The sun was rising when Shota and I left the police station. I decided I wasn't ready to read the lab notes so Shota grabbed the envelope and took me home. I was exhausted from everything and I just wanted to sleep. I took my medicine and asked Shota if I could sleep in his bed. He was more than willing and we both fell asleep.
When I woke up it was early evening and Shota was already up. I went to the living room and saw that he had dinner ready for us. I sat down and picked at my food. "Eat," Shota said.
"32 people died that night?" I asked, trying not to look directly at him.
"Yes," Shota said. "It wasn't your fault."
"It was though," I said trying to hold back my tears. "I was the one who brought down the building."
"You stood up for yourself," Shota said. "They were abusing you. It was only a matter of time before you snapped." He was being honest with me.
"Everyone knows now," I said quietly. "What if they think I'm some sort of villain."
Shota came over and pulled me close to him. "You aren't a villain."
I cried that night. After, I ate a small amount of food before going back to lie down. I looked at my phone and saw that I had missed calls from my friends. I flipped through the text messages.
Ochaco Uraraka: Shichi! I saw what happened! I hope you are okay!
Denki Kaminari: Are you okay?
Izuku Midoriya: Did you make it home?
Shoto Todoroki: Can we talk?
I ignored them all and fell back asleep. I dreamed I was back in that place. I was locked in a metal room. The door opened and All For One walked in. "Number seven, how I have missed you."
"Don't touch me!" I yelled. I tried using my quirk but nothing happened.
"I gave you your quirk. Do you really think it would work against me?" All For One laughed mocking me. "Now it's time for you to kill All Might."
He dragged me into the earth room where All Might was chained up. He was in his weakened form, powerless to do anything. "Kill him now number seven!" Shigaraki said from behind me.
"No!" I yelled through my tears. "All Might!"
I woke up screaming. Shota was immediately next to me, comforting me. "Kanna you are safe. It was only a dream."
I buried my face into him and sobbed. I told him everything that happened and he listened while petting my hair. "It's okay, we will figure this out." He said when I finished talking.
The next morning I woke up to see Shota wearing a suit. Half of his hair was put up, making himself look presentable. "Where are you going?" I asked.
"All Might and I have to see the parents about the new dorms," Shota said. "They are moving all of the students into campus."
"Including me?" I asked there must have been a worry in my voice because Shota rested a hand on my shoulder.
"Yes. But don't worry all of the teachers are going to be living on campus as well," Shota explained.
"Did you get in trouble?" I asked, biting my lip.
"No," he shook his head. "Mic will be here soon so you don't have to be alone."
"Thank you," I said as I hugged him goodbye. "Good luck with the parents."
"Thanks," Shota said and with that he was gone.
Mic showed up shortly after. He came in and hugged me. "Oh Kanna! I'm so glad you are home again. I was so worried!"
"Me too," I said hugging him back.
"I brought you some more drawing things, to help keep your mind off everything." Mic said handing me a bag. Inside was a new sketchbook, nice colored pencils, and pens.
"Thank you," I said setting the bag down. "I really appreciate it."
"Here why don't I make you some breakfast," Mic stepped into the kitchen and made me a spicy, onion, omelette. "I know this is one of your favorites."
"Thank you," I took a bite of it but it just didn't taste right. "Do you think everyone will hate me?"
"How could anyone hate you?" Mic said. "You are one of the kindest people I've ever met."
"My friends have been trying to reach me." I said showing him my phone. I had always been comfortable with Present Mic. He was like an uncle to me.
Mic flipped through the messages. "It seems they are just worried about you."
"Todoroki said he wants to talk. What if he views me differently since he knows what I did?" I asked. I could feel my face begin to flush.
"I don't think he would." Mic said. "Todoroki seems like a reasonable young man. He probably just wants to make sure you're okay. He was one of the students who came to rescue you."
"What if he regrets doing that now?" I asked. All these questions kept coming into my mind. "What if Midoriya and Iida change their minds about being my friends? Both of them look up to heroes, what if they view me differently?"
"Okay take a deep breath," Mic said as I piled questions on him. "Why don't you try talking to them if you are concerned?"
"No I'm afraid," I shook my head.
"Eventually you will have to see them," Mic reminded me. "The dorms are almost ready."
I paused for a moment. "Oh. Right."
"I'm sure you will be okay," Mic said giving me a kind smile. "Why don't you show me some of the new art you are working on."
I nodded and ran to grab my sketch book. I recently began working on a picture of Kirishima. I was trying to draw pictures of all my classmates. "I still need to color it," I said handing him the book.
"Woah Kirishima looks so cool!" Mic said admiring my picture. In it I hade Kirishima in a fighting pose, skin hardened. He was smirking like he was ready to take down the next opponent. I had him in his costume and behind him I wrote Red Riot.
"I just need to finish this drawing then I think I'll draw Aoyama," I said as he flipped the next page. Sato was on that one. He was holding one of his arms up and in the other he had a piece of cake. Behind him read Sugarman.
"These are really good," Mic said admiring the next picture of Jiro. "You should show them off."
"No that would be embarrassing," I laughed waving my hand frantically.
"Well at least I got you to laugh," Mic smiled. "Maybe I should have you draw me looking all heroic!"
"I don't think that would be possible," I teased, making him pout.
"Not cool!" Mic said. The next picture he flipped to was one of Todoroki. He wasn't in his hero costume and he was looking far off. "This one is interesting."
"Ah yea I saw him staring off into space one day and I thought I would draw it," I tapped my fingers together, trying not to blush.
"Wow you somehow managed to make Bakugo look happy in this one," Mic flipped to a page where I had drawn Bakugo with Kirishima and Sero. "Oh I know! You should hang these up in your dorm!"
"You think I should?" I pondered.
"Of course," Mic nodded. "This one is really nice." He showed a picture I had done at the beginning of the year. It was Iida, Midoriya, Uraraka, and I walking together across the campus.
"That one is nice," I agreed. "Thank you Mic."
"For what?" He seemed puzzled.
"For making me feel better," I said giving him a hug.
"Anytime kid," Mic said patting my back.
The day arrived for us to move into the dorms. I had already packed all my things and Shota helped me bring them to campus where they took care of it from there. Everyone in my class was clustered in front of our new home. I was so nervous and afraid to talk to anyone. I hadn't reached out to any of my friends at all and I was sure they would be upset with me. I tried to make myself shrink, staying close to the back. Bakugo noticed and stood next to me.
"Hey," he said shortly.
"Hi," I replied stiffly.
"Class 1-A glad you are all here," Shota said approaching us.
"Everyone got permission!" Sato said excitedly.
"I was afraid you wouldn't be coming back Mr. Aizawa," Tsu said.
"I'm surprised too," Shota scratched his head. "Anyway, I'm going to give you a quick overview of the dorms but first, the training camp was meant for you to earn your provisional licenses. That's still the goal. Todoroki, Kirishima, Midoriya, Yaoyorozu, and Iida you five went to save Bakugo and Shichi. I think you all understand the consequences of your actions."
The tone shifted and I wanted to shrink even further. I could feel the tension coming from the other students. "If it weren't for All Might's retirement I would expel all of you except Bakugo, Shichi, and Jiro. However since they are unsure about the league's next move it's been ill advised to kick anyone out. The five of course who went but also the 12 who did nothing to stop them. Despite your reasons the fat remains that you betrayed our trust. From now on if you follow procedures and behave you might be able to regain that trust." Shota turned around and headed into the building. "Look alive everyone and get a move on."
Everyone looked sullen. How could they look lively after a conversation like that. Suddenly Bakugo grabbed Kaminari and led him away. We saw the shocks from the bush and Kaminari popped out, "yeahhh! Yay! Yay!" Everyone seemed to lighten up after that.
I on the other hand shook my head and chased after Shota. "You aren't going to goof off with the others?" He asked quietly.
"No," I bit my lip and shook my head.
Everyone entered the building in better spirits. "One class per building," Shota explained. "Girls on the right, boys on the left. The first floor is a common area. The dining hall, baths, and laundry are all here."
"Woah this place is huge!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"It is certainly luxurious!" Iida nodded in approval.
"Rooms start on the second floor, four girls rooms and four boys rooms per floor. There are five floors total," Shota continued. "You will have air conditioners, refrigerators, toilets, and closets." He showed us one of the rooms.
"Wow we even have a veranda!" Midoriya said stepping outside.
"Here are your room assignments," Shota said bringing up a floor plan. I was the only girl on floor two. Since there was an odd number of us it made sense. "Today has been set aside for you all to settle in. We will talk about what comes next tomorrow."
As I headed to my room Todoroki grabbed my wrist, "Shichi, can we talk?"
"I need to go unpack," I said trying to avoid him.
Todoroki looked disappointed for a moment before nodding. I quickly unpacked my things. I didn't have much in the way of decorations, but I did hang up all of my drawings. I had all of my classmates pictures on one wall and then other drawings on another. Most of them were heroes. I always found drawing people was easier than other things.
Once I was done I paced around the room for a little while. I finally decided I wanted to read the lab notes. The thought about my quirk had been on my mind ever since I had gotten back. Maybe the notes would shed some light on things I didn't quite remember. Maybe they would reveal something about One For All. I still had no luck on finding anything out about a hero by that name.
I walked out to the common area so I could head to the teacher's dorms. "Hey Shichi! We are going to have a room contest wanna join?" Ashido asked.
"No thanks," I said bluntly and took off.
It was a short walk to the dorm. I went to Shota's room and knocked on the door. When he answered it he let me in. His room was as plain as the one in our apartment. "I want to read the lab notes."
"Are you sure?" Shota asked as he grabbed the envelope.
"Yes," I nodded. It was time for me to face this.
"A lot of the files were corrupted but they typed out everything that was saved onto these sheets," Shota said as he pulled out a small packet from the envelope.
"Have you read them?" I asked taking them.
"Yes," Shota nodded. I read the first entry.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 4
Number seven has started showing signs of quirk development. It seems she inherited the earth control quirk from her paternal donor rather than be quirkless like the maternal. Tomorrow the director will introduce the water control quirk. If her body accepts it then fire and air will be added as well.
"My earth quirk was the one I was born with?" I asked slightly surprised. It was the one I feared the most and it was the one I was born with. I shook my head and read the next entry.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 4
Number seven seemed to be handling the new quirks well. No signs of rejection yet. We will begin testing, allowing her to grow accustomed to the new quirks.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 4
Number seven is beginning to struggle with her quirks. More training advised.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 4
Things have finally settled in her body. It seems the four quirks have bonded together into one. We also observed her eye color changes depending on element. The original earth quirk seems weaker compared to the others. More training advised.
I began to remember. I did manifest my quirks strangely. It seemed that the newest one added was the strongest which was the air. I had to sit down at that point. I felt my stomach grow queasy as I read on.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 5
Number seven burned her wrist with outside source of fire. More training advised.
I ran a hand across the burn. I remembered that I day. I was supposed to light five torches with one already lit. I lost control of the flames and burned my hand. As punishment they refused to heal it with a healer. Instead they let me suffer through the pain.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 5
Number seven is progressing well with air. She showed defiance with fire training. Proper discipline was enforced.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 6
Today number seven refused any training. This defiant behavior will cause problems if allowed to continue. She was given six lashings across her back as punishment.
It was always six. They would tie me to a metal pole, strip me naked, and whip me. The first time it happened I thought I was going to die. I still remember looking down at the ground and seeing my own blood beginning to pool.
"You don't have to keep going," Shota said noticing my unease.
"It's okay," I said with a shaky breath.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 6
Number seven almost drowned. We thought she could combine air with water and breathe underwater. She failed in this endeavor. Life saving measures were taken.
This was the reason I hated being submerged in water. That day they chained me up and tossed me into a pool. I sunk all the way to the bottom, unable to free myself I nearly died. They beat me severely, saying I put their project at risk. All of their hard work would be ruined if I died.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 7
The director came today to see her progress. He seemed impressed. He believes she will be a useful tool for his apprentice. He would like to see more improvement with earth and fire.
Tomura Shigaraki. So even back then he planned on giving me to the villain.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 7
Number seven broke her ankle today by dropping a boulder on it. A healer was called to fix it. Training will resume tomorrow.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 8
The more pressure we put on her earth quirk the more she shys away from it. She is refusing food. If continued life saving measures will be taken. New tests will begin next week.
By that point I wanted to die. I knew that I would never get to live my life for myself. I was a weapon not a person. The director, All For One, wanted me to destroy One For All. I just wanted everything to end. That was around the time I reached my breaking point. I flipped to the final entry.
Test Subject Number Seven: Age 8
Number seven has finally snapped. She is bringing the lab down. I am certain she will survive. This last entry will show the power she holds. If she gains more control over her elements she will be a true force to be reckoned with. Not even All Might will be able to defeat her. Once she realized her purpose and potential the director will find her again. Then she will be able to do what she was meant for.
My hands were shaking so bad and I could see the edges of the paper begin to burn. "Kanna," Shota said taking it from me. He pulled me close and I broke down. It was enough to remember everything, but now knowing that everything so far has been according to their plan.
"Why did All Might let me go? I should have been locked away," I said in between sobs.
"Because you were a child who was treated unfairly. You deserved to have a life. You deserve to be happy," Shota said stroking my hair.
"Did All Might make the right choice though?" I asked. "What if those reporters were right about me becoming a villain?"
"They are wrong, Kanna," Shota said. He put his hands on my shoulders to meet my eyes. "You are going to be a hero. All Might didn't make a mistake."
"I just have so many questions," I said after a moment.
"Talk to All Might," Shota said. "He will be able to answer your questions."
I wiped away my tears and nodded. All Might was the symbol of peace, a true hero. Hopefully he wouldn't see me as a monster. Shota kissed my forehead and I left his room. I walked down the hall and when I reached All Might's I slowly knocked on the door.
"Come in!" All Might called. I opened the door and saw him sitting on a chair. Both arms wrapped in bandages from the fight. His hollow eyes stared at me as I entered the room. "Young Shichi, this is a surprise. Have a seat."
"All Might, when you saved me did you know that I was meant to destroy you?" I asked directly. I didn't know how else to phrase this.
"No," All Might shook his head. "You were a scared child in need of saving."
"All For One created me. My quirk isn't my own," I said. Tears started to roll down my cheek. "Are you the hero One For All?"
All Might sighed. "One For All isn't the name of a hero. It's the name of a quirk. My quirk to be exact."
"How can a quirk be destroyed?" I asked. "Why would he tell me that instead of just saying I had to defeat you? Why does it seem like the two are separate?"
"Okay slow down kid," All Might said. "My quirk is one that can be passed on. Before you ask I was the eighth holder of it. Now young Izuku Midoriya is the holder of One For All. It's a quirk that has been passed on and improved upon for generations."
"So you lost your power?" I asked wiping my face. This was a lot to take in.
"I passed it on. But yes, I no longer have my power," All Might said. "I trust you will keep this between us."
"Of course," I said quickly. "So All For One has been not only your enemy but the other successors?"
"That's correct," All Might nodded.
"Well I guess it makes sense now why you've taken a special interest in Midoriya," I said softly. "Is All For One going to try and come for me again?"
"He is in prison and will be for the rest of his days," All Might assured me. "As for your quirk, just because it was given to you doesn't mean it isn't yours. You are the one who has trained it and worked to make it your own. All For One might have given you that power but you are the one who decides what to do with it."
"I want to be a hero," I said. "I want to save people."
"Then do that," All Might said. "I know you will make a great hero. Don't let this stop you from achieving that."
"Thank you, All Might," I said, giving a smile. "Thank you for saving me and giving me a chance at life.
I went back to my dorm feeling like a weight had been lifted off my chest. I was going to be a hero.
