Magic Mirror On The Wall, You're The Dumbest Of Them All
"Evie's magic mirror? You mean the one her mom gave her? How would that help?" I ask.
"If we ask it right, it can tell us how to get a cure." Ben says.
"But it only shows where things are, not what to do." Carlos says. "It only answers specific questions at its original size."
"So, we get Mal to make it grow back." I suggest.
"That might work." Carlos admits. "But who would ask it? Evil Queen was the only person. I'm not sure if it would even answer Evie at full size."
"We'll just have to try. Come on." I grab his hand and pull him up. "You coming, Ben?"
"Yeah. I'll come." he gets up and follows us out, Dude walking dejectedly behind us. We walk down the halls as I think about our strange problem of running into problems.
Was this how Carlos felt when I told him I was dying? Right now I'm feeling a bit desperate, and ready to literally murder anybody if it means saving him.
(Well, not anybody. But you get the idea.)
And Dude! He's just a tiny fuzzball! How old is he, anyway?
"Mal!" Ben yells as he sees her in the hallway. "Can you make things grow?"
"Um, yes?" She glances around at our group. "Why?"
"Come with us." Ben grabs her hand and explains along the way. "You think it'll work?"
"Well, we'd still have to go looking for whatever it tells us, but it sounds like it would work." Mal admits. "Just going to say, the mirror will have to be removed from the museum for it to work properly. I remember Evil Queen saying that it was picky it not be around other "fake" magical objects."
"Weird." I say.
"You have no idea." Mal laughs.
Ben opens up the museum and asks some workers to take Evie's mirror out. Very confused, they hand it over and we run out and set it on the concrete.
"Oh! It needs to be on a wall." Mal says. "I can't think of many things that rhyme with "concrete," can you?"
I grab it and lean it against the stone outside of the museum. It looks very tiny.
Mal bites her lip for a moment. "Um... Spells... Got it."
She raises her hands and green magic starts flowing. "Magic Mirror on the wall, grow past the size you are now---small."
"Really?" Carlos smiles.
"Hey, it was all I could think of!" Mal says.
"Look, it's working!" I yell, stepping between them.
Everyone watches as the tiny mirror fixes it's own cracks and starts wiggling around, growing in size and spookiness until it jumps of the ground and sticks to the wall. A white face appears in it and stares at us.
"Who are you?" It says in a snide voice.
"You're not supposed to ask the questions." Mal scolds.
"I only answer to the Evil Queen." He says.
"Go get Evie." I whisper to Dude. He nods and runs off.
"Again, who are you?" The mirror asks.
"Mal, daughter of Maleficent." Mal says.
"King Ben, Beast and Belle's son." Ben says.
"Carlos, son of Cruella De Vil." Carlos mutters.
"Ellie, daughter of Elsa and Hades." I sigh.
The mirror's eyes pop. Or, the black spots do. "WHAT? Daughter of Hades? So sorry, so sorry, your, um, Queenliness, I didn't recognize you."
Carlos elbows me. "Seems being daughter of death has some perks."
"No kidding." I mutter. "So I can ask you questions, and you'll answer?"
"No rhyming required for you, milady!" he squeaks.
"Oooh, bonus!" I say.
"Ask already." Mal complains. "E will get here soon, and do you really want her to find out her mirror doesn't work on just her?"
"Fine. Magic Mirror, how do you cure it when you accidentally give your powers to two of your best friends?"
"Elaborate."
So I do. I tell him what happened, who has what power, and what we read in the book.
"Pffft. Easy answer. The answer is you three. The cursed, and the curser."
"Elaborate." I drawl.
He turns pink, something I hadn't thought possible. "The powers were born inside you, your deathliness. Not in them. So, to get them out, you just need to have them give them back to you."
"I'm sorry, that doesn't make any sense." I say.
"They need to use the powers more than they can handle." The stupid mirror says. "Let it overload their systems."
"Uh, so, basically, we need to kill ourselves like Ellie tried to do?" Carlos asks.
The mirror goes dead silent.
"Answer him." I say.
"RRRRRRGH." The mirror complains. "Yes. Kill yourselves for all I care. Not you, your blackness!"
"You can just call me Ellie. Seriously."
"Yes, Ellieness!"
"Oi." I groan.
"Hi guys!" Evie runs over with Dude. "Dude said---Oh." She sees the mirror. "Never mind. I'm guessing it worked for you, Ellie?"
"Yeah."
"Mom always said it used to work for Hades. I thought she was joking." Evie laughs.
"SHE WAS NOT!" The magic mirror sniffs. Then he disappears with a poof.
"So did we get what we needed?" Dude asks, wagging his tail.
I run my fingers through my hair. "Basically, you guys need to use my powers to their fullest." I say. "So.... Like a gigantic snowball for you, Dude, since you're so tiny any bigger things might really kill you. And Carlos... trying killing something."
"WHAT?"
"Not a person!" I say quickly.
"ITS CALLED A SNOSEBALL!" Dude breaks in, still wagging his tail.
"Fine, Dude. And Carlos, I meant like a tree or something. Something big, though."
"Oh. Not much better. But okay." he says.
"SNOSEBALL!" Dude yells with finality.
