Hello Knucklehead

The last thing Elena expected when she arrived at camp, was to receive news that her brother was currently unconscious in the infirmary and that Chiron wanted to talk to her. A cold feeling of dread came over her as she headed towards the Big House. Chiron was waiting for Elena at the entrance, in his centaur form.

"You wanted to talk to me, Chiron?"Elena asked as she stood in front of him.

"Yes child, come inside. You might want to sit down for this," his eyes were filled with guilt and worry.

She simply nodded and followed him inside and took a seat. Chiron stood in front of her as he went straight to the point.

"I'm very sorry, Elena, but......your mother is dead."

Elena sat there, blinking at him like an idiot. It took a few moments for the words to sink in, and when it did:

"WHAT?!" she shouted, making Chiron flinch at Elena's sudden raise in volume, but she didn't care.

"What the fuck do you mean my mother is dead?!" she demanded.

"Language, El —"

"Don't you dare tell me to mind my language! You promised me, you bloody promised to keep them safe! How could you break that promise?!"

"I did my best, Ella. I did not know that he would send the Minotaur after him."

"I don't give a damn! I made a promise to protect them and so did you when I left for the search. They're all I have Chiron, and now you're telling my that my mum is dead and my brother is unconscious in the infirmary, is this your bloody protection?!" she stormed out of the room, fuming.

She headed straight for the beach and sat down in the sand, staring at the water. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes as she remembered her mother's sweet smile as she welcomed Elena home. She'd always hug her, ask her how the hunt went, if she was alright, and a few thousands of other questions. She had accepted Elena's decision to join the Hunters of Artemis and never complained when she didn't come home for months at a time, and even lied to Percy about it. But now, she was gone. Because Elena couldn't protect her like she had promised.

"She had so much she wanted to accomplish, despite putting up with the garbage she married to protect us. And Percy is so young, father. They don't deserve this. Is this my punishment for evading the prophecy? Why does it have to be him? What has he done wrong? Why won't Zeus listen when I say that Percy isn't the thief?" she finally asked out loud, letting my her tears fall.

'My lady?' A voice called out in her mind.

"Astra, not now," she said.

'Your father is concerned," her wolf protested.

"Well if he's so concerned, why doesn't he come see me himself?!"

'You know why.'

"No, I don't! All I ask for is one sign that he cares about mum, is that too much Astra?!"

'Haven't you noticed the restlessness of the sea? He cares more about you and your family than he can show. You, of all people, should understand that,'Astra spoke reassuringly as she looked at Elena with sympathetic eyes. After all, Elena had taken her in when she was a cub who had just lost her own mother.

Elena remained silent at that, staring out into the sea. Mum and dad used to take her to Montauk all the time, before they had Percy. She smiled at the memories of her father playing with her in the water.

"You are the daughter of the sea, and you are the light that guides the sailors to the shore and safety. That is why we named you Elena. And you, my little star, are the brightest light of all," Poseidon used to tell her. He had always called her his 'little star', a nickname that she was very fond of.

She sighed, knowing that she had to see her brother. She got up and headed back towards camp, Astra beside her.

It seemed that Percy had already woken up, as Annabeth informed her. Elena looked hopeful, but became confused when Annabeth told her that Chiron had asked her not to reveal herself until Percy had been claimed.

"Why?" Elena asked.

"Something about you giving in and telling him who he really is. But does this mean we finally get to know who your father is?" Annabeth asked hopefully.

"Yes." Elena said shortly and proceeded to grumble about how she had managed to keep their identities secret from Percy for twelve years and how it was ridiculous of Chiron to think that. But, she obeyed him and didn't approach Percy, even though it broke her heart to do so. She had been highly amused when she heard of the bathroom incident, however, and told a disgruntled Clarisse that she shouldn't have messed with her baby brother.

"Honestly, Clarisse. It's a wonder you haven't killed him after such a humiliation."

But Clarisse didn't take offense. She rarely ever fought with Elena, and the two were actually best friends, to everybody's surprise. If anybody else had even mentioned her defeat, she would have run them through.

It was on the day of Capture the Flag that she finally talked to her brother. After the red team had been defeated, she had gone with Annabeth to help Percy, using her magic to turn herself invisible, only to find Percy holding his own.

Elena and Annabeth stood, watching as Percy beat the crap out of the Ares kids. But suddenly, Elena felt something pass the protective border that Thalia's tree provided. Someone just summoned a monster into Camp. She didn't even realise that Percy had stepped out of the creek and had collapsed until a howl ripped through the forest, causing campers' cheering to die instantly.

"Percy, run!"Elena shouted as she started running towards him. Annabeth tried to step in front of Percy, but the hellhound just leapt over her and started ripping through Percy's armour.

Elena and Chiron fired arrows at it simultaneously and it fell dead at Percy's feet. Elena rushed to his side and started worrying. She still wore her helmet, so it was no surprise when Percy didn't recognise her.

"Di immortals"Annabeth muttered, as Elena rushed to get Percy back inside the creek.

"Stand in the water Percy. He'll be fine Chiron, watch!"

Everyone watched in awe as all of Percy's cuts and bruises disappeared.

"Look, I-I don't know why" Percy tried to apologise. "I'm sorry..."

Elena shook her head and pointed at something above his head. He looked up just in time to see a green hologram of a trident fading.

"Your father," Annabeth murmured. "This is really not good."

"It is determined," Chiron announced.

Everyone started kneeling, including the Ares cabin, though they did it reluctantly. Elena remained standing, making Percy wonder who the strange girl was and why her voice had sounded familiar when she had called his name.

"My father?" Percy asked, completely bewildered.

"Poseidon. Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God."

Elena finally removed her helmet, making Percy even more bewildered.

"And my baby brother! Bet you lot didn't see that coming," she smirked at her brother, but Percy could see the pain in her eyes and a little bit of....pride? Percy felt more questions arising, but decided on being relieved that his sister was here for the time being.

Elena pulled him into a hug and said:

"Hello, Knucklehead."
