Prologue

Her life started seven years ago. That fateful day the man called her forward. "Test subject seven please step into the room." She kept her head down as she walked barefoot into the 'earth' room. She learned never to look at the man directly. Dirt and grass covered the floor, she wiggled her toes letting the soft grass brush against her. She looked around and saw the familiar boulders that were strewn about.

"Okay whenever you are ready," He commanded. She had already done this many times. She slid her foot back and lifted the rock as high as she could. "Great, now down." As she was slowly lowering it her hand slipped and the rock fell cracking in half. "Damn it I told you before!" He snapped as he proceeded to beat her with the baton he carried.

She fell to the ground and whimpered with every blow. Blood began to seep from her wounds staining the white shirt they had her wear. If she cried out or struggled they would only make the beating worse. She learned to endure the pain and wait for it's end.

A woman stepped into the room. She pulled her glasses down, glaring at the test subject. "I don't understand why she struggles with this one."

"Maybe it's a defect?" The man said as he cleaned and folded the baton. He put it in his pocket and forced the subject to stand. Despite her pain she stood steady, waiting for a new command.

"Could be. Her air and water quirks seem to do well," The woman said reviewing her clipboard. She wrote down a few notes, clicking her tongue in disappointment.

"Maybe she just isn't trying hard enough," The man said grabbing the girl by her arm. "You, take her away. Make sure to spray her wounds."

An assistant came forward and grabbed the girl dragging her down the hall. He stripped her naked and poured antibacterial liquid on her that burned. They didn't take the time to do each cut so they would just douse her head to toe. Once she was done the assistant dragged her back to her cell and left her there naked and cold. There weren't any windows in her cell so she couldn't tell when the day ended and night began. She curled up on her metal slab that was supposed to be her bed and silently cried herself to sleep. This was her life, for eight long years she endured the daily torture.

"Get up," The man said opening her cell. She was unsure how much time had passed.

"I'm afraid," She sobbed unmoving.

"I don't give a shit. Let's go number seven," The man commanded.

"No," She raised her head defiantly, her steel grey eyes cutting straight through to him.

"You dare disobey me?!" The man glared at her. He lifted his hand to slap her face.

"I refuse!" She snapped finally reaching her breaking point. The ground started to tremble around them. She wanted all of it to end even if she had to bring down the whole building. She increased the tremors until the man fell backwards. She brought her hands up and two pieces of rock shot up to protect her as the lab started to come down on top of them. She didn't know how long the earthquake went on for but she closed her eyes and waited for it to end.

"Over here I think I hear someone!" A voice called out. She didn't recognize it, out of curiosity she dropped the rocks around her and peered out.

"I-is someone there?" She asked softly.

"Don't worry child. I am here." A tall man with yellow hair took his cape off and wrapped it around her. He noticed the scars that covered her body, lashings all across her back. Scars that ran down her arms and legs. Fresh wounds on her chest and bruises all over. "Can you tell me your name?" He asked trying to steady her shaking.

"I'm test subject number seven," She responded leaning into the man. She sensed he was kind, she wanted nothing more to believe he wouldn't hurt her.

He scooped her up in his strong arms and took her outside. She looked around and breathed in the crisp night air. She had never felt the outside before. She looked up into the night sky and started to cry. "Do not fear. You are saved," The man said giving her the friendliest smile she had ever seen. "Can you tell me what happened?"

At that question everything came rushing back. She looked to the crumbling lab and her steel eyes flashed green. Tremors started again causing the remaining parts of the building to collapse completely. "I didn't wanna be hurt! I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" She wailed bringing her hands to her white hair.

"All Might what's happening?" Another man came rushing forward.

"I think it's her quirk," All Might said placing a hand on her head. "Calm down you are safe. No one will hurt you. We are going to take you somewhere safe."

"I'm safe?" She asked her eyes fading from green back to grey. She shook her head, everything felt like a dream. When she woke up she would be back in the lab. But she didn't want this to end, even if it was only a dream.

All Might took the girl to the police station where they wondered what to do with her. "She doesn't seem to have control over her quirk," A man said taking a better look at her. "She could be dangerous."

The girl clutched All Might's cloak and wrapped it tighter around her. "What is your quirk?" All Might asked her. She thought for a moment remembering the voices in the lab, discussing her quirk and what it could do.

"Elemental," She replied. She had heard that term more than any other. "Fire, earth, air, and water."

"Such a powerful quirk in the hands of a scared child!" A woman took a step back. It was clear that they feared the child. They looked at her with a different face than the lab people, but their reactions made the girl scared.

As she shrunk away, ready for a beating or something worse All Might noticed and placed a hand on her shoulder. "No one will hurt you here."

"What should we do with her?" The man asked straightening his uniform.

"I know of a hero who could help her. You know the hero Eraserhead?" All Might asked them. "If her quirk gets out of control he can erase it."

"Do you think he would take in this child?" A woman asked gesturing to the girl. "She could cause him some trouble."

"We can try," All Might said. "First let's get her wounds tended to." He glanced down at her arms and shoulders. He noticed a black number seven tattooed on her right shoulder. The most recent cuts were already beginning to scab over when the healer arrived.

"I don't think I can do anything about the previous scarring but I've at least taken care of the fresh bruises and cuts," The healer said. She was a middle aged woman with soft brown hair. She looked at the girl with a kindness, but there was also a sadness seeing the years of torture that was apparent on her skin. The healer held a hand over the wounds on her chest and they began to close and disappear. Her skin changed from the blue and yellow back to her ivory color. She already felt better, less achy. The stinging she was so used to faded to nothing.

"Thank you," All Might said, the healer nodded and went off to deal with more patients. "Let's get her some clothes before we take her to Eraserhead."

Moments later she was dressed and cleaned. She wore a soft purple dress that went passed her knees. She kept feeling the cloth, letting the softness run over her hands. At the lab she only ever wore a large, white shirt. They put her in a car and began to drive. She looked out the window seeing the lights from the city pass by. Even the moon seemed to be shining down on her.

When they arrived All Might helped her out of the car, she took his hand and he led her up to the apartment door. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she felt the fear of the unknown. All Might gave her a reassuring smile and knocked on the door.

After a few moments the door opened and a man with long, black hair stood in front of her. He had it tied up in a messy bun. "What are you doing here All Might?" He asked almost glaring up at the hero. He seemed tired like he had just woken up.

"This girl needs a home," All Might said gesturing to the girl. She wanted to shrink behind All Might. "She has a powerful quirk that she can't control."

"Yea they said that on the phone. I just didn't think you would take the time to deliver her yourself," Eraserhead said squatting down to look at her. "What's your name?"

"Test subject number seven," She said gripping the ends of her dress. Her white hair falling in front of her steel eyes.

"That's not a proper name," Eraserhead said leaning in closer. "Would you like a real name?"

She looked up in surprise, her pale face flushed. "A name?"

"Sure," He smiled at her. "What about Kanna? Kanna Shichi."

"I'd like that very much!" She smiled and for the first time in her life she felt real joy as Eraserhead led her into his home.

"This room can be yours," He said bringing her to the guest room. "There should be some clothes you can wear to sleep in. They might be too big but they should do for now," He said pointing at the dresser. Kanna walked over and pulled out a shirt. It was a soft cotton shirt but it would be more like a dress on her. She pulled off her purple dress and laid it delicately on the bed. Eraserhead's eyes widened as he saw all the scars that covered her body.

"Why don't you get some rest and we can talk more in the morning," He said after she pulled the shirt over her small body. He could tell she was exhausted both mentally and physically.

"Okay Mr. Eraserhead sir," Kanna said climbing into the bed. The cotton sheets were cool and crisp. The bed was so soft and she felt like she was laying on a cloud. She pulled the blanket over herself and laid her head on the pillow. She never experienced luxury like this at the lab. Her bed was a metal slab without a blanket or a pillow to comfort her. She kept running her hands over the sheets as if trying to memorize the feel.

"Kanna, you can call me Shota," He said tucking her in. "You will be safe here. Sleep well," He brushed her hair back.

"Thank you for saving me," She said before sleep claimed her.

"Are you sure about this?" All Might asked taking a look at the small girl.

"She's got nowhere else to go. Also if she really doesn't have control of her quirk I can deal with it," Shota said folding his arms over his chest.

"You are a good man Eraser," All Might said patting his shoulder. "Someone will be by tomorrow to drop off clothing and other things for her. They are still going over the research data from the lab. Maybe they will find something that can help us."

"Did anyone else survive?" Shota asked leading him back to the living room.

"No she was the only one," All Might shook his head. He nodded at Shota before showing himself out.

Shota sat down in a chair and pulled his hair down. He rubbed his face wondering what the lab notes would say. Clearly whatever they were doing wasn't legal. He quickly finished the rest of his paperwork before going to his room. As he passed Kanna's room he quickly peered in. She was sleeping, her breathing was soft and her face peaceful. He pulled the blanket back up and gave her a soft pat on the head. He went to his own room and it wasn't long before he too reunited with sleep.

Later that night Shota was sleeping soundly when suddenly the house started to shake. "An earthquake?" He asked sitting up. He rubbed his eyes and remembered the girl he took in. He scrambled out of bed and ran down the hall.

"Kanna!" He shouted more concerned than upset. She was sitting on the bed, tears pouring down her cheeks. Her hands were gripping her short white hair.

"What have I done?!" She cried out, looking to Shota. Her expression was one of fear as if she expected him to hit her.

Shota activated his quirk causing his hair to stand straight up, his eyes glowed red. The shaking stopped and her piercing green eyes faded back to the steel grey. "Kanna it's okay. I'm here now," He sat on the bed and pulled her close to him. "You are safe. No one will hurt you."

"Shota, I'm sorry!" She buried her face in his chest as he stroked her hair.

"It's okay Kanna," He said softly. "Sleep now."

"Please don't leave me," Kanna whispered.

"I won't," He said as she curled up closer to him. She was trying to hang on to this moment of protection. He stayed with her all night keeping her safe. He knew that he would do everything in his power to help this scared girl.
