Chapter 22
"Ah Fawn, there you are."
Fawn looked up from scrubbing Hurricane's saddle to see Rex approaching her.
"Hey Captain" Fawn grinned, "what cha up to this fine afternoon?"
Rex lifted a brow but smirked in response. "Not much, just wondering if I could borrow a dragon for a moment? A ship busted some of the sensors around the base during a crash landing earlier on and the Krykna spiders are getting close."
"I see, well, I'll take you to the Dragon Huts, I think Leo and Torch might be the best for this job."
"Leo and Torch...?"
"I'll tell you about them on the way" Fawn carefully put aside her work and Rex followed her to the Dragon Huts.
"Leo's whole name is Leon but we call him Leo for short. He's a Shifter Dragon, able to take on the form of any other creature he wants. It's kind of annoying when he wants to pull pranks, but he's an incredibly talented and useful dragon for undercover missions."
"I'm gonna take it that he's friends with Whiplash?"
"Yup, those two were havoc growing up. You'd never know when they'd be pulling pranks on you so one needed to be careful."
"I see, but why do you think he'll be useful to this?"
"Cause, he can take on the form of a Krykna spider to keep any others at bay."
"That.....does actually seem like a good idea. And what about Torch?"
"Torch is...well....he's what his name implies. He's one of the best fire dragons we have, his species is a Firehorn."
"Oh, like Colour Fly?"
"Yeah, same as her. He's got a little bit of a temper if you piss him off but he's a fierce protector and he'll take care of any spiders that get too close."
The Dragon Huts were pretty much what they sounded like. They were tall and waterproof homes for the dragon inhabitants.
Fawn had decided to construct them after realizing that having the dragons in her room may not be the best idea. She'd learned from having some in her cabin last time. It was rather problematic but it was the only solution due to not being able to have a base.
Now, however, on Chopper Base, the dragons had huts to comfortably stay in. Made from the tall flowers on Attalon, they were resistant to all weather which was very convenient.
As Fawn and Rex neared the huts, a roar abruptly cut their conversation off. Sharing an alarmed glance, they bolted towards the source. Turning a sharp corner around a hut, they skidded to a stop. Rex stared at what he saw. Multiple dragons stood at the side lines, roaring and cheering loudly. In the center were two dragons locked head to head, growling deeply as they tried to push the other down.
"Fawn?!" Rex asked, half panicked. "We need to do something before this gets out of control-"
"Unbelievable, they are utterly unbelievable."
Rex's worry came to a screeching halt at Fawn's aloof response to the situation. He looked over at Fawn to see her with arms crossed, eyes half-lidded as she watched the two reptiles attack each other like rhinos.
"I swear, I'm about to introduce you to two dragons I'm proud to call some of my finest and they decide to ruin the moment with a fight to arrogantly show their strength. I can't believe them."
"Wait....are you saying that's Leo and Torch?"
"Unfortunately yes, plug your ears unless you wanna be deaf. LEON! TORCH! GET YOUR BUTTS OVER HERE RIGHT NOW! YOU'RE BEING COMPLETELY IMMATURE!"
The two dragons leapt a foot away from each other, eyes wide as dinner plates. Once spotting Fawn, they instantly shrank into themselves, worriedly glancing at each other. The dragons encouraging the battle quickly slipped away behind the huts to avoid the pissed dragon rider.
"I'm waiting you hooligans" Fawn placed her hands on her hips, glaring scarily enough to make Rex nervous.
The both of them were fast to approach Fawn. They were a lot bigger up close, Rex noticed.
"Well? What was all that, hmm? I'd understand it if you two were younger and fighting to sharpen your skills ready for future training, but really you two, both of you are almost in your thirties. I expected better from you then play-fighting like hatchlings" Fawn's voice was firm, and Rex was surprised to see two large, fire breathing monsters lower their heads in shame to Fawn.
"Sorry Fawn" the one on the left mumbled.
"We were just messing around" the other added.
Fawn sighed, closing her eyes for a few brief seconds before looking up at the dragons again. "I'll let you off the hook, but if I catch you doing this again, there will be consequences.
"Yes mam" the two responded simultaneously.
"I have someone for you two to meet."
Both dragons looked at Rex who suddenly felt rather intimidated by them. Hurricane, Whiplash, Colour Fly and all of the other Ghost Crew dragons he was comfortable around. While he knew the other dragons wouldn't hurt him, it didn't stop the slight nerves inside him.
"Boys, this is Captain Rex, he's a clone solider. Rex, this is Leo and Torch."
Torch was slim in build and towered over Rex and Fawn. His horns were shorter than Colour Fly's and curled around at the ends. A small coiled horn in between his thin nostrils. He had a firey orange complexion with jagged red markings across his body. His tail was long and thick enough to easily snap a humans bones in half with little to no effort at all. Fins lined the ends of his tail while spikes of literal live fire went up his back and neck.
Leo was a muscular, broad dragon with deep golden scales and dark amber eyes. He was shorter than Torch by a few good centimetres. He had tall frills around his head almost like a spiked mane. His tail had fins near the beginning of it and was studded with sharp spikes at the end. His talons were about as wide as Rex's arm, and could definitely do some damage.
I'm gonna die Rex thought. "Pleasure to meet you both."
"Same here, Captain" Torch replied with a surprisingly gentle voice.
"Please, call me Rex."
"Clone, huh?" Leo mused, his voice deep and rumbly. "Never met one before."
"And I haven't met a shape-shifting dragon" Rex replied.
Leo's lips quirked so Rex took that as a point in his favour.
"Rex needs your help with a small errand at the edge of the base, I trust you two can fight off any spiders that come his way?" Fawn asked.
"Sure thing" Torch nodded, and Leo grunted in affirmation.
"Good, com me if you need anything, I'll be cleaning up the rest of the dragon gear."
With a lazy, two fingered salute, Fawn departed. Once she'd disappeared, Leo and Torch's shoulders instantly drooped as they exhaled slowly.
"Jesus, thought she was gonna kill us dude" Torch glanced down at Leo who nodded in agreement.
"It's gonna happen one day. That's the third time she's caught us fighting."
"You two are scared of her?" Rex asked making the two dragon start slightly at the sudden voice.
"Yeah, she's absolutely terrifying when she wants to be" Leo shuddered. "Never get on her bad side Rexy, it'll never end well."
Rex couldn't help but smile at the ridiculousness of the situation.
"What?" Leo asked suspiciously at Rex's grin.
"Nothing, it's just...well you two are dragons, you could probably end my life in a second. Yet you're terrified of a girl who's not only younger, but unlikely to win against you in a fight."
"Don't underestimate her Rex" Torch advised. "She may be smaller, but she's stronger than both of us put together."
Rex noticed the respect in Torch's voice and was not only surprised but also gained a new sense of pride for Fawn. She obviously hadn't hesitated in performing what she was capable of.
"I'm happy to see you two are loyal to her."
"Why wouldn't we be?" Torch cocked his head to the side.
Fair point.
"Come on, we've got a job to do."

"Maul really messed everything up then, huh?"
"Yeah, and the worst part was how much the entire experience messed up Ezra."
"Kanan, I'm more worried about you, I mean...He took away your eyesight."
"He was able to pull through though, he's stronger than he seems."
"Thanks Hera."
Kanan, Hera, Moonshine and Kyber were sitting outside the Ghost, mugs of tea resting beside them.
"Seriously though" Kyber hummed, "that Dathomirian really went beyond reason to make the kid his apprentice."
"Maul went beyond reason a long time ago" Moonshine said quietly, staring into the clear, steaming liquid in her talons. "It isn't much of a shock to find out he manipulated you guys, he has a knack for doing that."
"So we found out" replied Kanan, sipping his tea.
"How do you think the boys are doing?" Hera asked, trying to change the topic of their talk.
"Knowing those two, they've either blown something up or destroyed half the jungle" Kyber chuffed but looked down at the stale look his wife sent him.
"I just hope they've made up" Hera sighed, tracing the rim of her mug with a gloved thumb. "They can't just keep hating each other, they used to treat each other like brothers."
"You can't just rush these things Hera" Moonshine purred softly. "It takes a lot of talking and emotional outbursts for conflicts like this to be fixed."
Hera sighed, rubbing the dragon's snout. "I know, it's just hard to see them so angry with each other."
Moonshine purred again in agreement.
"I just hope those lunatics haven't erupted any mushrooms," Kyber rumbled. "I swear if they come back half dead I'm grounding the both of them."
"Nuh uh" Kanan shook his head. "You can ground Whiplash, he's your kid, I'm grounding Ezra."
"Awww are you calling Ezra your kid? That's cute" Kyber chuckled.
"W-What? No! I'm grounding him because he's my Padawan!"
"Oh of course, of course, don't worry Kanan I believe you-" Kyber smiled earnestly before coughing "Not."
Kanan sighed into his hands while Moonshine and Hera hid their smiles.
"Wait wait wait, if you're calling Ezra your kid, does that make Hera his mom?" Kyber suddenly looked up at Hera with a grin.
Hera tensed, a slight blush overtaking her face. "Uh- I...I"
Kyber and Moonshine laughed at their riders embarrassment.
"Oh boy this is too pure" Kyber cackled.
"We should've left you two on Kabera" Kanan groaned.
"Suck it up, Jarrus" Kyber nudged Kanan with his shoulder, a toothy grin on his lips. "You ain't getting rid of us anytime soon."

"And that-" Zeb dumped a heavy crate on the ground, "-is the last one. Finally."
Bludgeon dropped his load beside Zeb's sighing in relief as the weight was discarded.
The two of them had been unloading a new cargo ship for the past two and a half hours and even with their combined strength and all the crew helping, it still took a long time.
"Sometimes it sucks being the 'muscle' of the team" Bludgeon rolled his aching shoulders.
"You can say that again" Zeb responded, cricking his back to relieve some of the pain.
"So what now?" Asked Bludgeon, stretching his broad wings out.
"Cause I feel like doing nothing."
"Right back at you there" Zeb nodded. "There's a good, shaded spot I found. It's also private so we won't be disturbed."
"Waffles, radio, water, let's go" Bludgeon ordered.
Zeb grinned and the two headed towards the Ghost to grab their supplies. They walked for about a minute in silence before Bludgeon broke it.
"Have you seen Hurricane anywhere? I've tried to locate him but he's no where to be found."
"Last time I saw him was this morning before Whiplash and the kid departed. He disappeared after that, but knowing him, he's probably gone out flying."
Bludgeon pursed his lips together, a deep hum emitting from the back of his throat. It was quiet for a few moments before the Rock Tail dragon murmured softly; "I'm kinda worried about him."
That made Zeb pause. "What? Why?"
"Oh, uh, it's nothing" Bludgeon responded louder, shaking his head. "Sorry, just mumbling. I'm sure he's fine."
Zeb glanced at the dragon suspiciously. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to worry you, it's just..." Bludgeon sighed heavily. "I'll tell you at the private spot, this kinda information shouldn't be said in public."
That made Zeb's worry increase.
After saying a quick hello to the 'Parents of rebellious children' outside the Ghost, the two grabbed their things and headed to the hill.
"Soooo" Zeb placed the plate of waffles on a crate. "What's up with Hurricane?"
Bludgeon sighed, his tail smacking the ground, creating a mini earthquake. A rock formation rose from the sand, shaped and sized perfectly to fit the Rock Tail dragon. Bludgeon stepped onto his makeshift seat, lying down.
"It's just a hunch, but I have a feeling he's getting anxious for a mate."
Zeb choked on his drink.
"The only reason why I say that is because of the way he looks at Whiplash and Colour Fly. It's almost like yearning or pining. Like he wants a relationship similar to what those two have. But it's just an assumption, I could be way off-"
"You seriously think Hurricane is looking for a girlfriend?" Zeb spluttered after gathering his bearings.
"Hunch Zeb, a hunch" Bludgeon corrected him.
"Yeah yeah yeah sure whatever but if that's true, but why?"
"Well, dragons are romantic creatures, when we mate, we mate for life. Finding a mate of the same species is difficult, which is why Fawn established cross-breeding into Kabera. It took weeks of documents and talks with Raxia before she agreed."
"Why'd it take that long?"
"Because it would've thrown Kabera into unknown territory as we wouldn't have known what to expect from the eggs. Dragons always bred with their own specie so hatching and breeding would be easy and orderly. However, once mixed breeding was introduced, new species were brought into existence."
"Why're you telling me this?"
"Cause Hurricane is a dragon of order. He prefers following Kabera's old system then leaping into the darkness of foreign experiences. However, there aren't any female Shadow Wings left. If-so-fact-so, he won't be able to breed with anyone. That's why I'm worried."
"Cause he won't mate any other dragon?"
"Yeah, pretty much."
"Karabast, that dragon's got a one track mind if I've ever seen one."
"Tell me about it."
The two fell into silence, chewing their waffles in thought.
"Has he ever considered cross-breeding?" Zeb asked.
"No idea, but like I said before, he follows order."
"What if you suggested it to him?"
"Zeb, I could be dead wrong about this remember? It's a hunch. He might just be worried about Whiplash and Ezra on the mission."
"Well I wouldn't blame him for being worried, afterall, the kid and that lightning rod haven't worked together in months. Plus, they've gotten stronger so it wouldn't surprise me if they blew up the whole bloody planet."
Bludgeon spat out his waffle, laughing. "Oh my god" he coughed. "Kyber would murder Whiplash if they did that."
Zeb chuckled. "Yeah, probably. Moonshine included, those two are such a terrifying power couple."
Bludgeon snickered, a grin on his face. "Which reminds me, you know a bloke who looks like they're pining to be a 'power couple' with someone?" He began with a sly smile.
"Wedge." This set them both off, the duo laughing for a ridiculous amount of time.
"Oh the poor kid" Bludgeon chortled, wiping a tear from his eye. "He has no idea what he's getting himself into."
"Highly likely Fawn's gonna turn him down" Zeb shook his head. "Almost feel bad for him."
"Almost" Bludgeon repeated with a wide grin.
"Think we should tell him to give up on his crush?"
"Nah, it'll be more amusing to watch how this all folds out."
"Agreed my dear friend, agreed."

Torch roared, golden flames rolling from his jaws at the nearing Krykna spiders. The giant creatures reared in alarm backing away.
"Wonder how these things would taste cooked" Leo commented, snapping his pinchers at the ones nearby.
"No" Rex said firmly. "Just no."
He would be lying if he said he wasn't at least a little disturbed by Leo's form. The golden dragon had transformed into a Krykna spider as promised but his eyes were deep amber and his mouth was full of small, sharp teeth.
Not charming in the least.
"Come on Rexy" Leo looked over with a terrifying grin. "You have to admit that spider meat would be interesting to try."
Rex rolled his eyes. These two had labeled him as 'Rexy', and the name was apparently staying. "I'm standing by what I said before, no."
"Suit yourself."
Leo leapt up into the air, a bright yellow flash erupting. Four sets of talons hit the ground, dust flying as Leo transformed. A perfect replica of Hurricane stood in the spider's place. Instead of ocean green eyes like the original had, Leo's version of the Shadow Wing had amber iris's. A blast of blue fire erupted from the clone's jaws, raging towards the spiders. Leo released his fireball, smoke wafting from his nostrils.
"Forgot how much power Hurricane had" Leo remarked observing the scorch marks on the sand.
"Yeah, overkill much?" Rex asked.
"Nah I only killed three spiders that's not overkill."
"You know that not what I meant..."
"Nicely done Leo" Torch grinned. "Think the other dragons would wanna sample some of the meat?"
"Most likely" Leo transformed back into his usual self, rolling his shoulders to release some of the muscles tension. "But what else is new?"
"Fair enough."
Rex finished setting the monitor, glancing over at the two dragons.
"Can I ask something?"
The two blokes looked over.
"Are you two brothers or something? You seem pretty close."
Torch and Leo looked at each other and smiled a little.
"Everyone seems to assume that" Leo chuckled.
"Well can't really blame them for assuming" Torch shrugged then looked back at Rex. "We're not brothers, we're boyfriends Rex."
"Ah got it......hang on boyfriends did you say?"
Torch shyly flushed a little. "You heard me."
"Sorry I just didn't expect that."
"Not many do" Leo responded, nuzzling Torch who brushed his shout over Leo's head in return.
Rex smiled at the gesture. "How long?"
"Six years" Leo claimed proudly.
Rex whistled. "Nice."
"Thanks, the poor thing was a stuttering mess when he asked me out" Leo booped Torch's nose making him flush a little.
"Shut up Leon" Torch mumbled, looking away. "I was ninteen."
Leo chuckled. "Yep, a socially awkward and adorable nineteen-year-old."
Torch buried his face into his wing, groaning in embarrassment. "Shut up."
Rex couldn't help but snicker at the scene in front of him. Despite being taller and possibly stronger than Leo, Torch was obviously the quiet, sensitive type.
"Anyways Rexy" Leo turned his attention back to the clone. "Anything else you need a hand with?"
"Don't think so, thanks for the help you two."
"Anytime" Leo grinned toothily.
Torch removed his head from his wing, his blush gone. "Anytime you need us, give us a call, okay?"
"Will do" Rex smiled.

"Ughhhhhhhhhhh I'm bored!" Colour Fly groaned. "Sabiiiiiine can't we go flying or something?"
"Can't you go flying by yourself?" Sabine asked.
"Yeah but it's lonely. I prefer flying with you."
"First off, that's sweet. But secondly, I need to train."
"You've been training for two hours!"
"One and a half actually."
"Time isn't real" Colour Fly flopped onto her back, staring up at the sky. "Chasing Kyrkna spiders would be way more fun than this."
"I'd rather not get eaten by a giant spider, thank you."
"I wouldn't let them touch you."
"Still not doing it."
"Yo! Colour Fly!"
The Fire Horn rolled onto her front, looking round in surprise. "Leo? Torch?"
"What's up? Haven't seen you lately" Leo grinned, padding over, Torch beside him.
"Yeah same to- why do you have dead spiders with you?"
"Gonna be grilling them up with the lads" Leo replied. "Dinner is sorted tonight."
Sabine shared a glance with Colour Fly who smiled sheepishly. "Boys are weird' was all the Fire Horn could offer.
"Hello, who's this?" Leo noticed the Mandalorian.
"Oh right, boys, this is Sabine Wren, Sabine, this is Torch and Leon."
"Sup" Sabine gave a two fingered salute.
"Oh, so you're Colour Fly's rider? I've been wanting to meet you" Torch held out a wing talon that Sabine promptly shook.
"No need to be so formal" Leo rolled his eyes, curling his claws and fist bumped with the girl.
"Leon right?" Sabine asked.
"Call me Leo, everyone else does" the Shifter dragon replied with a smile.
"So where have you two been?" Colour Fly inquired.
"Helping Captian Rex with an errand" Torch informed her. "He had to set up some sensors so we stopped any spiders that were getting too close."
"And that's how you ended up with the spider bodies?"
"Pretty much, yeah."
"Hey, isn't that Hurricane over there?" Leo pointed.
Indeed the Shadow Wing was walking quietly a few feet away, eyes on the ground and horns low.
"Hey Hurricane!" Leo called. "Hurricane? Hurricane! Oi! Over here you dolt!"
The Shadow Wing's horns shot up in alarm, his gaze snapping over to the small group.
"Jeez dude, you got wax in your ears or something?" Leo grinned teasingly.
"Uh...no sorry, been daydreaming lately."
"All good man, wanna try some spider meat? Torch and I are gonna be cooking it with some of the other blokes."
"Maybe later, but thanks for the offer."
He walked away, horns lowering to his head again.
Sabine couldn't help but notice the slight drag of Hurricane's paws. "Is he okay?"
"I'm not sure" Torch caught the dragon's slack movements as well.
"Weird, I know Hurricane well and he's never passed up an opportunity for food" Colour Fly commented. "Something's up with him."
"I'll ask Fawn or Whiplash to talk to him, they've probably got the best chance of getting through to him" Sabine told them.
"You think he's worried about Whiplash?" Colour Fly suggested.
"Who isn't?" Leo scoffed. "I've been friends with Whiplash since I was twelve, he's really changed over the past few months. Plus, I overheard Fawn and Kyber talking about his and Ezra's bonding sickness."
"I hope they're alright" Torch bit his lip.
"Oh cheer up, T" Leo nudged Torch's cheek. "I'm sure they're fine, as long as they've got each others backs nothing bad will happen."
First off, yay! Two dragons of the LBGT+ community! In case you were curious, Torch is Bi and Leo is gay. I've wanted to design characters who are
LBGT+ for a while now.
I support the community fully as everyone should be respected for who they love.
Secondly, I've noticed I haven't published many parts that focus on the other rebels and their dragons. If-so-fact-so, I had to write up a part for them! I am quite proud of how it turned out.
Stay tuned y'all!
