Chapter 4 - Getting Sick
My birthday is coming up. It’s in a few days, and I know Papa is trying to have a huge sweet sixteen party for me. I've tried telling him that I don’t want anything big. I just want something small for my friends and family. But you know Tony Stark. Everything must happen with a “BANG!” and I don’t just mean metaphorically. I am excited, but I've been feeling a bit weird recently, like the calm before the storm. And it isn't lady problems, because that already happened. I just feel awkward in my own skin. I’d tell Daddy and Papa, but then they’d just have me get a check-up from Uncle Bruce, and I don’t want that. They’d always freak out if I even THOUGHT I might be sick, and I don’t want to ruin this day for them.

The day before my birthday, I was at school and I got sick. I felt fine, and then I ran to the bathroom and threw up. Not a pretty sight. My friend came to check on me before taking me to the nurse’s office. I thanked her before the nurse made her go back to class. The nurse had me lay down and gave me a trash can just in case I got sick again. She then went through some papers and called my dads.
‘Great.’ I thought to myself as she called them and I heard them panic on the phone. The nurse had asked them to come pick me up. As she hung up, I started to get a really bad headache. That was when Peter decided to show up. “Hey Liz. I heard what happened. How are you feeling?” I moaned before holding my head to let him know. “Don’t worry; I’m sure it’s nothing too bad.” He said and smiled kindly at me. Peter has always been caring and protective of me, ever since we were little. It got worse as I became a freshman, and he was a junior, and a bunch of guys kept asking me out. Of course I would reject them, but Peter always felt better with a small threat.
About 10-15 minutes later, Daddy and Papa burst in, worried out of their minds. Thankfully I didn't get sick again, or else they would have freaked out even more. “Hey.” I croaked out, as I hadn't talked since I got sick. “Oh no! How are you feeling princess?” Papa asked me. “I’m fine Papa. I just have a headache, and I haven’t talked in a bit.” I said, trying to calm him down. “Are you sure you’re feeling alright?” Daddy asked me as he put his hand to my forehead. “I’m fine. I just want some painkillers for this killer headache.” I stated. “Mr. Rogers?” the nurse asked. “Yes?” “May I speak with you for a minuet?” she waited for a reply. He looked at us before going with her.
As Daddy went with the nurse, Papa tried to hug me, but I just groaned in pain. “Are you sure you’re okay princess?” He asked again. “Yeah, just stiff I guess.” I reassured him. “Has she ever been really sick before?” The nurse asked Daddy. “No ma’am. She’s had minor fevers before, but not in a couple years.” He said. “I suggest taking her to a doctor. The teachers have noticed that she hadn't been feeling well recently, and then this happens” the nurse said. “Alright, thank you ma’am.” “No problem Mr. Rogers.” They both walked back into the room. ‘They left the room? It sounded like they were right there.’ I thought to myself, confused as to how I could hear them.
“Do you think you can walk?” Daddy asked me. “Yeah, just give me a sec.” I said before slowly sitting up and throwing my legs off the bed. I groaned in pain as I slowly stood up after laying in that bed for 30 minutes. “Are you positive that you’re okay Liz?” Peter asked as well. “I said I’m fine, just stiff. Now stop asking.” I proclaimed before walking out of the nurse’s office and into the front office. “Miss? Where are you going?” The lady at the front desk asked. “My dads are coming to sign me out. Here they come.” I say as I look back toward the nurse’s office. “Ah, Mr. Rogers and Stark. Are you taking both of your children?” She asked. “Yes.” Replied Papa before going up and signing us out. I then grabbed my bag that my friend brought up to the front office before exiting the building.
Immediately I spotted Papa’s sports car up front. I walk right up to it and wait for him to unlock it before climbing into the back. Peter climbed in after me and let me rest me head in his lap and Papa and Daddy got in. “Do you just want to go home?” Daddy asked. “Yes please.” I said as Papa pulled out of the parking lot. “I’m calling Bruce, and have him meet us at the tower to give you a check-up.” Stated Papa. “Why? I just want some sleep. I’m sure I’ll be fine after some sleep.” I said as I started to doze. Peter started brushing his fingers through my long hair. He’s always done this since we were little, and knows it calms me down from any situation. “It’s just a check-up to make sure you’re okay Elizabeth. Nothing too bad.” Said Daddy as Papa pulled out his phone to call Uncle Bruce.
I didn't realize I fell asleep till Peter was trying to unbuckle my seat-belt without waking me, and failed miserable. I moaned before sitting up and saying, “You know, you could have just said that we were home.” Peter sighed in defeat. “I didn't want to wake you.” I unbuckled myself before opening the car door. “It’s fine, really.” I said as I got out. “Do you need or want anything?” Peter urged. “I just want to sleep in peace.” I stated before walking into the elevator and leaning against the wall. Daddy came up and felt my forehead again. “You’re feeling warm.” I sighed as Papa also came up. “Is our princess getting sick?” I grumbled as Jarvis opened the doors to the living room. “Thanks Jarvis.” I told the machine. “You’re welcome Miss.” Before anyone could protest, I got a water bottle and hopped back in the elevator to go to my room. I drank some water before putting my school stuff down and falling on my bed. I was fast asleep soon after that.

Sometime later, Uncle Bruce came in to check up on me. “How are you feeling?” he asked me. “Stiff, and I have a headache.” I replied. “Can you sit up?” he asked again. I groaned as I slowly sat up and flung my legs over the side of my bed. He put the thermometer in my mouth as he checked my pulse. “You’re temperature and heart rate are both fine, but you do feel warm. You said that you feel stiff?” he asked. “Yes.” Was all I replied with. “Alright, you can go back to sleep if you want.” He stated before leaving me and letting me sleep once again.
