Chapter three
People got out of the way of the mob holding a tiny girl above their heads. Security ran after them, but Gemma was presented before the leader.
"She has power," the group said.
He raised a brow. Gemma looked around, scared. All eyes were on her, anticipating.
She didn't want to disappoint, so she tried extra hard to make her element work. This time the stone wall raised a little higher than before. A smile spread across her face.
The leader picked her up and lifted her in the air.
An orb flew through above the crowd and landed on the leader's hand, bolts of electricity shocking his hands and making Gemma fall.
All eyes moved to Ermir who tried to teleport to the orb, but only made it halfway there and ended up falling on the floor near Gemma. As the two young children groaned the leader made a command.
"I want both of you to stay here at the capitol. Torben, can you please show these two to the side room?"
"Yes sir."
Gemma and Ermir were escorted out of the leader's office and into a side room empty of all people, but them.
Torben the guard was about to leave before Gemma asked, "Why are we here?"
Torben turned around confused, but then a look of realization came over him. "Oh, I guess youngsters like you wouldn't know. All—well, I guess most—of the elemental people have lost their element. For now, only you two seem to have retained it. We don't know how or why, but we want to keep you safe for now."
As the days went on the elemental people added their forces to five lucky people. Gemma and Ermir of course, but also Pele, Amaia, and Bion. The leader waited a few more days until all the elemental people were looked at and came back negative of their powers.
A dejected-looking Deirdre walked back into the side room.
"It seems that it's just the five of you."
Five elementals whose power was quite weak.
"I have bad news and good news," he said sitting down. Torben was standing, guarding the door. The children, teens, and adults stand down waiting.
"I figured out who took all the elementals' powers, which is good, but I don't know where she is. Her name is Saga and she recently escaped from Lunai." A gasp was heard from around. Everyone knew what Lunai was. That's where all the bad people went. "I don't know if this is good or bad, but you guys are the only ones who will be able to defeat her."
Another gasp.
They chatted amongst themselves until Gemma said, "Why can't we just help her?"
The chatter fell to a sea of silence. No one dared to say anything to the young child.
A knock at a door sliced through the water and Torben quickly opened the door.
"Daddy!" Gemma cried. She ran up and jumped into his arms, knocking him off balance, but he quickly caught himself. "Hey, Gemstone."
"This is Mr. Gen. A guard from Lunai. He was on the same ship that unknowingly brought Saga back to Globia. He also was the reason why you guys still have your powers."
"Yes, I stopped her from completing her spell, by hitting her with a boulder. I don't think it hurt her, but it stopped the spell," Gen said.
The leader continued, "Mr. Gen will be teaching two of the five of you how to be better elementals. He will teach Gemma and Bion. Torben will teach Ermir. I will teach Amaia and Pele the best I can do."
"I will inform all of your parents of the news."
