I Promise
A/N: From now on, the book is from Elena's POV
The next morning, Chiron moved Percy to the Cabin Three and I moved my stuff from the Big House so that Percy wouldn't be alone. He still hadn't talked to me after what happened the previous day, so I was a little startled when he spoke suddenly:
"Why did you never tell me?"
I knew what he meant. Why didn't I tell him who I was? Why didn't I tell him who he was? I stayed silent for a few minutes, trying to give an appropriate response.
"Like Chiron told you when you arrived: It wasn't safe to tell you. The more you knew, the more danger you were in."
"What about you then? How come you knew everything years back? How come it was safe for you??" He demanded, a hint of betrayal in his eyes.
I hesitated a little before I replied, "I'm a different story."
"Different how? Please, Elena. No more secrets. I'm so confused right now, Ela. Just... tell me everything." Percy pleaded.
I didn't speak. I couldn't speak. I had no idea how or even where to begin. How can I tell him that I'm immortal as long as I don't get killed? How can I tell him that because of what I was made to become, I was an outcast even among Demigods?
But I also knew that I couldn't leave him in the dark. Steeling myself for Percy's reaction, I started talking, a little hesitant:
"It's difficult to explain, but here goes nothing. Long story short, I was 'blessed' by the twelve Olympians and a few other minor Gods to protect Olympus. Which means that I have few other capabilities."
I knew I left out a lot of other details, but he didn't need to know that then.
"Like?" Percy asked, his eyes lighting up with curiosity.
"Well, I can talk to other creatures besides horses and fishes. I can also control fire and plants. I can charm speak, use magic, heal, communicate telepathically and....the rest you'll find out when the time comes, I don't have the patience to explain everything."
Most younger brothers would whine, demanding explanations. Percy wasn't like most younger brothers. He knew that there wasn't any point in pushing for explanations when I didn't want to give them. I was never any good at explanations anyway.
Percy just nodded and suddenly came over and hugged me from behind, burying his face in my back. I froze in surprise, then relaxed and held his hands in mine.
"I missed you." He mumbled into my back.
"I missed you too, knucklehead." I sighed, but Percy wasn't finished.
"I was so scared. When mum... you know, when that happened... I was so lost. I hoped every day that you'd pop up from somewhere, that you were safe and come to comfort me. Why were you hiding? I needed you, but you weren't there."
My heart shattered as I heard muffled sniffing. The poor kid had seen our mother turn to dust, literally, in front of his eyes, and then told that a God was his father and that not only him, but his sister was also the daughter of said God. Of course he needed me, and being the terrible sister that I am, I wasn't there for him. I should never have listened to Chiron.
"I'm so sorry, Percy." I whispered as I turned around to face him. To my surprise, he shook his head and hugged me again.
"Don't be. You're here now. Just...promise me you won't leave me alone again."
"I promise on the river Styx that I'll always be there when you need me. I won't ever leave you, not even if the Gods demand it." I swore.
The sky rumbled. It seemed that Zeus wasn't very happy about my promise, but I didn't care. I lost my mother, I wasn't going to lose my brother too.
I knew that Percy had to go on a quest soon, to find the Master Bolt of the Master Dolt (Don't tell Zeus I said that...or maybe you should, I'd love to see his reaction.). I had every intention of accompanying him, quest member or not.
If you ask me, Zeus is being crazy (Don't tell him I said that either.) blaming a twelve year old kid who never even knew he was a demigod, much less been to Olympus, of stealing his Master Taser. He would have blamed me if he could, only I was with him at the time it was stolen.
I sighed, they called themselves Gods, but they were more like overgrown kindergarteners. The only sane ones seem to be the Maiden Goddesses. I knew that this was only the beginning and before the end, Percy is going to have changed. In a good way, I hope.
