100 Spots

I watched as Inasa walked off with his class. He seemed like a carefree person but if Shota was warning us about him then it was better to heed his advice. "Yoarashi was placed in your grade at UA under special recommendation," Shota said. "His top grades were enough to open the doors for him but for some reason he decided not to join."

"Woah so he's a first year with a recommendation and top grades?" Midoriya repeated amazed.

"He must be stronger than Todoroki," Kaminari said.

"If he likes UA so much then why didn't he enroll?" Sero asked.

"Yeah that's just weird," Ashido agreed.

"Weird or not, he's the real deal. Make sure you keep an eye on him," Shota said.

"Eraser is that you?" A familiar voice called out. I looked over and saw Ms. Joke approaching us. Shota stiffened as she chuckled. "It's been awhile! I saw you on TV and at the sports festival but it's been too long since we've seen each other face to face! Let's get married!"

"No thanks," Shota said flatly, making me laugh.

"Kanna!" Ms. Joke ran over and gave me a hug. "Look how much you've grown! You are even more cute than before!"

"Do you know her?" Katsuki asked.

Ms. Joke looked at him then back to me, "is this your boyfriend?"

"No!" Katsuki and I both said at the same time.

"Leave her alone, Joke," Shota sighed.

"Kanna tell Eraser to marry me already," Ms. Joke pouted.

"Uhm, I don't wanna be involved in this," I laughed nervously as she finally let me go.

"I see you are the same pain in the neck as always," Shota said.

"I know you!" Midoriya exclaimed. "You're the smile hero: Ms. Joke. Your quirk is called Outburst! You can force those around you to start laughing, slowing their movements and thinking. Your fights are always filled with insanity!"

"That's right!" Ms. Joke laughed. "That's why you should marry me already! Kanna would finally have a mom and we could build a household where the laughs never stop!"

"Nothing about that sounds happy," Shota groaned. "Plus she doesn't need a mom, she has me."

"Are you two friends?" Tsu asked.

"Our agencies used to be close. I'd save him a few times and he'd save me," Ms. Joke said. "That's when we fell in love!"

"No we didn't," Shota said. "Is your school here too?"

"Yep!" She waved for her students to come over. "This is class 2-2 of Ketsubutsu Academy."

A boy with wavy black hair came up and grabbed Midoriya's hands. "Hi I'm Shindo!" He began to go around the other students introducing himself. "UA has had it kinda rough this year but you all still have your hearts set on becoming heroes. I believe heroes need that kind of fortitude!"

"He's kinda cool," Jiro said.

"Oh here is Bakugo and Shichi!" Shindo said as he walked up to us. He took my hand in his. "You two were at the heart of the whole Kamino mess. Also with everyone finding out your history, you are still trying to be a hero. You both really have the strongest wills of all. I'm glad I get to face people of your caliber." He went in to shake Katsuki's hand but he knocked it away.

"Cut the crap," Katsuki frowned. "Talk all you want but your face says different."

"Knock it off," Kirishima said, chastising Katsuki. "Sorry about him, he can be rude sometimes."

"It's fine," Shindo smiled. Katsuki was right he had a look in his eyes that said he wanted to crush us.

"Can I have your autograph?" A girl asked Todoroki. For some reason a hint of jealousy appeared in my chest and I quickly shoved it away. "I thought you were so cool in the sports festival!" She continued.

"Stop wasting time and go change into your costumes," Shota said breaking their attention. "The info section is about to start.

After we changed we went into the main waiting area. The room was packed with other students. At the front was a stage with a screen and a podium. A tired looking man made his way onto the stage and everyone quieted down. "You are all here for the provisional License Exam. My name is Mera, I'm with the heroes public safety commission. We've been so short staffed, I'm so tired."

"I'll explain the exam now," Mera groaned. "All 1,540 examinees present will be competing in a massive free-for-all exercise. Simple enough right? Today's society is saturated with heroes and ever since Stain was captured plenty of people have raised doubts about the role heroes should play. The title of hero shouldn't be given out to those seeking reward but should be earned through tireless self- sacrifice. Motivations aside, telling those who risk their lives for others to ask for nothing in return would be rather harsh, especially in modern society. So whether it's done for compensation or dedication to the cause, we have no shortage of heroes working to save lives and put villains away. Nowadays the amount of time it takes to resolve any given incident is incredibly short. Those who earn their licenses will be confronting such situations at a breakneck pace. Those who can't keep up are doomed to fail. This is why we will be testing you on speed. Only the first hundred examinees to meet the requirements will pass."

"That's not even close to half!" Someone called out.

"Society is rarely kind, so there's no use relying on luck," Mera said. "The passing requirements involve these three targets," he said as a display came up behind him. "Place them anywhere on the body as long as they are exposed. This means no soles of feet or armpits. You will each carry six balls as well. The targets are rigged to light up only when struck by a ball. You will be disqualified the instant all three targets are lit. To pass you must defeat two other students. That's all for the rules. We will be handing out targets and balls once the place opens up."

"Opens up?" I asked aloud.

"The exam will begin one minute after all examinees are fully equipped." The room suddenly opened up revealing a huge arena. "We have every type of landscape available so you should be able to find areas suited to you. Make sure to make the best use of your talents."

I placed my targets on my body, one on my shoulder, hip, and chest. I figured I would be able to defend these areas the best. Our class began running together once the exam started. We figured that most schools would try and stick together.

"We should all stick together and work as a group!" Midoriya said.

"Pass," Katsuki said as he walked off.

"Wait up!" Kirishima said chasing after him.

Todoroki began to go off on his own too. "I can't make good use of my quirk if we are all bunched up."

"I'll go with him," I said trotting after him.

"You don't have to," Todoroki said as we ran towards an industrial area.

"I don't mind, my quirk does well with yours," I said blushing slightly.

'You like him don't you?' Katsuki's words rang in my mind. I felt my face flush again and I tried to shake it off.

"What's wrong?" Todoroki asked, clearly noticing.

"Nothing!" I exclaimed. "Let's just focus on this test."

"Yeah," Todoroki nodded.

We ran through the area only to be stopped by a group. They were standing on top of a rooftop, looking down at us. "So we have Shoto Todoroki and Kanna Shichi." They were dressed as ninjas but each one was a different color.

"It'll be so nice to crush you both," the red ninja said. In his hands were nails and nuts.

Todoroki sent a blast of ice, freezing them to the roof. I sent a blast of fire and two jumped forward with water. "That won't work!" I said taking control of it. I channeled the water back at them, knocking them down.

"Shichi, you with your elemental powers, but can you stop this?" The red ninja threw a nut making it grow in size.

"Watch out!" Todoroki shouted jumping in front of me, making a wall of ice. The nut hit, shattering the ice.

I sent a burst of air at them only to have a nail tossed in my direction. I narrowly dodged it and it smashed into the ice. He threw another nut and Todoroki countered it with fire.

"I may not have been able to melt it but it should have done something!" Todoroki said as the nut skidded passed us.

"My tools are made of tungsten. It has a very high melting point!" He laughed. "You won't be able to beat us!"

The water user made for another attack and I sent a burst of flame making the water explode in steam. I grabbed Todoroki by the hand and we ran. "We need a new plan." I said.

"I think I know a way!" Todoroki said. "Fly up into the air and I'll make a distraction. You attack and I'll freeze them in place."

"Okay!" I nodded and pulled my glider off my hip. I hit the button to expand it. I jumped up and let the glider carry me up. I followed Todoroki to where he set a sign on fire. The ninjas saw this and fell for it.

"Surround them!" The red one called out.

"Where are they?" A green ninja asked as they ran up.

"It's a trick!" The blue one shouted.

"AERIAL BURST!" I shouted swinging my glider pole down. The air shot out knocking them back and Todoroki froze them in place.

"Since when can you fly?" One of them asked as I pulled out a ball.

"It's new," I said as I tapped all three of his targets.

Todoroki and I eliminated them all, causing our targets to flash blue. "You have passed! Please proceed to the reception room!" The targets spoke out.

"We make a pretty good team," Todoroki said as we walked. "You are getting much better at gliding."

"Thanks," I blushed.

"I still can't use both sides at the same time," Todoroki said. "When you want to use two elements or both sides how do you do it?"

I thought about it for a moment, "I'm not sure. It's something I've always been able to do. At the lab they made me do extensive training so maybe that's it."

"Oh, I guess that makes sense," Todoroki said looking at his hands. "I guess I just need more training."

When we entered the waiting room there were already a number of students who had passed. Todoroki and I looked around but we were the first ones in our class. Todoroki and I sat down away from the others.

"So I noticed you and Bakugo have become closer," Todoroki said casually.

"Oh yeah, Katsuki and I have kinda become friends," I laughed nervously.

"You're calling him by his first name?" Todoroki seemed surprised.

"Uhm, he asked me to," I blushed. Now wasn't the time to tell him how I felt. Todoroki didn't say anything else but he just looked off into the room.

I saw Inasa talking to another student. He glanced our way and glared at Todoroki. "Huh?" Todoroki said.

"I'll go see if anyone else in our class is here yet," I said. He gave a short nod and before I left I turned to face him, "there's nothing going on with Katsuki and I."

"Okay?" Todoroki raised an eyebrow at me.

"I just wanted you to know that," I stammered.

I walked off feeling flustered. I couldn't find anyone I recognized and as I was walking I bumped into someone. "I'm so sorry!" I looked up and saw Inasa looking down at me.

"You're Kanna Shichi!" He said eagerly. "You are an air user!"

"Yep, your name is Inasa right?" I felt slightly embarrassed.

"Oh you wanna go straight to using first names?" He laughed. "Can I call you Kanna?"

"Yeah sure," I scratched my cheek.

"Awesome!" Inasa boomed. "We should get together sometime! I freakin love other air users!"

"Sure, maybe we can learn something from each other," I nodded. His enthusiasm was something to admire. I had never met anyone like him, he would end up as a likeable hero.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Midoriya, Sero, and Uraraka walk in. I gave Inasa a quick goodbye and ran over to my friends. "You guys passed too!" I said.

"Yep! Did anything exciting happen with you and Todoroki?" Sero asked me.

"No why?" I asked giving him a look. Did Katsuki tell him something.

"Something weird happened to Midoriya," Sero grinned.

"Shut up! It wasn't like that!" Midoriya waved his arms frantically.

"What happened?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Nothing!" Midoriya said turning bright red.

"Snowflake!" Katsuki yelled, catching my attention. I quickly walked over to him. "So you and IcyHot passed?"

"Clearly," I laughed. "Seems you did as well."

"Of course I did!" Katsuki said. "Kirishima and Kaminari helped too I guess."

It wasn't long until they gave the call that all 100 spots had been filled. I looked around and saw that everyone in my class had passed. "Will everyone please look at the screen." A voice announced.

"That's the arena!" I heard someone say.

Suddenly the field began to explode. The buildings crumbled and the terrain broke apart. "For round two, examinees will venture into the ruins as bystanders and prove your worth when it comes to rescuing innocent victims! You won't be acting as civilians but as those who have hypothetically earned your provisional hero licenses. You will be tested on how well you respond in rescue situations."

"There are old people and children!" Midoriya pointed at the screen.

"Everyone here is a highly trained professional. Please welcome the good people of the Help Us Company. They will be feigning injuries all across the field and it's up to you to rescue them. You will be scored on how well you perform these rescues. Those who attain the required amount of points at the end will pass. We will begin in 10 minutes!" They explained.

Katsuki, Kirishima, and I were waiting, chatting casually. "Looks like Shiketsu is coming over here," Kirishima said. I looked over to see a kid covered in fur, Inasa, and a couple other students coming over.

"Excuse me, Bakugo," the fur guy said. "Did you face a shifty eyed guy named Shishikura?"

"Yeah, I crushed him," Katsuki said.

"I see, he must have been terribly rude to you. I worried you might have been offended," fur guy said. "You see he has a bad habit of trying to force his values on others. He couldn't contain himself after seeing someone as notorious as yourself. We want to build a good relationship with UA so please accept our apology."

"Sure," Katsuki shrugged.

"Hey crew-cut," Todoroki said to Inasa. "Have I done something to offend you?"

"Huh?" Inasa turned to face him. "Nah, it's because you are Endeavor's son. I hate all of you. You've changed a lot since then but your eyes are just like his." With that Inasa went back to his classmates.

"Do you know him?" I asked Todoroki.

"I-I'm not sure," Todoroki said.

Suddenly the anteroom began to open up. "Terrorists have launched a massive attack! There's wide scale destruction throughout the city! Buildings are collapsing and people are hurt! With most of the roads out of commission, rescue and relief squads are having a hard time reaching the scene. Until they arrive it's up to the heroes to take charge and rescue civilians. Save every life you can!" With that our rescue exam had started.
