Hassaikai

A week had passed since the incident with Chisaki and Eri. I noticed Midoriya seemed distracted, he was struggling with classes. Shota even warned him that if he couldn't handle both work study and class he would end it. Sir hadn't called either of us in since the incident either. So instead of focusing on that I dived into class work. Making sure to keep up with everything.

When I walked into class I noticed Katsuki and Shoto were both covered in bandages. I walked over to Katsuki, "what happened to you?"

"Tch," Katsuki turned his head from me. Seems his license class was proving to be harsher than he thought.

"Wow even Todoroki is messed up," Kaminari said.

"It's a shame to see that pretty face all messed up," Ashido laughed.

"You okay, Shoto?" I asked as I sat down.

"Fine," Shoto nodded at me.

"Where are Uraraka and Tsu?" Iida asked, ever attentive.

"They are at their work study, same with Kirishima," Momo said.

"I heard Kirishima is working with Fat Gum and Amajiki," I said leaning against my desk. "Uraraka and Tsu are with the Dragoon Hero, Ryukyu. I hope their work study is going well too." They were with Hado.

"That's cool," Shoto said as he pulled out a notebook. "How's your work study?"

"We haven't been in recently," I bit my lip. "I think Sir doesn't need us yet."

"Maybe," Shoto shrugged.

After class let out I received a phone call, "hello?" I answered.

"Shichi, it's Bubble Girl. I was wondering if you could come in tomorrow? Sir says he wants to talk to you," she said.

"Yeah I can. Do I need to bring my costume?" I asked.

"No, it's just to talk," Bubble Girl said.

"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow then," I said as I hung up. I sent Shota a text saying that I would be missing class.

The next morning I put on my uniform and grabbed my bag. I made sure I had the drawing I did of Eri. I finished it a couple nights ago and now would be the perfect time to give it to Sir. While I rode the train I got a text from Togata. He told me that he was going to be at this meeting and wondered if I knew what it was about. I told him I didn't, but Midoriya wasn't with me.

When I got to the Nighteye Agency Togata was outside waiting. "Hey," I waved to him.

"Hey Shichi!" Togata beamed at me. "Ready?"

"Mhmm," I nodded and we went inside to Sir's office.

"Good morning, Mirio, Shichi," Sir greeted us.

"Morning Sir!" Togata and I said at the same time.

"Just curious but what's this about?" I asked.

"It's about the League of Villains," Sir said.

"Are they working with Chisaki?" Togata asked.

"We aren't sure yet, there seems to have been an issue between the groups," Sir said, adjusting his glasses. "But in case they are involved I wanted to talk with you Shichi."

"Me?" I blinked at him.

"You could still be a target for them," Sir elaborated. "It could get messy for you."

"Oh I see, well I won't let that happen," I narrowed my eyes. "The League of Villains and Chisaki's group both need to be put away. If they are working together then maybe this could be a chance to take them both down, right?"

"Perhaps," Sir tapped his chin. "I just wanted you to be aware of the risks."

"I understand," I nodded. "Oh Sir, here I drew a picture of that girl, Eri, for you." I took out the picture and handed it to him.

"Thank you, this will be helpful," Sir said inspecting the page. "There's one other thing I wanted to ask you about. I heard that additional notes were discovered from the lab?"

"Yes, Sir," I nodded. "They mentioned my quirk mostly."

"Your quirk?" Sir raised an eyebrow at me.

"Yes, it turns out I was only born with my earth quirk," I explained. I felt strange telling both Sir and Togata this, but they needed to know. "The director of the lab, the same one All Might fought, he gave me the other elements while my quirk was developing."

"In the prior notes they mentioned you were meant to destroy All Might," Sir said after a moment.

"Yes, I was also supposed to become Tomura Shigaraki's weapon. That's why the League wants me. They don't see me as a team member, but a tool for destruction."

"Really?" Togata gasped. "I wonder, if Chisaki were to learn about this would he come after Shichi too?"

"I'm not sure," Sir tapped his chin. "What they are plotting still seems to be a mystery. Hopefully we will receive more intel over the next couple days. Thank you both for coming. That's all for now."

The next day all of us were in class. Kirishima, Tsu, and Uraraka all had their names in the news. Seems Red Riot helped take on some thugs while Froppy and Uravity helped take down two villains with giant quirks. The three of them were the talk of the class. Midoriya and I hadn't made our debuts yet, but maybe soon we would get the chance. Iida made sure to tell them to remain focused on their studies as well.

A few days later Midoriya and I were called in. We were told to come in just out uniforms. As we were about to leave Kirishima came out. "Hey you guys going to your work study?"

"Yep, what about you?" I asked.

"Yeah!" Kirishima nodded.

Suddenly Tsu and Uraraka came out as well. "You guys too?" Midoriya asked.

"Yep, kinda weird how we are all leaving at the same time," Uraraka laughed.

We all headed to the train station together and boarded the same train. "Kirishima aren't you based in Kansai?" Midoriya asked.

"Yeah but we are meeting somewhere else today," Kirishima shrugged.

When the train stopped we all got off together. "Maybe it's a coincidence?" Tsu said.

"Maybe," I said, but my doubts increased when we turned the corner and walked the same direction together.

We came up to the Nighteye agency where we saw The Big Three standing out front. When we went inside there were a bunch of other heroes about. "Gran Torino?" Midoriya exclaimed seeing the old timer.

"Shota?" I ran up to him. "What are you doing here?"

"I got a request to help, didn't I tell you?" Shota asked.

"No you didn't," I pouted and he patted my head.

"Well I've been told the gist of what's going on, plus I have something to tell everyone," Shota explained.

Sir got all of our attention, "Thanks to the intel provided by you all, we are making great strides with the investigation. The small organization known as the Shie Hassaikai is plotting something. I've called all of you to this discussion to share exactly what we know. We will go over everything step by step in the meeting room."

While we walked to the meeting room Tsu and Uraraka introduced me to The Dragoon Hero: Ryukyu. She was the pro hero that they were working with. It turned out that Hado introduced them. Kirishima also introduced me to the hero he was working with, Fat Gum. I had heard of him before from Shota, but it was nice to meet him in person.

When we went into the meeting room Midoriya, Togata, and I sat on the right side, close to Sir Nighteye. Since we were representing his agency it made sense for us to be near him. Sir turned to Bubble Girl and nodded, "let's begin."

Bubble Girl held up some papers, she seemed slightly nervous but quickly shook it off. "For the past two weeks or so the Nighteye Agency has been conducting an independent investigation of the designated villain group, known as the Shie Hassaikai."

"What started all of this?" One of the other pros asked.

"It was an incident involving a band of thieves known as the Reservoir Dogs. The police wrote it off as an accident but there were a few inconsistencies that prompted our investigation," Bubble Girl explained.

Centipeder, the other sidekick for the Nighteye agency, stood up. He looked like a centipede, with the body wrapped around his neck like a scarf. The rest of his body was normal, human-like. "Under Nighteye's orders, I've been following some leads. According to my findings the organization has been making extensive contact with outsiders and underworld dealers throughout the past year. Their goals seem to be the expansion and accumulation of funds. Shortly after we began the investigation they made contact with a member of the League of Villains. Jin Bubaigawara, who goes by the name Twice," he explained. "They were all very wary of being tailed so we couldn't pursue them then. But the police have provided further assistance. Their findings confirm some sort of conflict between the two groups."

"Something to do with the League, eh?" Gran Torino spoke up. "So that's why you reached out to me and Tsukauchi."

"Where is Detective Tsukauchi?" A pro asked.

"He's following up on some more eyewitnesses," Gran Torino said before turning toward Midoriya. "Kid, let's hope it doesn't come to it, but you might get dragged into some nasty business. The same can be said for you Shichi."

"It's no trouble at all!" Midoriya exclaimed.

"I'm already aware, Sir and I discussed it," I nodded, giving Sir a half smile.

"Friend of yours?" Togata asked Midoriya.

"From my internship," Midoriya said.

"Please continue," Sir said looking up at Bubble Girl.

"Given these developments we reached out to you all via HN for help," Bubble Girl continued.

"HN?" Uraraka looked over at Hado.

"The Hero Network," Hado said. "It's a webservice for licensed heroes. You can check out what heroes all over the country are doing and even put in requests to heroes with quirks that might come in handy for whatever you are working on."

"UA students or not, what are these kids even doing here?" A dark-skinned pro, sitting next to me, asked. "They're just slowing us down. The sun is gonna set before we even get to talking about the bad guys' grand plan."

"Baloney!" Fat Gum stood up. "These two are super important participants!"

"Do you mean us?" Kirishima looked up, while Amajiki tried shrinking in his chair.

"I'm seeing plenty of unfamiliar faces here," Fat Gum said looking around. "I'm Fat Gum, nice to meet ya!"

"Hassaikai was once suspected of dealing in illegal substances," Sir interjected. "That's why I called in a hero familiar with such things."

"Back in the day I squashed loads of dealers like that," Fat Gum said. "But during Red Riot's debut battle, the other day, the perp went and shot Tamaki here with a type of drug I've never seen before. A drug that destroys quirks."

A drug that could destroy someone's quirk? Everyone seemed just as shocked as I was. All For One could give and take quirks. That was scary enough on its own, but to think there was a drug that could destroy a quirk.

"Tamaki are you gonna be okay?!" Togata jumped up, concerned for his friend.

"Yeah," Amajiki nodded. "I was back to normal after a good night's rest. See, here is a fabulous cow hoof." He used his quirk to turn his hand into a hoof. Togata let out a sigh of relief and sat back down.

"So he recovered?" The dark-skinned pro asked. "That's a relief. The stuff must not be fatal."

"No," Sir shook his head, "on that point I'll turn to Eraserhead."

"It seems to be different than my Erasure," Shota began, "because I'm not actually attacking a person's quirk itself. What we call quirks are special additions to an ordinary body, or the Plus Alpha Elements. Everything included within the Plus Alpha are what we call the quirk factors. What I do is temporarily stop those factors from activating. I can't actually cause any damage."

"We got Tamaki checked out at the hospital right after the incident. They said his quirk factors were damaged. Luckily his body's natural healing abilities were enough to fix the problem," Fat Gum said. "It didn't do anything else to Tamaki's body. It only attacked his quirk. Now the gangster in question clammed up and the gun was destroyed. It looked like all we had was that one empty round. However, since one bounced off Kirishima's body we got our hands on a vial of the stuff that's still intact."

"Huh?" Kirishima looked up in surprise.

"Nice job!" Uraraka gave him a thumbs up.

"Way to go Kirishima," Tsu joined in.

"Hardening right?" Hado asked. "Seems you are the perfect guy for the job!"

"Analysis of the substance inside revealed something pretty disgusting," Fat Gum continued. "They found human cells and blood."

This too shocked everyone in the room. "So the effect it has comes from a person's quirk?" Ryukyu asked. "A quirk destroying quirk?"

"How does any of this connect to Hassaikai?" A pro asked.

"Although Kirishima caught the guy who had the substance, figuring out the network for drugs like that is pretty tricky," Fat Gum said. "It's all shrunk down since the old days, but drugs like these pass through multiple levels of groups and organizations down the supply chain until they've finally arrived at the lowest level. There's no proof that Hassaikai is the supplier in question but they definitely did business with one of those middlemen."

"That's all you've got?" A pro asked.

"The other day Ryukyu and her people stopped a feud between two villain groups. The boss of one of those groups was the middleman dealer just mentioned," Sir explained.

"One of those giant villains shot himself up with a booster to extend his shirt activation time," Ryukyu added.

"Linking all this recent organized crime activity to Hassaikai," a pro said, "perhaps you are just seeing what you want to see? I'm still not convinced. Seems like you want Hassaikai to be the root of all evil so you're painting just the right picture. I'm going to need something more concrete to go on."

A picture of Chisaki came up on the screen behind Sir. "Their young leader is Chisaki and his quirk is Overhaul, the ability to both dismantle and restore. Dismantle a quirk that can destroy and then heal. Then they have bullets that destroy quirks." As Sir was talking horror came across mine, Midoriya, and Togata's faces. The realization made my stomach turn and my breathing picked up.

"Chisaki has a daughter one with no birth record so the exact details are unclear," Sir said and the picture I drew came up on the screen. "All we have is this picture thanks to Shichi. When these three encountered her she was covered in an excessive number of bandages."

"No...it's too repulsive to imagine," Ryukyu said softly.

"That's super powered society for you," Gran Torino shook his head. "Anything you can imagine, there's someone out there who can make it happen."

"What? What're we imagining?" Kirishima looked around confused.

"Toldja we don't need kids here, just use your damn head," the dark-skinned pro spoke up. "You're sayin that he's turning his own daughter's body into these bullets and then sellin them on the black market?"

"It's uncertain whether or not he's selling them just yet," Sir said. "Given that the drugs current effects are somewhat underwhelming. But, if we imagine that it's simply in the testing phase. If he's simply distributing samples in order to attract followers. We are still lacking proof but he's bringing in people from across the country and ammassing funds. What if the final version of these bullets are capable of destroying a person's quirk permanently? One could execute any number of fiendish plans with such a thing."

"It makes me sick!" Fat Gum exclaimed. "Let's go bust down their doors!"

"So if your kids had just saved the girl then our problems would have been solved?" The dark-skinned hero glanced at us.

I shot him a deadly glare and for a split second I felt heat come off my hands. Sir held a hand up, "I take full responsibility, so please don't blame them." I let out a breath at Sir's statement. "They didn't know the extent of the circumstances but these three actually took measures to save her."

Togata kept a clear head trying to protect the investigation so we could save her later. Midoriya and I went along with it because that was what we thought was the best move. I knew just how scared Eri was and how she must still be and now this? I never want another child to feel like I did, like how Eri is feeling.

"I'm certain that these three are the ones hurting the most," Sir said looking at us.

Togata, Midoriya and I all stood up at the same time, our chairs clattering to the ground behind us. "For sure next time!" Midoriya started.

"We will save her!" Togata and I finished with Midoriya.

"That is indeed our goal," Sir nodded.

"Tch, if she's even still alive," the dark-skinned hero shook his head. "If all your guesses are correct then this leader of theirs must see the girl as the core of his plan and probably someone worth hiding."

"But there must have been some sort of trouble because she got away," another pro added. "She got out and now to mention our junior heroes here saw her."

"If you were him would you just bring her back to the main hideout?" The dark-skinned pro asked. "Cause I know I wouldn't. We can charge in guns blazing but it's all for nothing if she ain't there. Is there anyway to be sure where he's keeping her?"

"He's raising some good questions, Nighteye," Ryukyu said.

"Indeed that is the issue at hand," Sir nodded. "Beyond the unclear nature and scope of their plan, should we fail to end this decisively in one strike, they won't give us another chance. Which brings us to the organizations Hassaikai has contacted as well as Hassaikai's verified properties. Through our investigation we've compiled an extensive list. I will be asking each of you to check out certain groups and locations on your own. We need to narrow the list down."

"So that's why you have us minor heroes here," One of the pros said.

"Take a good look," another pro interjected. "There's a connection between each hero's home territory and the list of locations. We were chosen because of our familiarity with the neighborhoods."

"You're being mighty cautious for bring All Might's former sidekick!" Fat Gum snapped. "Doing things all roundabout like this! While we are twiddling our thumbs, little Eri is probably out there crying somewhere!"

"We can't do things the way All Might would," Sir said calmly. "We must rely on analysis and precaution to raise our odds of saving her as much as possible."

"It's no good getting all worked up," Gran Torino added. "If we go big and mess this up and they get away it'll only stoke their fires higher. Just like how Stain's arrest was actually good PR for the League of Villains. Distributing quirk killing bullets to small time street punks might even be for that reason."

While the pros began chattering Shota raised his hand, "uhm, can I say something?" Everyone quieted down and Sir nodded. "I'm not exactly sure how your ability works Sir Nighteye, but why not use your foresight to see what sort of fate awaits us? Going forward without that knowledge seems irrational."

Sir shook his head, "I can't do that. My ability has limitations. Once activated it has a 24 hour cool down period. In other words, I can only view one hour of a single person's life per day. The images appear in my mind panel by panel, like a flashback. After using it's like I can watch recorded footage of that person's entire life, think of it that way. But, the entirety of the film plays out from the perspective close to the person in question. What I end up seeing is his or her actions and glimpses of the surrounding environment."

"That sounds like more than enough," Shota replied. "We could still learn plenty, so why can't you do it?"

"Well for one thing, what if in the near future what awaited the person was death?" Sir looked down at his hands. "A cruel, merciless death even, what then? I've trained my quirk to maximize the success rate of every action I take. I use it to all but ensure victory in battle. It's not meant to recklessly view situations with so many uncertainties."

"Well seeing if we are gonna die seems pretty darn useful!" The dark-skinned pro said. "Then we could come up with a plan to stay alive!"

"I'm not a fortune teller," Sir said. "There's no guarantee that the fate I see can be avoided."

"I don't get it Nighteye," the pro continued. "Why don't you take a look at me? I will avoid whatever life's got in store for me!"

"I can't!" Sir said seriously. It made sense why he wouldn't want to use his quirk to see our fates. Knowing that one of us could die was hard enough, but if he actually saw that fate with no real way to avoid it? That would be unbearable.

"Why don't we get started," Ryukyu said. "There is a child out there in need. That's what matters most."

Sir stood up, "confirm the girl's location and take measures to save her. Once we are as sure as we can be let's bring this matter to a swift resolution. Thank you all for your help." With that the meeting was over.
