The Big Three

"Fight me!" Togata said enthusiastically. "What do think Eraserhead? It seems rational for them to feel the full weight of our experiences first hand."

Shota thought for a moment, as if weighing the options. "Do as you like," he said finally.

We changed into our gym clothes and headed to gym gamma. "Is this for real?" Sero asked as Togata began to stretch.

"It is!" Togata replied.

"Don't do this, Mirio," Amajiki said, his face against the wall. "It would be enough to just follow the manual. Say we experienced this and that and it was super meaningful. It's not like all of them are raring to go, and ready to aim for the top. We don't wanna break anything beyond repair."

"There was once this kid who got discouraged and stopped trying to be a hero and caused all sorts of trouble," Hado added. "It was really bad. Think hard about this or there is going to be pain."

"Hey, we've all fought against pros before, although with handicaps," Tokoyami said.

"Plus we all have experience fighting villains," Kirishima joined in. "Do you really think we are such wimps you have to worry for our safety?"

Togata smirked, "whenever you're ready come on, who's first?"

"I'll go," I stepped up just as Kirishima said he wanted to be first.

"Shichi, let me," Midoriya stood next to me.

"Kanna Shichi and the problem child," Togata said. "Heh, you both have spirit."

"Okay, Midoriya," I nodded. I understood that he was trying to prove himself after being on lock down. I jumped back to the other long range fighters.

"Alright close combat squad," Ojiro said, "we will hit him all at once!"

"Give us your best shot!" Kirishima said, determined.

As they were getting ready to attack, Togata's clothes fell off his body. Jiro shrieked at his nudity. "Ah sorry about that," Togata said pulling his pants back on.

"Hah!" Midoriya yelled going for a kick to the head. Now was the perfect opportunity, only, his foot went straight through Togata.

Sero, Ashido, and Aoyama attacked as well but their attacks also went through his body. The acid, tape, and laser mixture was heading straight for Midoriya. I jumped into the air and used my air quirk to help push Midoriya out of the way. He nodded a thanks to me. As I was falling back to the ground I noticed Togata had disappeared. Just as I landed next to Midoriya he appeared behind the long ranged fighters and began to take them out one by one.

"Warping too?!" Kirishima exclaimed. "Not just phasing? What kind of crazy strong quirk does he have?"

I took back to the air, giving myself a considerable boost. I activated my earth quirk to try and find him in the ground. "I can't feel him," I gasped. That's when I realized his quirk wasn't as strong as we thought. Just the way he's using it.

"POWER!" Togata shouted as he took out the rest of the long range fighters. He took out half of us in just a few minutes.

Just before I landed I gave myself another burst of air. I couldn't keep myself aloft but I could bounce. Shota called out to us, "this is a great opportunity for you guys! Make sure you get that lesson beaten into you. Mirio Togata, as far as I'm aware, is the closest to being the top hero. That's including us pros."

The only ones left, other than myself, were Midoriya, Kirishima, Sato, Koda, Hagakure, Uraraka, Ojiro, and Iida. He left the melee fighters for last. "The phasing is one thing but the warping is just too much!" Kirishima groaned.

"He's invincible!" Hagakure chimed in.

I landed next to them, "he's not invincible. He's just skilled, he has more experience than us and he knows how to use his quirk appropriately." Togata grinned at me, almost like I gave the answer he was waiting to hear.

"I agree," Midoriya said. "There has to be a trick. I think Shichi is on to something, the warping might be a function of the phasing or vise versa. Either way he's a melee fighter too so if we try and counter that can be the moment where we can touch him. We just need to take a step back and form a hypothesis and search for a way to win. That's why Shichi keeps leaping into the air."

"You're looking for an opening?" Kirishima looked at me in surprise.

"Something like that," I nodded.

"Well, that's a good tip," Kirishima said. "Seems post lock-down Midoriya is really on point!"

"Search all you like!" Togata yelled as he began to sink into the ground. I jumped up just as he appeared behind Midoriya and I.

Midoriya kicked out at Togata, he was able to predict his moves. Instead of Midoriya going through Togata, he phased through Midoriya. "Blinder Touch Eyeball Crush!" He yelled his ultimate move as he blinded Midoriya.

"Ah!" Midoriya cried out as Togata punched him hard in the stomach. He dropped to his knees in pain.

"Most opponents come up with a plan to counter, so naturally I've trained myself to counter it," Togata explained as he brought down everyone else, leaving me. "Looks like you're the last one. I'm guessing you have a plan?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. If he could counter counter-attacks then dodging would be my best bet. My quirk would be useless against him so I would have to rely on my fighting skills alone. "Maybe," I said. I brought my hands up, one across my stomach and the other over my face.

As soon as Togata came at me I dodged his attack. I tried wrapping my arm around his, while guarding my torso, but mine went through his. I activated my fire quirk, trying to buff my defenses. "That won't work!" Togata said as he grabbed my hair and slammed me into the ground. The wind was knocked out of me, in that moment my flames died and he punched me in the stomach. I coughed and tried to get up, but he had me pinned.

"Alright that's it!" Togata climbed off me and offered me a hand.

My stomach hurt but I took his hand, "thanks."

Everyone grouped together, they all seemed to be in the same pain I was. Togata put his shirt back on and approached us. "Whew, I barely managed to keep my privates hidden for you ladies' sake. So do you think my quirk is strong?"

"Way too strong!" Sero groaned.

"It's totally unfair!" Hagakure added.

"Are you a hybrid like Todoroki and Shichi?" Ashido asked.

"Oh! Can I tell them your quirk?" Hado asked, bouncing up and down.

"This is Mirio's chance to shine," Amajiki said cooly.

"My quirk is called Permeation," Togata said. "I only have the one and like you guessed, my warping is just another function of it."

"What's the principle behind it?" Midoriya asked, taking mental notes.

"When I activate my quirk across my whole body I pass through anything and everything, including the ground itself," Togata explained.

"So that's why I couldn't feel you in the earth," I tapped my chin.

"You did seem like you were falling," Uraraka added.

"Yep, falling straight through the earth," Togata nodded. "When I deactivate my quirk underground something amazing happens, since multiple objects cant occupy the same space at once, one of them gets repelled. Meaning I get launched out of the ground instantaneously. That's the secret behind my warping. I can control the angle via orientation and pose. So basically I get to choose where I get shot out of."

"That sounds like a glitch in a video game," Ashido said flatly.

"So attacks pass right through you and you can change your position instantly?" Asui asked. "Sounds like it's a strong quirk after all." I began to think about how she might be wrong. It didn't sound like a strong quirk at all. In fact, it seemed like a difficult one to have.

"It's more like I made it strong," Togata said. "When it's active my lungs can't absorb oxygen, because even when I breathe the air passes right through me. Similarly, my eardrums can't pick up vibrations and my eyes can't absorb light. It all passes through me and I can't feel anything at all. My body still has mass so all I have is the sensation of falling endlessly."

"For example," Togata continued, "say I wanna pass through a single wall. I have to activate it over my whole body except one leg, then release it on the other leg and touch down. Finally, activate it on the first leg to pass all the way through. So even a simple act like that is quite the process."

"Wow, I'd probably screw up if I were in a rush," Kaminari said.

"I used to take my sweet time with it, just to be safe," Togata said. "I would hold back until the last second and end up falling anyways, then my clothes would fall off. Time was one thing I didn't have if I wanted to make it to the top with my quirk. I had to predict, faster than my surroundings could change. Foresight was essential if I wanted to trick time itself. Experience was the only way to get good at predicting. Experience fosters that sort of mental ability."

"I know I've taken up a lot of your time," Togata scratched his head. "But that's why we had to fight! Experience teaches more than words ever could! During our work studies we weren't just guests but genuine sidekicks. They treated us like pros. It was terrifying to deal with life and death situations, but scary or not, painful or not, it was the sort of top notch experience you can't get from school alone. I turned my work study experience into power that's allowing me to reach for the stars! That's why, even if you are scared, I wholeheartedly recommend it to you first-years!"

We all began clapping at his speech. He spoke like a true pro hero. All in all I think he managed to inspire us all. I thought about my own internship with Endeavor. Shoto and I ended up running off to deal with the Hero Killer. We did have a lesson taught to us from that experience. I brought my hand up to the shoulder that Stain had stabbed. Togata glanced over at me and smiled.

"It did feel like we were guests," Kaminari said.

"They never let us try anything dangerous," Jiro pointed out.

"Alright it's time to head back," Shota said. We thanked Togata, Hado, and Amajiki and we went back to class.

Later that night I sat with Uraraka and the other girls. "I wonder what's going to happen," Uraraka said. "Mr. Aizawa said they are still on the fence about us doing work studies."

"Have you heard anything from him, Kanna?" Tsu asked with a ribbit.

"No, Shota doesn't tell me these things," I laughed.

"Well from Togata's speech at the end, it sounds like being the best is pretty awesome!" Ashido exclaimed, stretching her arms wide.

"Well all we can do is wait for Mr. Aizawa's approval," Momo said, pulling her hair down.

"True," I nodded. "I hope we can though."

A couple days later, Shota finally had an announcement regarding work studies. "We had a conference about potential work studies for first-years yesterday. Plenty of teachers, the principal included, said 'Don't even think about it.'"

"Even after that demonstration?" Kirishima groaned.

"I mean, it makes sense," Kaminari interjected. "Think about what led to the dorm system."

"Hah!" Katsuki sneered, he was finally allowed back in class.

"You are just saying that because you wouldn't be able to go anyways," Hagakure said boldly.

"But," Shota said silencing everyone, "some were of the opinion that the overprotective direction we are going in won't foster strong heroes. As such we are allowing agencies with proven track records, that offer work studies, to take on first years. That is our decision."

Later that day I was walking around campus, trying to make a decision about my work study when I heard someone calling my name. I turned around and saw Togata running up. "Hey Shichi!"

"Hey, Togata," I waved back to him.

"I heard they are letting first-years do work studies!" He said, energetically. "Have you thought about where you wanna go?"

"Well for my internship I was with Endeavor, but I'm not sure he would want me back considering what happened," I scratched my cheek. "Otherwise, I'm not sure."

"What kind of hero do you wanna be, if you don't mind me asking," Togata asked.

"I'm sure you have heard about me from the news," I flushed slightly. "I wanna be the kind of hero who helps people. The kind of hero where people feel safe when they see me. I don't want another child to feel as afraid as I did, you know?"

Togata smiled, "You were also inspired by All Might, huh?"

"Well All Might saved me," I said, bluntly.

"Well have you considered about asking Sir Nighteye?" Togata asked.

"Oh I've seen him before," I rubbed my chin. In the media interviews he always seemed so familiar but I could never place him. I flipped through my packet looking for his agency. "He sent me an offer after the sports festival."

"Oh so Sir is already interested in you!" Togata grinned. "Well how would you like to come and meet him this weekend? I said I would introduce Midoriya then too."

"Sure!" I nodded, "I'd be glad to meet him! He seems like a serious hero, I'm sure I could learn a lot from him!"

"Great, I'll see you Sunday morning!" Togata waved as he ran off.

Sunday morning came, I put on my uniform and grabbed my bag, making sure I had the form I needed. I headed down stairs and waited for Midoriya. I gave a quick kiss to Shoto and wished him luck on his first day of his provisional license course. Once Midoriya was ready we took the train, about an hour away, to Sir Nighteye's agency. Togata was waiting for us when we arrived. Midoriya seemed more nervous than me.

"Okay you guys, Sir is a pretty strict guy," Togata warned.

"He's a stoic hero famous for being strict with himself and everyone else," Midoriya explained. "That stare of his always gives me the chills, even in interviews."

"Really?" I tapped my chin. "He doesn't seem that scary to me. Maybe from living with Shota all these years I've grown accustomed to scaryish stares."

"Well there is that," Togata chuckled, "but there is another side of Sir that the media doesn't show." He continued as he led us to Sir Nighteye's office. "So if you don't wanna get turned away at the door, then before you are done talking with him you gotta make Sir laugh."

"What do you mean?" Midoriya asked.

"Despite Sir's general image, or maybe because of it, he has a lot of respect for humor," Togata explained. "Now I can only get you to the door, and honestly Shichi has a better chance since she was scouted. But, it's up to Sir if he takes you or not. I'd like to help more but you guys gotta win him over."

"Why are you being so nice to me?" Midoriya asked. "I mean we've only just met."

"It's not really about being nice," Togata replied. "I heard about your crazy goals and decided to make it happen. I'm the type to butt in whenever someone needs help. You know basic hero stuff."

"I think you will do just fine, Midoriya," I smiled at him.

"Alright here we are," Togata gestured to the door ahead. "Sir is beyond that door, if you wanna get stronger then you gotta kick it down yourself!" We entered the room and Togata spoke, "I brought the first-years I mentioned yesterday!"

Inside there was a girl strapped to a machine that read Tickle Hell. She was laughing as these feathers kept tickling her sides. "What's going on?" Midoriya asked, just as confused as myself.

"Seems his sidekick, Bubble Girl, wasn't being funny enough," Togata rubbed his chin.

Sir Nighteye turned around to face us, when he met our gaze he glared at us. Before I could say anything Midoriya made his face look like All Might's. Both mine and Togata's jaw dropped as he spoke, "my name is Izuku Midoriya!"

"Are you trying to make fun of All Might?" Sir asked, glaring at Midoriya. I looked around the room, he had pictures and memorabilia of All Might all over the walls. He was clearly a fan. "What was your intention of making that face? I'm sure you are aware of my status as All Might's sidekick, you ruffian."

I watched as he began to inspect Midoriya and criticize his impression. That's when it hit me. I knew Sir Nighteye and had met him in person. The memories came rushing back to me. He was there that night, when All Might saved me. I blinked rapidly and focused back in the present. Sir and Midoriya were talking about a prior incident where All Might saved a kid from drowning. Only the kid turned the water into vinegar, making All Might's face look wrinkled. That's what he was trying to imitate.

Sir gave Midoriya a glare before turning to me, "so Kanna Shichi. You are interested in my agency as well?"

"Ah yes sir," I nodded. "Uhm, before we talk about that, I remember you."

"Oh?" Sir raised an eyebrow.

"That night, they didn't know what to do with me. I remember how scared and alone I felt, but you made me laugh," I felt my voice catch. "For the first time in my life I laughed, because of you. Then you gave me a purple dress and told me that All Might was taking me to a home. I still have that dress."

The corners of his mouth turned up, slightly. "I'm glad to hear you remember me. It seems you learned how to control your quirk and you seem to be in good spirits."

"Yes, Sir," I nodded and smiled brightly at him.

"Alright shall we get to business then?" Sir sat down at his desk. "So you want to grow stronger," he said to Midoriya, "and you want to learn more about being a hero," he said to me. "That's why you two want to do a work study under me.

"Yes please!" Midoriya exclaimed.

"The school form--" Sir started before Midoriya interrupted him, trying to hand over the form. "Please don't interrupt me again. Once I stamp your forms with my personal seal the contract is complete. This won't be like other work studies offered in other fields, which may range from a day to a week. You will be working here a minimum of one month, with compensation of course. As first-years with many classes you will need to take numerous excused absences. As such, you will fall behind your classmates."

I nodded understanding what he was getting at. Midoriya and I handed over our forms. "If I were only looking to keep up then I'd never be the best," Midoriya said with determination.

Sir took our forms and laid them out in front of him. He stamped my form and handed it back to me. However when he went to stamp Midoriya's he stamped the desk instead.

"You missed," Midoriya said confused.

"That's because I had no intention of stamping this form," Sir said continuing to tap the desk with his stamp. "What you gain from working here is abundantly clear, but what do I have to gain from hiring you? My agency already employs two sidekicks and one student and it operates without a hitch. Kanna Shichi at least has potential from what I've seen and heard about her. She could be an asset here. But what profit does your employment offer me? How can you contribute to society? In what way does your presence benefit others?"

Sir stood up to face Midoriya, "you must demonstrate these things if you wish to have my approval. All Might has done so with his power and humor. He gave hope to those threatened by villainy. That is why people accepted him. Determine what benefit you can offer my agency and show through your actions not your words."

There was a pause, Midoriya looked at me almost in defeat. There wasn't anything I could do to help him and he knew that. Finally Sir spoke again, "three minutes. You have three minutes to seize my seal from me. If you truly wish to learn about heroism at my side then stamp the form yourself."

"Huh?" Midoriya asked in shock.

"Your humor is appallingly bad, nonetheless I'm offering you another chance, I'm quite kind, yes?" Sir narrowed his eyes at Midoriya. "Mirio, Bubble Girl, Shichi please leave the room."

"Uh sure," Togata said.

"With more feeling this time," Sir said.

"Yes Sir!" The three of us cheered together.

Once we left the room Bubble Girl turned to Togata, "did you have to do a practical?"

"No, like Shichi I was scouted." Togata laughed.

"Really? He liked you from the beginning? I'm so jealous!" Bubble Girl groaned making me giggle. "So you are Kanna Shichi. It'll be nice to work with you."

"Likewise," I nodded. "Do you think Midoriya will pass?"

"I'm not sure to be honest," Togata shook his head. "But, hey he accepted you!"

"Yeah, I'm grateful he did," I blushed.

Three minutes passed and we heard a huge crash. Togata, Bubble Girl, and I opened the door. The room was completely trashed and Midoriya was on the ground, blood coming from his nose.

"Are you guys done?" Togata asked. "We heard a crash."

Sir pushed his glasses up his nose, "I accept him Mirio."
