Stephanie looks from the tree towards the incoming storm. Using the binoculars she keeps tabs on the cell that is being created. She smiles as the funnel is formed. She had done her homework, there is little that will be harmed along the path of the storm. Unfortunately there are some fields and a few homes that might be damaged from the storm, but there is nothing she can do about that. Compared to what the supers have suffered while in the tender care of the government, they are getting off light.
"The funnel is formed and about to touch down," Stephanie calls down to her consorts.
Talon nods, although he knows that Stephanie won't see it since she is focusing on the storm. Now more than ever she needs to focus on it, but he sees no sign of strain or stress on her doing so.
Talon waits anxiously for the lightening to start up. The strikes will be wild. Stephanie can only guarantee that they won't strike where they are waiting. That's why all five of them, are waiting for Stephanie to give the word.
Talon had already created the tunnels that their forces are waiting in. Many of them not comfortable being in the confined underground space. They liked their odds against the lightening and tornado even less when given the choice.
Soon thunder cracks over head and lightning splits the sky. Hail flings itself down and they are glad that the trees provide some protection. Ethan and Jet do their best to protect them as well. Stephanie never removes her attention from the tornado, even as she has the lightening start striking closer and closer to the facility.
Jet maintains his watch on the facility and helps the best he can direct the lightening so Stephanie can focus on the tornado. He smiles victoriously when multiple strikes hit not just the fence, but the facility itself. Immediately lights go out, but not long after lights go back on, Jet cursed fluidly at this.
Stephanie calms him by talking through his mental link. "It has always been a possibility. I had planned for it."
The lightening hadn't left and so Jet continues to direct it and is once more smug as the plasma hit the fence and this time a couple of the watch towers.
There is frantic calling and a great deal of distress heard above the sound of the incoming storm.
They can only hope that they guards are running for safety as they finally notice the tornado heading their way.
The sound of the cyclone is heard even above that of the thunder. By now even those on the ground are able to see the massive twister. They stare in awe as the base twists itself closer to the facility.
Jet and Ethan work together to place a shield of dead air between the cyclone and the small group.
Stephanie urges the tornado to hit the wall and it does and goes further, all the way to the facility tearing way with ease the concrete and cinder block wall.
Stephanie swears under her breath, she doesn't want the cyclone to go into the building, it will kill too many people. She urges it to go outside once more and guides it away from the facility and watches it as it goes far enough away. She sighs in relief as she can finally let the storm go.
Her consorts look at her in awe even as Talon opens the underground passages and their people come swarming out.
"I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, Stephanie. That was incredible." Talon tells her as she works herself down.
Jet watches her closely. He notices the signs of sweat on her brow. "You are too fatigued to go in and help the prisoners. You need to stay here."
"Jet, I love you, I do, but you don't get to tell me to stay here now that the hard part is over. I'm going in." Stephanie says mutinously and her eyes are flashing dangerously.
"Stephanie, he's just worried about you taxing yourself too much." Talon tries to moderate things between the two.
"I realize that Talon, but he doesn't get to tell me to stay behind at this point. Just like I couldn't tell you to leave when you said that you needed to stay behind to destroy the hell lab."
Talon sighs, there was no arguing with her, and really she does have a point. They can't take away her right to enter after she did all the hard work.
"Besides, I still need to knock them all out. The other air elementalists, including you two, aren't delicate enough to not kill them." Stephanie glares at Jet and then for a short bit at Ethan who holds his hands up in surrender not wishing to start an argument with Stephanie.
Jet motions to the air then lets out a scream that no one can hear.
"I don't want them to get a lucky shot at you and harm you, Stephanie." Jet finally manages to send through the link.
Stephanie softens her angry glare at Jet and goes to him. Holding him in her arms she just lets her love flow through him. "Nothing is going to happen to me, Jet. Now, don't you think it might be a good idea to go join the party?"
The others move forward with her and they get there just in time for Stephanie to make the weapons stop working. There were a few supers wounded, but the wind from the storm had made the shots go wide of their marks for the most part. Not that there were a lot of soldiers still in their stations.
Stephanie makes sure that those that aren't her people fall down unconscious. The vampires go to work giving them their new memories even as they collect them and take them down to the cells.
Stephanie finds a working computer. She is really impressed that they still had electricity and things hadn't fried with as much electricity had been poured into the building from the lightening. She finds the information that she wants and sends it to her cloud account before erasing and destroying all notes and information about the supers. She had also found a back up location and sent malware to destroy all information there as well.
Meanwhile her group goes through and releases and cleanses the supers, some that have been there for more than a decade.
Steven stops suddenly as he comes in front of a door. His breathing stops for a moment as he stares incredulously at the occupants of the room.
"Mom?" He states looking at the woman that has her back turned to him. She turns around and he's horrified at the state that she is in. She looks decades older than she should. Steven has a hard time holding back his emotions.
He turns to the other female in the room. "Well, I guess we are even now."
"Steven?" The female asks incredulously.
"Yes, I would greet you formally but you've never gave me your name."
The female shakes her head. "I guess you deserve that much at least. My name is Emily."
"Well, Emily, would you help my mother? I have people here that can cleanse you both from the chemicals they've pumped into you."
"That's not possible. You must not take us back to the community, they've got some sort of tracking compound inside of us, just in case one of us manages to escape this hell." Emily tells him with tears in her eyes. She longs to go home and see her, their, daughter once more.
"I am aware, but there is a way to cleanse you. Now please bring my mother and let's get you to where you can be cleansed, there is someone that would like to see you. She's missed you a great deal." Steven isn't sure if he should be angry with Emily or not.
"You've met her," Emily stops as they are even with Steven.
"Rikki? Yeah, I've met her. There is a great deal that needs to be talked about, but now isn't the time to do so. I just need you to answer one question, did you hate me that much that you couldn't let me be a part of her life?"
"No, I've never hated you. I've hated myself for what I did to you and couldn't face you. That and your pit bull of a father. I couldn't get to you, but honestly it was a cop out. I was and am ashamed for what I did. I used you in the worst way. I basically raped you. How could you ever forgive me for that? I couldn't face you, I was and am a coward, I know."
"Now isn't the time to talk about this. Please guide my mother?" Steven keeps the pain and hurt from his voice as he leads the way to where Stephanie and the others are cleansing the prisoners.
They are pleased to find some of the wolves and vampires and even more of the scarce spell and potions witches. All told there are more than two hundred prisoners.
Stephanie is even more pleased to find no children or record of any being born. None of the prisoners have told her about sexual abuse being part of their treatment there. Finding that out makes it easier for her to not destroy the facility or the people that were running it. But it doesn't make her change her mind about fighting back against even the government if they continue going against the supers.
It is nearly morning once more when they finish up with everything they need to do before they can leave. Groups of the newly liberated have been taken out and taken to the camp to rest and determine where they will be going next.
"At least there are no fey," Stephanie says wiping the sweat from her brow.
"There used to be. Then too many were captured and killed so they were called back to under hill and the passages sealed. Honestly, we are far better off without the fey meddling in our lives." Talon replies to her remark.
Stephanie sits up and looks at him with one eyebrow raised in inquiry, "You've met the fey?"
Tracey is passing by and hears Stephanie make this question, "I have even if Talon hasn't." Tracey shudders, "Nasty people they are. Even worse than vampires if you can believe it."
Those in hearing distance look at Tracey more than a little astounded at his words.
"He's right, they are nasty. The things they would do to humans isn't nice. Even their so called boons and help would come back and bite the humans in the ass. No one wanted anything to do with them willingly.
"What they do when they find their chosen is down right barbaric." Talon tells Stephanie with more than a little sick cast to his face.
Tracey looks at Talon with a great deal of interest, "You've been to a binding ceremony of the fey?"
"Yeah, I had gained the favor of the fey queen and that was her gift to me." Talon looks to Stephanie and stops her before she asks, "You don't want to know, you really don't. I wish to hell that I didn't."
Stephanie swallows the words that she was going to ask. She won't ask if it bothers Talon that much. Not much makes Talon green in the face.
She looks over to Tracey and he shakes his head. So she sighs and goes to Talon and gives him a hug.
Tracey goes to her and offers his freshly bitten wrist.
Stephanie wrinkles her nose in dislike but needs the help the blood will give her and so takes his wrist and drinks a couple of mouth fulls of blood. This time the blood almost tastes good.
After working for several hours the last of the freed prisoners leave their prison home and follow their saviors to the underground tunnels.
Talon and the others follow them and the tunnels close up behind them, leaving no trace behind of the former prisoners nor of their rescuers. The guards and scientist wake up groggy and disoriented. The memory of the previous night changed. They remember the tornado and the incredible storm. They remember coming inside and there being a malfunction of some sort. The test subjects were released and gas was sent to the chambers where they were located.
More than a few of the guards were smiling at this information. They hadn't been happy to find out that they were posted to a location where people were being subjected to involuntary experiments by their very own government. They wish the newly freed subjects the best and even though they are sent out to hunt them down once more they don't search all that hard.
They are rather thankful, actually. They were in the hands of the enemy, as it were, and the enemy was merciful. They could easily have been killed and they weren't. Many went home that day and gave thanks to God even though many hadn't believed in him before.
