||Chapter 4 - I can't be, right?||
Lyra's POV
"If she really is the Avatar, like you say Monk Alba, then should she be able to bend?" Aela asked him after a moment of silence passed us. Monk Alba thought for a moment, becoming concerned and confused as well
"See, this is exactly why she can't the Avatar! She is a Non-Bender, which is pretty normal nowadays!" Wane yelled, lightly shaking me back and forth in emphasize, "Calm yourself, Wane. Let her decide on this matter." Monk Zealot calmly told him, returning his attention towards me
"Well, Lyra?" He asked me and I shrugged, not able to answer the question. I can't be the Avatar, it is impossible to even think of the possibility
"I don't know. I have never been able to bend any of the elements, neither water or earth." I informed, "There hasn't even been an Avatar from our knowledge of not being able to bend any of the elements at first."
"That is true. But, there is always a possibility of you being the first Lyra." Monk Alba stated when another monk, Monk Queon walked into the room with arms folded and stoic in stature
"We have merely sent the Messenger Hawk 10 minutes ago and already gained an response from Republic City, eyes glowed in the statues there as well, even the rebuilt Avatar Aang Statue's glowed in unison." Monk Queon explained briefly, looking over at me
"It is suggested that Miss Arch heads home and begin to train with her mother, after all, she is indeed an Earth Bending Master."
"B-But-"
"What is the problem?" Monk Queon asked me coldly, narrowing his state. I cleared my throat, shaking off my nerves
"Initially after my cleansing, I was supposed to head to the Fire Nation to visit a friend of mine."
"Who?" Wane asked me, curious to who this person was. "Hotaru why of course." He groaned, throwing his head back, "Seriously, her?!" He asked me and I nodded in confirmation, smirking
"Why? Don't you like her?"
"She set my clothes on fire."
"So?"
"Lemur."
"And?"
"MY HAIR LYRA!" He stated loudly making me laugh at his discomfort for our little firefly, Hotaru
"But, did you die?"
"MENTALLY!"
"Quiet now, Wane." Monk Zealot scolded him in amusement. He huffed, puffing his lower lip outwards is dismay
"Now, why do you need to visit this girl, Hotaru?" He asked me
"For no reason in particular, it was just for an annual visit or else she would send me messages to no end until I visit her." I informed them and he nodded
"Very well. We might as well send a message to the Fire Sages there as well."
"Indeed." Monk Queon agreed. He left the room to send the message, leaving us alone in the room once more
"Aela, Monk Alba, let's leave these two alone for a little while. It seems there will be more explaining to do later." The two nodded before gradually leaving the room, me and Wane being the only ones left in the room. I rubbed my arm nervously, how can this be? I can't be, right?
"You doing alright?" Wane asked me, glancing at me with his dark blue eyes
"As I can be currently... This whole thing is crazy."
"Tell me about it. Hearing about you not waking up is what scared me, but now, you being the Avatar, is somehow terrifying to think." Wane ran a hand through his hair in slight frustration
"It just doesn't make any sense... Well it sort of does in a way if you're crazy."
"Like Late King Bumi of Omashu?" I glared at him
"He has been dead for centuries now, how do you know if he was crazy or not?"
"His name literally says 'Bumi' or as in 'Boom' or 'Bonkers'." He used air quotes which I rolled my eyes to, snorting
"Anyways, if I'm the Avatar. Why have I yet to even bend any sort of element? Or, why now? I'm not even 16 yet!" I threw my hands up in the air in exaggeration
"I can't say, Lyra. We will just have to wait and see."
"But, I can't wait. If I'm really the Avatar, then, shouldn't I ya know, bend rock?!"
"Try it."
"What?"
"I said try it. You are probably a late bloomer." Wane got up from the bed and walked out onto the balcony, jumping onto the railing and reaching up for something. I watched him intently, wondering what he meant by 'try it'. He pulled his hand back down, revealing a rock the size of my hand, jumping down from the railing and back onto the balcony. He walked over to me, setting the rock down at the foot of the bed
"Try it, see if anything happens."
I sent him a look, biting my lower lip nervously. Try it? Try moving the rock? I muttered incoherently under my breath at him causing him to grin in amusement. Karma. This has to be karma. The universe hates me, I knew it! I sighed, raised both my hands towards the rock, not knowing how to go about this. Okay, what does Mom look like when she bends earth? She is usually in a weird stance when she does it, but when she is sitting down she simply moves her hand and bends a pebble to hit the back of my dad's head when he is about to do something stupid.
Should I just do the same. I tried doing it, flicking my wrist to the left only it didn't move, didn't budge like a solid rock. I chuckled lightly, puns
"Okay, that was pitiful. You aren't a air bender Lyra- Or are you?" I glared up at him, "This isn't as easy as you think, Wane!" He smirked in response, flicking my forehead to annoy me
"How about, trying to be more of a rock?"
"What the heck is that supposed to mean?!" I asked him, blowing a loose strand of brown hair out of my face
"As in, be a bit more stiff? Like a rock." He told me, resting his left hand on my right shoulder, leaning down to whisper in my ear, "You can do this, if not. Then I will kick you in both of your shins."
"Well, that's encouraging to hear."
"Just do it, Lyra!" I huffed, glaring at him before returning my attention back to the rock. Be more stiff he says? I thrusted my hand forward, hoping to make it move somewhat
"Hey it moved!"
"No it didn't." I deadpanned, throwing my head back. How can I be the Avatar when I can't even bend at all?
