Chapter 14: Training

Sorry for such a long wait. It's not my best but please enjoy.

"You're kidding me."

"Nope." Percy could've sworn Omega was smirking under his hood. His emerald cloak reflected the lights of the early morning giving him an angelic aura.

"Drop and give me 60." Omega said again.

Percy let out a groan, "and after that?"

"Two laps around the block." Omega said easily.

"Oh is that all?" Percy replied sarcastically.

The training arena had been changed since He'd last been there, though Luke informed him that it was mostly Omega twisting some magic. The wooden floor, basket ball court, sat in the middle of the room now, with a variety of weapons all over the place. The floating targets were left at different heights, some floating so high Percy couldn't see them, others so low he was afraid he'd hit his head.

The thing that made Percy the most nervous, was the stands. The surrounded the court in a circle like the original Colosseum. People sat in patches talking excitedly. The Elite sat up front and Percy could see Luke in the middle laughing, and Secret between Revenge, who had a sour look on his face, and Forge who was tinkering with something in his hands. Halo was laughing as he cleaned a couple of his arrows and Grapevine was grinning.

Percy wished Bianca would hurry up and show up. He was getting anxious for almost no reason. How long did it take to copy a bunch of pictures?

Even though Percy hadn't been cursed, he felt like he had. Even a couple of the townsfolk had shown up and he could've sworn they were placing bets.

"Just ignore them." Omega said, bringing him back to the Training session. "They're trying to distract you."

"It's working." Percy informed him, "I'm totally about to look like an idiot."

"Nah," Omega waved his comment away, "Let's just get started. 60 pushups, go!"

Percy took a deep breath and then he dropped to the floor. He let his mind go blank and started focusing on training. Up, down, up, down. Easy, not so hard. In the back of his mind he could hear, Hero and Halo cheering him on obnoxiously. Some friends he had.

"Two laps! Go!" Omega didn't even wait for Percy to finish his last push up. Percy struggled back to his feet sweat already pouring down his back. He started jogging towards the door.

"This is Running, Savoir!" Omega shouted, "Run it!" Omega bounded beside him easily. Percy was grateful because he still didn't know his way around yet. Though he was slightly annoyed at how flawless Omega made it look.

"I know you can run faster than that!" Omega yelled again. Percy was tempted to tell him that he was right next to him so Omega didn't need to yell, but he refrained. The citizens walking along the streets moved out of their way cheering. It was like some major sporting event. Percy could see the looks in everyone's faces, happy, peaceful, sometimes even wonder. Over his own breathing, the cheering sounded like roars, gathering more to their wake.

"Don't...these people... have...something else...to do?" Percy asked, between pants, "like...school or...jobs?"

Omega laughed beside him, like he'd said the funniest thing in the world. But other than that Omega offered no explanation. The arena swung back into view for a second time and a sense of relief flooded through Percy.

He bounded the last twenty yards, charging into the arena center. He slid his shoes and pivoted to face Omega.

He seemed to be calculating something. A thoughtful expression on his face. "Let's start with archery." He said finally.

Percy's eyes went wide. "What?!"

"Archery." Omega pulled a bow and a quiver of arrows from nearby and held them out to him.

Percy took a step away, "I don't think you understand." Percy said, "I have terrible aim."

"I'll stand behind you."

"That's what my other teacher said. I still managed to hit him."

"Just do it." Omega sighed.

Percy wanted to say no and just leave. He was unreasonably hot, but he couldn't take off his cloak. He was sweaty and still out of breath from their run. But he rolled his shoulders and sighed.

Then he took the bow. "Which target?"

"See that one floating by the axes?" Omega pointed to a blue hovering target in front of a section of seats that no one was around.

Savoir lined himself up. He notched the arrow trying his best to block out the conversations of the other people in the stadium. For a second Percy closed his eyes. The sound melded away and instead he imagined laughter. Annabeth's laughter. It helped him focus. He almost felt like he was back home on the shooting range.

Then Percy opened his eyes and let go of the arrow.

You'd think this would be the part were he hit a bullseye or some other impossible trick. Nope. The white feather tail wobbled slightly as it's tip embed itself in the wall.

"That wasn't so bad!" Omega said, "Try another one."

Percy grudgingly took another arrow. He tried the same method again, shifting his aim in miniscule proportions. He concentrated on Annabeth. Her bond curls, her soft lips, her stormy gray eyes. Not the strange eyes she had in his dreams. Because those were dreams and they couldn't possibly be actually happening.

That's what Bianca said. He glanced at the stands hoping she'd be there by then. But she wasn't. Percy wondered how many pictures Huntress could possibly need.

Then he let go of his second arrow.

This time the arrow swerved crazily. Like an invisible wind was hitting it the arrow changed direction and headed straight for the Elite. None of them were really paying attention. Forge was telling something to Secret holding up his mini machine between his fingers as if catching the sunlight. His machine had to be smaller than a half dollar coin.

Percy didn't even have time to shout. The arrow hit his machine dead on. If it had been off even a millimeter, Forge would've lost a finger.

"How did you even do that?" Omega asked with pure awe as Forge leapt backwards swearing enough to make Secret fan her face like Hazel did when she was flustered.

That just made Hero and Halo laugh harder. Grapevine was grinning again, somewhere between shock and joking. Even Revenge had a small smile on his face.

"Can we just not ever do this again?" Percy asked setting the bow down like it was a dangerous radioactive material. Which for Percy, it kinda was.

Omega nodded. "How good are you with a spear?"

After a couple attempt with spears, which he sucked at, they moved to axes, which he also sucked at, then to maces, which he definitely sucked at.

Percy collapsed against the wall. Omega seemed frustrated. He paced muttering under his breath scanning the weapons around him.

"There has to be a weapon you are good at!" He fumed.

"Swords." Percy offered, "I'm good with swords."

"I mean other than a sword. I did read your file-"

"File?" Percy muttered.

Omega continued like he hadn't even spoken, "-I'm talking about if you loose your sword. What can you use as a backup?" Omega pulled out his own sword, a glistening black and green, wide blade, and sharpened to a literal point.

"Oh, yes, because everyone's going to have maces just laying around." Percy eyed the wall and chain weapon, his voice radiating sarcasm.

"Of course." Omega said picking up on his joking tone, "You never know. Especially when someone you call a friend and trust, suddenly turns on you."

Percy ducked not a second too soon.

He rolled to the side as Omega's sword slashed the stone wall he'd just been leaving on. The slash mark was at least two inches, and Omega pulled it out easily.

"Well then." Percy yelped. He didn't even have time to uncap Riptide, Omega elbowed him to the ground pointing his sword to Percy's neck.

Omega smirked, "That was too easy. I win."

Percy felt his face flush. But he grinned anyway. "I learned a long time ago, never assume you've won." Percy wedged his thumb under his pen cap and flicked it off.

Omega realized it too late. Percy one handedly, slashed across his thigh. Omega yelled out his entire body paying for a second while it tried to reconnect. Percy rolled from underneath Omega in his confusion, and leapt to his feet.

He could hear Luke yelling and Revenge obviously booing behind him. Omega turned around, but Percy was already charging him.

Riptide swung in a arc pressing Omega back. For a second it looked like Percy had the upper hand. Then with a flick of Omega's hand Riptide was launched into the air.

"What now?" Omega asked almost chastisingly.

Percy looked at Omega stance. His deadly sword was gripped loosely in his right hand, but he held it like he'd been use to holding something a lot smaller.

Either way, Percy was weapon-less. So he did what he always did when he had no clue what to do. He turned to WWAD.

What Would Annabeth Do? Talk and distract.

"I ask you to surrender." Percy said more confidently than he felt.

It must have thrown Omega because he frown, "What?"

"Are you going to surrender?" Percy asked again, "I mean it's clear I'm about to win and everything."

Without waiting to see what Omega would do Percy grabbed the nearest weapon, an axe, and threw it at him. Omega didn't seemed surprised he batted it aside with his sword but he did look shocked find Percy slamming into him second later.

Omega was knocked off his feet, his sword clattering out of his grip, not that it mattered. Omega flipped Percy up into the air in some type of drunk somersault.

Percy hit the ground, skidding against the wall. He rolled away, as Omega stabbed the area he'd just been.

Percy grabbed a spear. He couldn't help but think of Clarisse and her spear and then of his weird nightmare-dreams.

But then he flung the sharpened tip in a circle aiming it into Omega's side, the same side he'd just stabbed with Riptide.

Then something happened, Omega grabbed the spear before it hit him. The jerking motion threw Percy off and in that time Omega slammed the spear head down.

Percy wasn't sure what happened after that. Only that his feet left the ground and he was launched unexpectedly into the air.

He choked down a curse, trying to stomach his weightlessness. He did not like the idea of crashing into the floor head first even if he couldn't die again, that would hurt.

Something flung by his head. Percy reached out and grabbed the object. One of the floating targets. Percy flipped himself readjusting his weight. He could only hope the bullseye wouldn't fall. It leveled out allowing Percy to crouch on the surface. It wasn't much wider than a stepping stone.

Luke was once again shouting encouragement. Which was more distracting than it was helpful. Percy glanced for a second over there, Bianca and Huntress weren't there yet.

Percy felt a weight in his pocket return And he pulled out his sword. He barely had time to think before Omega was shooting arrows at him.

He tried to block but it was slightly unfair considering Omega could shoot three arrows at a time and Percy was a semi-big target. He almost felt like he was playing a game of dodgeball, but it was nothing like his last time playing it. He whinced slashing the feather darts out of the air.

One scraped by his ear the whistling sound coming in at a screech, Percy shifted away to avoid it.

Of course that's when the target flipped from under him.

"Styx!" Percy yelled. He went weightless again. For a moment everything blurred together. Then he hit the floor. It was a crazy feeling, his body absorbed the shock and he felt nothing. But he knew he should've felt pain. Strange.

Omega appeared in a cloud of green slamming his sword downwards. Percy wrestled with Riptide tightening his wrist until he though it would break.

Strength against strength. And Omega had the upper hand.

Percy could almost see under his cloak, they were so close. Something with a glint of silver covered his Omega's, Percy thought, off handedly. Percy shoved his blade back countering the deadlock.

Percy was sweating, his arm shaking with the effort. Omega was grunting apparently very annoyed.

Then they almost both died.

Well not literally, considering they were both already dead, but Percy was shocked As a moonlit sliver arrow zipped between them. He felt the wind from it as it nearly clipped his shoulder.

Omega looked just as surprised.

It thudded against the stone wall wedging just over Revenge's head.

Their fight momentarily forgotten, Percy and the Elite turn to the archer who so desperately need their attention. Huntress stood in the entrance shaking visibly. Her bow dropped from her hand with a clatter. Something was not right.

Luke jumped over the seating railing flying to her. His cloak bagged around him, but he got there just in time to catch her before she fell over entirely.

"Huntress!" Secret yelled. Halo ran for the stairs his stethoscope appearing around his neck in a golden flash.

Omega turned towards the citizens who were standing to get a better view of the Chaos Solider. "The match had been postponed!" Omega yelled his voice amplifying loudly in the cavernous room. "Everyone please leave!"

Mutterings and whispers filled the room, Halo looked up at them his mouth in a thin line.

Percy and Omega hurried over followed by the rest of the team. Percy could see Huntress was an obvious pale and getting paler. Her entire body was shaking like she was freezing.

"It's the Dimetrion Disease." Halo said, severely, "I don't know how, but what it is."

"But the Dimetrion Disease hasn't been on this planet in years." Grapevine said, "I should know, I've had it."

Halo shrugged. Percy didn't know what a Dimetrion Disease was but it must have been serious they way the Elite was reacting. Percy had to fight the urge to step back. Something that could do this to an undead warrior girl, could be extremely dangerous. Huntress coughed, shuddering in Hero's arms.

Percy looked around before finally meeting Luke's eyes. "Where's ArchAngel?" He asked worriedly, "What Happened?"

"He....took...Her..." Huntress gasped.

"Who?" Forge asked, "Huntress, who?"

But it was too late Huntress collapsed fully into Hero, her eyes rolled back, and she lost consciousness.
