Chapter 9

Fawn didn't even hesitate to cook dinner that night. Within ten minutes, the mouth watering smells of her meal was floating through the Ghost. Hera came into the kitchen first, not very surprised to see Fawn cooking.

"Hey Hera" Fawn said as she stirred the contents in a bowl.

"Not even here for a day and you're already starting dinner" Hera chuckled, leaning against the door frame.

"Yeah, well, I've been making some new recipes lately and they're all quite interesting. Thought you guys might want to try them" Fawn shrugged.

"When will it be done?"

"I'd say about twenty minutes."

"I'll let the others know."

Hera didn't need to say much to the crew for them to know dinner was coming. The smells were wafting through the cooling ducts, finding their ways into the cabins. In all honesty, they were looking forward to the meal. It had been a long time since they'd had any of Fawn's incredible creations.

Almost as soon as Fawn called the crew, they were out in the common room. Hurricane fetched the dragons who also bounded in, (besides Whiplash who walked firmly and in a military way.)
Fawn spooned the contents of her dish into the bowls and made her way out to the others.

"Wow Fawn" Sabine smiled as the Gray Jedi laid out the bowls.

"You've really out done yourself."

"If you think this is good, wait till I make you guys my pasta bake, it's a favourite on Kabera" Fawn smiled.

"Karabast, I've missed your cooking Fawn" Zeb said, eating his bowl of food.

"Glad you like it" Fawn smiled.

Ezra finished before the others. He stood up from the table and put his bowl in the kitchen. Without a word, he left the common room to his cabin.

"Fawn."

The Gray Jedi looked over at Hera who made a motion with her eyes to go after Ezra. With a nod, Fawn followed her brother down the corridor.

Fawn approached Ezra's room and heard the cabin door lock click. She sighed sadly, he must've known she was going to follow him. Resting a hand on the door, Fawn took a breath.

"Ezra, it's me. I...I know things haven't been the greatest between us over the last six months. I haven't contacted you guys in ages and I was selfish. I shouldn't have gone back to Kabera, they would've managed fine without me, I see that now."

There was no answer but Fawn continued, leaning against the door.

"I've heard about your victories and achievements from both the rebellion and Empire. I've never been so proud, you've come so far since the last time I saw you. You've grown up, just like I knew you would, but it's complicated isn't it? While you have grown, you've become...different. Kanan told me about the Sith Holocron, what it did to you."

Fawn slid to the floor, resting her head on the door, as she placed her arms on her knees.

"I'm not angry at you for that, I'm angry at myself. I should've been here. When we were in the Jedi Temple on Lothal, I spoke to my Master, promising him I'd make sure you're connection to the Dark Side was stable. He wanted me to make sure it didn't turn out like mine did, out of control and dangerous. I failed him. And I paid the price for it. Ever since I left the rebellion, I haven't been able to sense my Master's presence. All I can feel is a cold, dark void. He's not with me anymore Ezra, all because of a mistake I made."

Fawn paused, waiting for Ezra to say something but was met with silence. She bowed her head, sighing with closed eyes.

"All I'm trying to say is that I'm here now, I'm here and I'm never leaving again. This is my home, my purpose, this is where my family is. Where you are. And if I left again, I'm even dumber than a binary droid."

Fawn opened her eyes and slowly stood up.

"Good night Ezra."

The door slid open and Fawn had the wind knocked out of her. She felt like she was being crushed by a snake before realising it was Ezra. His arms were around her, gripping Fawn tightly as he gave shallow breathes. Fawn reacted quickly, hugging Ezra to her and pressing a hand to his head. They stood in silence, embracing one another tightly. Ezra had burrowed himself into Fawn as much as he could, trying to stay as close as possible. Six months, six months since the two Bridger Silblings had had any contact from one another. Now they stood, close as anything, attempting to get back what they'd lost before.

"You're trembling" Fawn murmured, trying to get Ezra to look at her but he refused to pull away.

Fawn looked down on her brother in concern, he was shaking in her embrace, so overwhelmed by emotion he was barely able to stand straight. Fawn led him into the cabin and closed the door behind her. They sat down on Zeb's bunk, still clutching one another but not as hard as before.

"Ezra" Fawn said gently.

"What's wrong."

She slipped her fingers underneath his chin and lifted Ezra's face to look at her. Ezra looked like he was about to cry. His eyes were glassy and his shoulders were shaking.

"Fawn, I'm sorry f-for opening the Sith Holocron, I shouldn't have done it, I've just been so angry all the time after M-Malacore."

"Hey hey, it's okay, it's gone and now you're in your right mind" Fawn said, pulling Ezra back into her arms and squeezing his shoulder comfortingly.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry" Ezra kept muttering, eyes shut tight as tears started to leak from his eyes.

Fawn felt her heart strings being pulled and she pressed her head against Ezra's, rubbing his arms. Minutes passed as the two stayed like that, basking in their body heat and comfort, willingly accepting the closeness. Ezra's breathing started to slow to a normal pace as he gave shaky breaths, nestling further into his sister.

"Fawn?" Ezra whispered, voice cracking slightly.

"Yes?"

"I...I have to tell you something.
P-Please don't get angry."

"I could never get angry with you Ezra, at least not for very long" Fawn teased lightly.

"Your Dragon Holocron...I...I never opened it. I just couldn't. It reminded me too much of you, it hurt me looking at it. I know you must be disappointed with me and I don't blame you. You have every right to be..."

"Woah woah woah, Ezra, I'm stopping you right there" Fawn lifted the teen's chin to look into his eyes.

"I'm definitly not disappointed in you, and pain is alright to feel. I understand what you went through, believe me. And besides, even if you did try to open it, you wouldn't be able to get much information out of it."

"W-What are you talking about?"

"That Holocron is marked with my seal, meaning it's mine. One's who use it can't get much out of it because it naturally locks any important data."

Fawn reached behind her and pulled a cube shaped box from her belt. It looked strangely like Kanan's Jedi Holocron with turquoise green glass and a blue crystal in the center. Gold corners were on the edges and patterned the sides of the cube.

"I spent some time on this" Fawn turned the box over in her hands.

"Like I said, I make Dragon Holocrons, this one I made for you especially."

She offered it to Ezra who hesiatatntly took it, looking at it intently.

"Where's my one?"

Ezra closed his eyes for a moment and Fawn's Dragon Holocron floated down from the top bunk. Fawn took it and turned it over to the bottom side.

"See this?" Fawn pointed to a spiral on the box.

It was exactly like the one burned onto a Rider and dragon after they bonded.

"After I made this, I pressed my marked hand on it and it became my own because it had my seal. That Holocron is yet to be sealed and because of that, it's vulnerable to anyone" Fawn explained.

"So I have to put my mark on it?" Ezra asked.

Fawn nodded.

"But you told me that only a Rider and dragon with a close bond could open a Dragon Holocron."

"I did, what's your point?" She asked.

"Whiplash and I have been separated for months, he's different Fawn, too different. Our bond feels nonexistent, almost vaporized. It's there, but at the same time, it's not. How do I fix this?" Ezra asked.

Fawn's face broke into a smile and Ezra looked at her in surprise.

"What? What is it?" He asked.

"It's been a long time since you've asked me for advice, it brings back old memories that's all"  Fawn replied.

Ezra smiled a little, making Fawn's heart rise.

"I cannot heal your bond completely, that task falls to you and Whiplash. However, I can talk to him to spend some time to you."

"That would be amazing Fawn, thank you" Ezra smiled.

That smile, that amazing, true smile, how Fawn had missed it. She pressed her forehead against Ezra's for a moment before grinning and ruffling his hair.

"Ack! Fawn! Come on!" Ezra laughed, attempting to duck away from his sister's hand only to be pulled into her arms and being tickled lightly.

"Fawn!" Ezra squirmed, grinning like a dork.

Fawn smiled and released her brother, allowing him to breathe.

"Get some sleep okay?" She said, kissing his head.

Ezra rolled his eyes and nodded with a smile.

"Yes mam" he teased to which Fawn gave him a small shove.

They stood and Ezra went to climb the ladder as Fawn put her Dragon Holocron in her belt. Ezra hesitated, hand on the middle rung. He turned and hugged Fawn tightly, smiling.

"Thanks for coming back" he said.

Fawn put her own arms around Ezra and gave him a squeeze.

"I'll always come back" she told him.

Ezra pulled away and climbed up to his bunk, flopping onto the bed.

"Good night Ezra" Fawn said, backing out of the room.

"Night Fawn" Ezra yawned.

Fawn stepped out of the cabin and closed the door. She pressed a hand against the metal and smiled a little.

'Just like old times' she thought.

With a small nod, Fawn walked towards her room where Hurricane was waiting. Her heart feeling lighter than it had been in months.
