Alias

"Alright now that we got that out of the way, Midnight will be assessing your names," Shota said as Midnight walked into the class. "I'm no good at these things." I remembered him telling me that Mic chose his hero name and since he wasn't planning on doing media appearances he went with Eraserhead. I think it worked out since the name suits him.

"Think about what sort of future you want for yourself," Shota said sliding into his sleeping bag. "The name you choose will bring you one step closer to showing a certain image because names reflect one's true character. Think of All Might."

"Exactly!" Midnight nodded in agreement. "This is an important step for all future heroes. Think hard about the name you want and in fifteen minutes we will go over them."

I looked at the board in front of me trying to think of a suitable name. Most people probably thought about this when they were kids. For me I never really considered it, I knew that I would need an alias but I was unsure of which one would represent me the best. I wrote down a couple names but ended up erasing them. I wanted something to showcase my elements but it was hard narrowing it down.

Fifteen minutes went by faster than I expected and Midnight called someone up to present. Aoyama was the first one to go, "The Shining Hero: I Cannot Stop Twinking," he said proudly.

"You want something that's easier to say," Midnight said adjusting his name. "How about Can't Stop Twinkling?" Aoyama nodded and went back to his seat. "Who's next?"

Ashido came up and showed her board, "Alien Queen!" Midnight ended up saying no to that one since it was too much like an alien monster.

"I'd like to go next," Tsu said walking up front. "I've thought about this since elementary school. The Rainy Season Hero: Froppy."

"That is a very cute name!" Midnight exclaimed. "Take note everyone, this is what we are going for. Pick a name that is suitable for you and your quirk."

That's when it hit me, the perfect name. I wrote my name down on my board as Kirishima walked up to the front. "The Sturdy Hero: Red Riot." He said giving a toothy grin.

"Is that an homage to The Chivalrous Hero: Crimson Riot?" Midnight asked.

"Yea, I know he's old school but he's my favorite and I wanna be a hero like him," Kirishima explained.

"Keep in mind that bearing the name of a personal hero bears a lot of responsibility," Midnight warned.

It seemed like after that more people came up with their names. Jiro chose The Hearing Hero: Earphone Jack. Shoji, The Tentacle Hero: Tentacole. Sero, The Taping Hero: Cellophane. Ojiro, The Martial Arts Hero: Tailman. Sato, The Sweets Hero: Sugarman. Ashido came back up with the new name Pinky. It was fun seeing everyone coming up with their names and Midnight seemed to be approving everyones. Kaminari came up next, The Stungun Hero: Chargebolt. Hagakure, The Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl. Momo, The Everything Hero: Creati. Todoroki ended up using his first name, Shoto.

I walked up to the front after him and presented my name. I glanced at Shota who was looking at me with half open eyes. I cleared my throat and flipped my board around, "My hero name is the same as my quirk, Elemental. It was the only suitable name I could think of."

"That's excellent! Nothing wrong with using your quirk name for your hero name," Midnight said encouragingly. I smiled and quickly went back to my seat.

Tokoyami went after me, The Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi. Koda didn't say anything but he showed his board, The Petting Hero, Anima. Bakugo came up with his ever angry eyes, King Explosion Murder. Midnight made him choose again. Uraraka came after him with a cute name, Uravity.

"Looks like just Midoriya, Iida, and Bakugo are left," Midnight said surveying the room. Iida came up and showed his name, Tenya. "You are using your first name as well?" She asked and Iida nodded.

Finally Midoriya came up with his name, we were surprised by his choice but he spoke up. "I used to hate this name as a kid, but someone saw it in a different light and now I like it. So this will be my hero name, Deku." He looked confident and content with his choice.

Bakugo came up again with the name, Lord Explosion Murder but that was still no good. He would have to think of a better one outside of class. Shota came up and explained that our internships would begin in a week. We had two days to submit our choices for which agencies we wanted to go to. As he walked around the class handing out the lists he gave me and Todoroki packets. This was going to take me forever to look through all the names and find an agency.

After class, I started to flip through my packet. "So where are you thinking about going?" I asked as Uraraka came up to Midoriya and I.

"I wanna go to the Battle Hero: Gunhead's agency," Uraraka said throwing a punch in the air.

"I thought you wanted to be a rescue hero like Thirteen," Midoriya said tilting his head up at her.

"I mean eventually sure, but my match with Bakugo got me thinking that I should learn to fight," Uraraka said. "Besides it could open more doors for me in the future."

"That's a good point," I said skimming a page. "A good hero should be able to do multiple things."

"You say that a lot don't you?" Uraraka laughed.

"Do I?" I blinked at her, "I guess it's cause of Shota. Where are you going Midoriya?"

He began muttering about where he should go depending on different styles and agencies. Once he got going like this it was hard to get him to stop. So instead Uraraka and I just shrugged and laughed.

"Do you know where you wanna go Todoroki?" I asked, he too was skimming his huge packet.

"I'm thinking about going with my dad's agency," Todoroki said not taking his eyes off his paper.

"That's surprising," I said baffled for words. I turned the page and a name jumped out at me. I stood up so fast my chair nearly fell over. "I'll be back!" I said as I rushed out of the room.

In the hallway I almost ran right into All Might who looked like he had a lot on his mind so I avoided his path. I nearly ran to the teacher's office and knocked on the door several times before Shota opened it. "Kanna, you don't have to wait for me to go home."

"Huh? No I'm not here for that, I mean if you wanna go home together I don't mind waiting but I need to talk to you about something else," I said rapidly.

"Alright," Shota said leading me into the office. "What do you need?"

"Is this a real offer?" I asked holding up the packet.

"They are all real offers, you need to be more specific," Shota said crossing his arms.

"This one says it's from Endeavor's agency!" I said pointing at the middle of the page.

"Oh yea him and a few other big time heroes sent you offers," Shota said casually.

"Wait more big heroes sent me offers?!" I nearly dropped the packet before flipping through the pages quickly. Four heroes from the top ten sent me offers, Gang Orca, Edgeshot, Hawks, and Endeavor. I had to sit down from the rush. "Okay, but why?"

"They are clearly interested in you," Shota said sitting next to me.

"Did you put in a good word or something?" I asked trying to find a reasonable explanation as to why the numbers 10, 5, 3, and 2 ranked heroes wanted me to work with them.

"Not at all, this is all you," Shota grinned. "You were very impressive in the festival. So what are you going to do?"

"I don't know," I said tapping my fingers together. "They all could help me greatly."

"Yes they can," Shota agreed. "Looks like you have a lot to think about."

"Yea," I said quickly writing down the four names. "I'm gonna go get my things and go home."

"Alright," Shota nodded as I left the office.

The classroom was empty when I grabbed my things. I walked out into the hall and saw Midoriya coming from another room. I waved to him and waited for him to catch up. "I figured you would have left by now," I said keeping pace with him.

"I got an offer," Midoriya said. "From someone named Gran Torino."

"That's awesome! I hope they help you," I said excitedly.

"Me too," Midoriya said holding the door open for me. "Have you narrowed down your choices yet?"

"Yea, to four names," I said, handing him the list.

"Woah!" Midoriya exclaimed before going on about each hero. "Do you know where you wanna go with?"

"Nope," I shook my head. "Which would you pick?"

"Hmm, I guess I would have to take each one into account, then figure out how not only their quirk would help but also their style in general. Not to mention the ranks of each one are impressive," he began to mutter, typical Midoriya.

"Uhm, okay well maybe I'll just make a pros and cons list?" I said nervously.

"Wait, why don't you have Mr. Aizawa help you?" Midoriya said coming out of his mutter cloud.

"I dunno, I guess I want it to be my choice?" I tapped my chin. "Anyway I'll see you in class tomorrow."

"See you," Midoriya waved and we went our separate ways.

That night I paced my room trying to make a decision. I narrowed it down between Endeavor and Edgeshot. I could use more work on my fire quirk and gaining more fighting experience in general would be beneficial. The choice was still difficult to make.

"Why are you still up?" Shota asked from the doorway. "You should be in bed."

"I know, I'm just struggling to decide, I have it narrowed down to these two but I can't decide which to go with," I explained my situation.

"Okay well how about this, what rank are you aiming for when you become a pro?" Shota asked.

"Well I'd like to be number one one day," I answered immediately.

"There you go, I think you know which one you will choose," Shota said as he went into the hall. "Good night."

"Night," I said looking down at the sheet. He was right, I did know which agency I wanted. I wrote down my first choice and headed to bed.

A week passed and we were at the train station heading to our perspective agencies. "Remember, wearing your costumes in public is prohibited without permission, but don't lose them. Also be on your best behavior while you are there, you represent UA." Shota said. "Kanna come here for a moment."

"Sure," I nodded as Midoriya went off to talk to Iida. "What's up?"

"You will be okay right?" Shota said with slight concern. "You have your medicine right?"

"Yep, I have everything I need," I nodded. "I'll be fine."

"Call me if you need me okay?" Shota said giving me a pat on the head. "Learn as much as you can too."

"I will," I gave him a hug and smiled brightly up at him before going off to get on my train. "Hey Todoroki!" I called to him.

"Hey, Shichi," He said looking down at me. "Where are you going?"

"I'm actually going to Endeavor's agency too," I said slightly flushed. "He sent me an offer."

"Oh I see," Todoroki blinked in surprise. "In that case do you want to sit with me?"

"Sure!" I nodded as we boarded the train. We sat down across from each other and he rested his head on his hand.

"So have you talked to Iida?" Todoroki asked me as the train started moving.

"In general yes, but not about what happened," I replied. I heard about his brother being attacked by the Hero Killer: Stain and how he was still on the loose. "He took a job in Hosu, makes me wonder why."

"I was wondering the same thing too," Todoroki said glancing out the window. "Why did you choose my dad's agency?"

"Why did you?" I shot back, I didn't mean for it to come out as harsh as it did.

"While I don't forgive him, and I may still even hate him, he is the number two hero. I want to see what it takes to get there," Todoroki explained.

"That's a reasonable explanation," I leaned back against the seat. "I wanna work on my fire quirk and I too wanna be at the top. You showed me that I still can't regulate my flames properly, but maybe your father can show me how."

When we reached Endeavor's agency Todoroki and I were brought into his office. I tried to control my nerves as some of the assistants took our things to the rooms we would be staying in, but it was hard. Endeavor was the number two hero but he was also very intimidating. We were ushered into the office where he was waiting, sitting behind a large desk. Todoroki and I sat quietly in the two chairs in front of him.

"Shoto, I am glad that you have decided to forget your little rebellion and come to my agency," Endeavor said. Todoroki remained silent but I could tell he was grinding his teeth. "Kanna Shichi, welcome to my agency."

"Thank you for sending me the offer," I said trying to find the right words. "I hope to learn from you as much as I can."

"Yes, I will help train you," Endeavor pulled out a folder from a drawer. "I reviewed your file, specifically the notes from that lab."

I stiffened when he mentioned the lab notes, "y-you did?" I stammered unsure how to respond.

"Have you read these?" Endeavor asked holding up the papers.

I shook my head, "I have no interest in reading them. I remember everything they did to me."

"I see," Endeavor said skimming over one of the pages. "Is it true they whipped you as a form of punishment?"

I could feel Todoroki's gaze on me and I bit my lip, he was going to find out everything. "Yes, they did."

"It seems they were using cruelty as a way to control you," Endeavor said tapping the table. "It's good that you were saved after you destroyed the building. Were you really the only survivor?"

"Yes," I said shortly trying to shrink down into my chair.

"They seemed to think that you would surpass All Might some day," Endeavor said staring at me with those piercing blue eyes. "Beating you to near death probably wasn't a good way of achieving that. Did you ever see any other subjects? I'm assuming there were others since they branded you number seven."

"That's enough," Todoroki said through his teeth. "Can't you see this is making her uncomfortable? You sent her an offer to train here, not to make her relive whatever horrors she may have faced."

"You're right, Shoto," Endeavor cleared his throat. "You do have a powerful quirk, Ms. Shichi, it's a shame they mistreated you the way they did." I didn't know what to say so I just gave a short nod. "You should learn to embrace your past, it won't stay hidden forever, especially if you want to be a pro."

"I know that," I said softly. I kept my eyes down, I didn't want them to think I was weak if I cried in front of them.

"Go ahead and get situated and change into your training clothes," Endeavor said. "I want to test both of your abilities. Shoto, you've started using your left side but you need more work with it. As for you Shichi I want to test all four of your quirks."

"Okay," I said taking a shaky breath. He dismissed us and we went to the rooms they provided for us. I didn't say anything to Todoroki as I entered my room. As soon as the door closed I collapsed on the ground and tears began falling out of my eyes. I felt pathetic, but they wouldn't stop. Of course he would have looked into me, of course he would want to know if I was a danger.

I pulled on my gym clothes and tied my hair up in a ponytail. As I was wiping my face a knock at my door caught my attention. I opened it and saw Todoroki standing in the hall. "Can I come in?" He asked glancing at my eyes.

"Sure," I said moving out of the way for him. "What sort of training do you think we will do?"

"I'm sorry about him," Todoroki said ignoring my question. "It was out of line for him to say those things to you."

"I think he was trying to figure out how much of a burden I would be," I said trying to find logic in his actions.

"You said you were burned in a lab accident," Todoroki shook his head causing his red and white bangs to sway over his eyes. "You spent your life as a test subject yet you are so cheerful, you should hate the world and be full of anger but you aren't."

I was surprised by his statement, "I have no reason to seek revenge, the ones who hurt me aren't around anymore. Besides, I've been given a chance at life, so I try and live moving forward."

"You are so strong," Todoroki said. "I wish I had your strength."

"It's not really strength," I said, tugging on the hem of my shirt. "Come on, we should get on with our training."

"You're right," Todoroki hesitated for a moment. "If you ever want to talk about it, you can."

"Thanks," I said, giving him a half smile. We headed over to the training area where Endeavor was waiting.

He had Todoroki work on his left side while he asked me a bunch of questions about my quirk. Things like if I could control metal or ice, if I could merge my elements, things like that. He did teach me to rapidly heat up my water to create steam. This would help lower my opponent's visibility. He showed me some ways to improve my fire as well, controlling it and raising and lowering the temperature. He had Todoroki and I train together in combat the next day, him trying to control his left side better while I tried to raise my heat against his ice. Both of us were exhausted by the end of the session.

On the third day Endeavor had us grab our costumes, "we are heading out to Hosu. Any guess why?"

"You are going after the Hero Killer right?" I asked after a moment.

"That's correct," Endeavor said. "His pattern shows that he will make another attack there before moving on. This will be your chance to see a pro at work. You chose your alias as Elemental correct?"

"Yes, sir," I nodded gripping my suitcase.

"Alright, Shoto, Elemental, let's head out!" Endeavor said and his side-kicks began scurrying around preparing for our departure.

It was evening when we reached Hosu. We quickly changed into our hero costumes and we began patrolling. As we walked behind Endeavor explosions went off in the distance, a villain attack. We could hear panicked screams and fire coming from the buildings. We hurried after him, this would be our opportunity. Suddenly both Todoroki and I's phones went off. We checked and it was a message from Midoriya with just his location.

"That's odd," I said furrowing my eyebrows.

"Shoto, Elemental now I will show you how a pro really works!" Endeavor said with determination. "Put your damn phones away and pay attention!"

"Something is wrong," I said, glancing between Todoroki and Endeavor. "Midoriya wouldn't send a vague message like this."

"I agree, let's go," Todoroki said taking off running.

"Where the hell are you two going?!" Endeavor called after us.

"When you are done send pros to an alley at 4-2-10 Ekou street!" Todoroki yelled over his shoulder. "I think my friend needs help."

As we ran I pulled my goggles on over my eyes, I didn't know what was happening but I had a bad feeling. We rounded the corner and saw both Iida and Midoriya on the ground, bleeding. A pro hero was slumped up against the wall and between the three of them was the Hero Killer, Stain.
