Chapter 2 - The Newsies
Third Person POV
One of the Newsies helped Eliza stand up.
Eliza thanks the boy, who tips his hat, before she dusts off the skirt of her dress.
Eliza looks around the boys.
The one in the blue shirt steps forward, looking to be the oldest. "Um," He didn't know what to say.
Another stepped forward, this one looking more proper and put together. "Miss, my name is Davey, or David, Jacobs. It's not very logical for someone to fall out of the sky, so don't mind my friends' shocked faces, and please don't take it personally."
Eliza chuckles. "It's very much okay, Davey. I hope I don't make falling out of the sky a habit."
Davey smiles a bit, holding his hand out for her to shake.
Eliza smiles, shaking his hand. "Eliza, or Elizabeth, Hamilton." She introduces herself.
Davey's eyes widen. "As in- Alexander Hamilton's wife? The second oldest Schuyler sister? War hero Phillip Schuyler's daughter?" He asks.
Eliza smiles. "That's me, but uh-" She stops, confusion showing in her brown eyes. "How do you know that stuff?"
Davey blushes a bit. "I learned about you in school. You're in my history books." He explains, watching what he said.
Eliza nods, taking in this information.
"Um," Davey starts, clapping his hands together slightly. "I guess we should introduce ourselves."
A little boy runs up to Eliza, shaking her hand. "Hi! My name's Les! You're very pretty! Romeo said to compliment pretty women!" He exclaims excitedly.
Eliza chuckles.
Davey pushes Les away a bit. "Yeah, please never listen to anything Romeo says." A boy shouts in protest, but Davey ignores him. "We don't flirt with married people." Davey turns to face Eliza. "Les is my little brother."
Eliza nods, chuckling a bit.
The boy in the blue shirt steps forward again, his hand out. "I'm Jack Kelly. The leader of the Manhattan Newsies."
Eliza shakes his hand.
Her head was tilted to the side a bit. "If I may ask," Davey nods. "What are 'Newsies'?" She inquires.
Jack smiles. "We sell newspapers. We just gave ourselves a cool name, partially because we didn't want to make it for only boys and call ourselves 'Newsboys'." He explains.
Eliza smiles, seemingly happy with this.
"Though," Davey sighs, frowning a bit. "There aren't many girls here. Smalls and Sniper live in the Bronx and there are a few Brooklyn girls." He smiles at Eliza. "After this, we'll take you to meet Miss Medda, Katherine, and Sarah. I'm sure Miss Medda can help you."
Eliza smiles, hands folded. "That would be very nice. I'm sure this 'Miss Medda' lady is very kind."
Jack puts his arm on Davey's shoulder. "My pal, Davey, here is the only one who calls her 'Miss'. We all just call her 'Medda'."
Eliza smiles. "Well, it's always good to be polite." She nods towards Davey.
Davey smiles a bit.
Jack pats Davey's back, causing Davey to flinch slightly.
Another boys steps forward, a cigar hanging from his lips. "My name is Racetrack Higgins. Most people just call me Race or Racer."
Eliza shakes his hand. "It's very nice to meet you, Race."
Race smiles.
One by one, the Manhattan Newsies introduced themselves to Eliza.
"Sup, I'm Albert DaSilva. I'm sixteen."
A/B, yes. Albert saying 'sup' is now a thing in my books lol.
"Hi! I'm Elmer Kasprzak! I'm fifteen!"
"Hi, my name is Crutchie Morris. I'm sixteen."
"Good morning, Mrs. My name is Specs Willis. I'm sixteen."
"Hi! He's Ike Guzman! He's fifteen!"
"He's Mike Guzman! He is the same age as me!"
"Morning, Mrs. My name is Romeo Derosa. I'm fifteen."
"I'm Buttons Davenport, Mrs. I'm fifteen."
"I'm Henry Bulter. I'm sixteen."
"I'm Boots Davis, hi. I'm sixteen as of three days ago."
"Hiiiiiii! My name is Josephine Jorgelino, but the boys call me JoJo, and most everyone else. I'm fifteennnnn."
"Hi. I'm Tommy boy Demaski. I'm..."
"Love, speak up a bit please."
"I'm fifteen."
"Hello. I'm Finch Cortes. I'm sixteen years old."
"Hello Mrs.! My name is Mush Meyers! I'm fifteen!"
"I'm Blink! I'm sixteen, Mrs."
"Hi hi! I'm Lucky Willis! I got my name cause I'm lucky! I'm ten."
"Nine."
"Almost ten."
Eliza chuckles.
Eliza really liked Crutchie. She thought he was very sweet, along with a few of the others.
"Um..." Davey trails off, running his hand through his hair. "I guess Jack and I will take you to Medda's. You can stay with her while we sell, then you can meet Katherine and Sarah, and we'll help you find a place to stay."
"That would be very nice, Davey." Eliza agrees, smiling warmly at him. "I don't know much about 1899, since I have only really lived through 1786."
Davey nods, chuckling a bit. "I understand."
Davey bends down to Les' height. "I'm going to send you with Specs, alright? You'll be with Lucky." He tells him.
Les nods. "Can Romeo come too?" He asks innocently.
Davey mentally groans.
Jack laughs.
"If he wants," Davey answers.
Les turns around.
Davey immediately shoots Romeo a look that said 'If you turn my brother into you, I will not be happy'.
Romeo smirks a bit. "I'd love to come!" He smiles at Les.
Les grins, grabbing Lucky's hand, and skipping off, Specs and Romeo following them.
Race pouts. "I feel betrayed. Lucky was supposed to sell with me today." He turns to Davey.
"He can sell with you tomorrow. This is one day that I can't sell with him, so Lucky and Les will be together." Davey responds.
Race nods, walking towards Brooklyn.
A few other boys tip their hats to Eliza, saying their goodbyes, before leaving.
Eliza noticed that certain Newsies had different accents.
Jack, and most of the boys, had very strong New York accents.
Race had a slight bit of Italian in his New York accent.
Specs had a slightly less noticeable New York accent, but it was still there.
Davey sounded more proper and used bigger vocabulary, but he still had a small New York accent.
Les had a very obvious New York accent, no matter how much Davey tried to deny it.
"Shall we head to Medda's?" Jack questions.
Davey and Eliza nod, starting the walk to Medda's, though it was mainly Jack leading them while Eliza asked a few questions about the time and the Newsies.
She liked them.

I feel soo bad because I'm supposed to self advocate and my Italian teacher took forever to put the captions on the video and he was so confused, but so sweet.
