CHAPTER TEN

After getting off the Ferry, Izzy and Peter now sat on the edge of a building after those wild events that happened. Peter had his mask off, but Izzy still had hers on. "Peter, I hope you know you did a good thing." She murmurs to him, nudging his shoulder. "Yeah, things could've gone a lot better, but the important thing is no one got hurt."

"That was a close one." Peter admits, rubbing his face with his hands. "It could've gone so much better."

"Maybe that Vulture guy was right. We don't know what we're getting into." She said softly, earning a look of disbelief from him. "But," She quickly adds. "That doesn't mean we're gonna stop. We're just gonna be smarter about it. We can't risk people getting hurt."

Peter nods in agreement. "Yeah, we gotta be more careful." He sighs, leaning his head on her shoulder. "You really think I did good?"

"Yeah, I do." Izzy smiles, putting an arm around him. She did think he tried his best and had the best intentions, but it didn't turn out the way they planned. "We both did." She pauses before adding, "I think my uncle will still be upset."

"You are right on that, Izzy." Tony's voice gets their attention and they turn to see Tony flying by them. "Previously on Peter Screws the Pooch...I tell you to stay away from this. Instead, you hacked a multimillion-dollar suit...So you could sneak around behind my back doing the one thing I told you not to do." He scolded.

"Is everyone okay?" Peter asked worriedly.

"No thanks to you." Tony snapped.

Izzy's eyes widen. "Uncle Tony-"

"You stay out of this. I'm upset with you too." Tony tells her firmly, earning a frown from Izzy. "While you did good and helped out, this was still very dangerous and could've ended badly. It almost did. You both could've been killed along with everyone else on that Ferry. What were you thinking?"

"I was thinking that we could stop some bad guys and save a lot of people." Izzy replies, crossing her arms. "That's what I do, I'm a hero."

"You're also still a kid. You don't have all the experience yet and you're still learning. You still have a long way to go." Tony points out. "This is exactly why I wanted you both to wait. You're both not ready."

"No thanks to me? Those weapons were out there, and I tried to tell you about it, but you didn't listen. None of this would've happened if you had just listened to me." Peter exclaims, his voice wavering as he gets off the edge onto the bridge to storm over to Tony, who was flying down to land on the bridge. "If you even cared, about me, about your niece, you'd actually be here."

Izzy gasps, getting off the edge of the roof with surprise and disbelief when the suit suddenly opens and reveals her uncle there. He was there. He really was there. Peter stumbles backwards, eyes widening in disbelief while Tony steps towards him. "I did listen, kid. Who do you think called the FBI, huh? Did you know I was the only one who believed in you?" Izzy clears her throat, earning an eye roll from Tony. "Besides Izzy. Everyone else said I was crazy to recruit a fourteen-year-old kid. And thought I was insane for recruiting my own niece." He adds, turning his intense gaze to Izzy, who wanted to shrink back under his stare. He had the look that she was going to get an earful from him later. Or probably now considering how mad he looked. "Izzy, your brothers are going to most likely and understandably flip when they find out about this. You'll have to deal with that on your own-"

"We're fifteen, by the way." Peter spoke up nervously, earning another annoyed look from Tony.

"No, this is where you zip it." Tony said sharply. "The adult is talking. What if somebody had died tonight? Different story, right? 'Cause that's on you. And if you died, I feel like that's on me. I don't need that on my conscience." He turns to his niece, shaking his head and looking away from her. "I don't wanna even think about you possibly dying." He muttered to himself. Izzy tried blinking away the tears that had brimmed her eyes, swallowing the lump in her throat. She could tell how worried and stressed her uncle was over this and she hated that she was making him worry so much. But this is what she did. What she wanted to do. She wanted to be a superhero and help and save people, defeat evil. Even though this was a big screw up, she was going to learn from it and do better.

"Yes, sir." Peter immediately chimes in. "I'm sorry, I understand."

"Sorry doesn't cut it." Tony argued.

"I just wanted to be like you." Peter's voice wavered when he spoke, tears threatening to spill.

"And I wanted you to be better." Tony mutters, looking away. "Okay, it's not working out. I'm gonna need the suit back."

Izzy gasps in shock, her eyes widening. She couldn't believe her uncle was doing this. No. This wasn't fair. "Wait, you're taking the suit? No, you can't do that." She protested.

"Oh, yes, I can. While I'm at it, you are gonna be grounded from anything superhero wise until I say so." Tony informed her sternly.

Izzy gapes at him in shock and disbelief. "Uncle Tony!" She exclaims, appalled that he would do such a thing. "You can't do that! I'm a hero. I help people. People need Elektra. You can't take that from me." She argues, walking over to him as her vision continued to get blurry with tears. "This isn't fair. I know you're angry with me, with us, and you have every right to be, but this is ridiculous. I save people. That's what you taught me. You taught me everything I know and now you're taking all that away? " Her voice wavers as she pleaded with him. "Please, Uncle Tony, we messed up, but we can do better. We'll be more careful, I promise."

Tony's stern expression softens slightly as he saw the tears in Izzy's eyes. He sighs heavily, rubbing his temples. "Izzy, I get it. I really do. But this isn't about taking away your chance to be a hero. It's about keeping you safe. Both of you." He glances at Peter, who stood silently, head down while he tried to stop tears from falling. "You need to understand that there's a lot more to being a hero than just saving people. It's about responsibility, about knowing your limits."

"For how long?" Peter inquired quietly.

"Forever." Tony answered, causing the two teens to stare at him with disbelief, their hearts sinking at his words.

"No, no, please." Peter pleaded, shaking his head and frowning.

"Yeah, that's how it works." Tony tells him. "Let's have it."

"Please, this is all I have." Peter argues, his voice breaking. "I'm nothing without this suit."

Izzy's heart broke more when she heard him say that. She begged to differ. She thought he was a lot more than just the suit. "Peter, that's not true." She murmured, reaching out to touch his shoulder, but he didn't respond.

Tony stepped closer to Peter, his face softening slightly. "If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it," He said firmly. He shakes his head, looking annoyed. "I sound like my dad." He mumbled to himself.

"I don't have any other clothes." Peter muttered.

"Okay, we'll sort that out. Izzy, hand me your watch." Tony orders, holding his hand out. "And I will be putting a lock on the door to your hideout you can't get into, you aren't allowed to use that either until further notice."

With a sniffle and a broken heart, she reached over to press a button on her watch to make her suit disappear and her normal clothes appear. She wipes the tears that escaped with the back of her hand as she undid her watch. She handed it to him, biting her lip as her lower lip trembled. She wanted to scream and cry and beg her uncle to give them another chance, but she couldn't. He didn't look like he'd budge. And maybe he was right. Maybe they weren't ready yet. "I'll see you around, okay?" Tony murmurs softly to his niece, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder and giving it a squeeze. Izzy wipes her tears away again, taking a shaky breath before she stepped back. Tony knew what she was going to do and immediately tried to stop her. "Izzy-" But in a flash, Izzy had vanished and was gone. He sighed heavily, rubbing his forehead. This was not how he planned on spending his day.

Izzy found herself back home, wiping her eyes as she walked inside. She didn't even notice that there was a different car in the driveway and that Zander had a date over. She knew Callum was still out at work and would be home soon. She didn't care about anything right now. She just wanted to hide and wallow in her sadness.

But of course, life wouldn't be that easy.

"Izzy?" A voice calls out her name and she freezes. She pauses at the bottom of the stairs, looking over at the living room where Zander and a brunette-haired girl sat on the couch. Even through her teary eyes, she recognized the girl was Cosette, one of the girls Zander had been going out with. His face softens and he grew more concerned, getting up without hesitation when he saw the tears. "Sis, what's going on? Who a** do I need to kick?" He asked softly, trying to get her to smile, but it didn't work which caused him to frown.

"Nothing, it's fine. Everything is great. I'm sorry I barged in on your date." She replies, not looking at either of them. "I'm just gonna go upstairs and sleep or something." She wipes her eyes, not wanting to start crying in front of Zander and Cosette. "It was nice seeing you again, Cosette. Just wish it was in a better setting." She mumbles as she pulled away from her brother to head up the stairs, groaning in annoyance when he followed her. "Zan, it's fine. I'm okay. Really. You have a date, go back to it. I'll be okay."

"I was just about to leave anyway," Cosette speaks up, standing up. "Zander, it was great hanging out with you today. And yeah, Izzy, would love to hang out with you more when you're feeling better." She smiles gently at the girl, who gave her a weak smile back. Cosette then smiles at Zander. "I'll see you later, okay?"

Zander nods, sending her a grateful and apologetic look, mouthing 'thank you' to her. She smiles back at him, nodding in understanding and mouthing 'you're welcome'. She grabs her purse and keys before she left. "Okay, it's just us," He said softly, turning back to his sister. "Now, talk to me. What happened? Was it some a**hole at school?"

"No, it wasn't that." Izzy sighs, turning back to walk up the stairs and Zander follows. "Zan, really, it's fine."

"No, it's not. Clearly, you're upset about something and I'm not going to let you be alone while you're upset." Zander argued, following her up to her room. "Come on, Izzy, it's me. Your older brother. You can tell me anything."

Izzy was silent as she walked into her room, shutting the door behind her to try to stop him from following her. She was going to lock it when he beat her to it, opening the door before she could lock it. He then stood in front of it, arms crossed as he stared down at his younger sister. She sighs heavily, her shoulders slumping and her eyes brimming with tears again. "It's just..." She trails off, her lower lip trembling as she tried to think of what to say. She didn't want him to freak out. Or call their uncle and make things worse. So, she just went with the simple truth. "Uncle Tony was really mad at me." She says quietly. "He was really mad at Peter and me for what happened at the Ferry and he...He took away the suit. He even said I can't use my hideout anymore either until further notice."

Zander frowns deeply, uncrossing his arms. "What? What happened?" He asked, confused.

"You might want to sit down."

After Izzy told him the story of what happened with the Vulture and the Ferry, she felt a lot better and she was glad that she had talked to someone. But she was trying not to cry at the end of it. "So, yeah, he took the suit away, told me I can never do the superhero stuff again. Elektra is now gone." She mumbled, leaning back on her bed and grabbing one of her stuffed animals.

"That sucks, sis. I'm so sorry." Zander sympathizes, frowning deeply. "But hey, at least you tried and helped stop the Vulture. And you helped save a lot of people. That's a win. Maybe it doesn't seem like it right now, but I think it'll work out. Just keep working hard, Izzy, and you'll prove yourself. And I'm sure Peter will too." He assured her.

Izzy sniffles, hugging the stuffed animal to her chest. "Yeah, I guess. But what if he's right. What if I'm not ready and I'm just way in over my head?" She asked softly.

"That's always a possibility. But sometimes, you have to dive in and take the chance." Zander replies, sitting beside her. "Even if you feel like you're not ready. Even if you have doubts. That doesn't mean you should stop or give up. Keep going. Try again. If you do that, then you can only improve. You are still learning and you will make mistakes, but hopefully get better each time. Just have faith, Izzy. I have a feeling that he won't keep you from it forever." He moves to lay down beside her, putting an arm around her comfortingly. "It's not the end of the world. Things will work out."

"Thanks, Zan." Izzy smiles weakly, turning to lay her head on his chest, still hugging her stuffed animal. "How are you so good at giving advice?"

"I am a genius. It runs in the family." He quips, earning a small laugh from his sister. He smiles, kissing her forehead. "Hey, finally got a smile and a laugh. That's good. But you can still talk to me. I'll always be here. I may not know what it's like being a superhero, but I can still try to understand. You're my little sister, so I want to help you and make sure you're okay."

"I know, and I'm so thankful for that. I'm sorry I didn't tell you or Callum about helping Peter. I didn't want you guys to worry. I didn't think it would've led to this. I really didn't." She mumbled, sniffling and leaning into his hand that was now running through her hair soothingly.

"It's okay. You were trying to help a friend and save people. I get it. Just be more careful next time, okay?" He tells her gently. "I'm just glad you're okay. And that you had Peter watching your back."

Izzy hums softly, closing her eyes. She was feeling tired. After using her powers a lot and crying, she was exhausted. She didn't want to do anything. Zander was right. It was just a bump in the road. She just needed to take it easy and keep working. She would prove herself. And hopefully get her suit and hideout back. "You know, Uncle Tony is just worried about you. We all are." Zander murmurs, still playing with her hair. "And I think we're not the only ones. I bet the team is worried about you too. But we also know you can handle yourself and that you'll do the right thing. You are a good person and a great hero, Izzy. We're just looking out for you."

"I know, thank you." She mumbled sleepily, her voice fading slightly as she started drifting off.

"Get some rest. It's been a long day." He encouraged her.

Izzy felt the last bit of her energy leave her as her eyes fluttered shut, darkness taking over. The last thing she heard from Zander was, "Night, Iz. I love you."
