CHAPTER TWELVE

On the way to Homecoming, Izzy felt all the nerves and anxiety come back. She was fidgeting with one of the rings she wore, her hands laid on her lap. She was alone in a car with a boy she really liked, and while she was excited, she was also a bundle of nerves. She was trying to distract herself from her nerves, and she tried focusing on the music playing on the radio, but it didn't help.

"Nervous?" Harley's voice brought her out of her thoughts, and she jumped, turning her head to look at him.

"W-What? No, why would I be nervous?" She stuttered, shaking her head and smiling nervously. "I'm not nervous, no. Why would I be nervous?" She babbled, laughing awkwardly and looking out the window, avoiding his eyes.

Harley chuckles and reaches over, placing his hand on her thigh and giving it a gentle squeeze. "It's okay, Iz. You're allowed to be nervous." He said, his voice soothing and reassuring. "I'm a little nervous too."

She turned back to him, and saw him give her a shy smile. She could see a light blush on his cheeks, and she was glad to know she wasn't the only one who was nervous. "Really? You don't look it. You look really confident." She admits, biting her lower lip and looking at him. "Kinda jealous with how confident you seem."

Harley shrugs, grinning. "Eh, it's an act. I'm just as nervous as you. Maybe more." He confesses, and she gives him a small smile, feeling slightly better knowing she wasn't the only nervous one. "Trust me. On the inside, I'm freaking out. Like, what if I trip and fall? What if I make a fool of myself? What if I mess up and say something stupid or embarrassing? What if-"

"Okay, we get it. You're nervous too." She cut him off, giggling softly. Harley chuckled and nodded.

"Exactly." He said, grinning. "But I'm with you, and you're pretty great so I think I'll be fine." He said, his smile turning softer, and the butterflies in her stomach fluttered. "Plus, I don't think there's anything more embarrassing or more nerve-wracking than meeting your date's older brothers. I mean, I've met them before, but wow they can be intimidating when they want to be."

She giggles, nodding. "Yeah, I guess so. My brothers can be a bit much sometimes. Sorry about that. I told them not to be intimidating, but they are stubborn."

"Eh, it's fine. They just care about you and are looking out for you. Can't blame them." Harley said, his hand still on her thigh and his thumb brushing back and forth. "I just hope they won't kill me." He added jokingly.

"Oh, don't worry. If they try to, I'll protect you." Izzy reassured him, a smirk on her lips.

Harley raises an eyebrow, amused and curious. "Oh yeah? You're going to protect me?"

Izzy nods, "Yep. Don't worry, I'm tougher than I look. Plus I know their weaknesses." She added with a smirk, winking at him.

Harley laughs, shaking his head and grinning at. "Okay, noted. I feel safe now. Thanks."

Izzy chuckled, her cheeks warm and flushed. She looks out the window again, seeing they were close to the dance. Her stomach twisted with nerves, but she tried her best to ignore them. She wanted to enjoy herself, and she knew she would, especially with Harley by her side.

Once they arrive, Harley parked the car, but he didn't get out. He unbuckled and turned to her, admiring her for a moment. The light of the moon reflected off her brown curls and eyes, and he swore he had never seen a more beautiful sight. "You look stunning."

Izzy smiles, her cheeks turning a lovely shade of pink. "You look very handsome yourself." She returned the compliment, her heart pounding in her chest and butterflies in her stomach. She felt a little dizzy and giddy. She wondered if it was because of the dance, the music, the nerves, or him. Probably a combination of everything.

Harley returns the smile, then he opens the car door and got out. He closes the door and walks over to her side while she unbuckles. He opens the door for her, holding his hand out for her. "May I escort you to the dance, my lady?"

She giggles and nods, taking his hand. "You may."

The two then walk hand-in-hand to the school, entering the dance. There were already a few people there, and they could hear the music from outside. Once inside, they headed straight for the gym where the dance was being held. When they walked in, they were met with a large crowd of students, a variety of decorations, and loud music.

Izzy's eyes lit up, taking it all in. "Wow, this looks so cool." She commented, looking around. She noticed Ned and Michelle off to the side along with Vivian and her date. When they noticed her, they all waved at her and smiled. Even Michelle who gave her a small smile and a nod. She smiled back at her friends and gave them a quick wave before turning back to Harley.

"Yeah, it does. Though, not as cool as you." He teased, grinning at her.

"Stop it." She blushed, lightly shoving him and smiling bashfully.

"Never." He said, his eyes soft and shining with affection. Izzy's heart skipped a beat, and the two just stood there, gazing into each other's eyes. They were both aware of their close proximity and how easy it would be to lean forward and kiss.

"Oh my gosh, you guys are so gross." Vivian's voice broke them out of their trance, and they both blushes, taking a step back. "Get a room." She teases, smirking at them. "Hi, guys. Love the fact you two are matching. But anyway, wanted to introduce my date to you guys, this is..." She started rambling about her date, and Izzy listened intently, though she did notice Harley wasn't paying attention and was instead staring at her. She ignored him, focusing on her friend and her date.

"Viv, you're rambling again." Her date named Zaiden spoke up, looking at her with amusement and a fond smile.

"Oh, oops. Sorry." Vivian said, blushing. "I ramble when I'm nervous. Not that I'm nervous, I just..." Her blush grew when he squeezed her hand and brought it up to kiss the back of it. Izzy smiled at her friend, happy that she found someone who was clearly interested in her.

"You're cute when you ramble." Zaiden complimented her, and Izzy swore Vivian looked like a tomato.

"T-Thanks." The blonde stutters, smiling shyly at her. "You're always cute."

"Okay, well, we're going to leave you two alone now. It was nice to meet you Zaiden." Izzy interrupted them before things got even more embarrassing and awkward. She grabbed Harley's hand, dragging him away.

"See ya later." Harley called out, waving at them.

Once they were a safe distance away, Izzy stops, turning to face him with an apologetic expression. "Sorry about that. Vivian gets a little carried away when she talks. And rambles." She explained, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Hey, it's fine." Harley reassures her, shrugging. "I'm used to it. So, what do you want to do?" He asked her, a grin forming on his lips. He began listing things off they could do first, but her gaze is drawn to the entrance to the gym. Peter walked into the gym, dressed in a black suit and tie. His hair was neatly brushed back and he looked very handsome. Her eyes widen, shocked to see him here.

Did he get a date and didn't let her know? Or maybe he's here without a date. And to be fair she forgot to mention she was going with Harley. She had just been so nervous about it that she didn't think about it. She couldn't help but keep staring at Peter. She never seen him in a suit before, and the sight of him dressed so nicely took her breath away. He was so handsome. But she noticed he looked pale, he looked nervous and scared which made her furrow her eyebrows. She watched him walk over to Liz, figuring she was his date. She wasn't surprised, she had assumed he had a crush on her and he did always seem a little flustered and nervous around her.

She frowned after seeing Peter suddenly running out of the gym. Was it something hero related? She hoped not. He shouldn't be doing that, not tonight. She was worried, he didn't have his suit with him. She should go and check on him. Make sure he was okay.

"Isabela, are you okay?" Harley's voice made her blink and break out of her thoughts.

"Oh, yeah. I-I am, but I suddenly don't really feel good so I'm gonna head to the bathroom, I'm sorry." Was all she said before she started to leave the gym, missing the confused and worried look on Harley's face.

She rushes to the bathroom, quickly walking over to the sink. She grips the edge, breathing heavily. "Okay, should I go after him or no?" She asked herself, frowning. She didn't want him to get hurt. What if he got hurt and no one was there to help him? He shouldn't go out there alone. That made her realize her decision. She was going after him. Thanks to her super speed, she made it back home and managed to sneak into her bedroom. Now the hard part was trying to hack into the lock her uncle had on her hideout to get to her suit. She hacked into her laptop, her fingers flying over the keys. She had to make it quick.

She heard the sound of footsteps and her brothers' voices outside her door. Crap. Did they notice she snuck back in? She continued to type, ignoring the panic growing inside of her. She had to hurry before they realized she was there. It took her awhile, but she let out a quiet cheer when she heard the door unlock. She put her laptop aside and rushed inside her hideout, the door closing behind her.

She immediately sped to where her backup suit was kept. Her uncle still had her watch that allowed the suit to appear and reappear so she would need a different suit. This suit was recently newly made and she hadn't wore it yet. She hoped it would work. Like her main suit, this new suit was attached to something, but instead of a watch, this was a ring. She pressed the button on the side, and soon her suit was covering her body, making her grin. It worked! She took a moment to admire the suit, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. The suit fit perfectly, and it felt like a second skin, giving her the confidence she needed to help Peter.

"Hello, Izzy." Eve's voice greets her. "Did your uncle finally let you use your suit again?"

"Uh, not exactly." She answers, looking at her reflection and smiling. It felt good to be wearing one of her suits again. "But, it doesn't matter. Listen, there's an emergency and I have to go." She hurriedly explained, already feeling the adrenaline pumping through her veins.

"Izzy, are you sure this is a good idea?" Eve asks. "You haven't used this suit before, and your uncle might—"

"I don't have time to argue, Eve. Peter might be in trouble, and I can't just stand by and do nothing." Izzy interrupted, determination shining in her eyes. She knew Eve was just looking out for her, but Peter was her friend, and she couldn't forgive herself if something happened to him while she hesitated.

"Okay, but please be careful," Eve responds. "I'll be here if you need anything. Good luck."

"Thanks, I'm gonna need it." She mutters to herself. She rushed back to the school, finding Peter in the parking lot near the parked buses in a handmade Spider-Man suit he most likely made. It was better than nothing. She was surprised to see a guy webbed to a bus and Ned holding the web shooters. "Wow. Great job, Ned."

Ned grins at her. "Thanks." He gasps at seeing her new suit. "No way, is that the new suit you've been working on? The design you showed me and Peter before?"

"That's the one." Izzy nodded, grinning back at him.

"It looks so good." Ned gushed. He always admired her work when it came to her tech.

"Thanks." Izzy shared a smile with him, appreciating his compliment.

"Izzy!" Peter says with surprise, rushing over to her and Ned. He didn't expect for her to come help. "You looked really pretty, by the way." He added, suddenly shy and embarrassed.

Izzy was surprised when she suddenly felt flustered, a shy smile forming on her lips. "Thanks, you looked really handsome." When Ned coughed, she chuckles and smiles at him. "So do you Ned. So, what's going on?"

"Guys, the guy with the wings is Liz's dad." Peter revealed.

"No way." Izzy gaped at him, shaking her head.

"What?" Ned gasped.

"I know. Izzy, we gotta tell Mr. Stark." Peter tells Izzy and turns to Ned. "Call Happy Hogan. He's Mr. Stark's head of security. And, uh, get a computer to track my phone for me. Izzy," He glances at Izzy. "Izzy, I don't want you to miss Homecoming, okay? And I don't want you to get hurt. I'll be fine." He told her, trying to be reassuring. He didn't want her to get involved. He felt like he dragged her into this. Hearing she thought he looked handsome made him feel warm and happy, and he had a big grin on his face. But he knew this was dangerous and didn't want her to get hurt. He didn't want her to give up going to Homecoming because of him.

"If you think I'm gonna stay then you're stupid. I obviously wanna be unsafe with you." Izzy's words were filled with determination and a hint of playful defiance. Peter's eyes widened slightly, taken aback by her insistence on helping him. She looked so passionate and fierce. And he had to admit, it was really attractive. Wait, he shouldn't be thinking about her like that. Peter shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.

"Alright, alright, I get it. Just...Be careful." Peter gave in, knowing there was no point in arguing with her. He couldn't deny the warm, fuzzy feeling he felt as he gazed into her eyes, which were full of fire and a strong sense of loyalty. They softened when he finally agreed. Her smile made his heart skip a beat, and he couldn't help but return it. He felt Ned elbow him and he looked at his best friend. Ned had a teasing grin on his face, and Peter blushed, realizing he had been staring at Izzy for a little bit too long. Peter cleared his throat and looked away, trying to hide his embarrassment. He was glad his mask covered his blushing face.

"Let's get out of here. Hold onto me like we did before, we will get to them faster." She offered, remembering the last time they had to go fast like that and that it helped.

"Oh, right. Good idea." He nodded, wrapping his arms around her tightly and ignoring the way his heart skipped a beat at the sudden close proximity. felt the heat of her body against his and couldn't help but notice how perfect the fit of their embrace felt. The closeness made him both excited and anxious. He steadied himself, focusing on their mission.

"Will you guys be okay?" Ned called out worriedly.

"We'll be fine!" Izzy assured him.

"Hurry, we gotta catch him before he leaves town!" Peter called out before Izzy started running.

As Izzy was running, Peter called Ned with her phone she still somehow had with her. Peter put the call on speaker, asking Ned to track his phone for him that he left in Liz's dad car. Izzy was surprised about that and was impressed and proud of him. Ned added that he was working on getting contact with Happy. And eventually Liz's dad stopped somewhere, surprising Peter, who admitted Liz's dad said he was going out of town. But instead it said he was at an old industrial park in Brooklyn.

"Oh, I reached Mr. Happy," Ned confesses. "Don't think he likes you, by the way. It sounded like he was catching a flight. He said something about taking off in nine minutes."

Peter shares a surprised look with Izzy at that news. "What?" He gasped.

"He was surrounded by a bunch of boxes." Ned added.

"Boxes?" Peter repeats, realizing what today was. "It's moving day."

"Oh, crap. That's right." Izzy's eyes widened in realization. They were moving the Avengers compound upstate.

"He's gonna rob that plane!" Peter realizes, speaking in a panicked voice. "Izzy, we gotta stop him!"

"Okay, Peter, hold on tight. I added an option in my suit to make me even go faster than this. I've never tried it yet. Don't scream in my ear, please." She requested nervously. She hoped this option would work and not malfunction. She pressed a button, and suddenly Peter felt like he got whiplashed from how fast Izzy was going. He didn't scream, but he did feel slightly nauseous and dizzy. Izzy tried to ignore the sudden butterflies in her stomach when he buried his face in her shoulder, his arms tightening around her.

They arrived at the location, finding the place was completely empty. When she stopped, Peter reluctantly let go of her, finding out quickly he liked holding her. He stumbled a little when he stepped back, feeling dizzy. Izzy looked over him worriedly.

"Oh no, are you okay? I'm so sorry." She apologizes, feeling guilty. "Thank you for not screaming in my ear though." She added with a sheepish smile.

"It's okay, I'm okay." He reassures her, a small smile forming on his lips. "Just a little dizzy, but I'll live. Now let's go."

"Wait, Eve, scan the building. Can you locate if anyone's here or not?" Izzy asked the AI, hoping she could find anything.

"Scanning." Eve replies. After a few moments, she adds, "No one's there. You're good to go."

With that, Izzy and Peter sneak inside with Peter holding them on a web, lowering them down. And once again, they both liked being that close and suddenly felt flustered about it. But their attention was drawn to a table of different computers set up, showing the Avengers' tower, security camera footage of the inside and the model of the plane. Other equipment was scattered around in the building and as the two turned, they were surprised to find the wings that the Vulture guy had were here.

"Must be his hideout." Izzy murmurs to Peter, who nodded in agreement. "Eve, keep scanning the building for people. Let me know when someone is here." She wanted to be prepared as she and Peter explored the place.

"There's a man named Adrian Toomes in the large room to your right." Eve informed her, causing her eyes to widen and to look at Peter.

"What?" Peter asked with confusion.

"Liz's dad is here, follow me." She whispered to him, heading in the direction Eve told her to go. Peter was surprised, but he followed her. They find Adrian Toomes in a large room that was empty besides him and a table of devices and a lamp. "Hey!" Peter called out. "Surprised?"

"Oh, hey, Pete." Adrian casually replies, glancing over at Izzy and giving her a nod. "Elektra. Or should I say, Izzy?" He chuckled when they both looked at each other.

Izzy was surprised and confused how he knew who she was. "How do you know who I am?" She demanded.

"Your voice sounds a lot like Izzy Stark's voice." Adrian points out, making her mentally scold herself for forgetting to use a voice modifier. "Plus you're friends with my daughter. Seen you around before. Heard you disappear a lot like Peter, here. I didn't hear you two come in.

"It's over. We got you." Peter told Adrian while they kept walking to him.

"You know, I gotta tell you, Pete...I really, really admire your grit." Adrian admits while he put on a jacket. "I see why Liz likes you. I do. When you first came to the house...I wasn't sure. I thought 'really', but I get it now."

"How could you do this to her?" Peter demanded.

"To her? I'm not doing anything to her, Pete." Adrian argues. "I'm doing this for her."

Izzy scoffs, shaking her head. "Yeah, right. You're being a criminal for her?" She asked with disbelief.

"Yeah, exactly." Peter scoffed, shooting a web at Adrian's hand and sticking it to the desk.

Adrian sighs, looking annoyed. "Peter, Izzy, you two are young. You guys don't understand how the world works.

"Yeah, but we understand that selling weapons to criminals is wrong." Peter shot back.

"How do you think your buddy Stark paid for that tower? Or any of his little toys?" Adrian questioned, glaring at him.

"I'm guessing he earned it. Like you're gonna earn a free trip to jail." Izzy retorts. "My uncle wouldn't do that. He's a good man. Not like you."

Adrian smirks, glancing at her. "Ah, Isabela. Sweet, smart, and a fighter. You remind me of my little girl. Too bad you're on the wrong side, kid. And as for your uncle, you really think he's a good man?" He scoffed.

"Okay, maybe not the best but better than you." Izzy glared at him, feeling angry. How dare he say anything bad about her uncle.

"You gotta watch your back with that one." Adrian tells Peter with amusement. "She might be a bit of trouble for you, Pete. She's got a fire in her, but she's a Stark. All of the Starks are a pain in the a** and all cause trouble."

Peter clenches his jaw and his hands at his sides form into fists, ready to retort, but Izzy cut him off. "Enough talk. You're not going to convince us of your twisted logic. You're going to answer for your crimes." She wanted to insult him for talking bad about her and her family, but she needed to keep calm and focus.

"You guys, those people, those people up there...The rich and the powerful," Adrian continues, pointing at Izzy with his free hand. "People like her, like her uncle, they do whatever they want. Guys like you and me. We build their roads, and we fight all their wars and everything, but they don't care about us. We have to pick up after 'em. We have to eat their table scraps. That's how it is. I know you know what I'm talkin' about, Peter."

"Why are you telling us this?" Izzy asked, frowning.

"Because I ant you two to understand. And...I needed a little time to get her airborne." Adrian smirked. Suddenly the Vulture wings they saw before flew through the wall. Peter flipped out of the way as Izzy super sped to the side to dodge getting hit while Adrian pulled out a knife to cut the webbing sticking his hand to the table. Izzy and Peter dodge all the hits from the Vulture wings as it flew at them and tried to knock them down. It cut through the wall and cut through some pillars.

"I'm sorry, kids." Adrian called out, causing them to grow confused.

"What are you talking about? That thing hasn't even touched us yet." Peter replied, but as the Vulture wings flew around them, Izzy looked around at the damage and her eyes widened, realizing Adrian's plan. He was trying to trap them under the building that looked like it was about to crumble.

"Crap." She mutters. "Crap, crap, crap." She tried to wrack her brain of ideas. What could they do? There was no time. She needed to get herself and Peter out of here before it crumbled.

"True. But then again...Wasn't really trying to." Adrian replied to Peter.

"Please let this work." She mumbled to herself when she noticed part of the ceiling and pillars beginning to crumble. She pressed a button on her ring, hoping the force field she added to this suit would work. She grabbed Peter, pulling him closer to her and wrapped her arms around him tightly. The force field surrounded them.

"What are you-"

"Trust me." She cut him off. Peter nodded and wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight. The ceiling and pillars fell on the force field. She closed her eyes, wincing as the dust and rubble hit the force field. Peter held her tight, his heart pounding in his chest. He buried his face in her hair, ignoring the way his stomach twisted at the close proximity. He didn't know how long they were there, but once the dust and rubble had stopped falling, he lifted his head, his gaze locking with hers.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Yeah. You?" She breathed out, looking at him with concern.

"Yeah, how long will that forcefield hold? Is it gonna run out?" He wondered.

"Hopefully not until we get out." Izzy replies, noticing a small opening they could get out. "You go first. I'll go after. Go, go, go!"

Peter hesitated but nodded, carefully crawling through the opening. Izzy looked above her, noticing her force field was starting to flicker and fade away under all the rubble. She made a mental note to fix it to make it hold more and for a longer time. She started to crawl through the opening, making her way out. But just as she was about to crawl out, her force field faded and the rubble collapsed, making her cry out in surprise. Though just as it fell, a hand grabbed hers and she was pulled out. She was surprised when she was in Peter's arms, both breathing heavily from the adrenaline.

"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly, looking her over for any injuries. He sighed with relief and hugged her, burying his face in her hair.

Izzy hugs him back tightly. "Yeah, I'm okay. Thanks. For getting me out." She added, smiling when she noticed he was blushing a little. She couldn't deny the feeling in her stomach and her heart skipping a beat at the closeness. She buried her face in his neck, taking a deep breath and continuing to try to calm down. She held onto him tightly, feeling a mix of relief and exhilaration from their close encounter. Peter's heart raced as he realized how much he cared about her and how important she had become to him. Despite the danger they had just escaped, he couldn't help but feel a profound sense of comfort and connection with her in that moment.

"I'm really glad you're okay," Peter said softly, his voice trembling slightly. He pulled back just enough to look into her eyes, his expression filled with genuine concern and affection.

Izzy smiles, her cheeks flushed from the adrenaline and their proximity. "Me too. Thanks for saving me back there. I couldn't have done it without you."

Peter was glad his mask was still on to hide the blush on his cheeks. "Yeah, I'm glad you're okay, too." He smiles, looking relieved and happy. "I'm really glad we're both okay."

"Yeah, same here. But we should go after that guy before he gets away." Izzy reminded him, not wanting to let Liz's dad get away with his crime.

"Yeah, okay." He agreed, reluctantly letting her go as he stood. Though he did help her up and kept an arm around her waist, making her smile. She couldn't deny the warm feeling spreading in her chest and the butterflies in her stomach at his closeness and him keeping her close.

"How are we gonna stop him?" Izzy questioned, noticing Vulture on top of a building.

"Do you trust me?" Peter asked her, catching her off guard and causing her to look back at him.

"Of course I do." She replies with no hesitation. "Why do you ask?"

Peter hesitates, glancing over at the plane that had took off. "My plan's a little crazy."
