Chapter 8 - Brookies and (More) Big Words

Third Person POV

Ike walks into the Lodge. "Brookie incoming!" He shouts.

"Why the f-" Spot notices Davey's glare. "Frostbite do you call us that?" He questions.

Davey nods approvingly.

"That's my quote!" Race shouts from somewhere else in the house. "If you're going to use it, at least give credit to the person who made it and didn't think of it on the spot because they can't swear around the littles!" He grumbles, walking into the room.

The boys laugh.

"Oh," Race starts. "Hey Spot, Brookies." He waves.

All of the Brooklynites there groan in unison.

"Have you all met the wonderful Eliza Hamilton?" Race asks, making a presenting motion gestured to Eliza.

All of the boys greet Eliza, except Smokes, who's jaw dropped.

Before Smokes could speak, Specs pulled him and Davey away from the other boys.

They heard Race introducing each of the boys, while Specs pulled them into one of the bunk rooms.

"Before you ask," Davey starts. "Yes, that's the real Eliza Hamilton/Schuyler. She doesn't know anything about Phillip or Alexander dying, so don't bring that up. Where she's from, Phillip the first is four, Angelica, the child, is two, and Alexander Jr. is not even one yet." Davey explains.

"Eliza fell out of the sky one day recently and has been here ever since." Specs adds.

Smokes' eyes widen. "If you two are telling me this, it has to be true." He states. "But that's not logical!"

"I know it's not, but we," Davey points around the house. "All of us, saw it with our own eyes."

"Gee Davey, I thought that we saw it with someone else's eyes." Blink sarcastically states, handing upside-down from the ceiling.

Davey and Specs roll their eyes.

Smokes got scared, letting out a yell and falling onto his butt on the floor.

"Smokes," Ace shouts from downstairs. "Are you alright?" He asks.

Specs, Davey, and Blink laugh.

Blink flips down from the ceiling, helping Smokes up.

Smokes leaves the room without a word, causing the three boys to laugh harder.

Smokes goes downstairs, finding Red, Spot, Albert, and Hotshot pouting, and Race, Ike, and Boots sitting across from them, arms crossed and glaring.

"Ooh," Smokes smirks. "Are we ignoring the boys pouts for cuddles since they teased us too much?" He asks.

The boys nod.

"Please don't drag Smokes into this." Ace pleads.

"Too late." Ike states, as Smokes sits down next to him.

"Wow Smokes," Jack laughs. "You all look so scary together. So fierce." He jokes.

The boys roll their eyes.

"We may not look scary, but if you flirt with us, we will smack you." Ike threatens. "Or high-kick you."

The other three boys nod.

Race looked to be beaming with pride because Ike mentioned his threat.

Their boyfriends chuckle. They knew this wasn't true, but they'd let them pretend that it was.

They also knew it wasn't true.

Buttons and Henry just watched, sitting next to Jack and Eliza, laughing.

This happened pretty often when Smokes, Race, Boots, and Ike got together.

Either this, or they'd run to the roof to complain about their boyfriends flirting and babying them.

Though, Red didn't baby Boots as much as the other boys did to their boyfriends, mainly because Boots had enough common sense to tell Red when he was hurt and to not get in fights all the time.

Ike wasn't always babied by Hotshot, and they both took turns babying each other when hurt, but he was more than Boots was by Red.

Smokes and Race though, they were a completely different story.

Smokes and Race almost never got the chance where they could baby their boyfriends for a change, and Race was very stubborn when it came to being hurt and telling them when he was hurt.

They were both smart, books and street wise (though Race not as much as Smokes and Specs) but they got in a good amount of fights defending themselves and the ones they love.

"You know this is going to backfire on us," Boots whispers to his three best friends.

It was a statement.

They knew it would.

It always did.

"Run?" Smokes whispers, looking between the other boys.

The other three boys nod.

They jump up, grabbing hands, and running out the backdoor.

"Hey!" Spot shouts.

The other five boys get up, running after them.

Buttons, Henry, and Jack laugh.

Eliza chuckles a bit.

"Uh..." Mike walks into the room from the backdoor. "Why is my twin and our best friends/brothers getting chased by their boyfriends?" He questions.

Jack laughs harder. "They-" he tried to catch his breath. "Boycotted affection from their boyfriends- like usually-" he laughs again. "Because they were teasing them." He explains in between breaths.

Mike nods. "Yeah, I'm going to find my boyfriend." He states, before walking up the stairs.

The three Newsies in the room start laughing harder.

Davey wraps his arm around his boyfriend from behind him. "I'm so proud of you." He whispers, grinning.

Jack chuckles. "Cause I used a big word?" He questions.

Davey grins, sitting with him.

"Man," Specs sits down on the floor. "I wish my boyfriend used big words." He mutters.

As if he was summoned, Romeo strolls into the room. "I am cocky that I look good today and have the best boyfriend ever!" He announces.

The Newsies in the room, along with Eliza, laugh.

Specs chuckles. "True, but I'm pretty sure that's not the word you meant to use." He comments.

Romeo's eyebrows furrow. "Isn't that the one Davey told Tommy boy was like Jack when he thinks he has a good idea, but it's never a good idea?" He innocently asks.

Jack shoots an offended look at his boyfriend, who laughs.

Eliza chuckles. "No, honey, that's confident. Cocky is like Spot or Jack when he talks about how great he is." She explains.

Romeo nods, plopping himself in his boyfriend's lap.

Specs entangles his hands in his boyfriend's hair.

He could feel that Romeo's hair was barely washed, but he could also feel the fact that Romeo saved up for shampoo and conditioner and tried to make his hair as clean as possible every morning.

He spent a lot of time making sure he looked good, and not even for girls anymore.

He did it for himself.

And Specs.

But himself.

"What can I say?" Jack rests his head on Davey's shoulder. "I'm wonderful." He smiles cheekily.

The people in the room chuckle.

"Yes, you are." Davey whispers, placing a kiss onto his forehead.

Jack smiles.

Eliza swore she felt her heart melt.
