Mal must know she won't get to the wand in time, because just as Maleficent's hand wraps around it, Mal screams "And now I command, wand to my hand!" The wand glows gold and zips into Mal's outstretched palm. "Ha! Ha! It worked!" Mal says in disbelief. I clap loudly before I remember where we are. 

Maleficent glares at me then at Mal. "I hardly think so." She mutters. She starts pacing around. "Frankly, this is very tedious, and very immature. Give me the wand, GIMME THE WAND!" she screeches. 

"Hold on, Mal." Carlos breaks in. "Maybe good is more powerful than evil."

"It is!" I yell. "Look at you all!"

Maleficent snorts. "Ohhhh please, you're killing me! Arf!" She snaps at Carlos, who backs up a bit. Then barking fills the cathedral and Dude out of nowhere springs up to Maleficent. 

"AH! Oh, the breath! The breath! Get off me!" She pushes Dude off of her. Jay darts forward and tries to steal her scepter. It doesn't budge. 

"Gaston should be jealous." Maleficent flicks his forehead and he falls backward.

"Jay!" I yell, running down from the steps to join the VK's. He gets up and glares at Maleficent. 

"ENOUGH!" Maleficent screams. "You all will regret this!" Black and green smoke gathers around her and grows until we can't see her, and she's as tall as the cathedral itself. Then the smoke dissipates.  A huge purple and black dragon is in Maleficent's place. The piercing yellow eyes stare at us. Maleficent targets Jay and I and blows a burst of flame at us. Jay rolls to the side but I manage to divert most of it with a blast of ice. 

Jay grabs my wrist and pulls me around a pillar, but Maleficent is waiting right there. Jay slips and falls forward trying to stop from running into her, so I grab him and pull him out of the way as Dragon Maleficent sends another burst of fire. 

"COME ON ELLIE! RUN JAY RUN!" Carlos yells. I pull harder on Jay, not caring where we run, but Maleficent is always one step ahead. 

"Hurry, guys! Run! Please, come on, just run!" Mal screams. 

Maleficent roars and dives for both of us. Silently cursing this long dress, I let Jay drag me back away from the wand stand and back to our other three friends. We barely make it, and Evie jumps in front. 

"MAGIC MIRROR, SHINE A BRIGHT LIGHT!" She shouts. Light bursts from the mirror, right into Maleficent's eye, making her land hard on the ground. 

"Behind me, E!" Mal shoves Evie behind her still holding the wand. "Leave my friends alone!" 

Maleficent shakes herself off, roaring at all of us. 

"This is between you and me, mother." Mal says. 

Maleficent leans forward to Mal, her eyes glowing a hypnotic green. 

"The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before five hearts as one." Mal says. Maleficent's eyes squint from the strain. I can't imagine what Mal's doing, but it seems to be working. 

"The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before five hearts as one. The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before five hearts as one!" Mal yells. 

Maleficent's eyes look like they're smoking green. Time stretches on, as Mal and Maleficent fight each other silently, and then the dragon suddenly screams in pain and disappears with a puff of green smoke. Mal lets go of her breath, panting hard. She looks at Evie in panic, then FG unfreezes.

"Oh!" FG says in surprise. We all rush forward. 

"What just happened?" I demand.

"I have no idea." Mal says. 

"Did you do it?" Evie asks.

"I don't know!"

"No, no, no, no. Your mother did." Fairy Godmother says. "She shrank to the size of the love in her heart. That's why it's so itty-bitty."

I look down to where we stopped. A tiny purple lizard looks up at us in confusion. 

"Is she going to be like that forever?" Mal asks, kneeling down with FG.

"Well, forever is a long time. You learned to love. So can she." FG smiles at all of us. 

Mal smiles. "I believe this belongs to you." She hands FG the wand. FG smiles proudly. 

"And I believe this." She takes Ben's ring off the ground. "Belongs to you."

Mal smiles and stands up with FG. "You all have earned yourselves an 'A' in Goodness Class. Even you, Ellie. According to the events of last night, I'll be needing to keep the class going. This time, for Auradonians."

"Wait, you knew about last night?" I ask in surprise. 

"I was alerted when my wand went missing around midnight last night. I tracked it to Chad's dorm room and used it to make him tell me why he had stolen it. I also cancelled your mother's contract so that you cannot have you powers taken forcibly." FG tells me. 

"Wait---Then---I get to keep them?" I ask, gesturing down at my frozen body. "But this will drive Chad up the roof!"

She smiles. "He'll never know. This version of your powers was to keep yourself from being frozen. Once I break the spell, you should go back to your former, beautiful self. Of course, if you've changed your mind, I would be happy to remove them for you. It's your choice, dear."

I examine my icy hand. Then turn to my friends. "What d'you guys think?" 

Jay coughs. "I think Carlos might be blushing at the fact that Fairy Godmother just called you beautiful before he could."

"Jay!" Carlos moans. 

Mal ignores them. "You love these powers, and they just saved us all. I say keep 'em."

Evie nods. "Plus, you look good in ice. It really brings out your eyes." She adds quickly.

I turn back to FG. "I'll keep them."

She smiles and turns back to the room. "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-boo!" She waves the wand and the room unfreezes. Ben's the first one to move, roaring at the top of his lungs and running forward. 

"Ben! Okay, okay, we, uh," Mal clears her throat and pats Ben's chest. "We kinda got this all wrapped up here."

Ben stares at her for a second then lunges forward and picks her up, twirling her around in a circle. "Next time I rescue you, okay?"

"Um, I vote on there not being a next time!" I yelp. 

Mal laughs and pats Ben. "Yeah, I agree. Let's not let there be a next time, okay?" She hugs Ben then pulls back and messes up his crown. It's only when I see Doug dropping Chad from his baby-hold that I think to look down at myself. Sure enough, the ice is creeping back into my skin, leaving it milky white as before. 

"Ellie? You okay?" Carlos asks. 

"Never thought I'd say this, but yeah. I'm good with this."I tell him. I see Mal talking to FG and Jane, the curtsying to Audrey. I guess some people can change. 

"Help!" a tiny voice says. I look down in surprise to see a butler covering Maleficent with the wand case.

"Hey!" Mal rushes over. "Careful! That's my mom." The butler bows awkwardly and walks off. Carlos throws his arm over my shoulder and I grin, pulling Evie in on my other side. Once all of us are in a row, Jay whoops. 

"Let's get this party started!"

"Oh-ay, Oh-ay, hey!" We all chorus.

He reaches a hand out to Mal, who dances over and takes it without hesitation. Am I the only one who wonders why all the girl's dresses are suddenly short enough to dance in, and conveniently missing the capes?

Evie starts dancing with Doug, and I don't think I've ever seen Doug this happy.

I do not want to dance in this, I'd trip over everybody. I'm completely content to sit with Jane, who apologized a million times until I forgave her. That is, until Jay and Carlos come over and sit on either side of us.

Carlos helps me up and pulls me on stage, along with Jay and Jane. I start laughing at Carlos' dancing, and catch Audrey dancing with Jay. Who would've thought? The music swelling in my heart, and me feeling happier than I've ever been, I sing along with everybody else.

Ben tries to kiss Mal once, but she turns away and runs off, meeting him again up on the balcony. All of us are forming chains with our arms, Carlos on my one side, Chad on my other. He doesn't apologize, but he doesn't shrink from my touch. Maybe he can change. Maybe we all can. 

Mal's eyes glow green for once instant. 

Or maybe the world will always be a place that has both good. And evil.

Carlos grabs my hand again, and we start dancing. However much I went through to get here, Ben's proclamation, and these kids, made my life the best it could possibly be.

Hello readers! So, Descendants 1 is officially over. *CRI* BUT! Descendants 2 will be coming soon! Sorry if the ending was a little arupt, and that Carlos never actually said he liked Ellie, but more will come in book #2!
