlad feels safe enough to try another bite of the still warm meat. The taste says try a few more bites.

With great care Vlad enters the main house to wash up.

Seeing the house empty Vlad is able to break down the turkey carefully; anything questionable goes to the pigs, he splits the rest into three groups. After filling a large freezer bag and stowing it so, the remainder is split in two. Storing most of the meat in two large rigid plastic containers.

After stowing the meat in the refrigerator and much in the belly, Vlad takes the scraps to the pigs to finish tending to the animals.

Picking the stalls Vlad's reminded not only would a real change of straw be welcome, the food for them is running low.

When in the turkey pen he observes the egg is yet to hatch. Hoping its still alive inside Vlad leans on the pick's handle studying the egg. A lot of work to be done to actually keep these guys alive, just to eat.

Going back to it Vlad tops up the water troughs. With the winds picking up he decides to close up the barn.

Inside the house he drinks down half a cup of water eyeing the computer.

Sitting down in front of the computer he flips up and on the screen, staring blankly waiting for the messages to appear.

When the desired message window reproduces he stares right past it, unready to type. Hands arched over the keyboard he waits for a signal from the brain to begin. Knowing what has to be put down will be the hardest thing ever left for Ella to read Vlad drops a shaking head onto the table. Rocking the forehead his hands clasp the sides of the head to stay still. They end up rocking him into a haze fighting the decision to be made.

Rocking in thought for some time Vlad slows up feeling watched.

Slowly looking up to Ella's watching wolf, he produces a thankful smile.

Both Ella and wolf are amused enough to remain calm. You have some explaining to do?

Sitting up Vlad shakily points at keyboard and monitor, "you missed my response to yours. I'm willing to help you and so was...  the other bat that was with me." He studies her eyes before daring to continue.

She raises a fore-paw towards the computer. Helping is good. Who's this other bat? And what did you write so far?

"Oh the other night when you wanted me to go check out your clean blooded people. We met." He doesn't have to look at her to know she'll want details. "At that tall building you sent me to, two men were on the roof. One guy shot a crossbow at me. The fires a shotgun from overhead. You know those shots threw my wings don't heal right."

In no immediate danger here Vlad readjusts position in the chair. "Cutting through that tall building I got the hell out of there. The sound of that gun going off in the dead of night alerted a lot of people including the individual you met here yesterday. She followed the sound spotting me leaving town and caught up to me at the highway exchange. We talked there, so I could find out who they were first. I wasn't sure if it was a crazy dream. Her name is Filomena she's as old as us and says there's others like us out there."

Seeing the wolf merely staring at him keeps Vlad calm. He repeats the conversation to the best of his recollection.

Ella appreciates hearing he didn't fully trust her. She's now wondering if the cows are hers or his. The wolf remembers smelling more of Vladimir on the cow property. Again Ella points a paw at the monitor. What did you reply to me?

"Oh this," Vlad points to the screen reading to her what was typed.

Though the message left says little, she's delighted to hear they're willing to help and sought her approval. Which helps her come to terms with his newfound relationship, and knowing such a chance, she doesn't want to hinder them, she just can help feeling alone.

Vladimir spot a sadder look within her eyes knowing she understands. "We are still willing to help you. Us both changing at night, I'm not sure what we can do? But we'll do it. We're also willing to reside together. Canine, bats and humans like to be in groups. But Filomena is terrified of you." He cutely smiles at her, "you know I love you? Right?"

Oh, my god Vlad. Did you just say it? You love me. With a twinkle to the eye the wolf's head tilts to the side. Never expecting to hear the last two thoughts gives her some hope for the future, lone wolf or woman.

The wolf seeming appeased Vlad recants the next night's discussion, fessing up to the cow mansion. Explaining he didn't want to tell her about the cows worried the wolf may kill them or she may want him to wrangle them back to their farm. Having already figured that the wolf motions with a paw to carry on.

He explains waking to Filomena trying on the shoes left in the house. He boldly tells Ella they were about to get frisky when interrupted by Hoss' son and three other youths. He then recounts the situation that followed.

The wolf and Ella are thankful for the cow caught in the shooting. They do worry about Hoss' men getting the rest. Hearing about him chasing down the transport truck she soon realizes why she picked up his scent there. I ran all over making sure you were okay too. Get shot at myself trying to protect us and find you back here with the bat. Barely know her and you shared our bed and I bet our whole lives with her.

Thinking she might eat Vlad stands to retrieve a container of turkey from the refrigerator, "we saw nothing to eat, the whole flight back. We were so hungry figured this is close enough to an emergency to bleed one of the turkeys. We cooked up the meat to share."

Placing a pound of meat on a white plate Vlad sets it on the table before Ella, "here you go. If you'd like some?"

Vlad places the rest in the fridge. "I Didn't tell Fil this was our farm, she knew. And she was worried you'd disapprove. Shows you she's got respect for you."

The wolf stands to eat the turkey from the plate. Oh buying me off with burnt offerings now. They do like the taste and keep eating.

Vlad sits back down. "I don't know how much of this you'll recall so I'll type out some of it for later. Be a time and date to it. I think using the camera we can take a picture to prove you and me were here." He pauses to watch the wolf chew on a chunk of turkey.

Poking the keys Vlad tries to type out what's necessary: Ella despite the incident that occurred before you read this message, Filomena a newly found lycanthrope, has potential to be a friend and more to us. I would like to continue being here for you even assisting with a transfusion but with the possibility of meeting a mate like you once thought there might be I have to at least see where it goes before considering a transformation. Even in that I would be glad to stay with you. Filomena is also willing to share a home and life together if you'd consider it. Until I know better about Filomena I'll make sure to be here for you and the animals. If you can't get over it I'll understand. I'm hoping by the time I can be certain about Filomena as a decent being, you'll be willing to accept her more. Let me know what you want to do.

Finished with the turkey Ella is thankful Vlad wasn't mushy and sentimental just remains heartbroken.  That's all you have to say?

The wolf approaches Vlad while seated to look him in the eye. He thankfully sees only sadness.

Nestling her head into his side Ella wipes a wet lip across his clean shirt. Resting her head on his lap a moment, she sighs.

Vlad sighs too stroking the top of her head, "I'm sorry about Paval."

She is too and has always wondered what really could've happened there.

He keeps calmly running his hand across her head, "do you think there are many more of us out there? Do you think we'll ever meet them?"

Maybe. Ella exhales deeply through the nose. Can't see finding another wolf.

Sighing Vlad understands, "no matter what you decide Ella I want to help and do right by you. When you're ready to put down your words, I won't take forever to read or reply."

Unable to speak and needing more time to think she pulls away, trotting for the open patio door.

Again Vlad watches her leave head down and tail between the legs, "oh Ella."
