CHAPTER SEVEN
Everyone soon separated to their rooms for the night with the person they were sharing the room with. Izzy was paired up with Michelle which she was happy about. While the girl was reserved and could be intimidating to others, she always enjoyed hanging out with Michelle and counted her as a good friend. "So, the hotel room is pretty great, don't you think?" Izzy questioned, smiling at the brunette when they walked into their shared room. It looked like your typical hotel room, she was just trying to make conversation with Michelle. She knew the bookworm didn't really talk a lot and she was used to it. But, she figured maybe she could start up a conversation.
"Uh huh." Michelle responds simply, walking ahead of her and picking the bed by the windows. She pauses, looking over at her. "You care what bed I sleep on?"
"Not really. Take whatever." Izzy answered, surprised she was given the option to pick the bed. She didn't mind which one she slept on, but she was happy that Michelle asked her first. It was sweet.
"Cool." Michelle nodded, her lips curving up slightly as she set her bag down on the bed.
Izzy smiled and sat her stuff down on the bed before she pulled her phone out and texted her brothers. She let them know she was safe and sound at the hotel After sending them a text, she sat her phone down and opened her suitcase. She began taking out her clothes and folding them, placing them in a drawer.
"Who were you texting?" Michelle asked curiously while she unpacked her things.
"My brothers. They told me to check in with them sometimes on this trip. They act like they aren't super overprotective, but they are and they can't hide it from me." Izzy chuckles, shrugging and smiling at her friend. "It still can be annoying at times. They both can be annoying. Like this morning, Zander, my oldest brother, woke me up by threatening to pour ice water on me if I didn't wake up. Luckily, he didn't. He didn't actually pour ice water on me. It's happened before and it's not a pleasant experience."
"Your brother actually poured ice water on you?" Michelle raised her brows, staring at the girl with surprise.
"Yeah, one morning when I didn't wake up to my alarm and I was running late, Zander was not happy and tried to wake me up with that." Izzy explains, smiling more at the fact she was getting Michelle to talk more. While she didn't mind not talking, she enjoyed it when she did. She loved hanging out with her friends and the rest of the team, so she was trying to get to know Michelle better and bond with her.
"Well, your brother sounds...Interesting." Michelle commented dryly, earning a laugh from Izzy.
"That's an understatement." Izzy shakes her head, her smile fading after a moment. "But, yeah, he's just protective of me and can be annoying. So can the other."
"Is he as annoying as Flash?" Michelle asked, glancing at her with curiosity and a hint of amusement.
Izzy thought about her question. She wasn't sure if her other brother was worse or not. He could be. "Maybe. Yeah, actually, they're pretty annoying. And they're always ganging up on me. That's the worst when that happens. It's a pain."
Michelle smiles slightly, nodding in understanding. "Sounds like they're the pain."
"Yeah." Izzy grins, nodding in agreement. Her attention was caught by the sound of her phone ringing. She grabs her phone, noticing Peter was calling her. "Oh, uh, Peter's calling. I'm gonna step out and take this real quick."
"Oh, hey, speaking of Peter." Michelle speaks up, causing Izzy to pause and look at her with curiosity. "I saw him checking you out earlier when we got here. He looked pretty smitten. Or, is he always like that? Is he into you?"
"What?" Izzy's eyes widen, her face turning red as her heart raced while she stared at Michelle with surprise. She hadn't been expecting that. Was she being serious? Her mouth hung open and she could feel her face warming up more. "What-What are you talking about? He's not into me like that." She stammered.
"You sure about that?" Michelle raises her brows, clearly not believing her. "He was totally checking you out. If we were in an anime, he would've had literal heart eyes for you."
"Really? Are you being serious right now?" Izzy was still having a hard time believing her. There's no way Peter had a crush on her. He wouldn't. They were friends. Best friends. Despite her huge crush on Peter, she just couldn't believe him possibly feeling the same for her. Maybe Michelle had been wrong. He didn't seem to act differently around her and she would notice.
"Uh, yeah. I don't lie. And, I'm pretty observant." Michelle said bluntly, shrugging and smirking at her. "So I definitely noticed him checking you out."
Izzy's heart continued to race and her face was warm. "I-I'm not really sure what to say."
"You don't have to say anything. Just know that he was definitely checking you out. And, he probably likes you. So, take that information as you wish." Michelle responded, turning her attention back to her things.
Izzy stared at her for a moment before slowly nodding. "Alright." She mumbles, turning and walking out of the room, trying to process the information. She wasn't sure what to think of the conversation they just had. She could tell Michelle wasn't lying and she wasn't kidding. So, did that mean Peter liked her? Her heart swelled at the thought and a fluttery feeling filled her stomach. She quickly shook her head, pushing those thoughts away. No, Peter didn't like her like that. Maybe he had been checking her out or maybe not. Maybe Michelle was just teasing her or mistaken. Though Michelle was right. Michelle was one of the most observant people she knew. She was smart, perceptive, and had a knack for observing and noticing little details.
Sighing softly, Izzy pushed her thoughts aside and answered her phone. "Hey, Pete. What's up?"
"Hey, Izzy. I got the tracker out and Ned helped me take off this 'Training Wheels Protocol' Mr. Stark had on my suit which is ridiculous and I'm glad I got that gone. But I'm going to track down those guys, you wanna come with?"
"Of course!" Izzy replies immediately, blushing after realizing she probably said that too fast and too eagerly. She clears her throat. "Uh, I mean, yeah, I'll go with you."
"Great, meet me on the roof when you're ready." Peter replied, sounding relieved she agreed to go.
"Okay, got it. Be there soon." Izzy ended the call, taking a deep breath before running a hand through her hair. She needed to calm down and push her thoughts aside. She would have plenty of time to think about that later. For now, she needed to focus on finding the guys and helping Peter. She felt giddy and excited. This was her first mission with Peter and she couldn't wait to spend some alone time with him. She couldn't believe she was about to go on a mission with him and help him.
Before she could go back into her room, she spotted Cindy and Liz leaving their shared room. She raises her eyebrows, noticing they were in their swimsuits. "Izzy!" Cindy grins at her when she saw her. "Hi."
"Hi, guys." She chuckles, smiling at the two. "What are you two doing?"
"Night swim." Cindy replied excitedly.
"Yeah, the others are joining too. So if you and Michelle wanna come join us, you two are free to." Liz suggested, smiling at her.
"Uh, actually, I was gonna get some last minute studying in. But, you guys have fun." Izzy responds politely, smiling friendly at them. "And, I'll let Michelle know. Maybe she'll go." She had a feeling Michelle wouldn't, but it was worth a try. She didn't blame her though. She would prefer to be in a comfortable hotel room with a book and music playing than going swimming with the group.
"Okay, well, enjoy the studying. Though you don't need to study anymore, Izzy. You're a genius." Liz told her, giving her a knowing look.
"Thanks. I appreciate the compliment. But, I'm still going to review some things." Izzy says, smiling sheepishly. "Goodnight, guys. I'll see you guys tomorrow." When the girls waved goodbye and left, she walks back into the room. "Hey, just saw Liz and Cindy. They're all going to the pool to swim, invited us to go. But I'm gonna go get some last minute studying in. Which I don't really need, just wanna be prepared. But, you can go join them if you want."
"Pass. I'm gonna read." Michelle shrugs, looking up at her with a small smile. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Michelle." Izzy smiled at her before she left again. When she got outside and saw no one around, she used her super speed to get up to the roof. And it was then she pressed a button on her watch, making her suit appear on her and the mask cover her face. When she saw Peter, her heart fluttered and she felt her face heating up as she remembered what Michelle said. No, no, she couldn't think about that. She had to focus on the mission.
"Hey, I'm glad you could make it." Peter grinned, his heart fluttering as he stared at Izzy in her suit. The suit fit her perfectly, showing her curves. The blue and silver color suited her and looked great on her. She looked amazing as always.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world, Spidey." She smiles brightly, her heart racing when she saw him staring. Or maybe he wasn't and she was just getting her hopes up. She clears her throat, forcing herself to focus even though she had let her gaze linger on him longer than necessary though she couldn't help it. Who gave him the right to look that good in that suit? "So, how are you liking your suit now that it's not on 'Training Wheels Protocol'?" She asked, looking amused at the fact his suit even had it. Though she understood why, her suit had it too when she first got it.
Peter was glad he had his mask on now because he knew she would tease him if she saw him blushing. "It's really cool. Was kinda freaked out at first when I heard this voice in my suit."
"Oh, the A.I." Izzy nods in realization. "Yeah, that's freaky the first time you hear your A.I. in your suit. But you get used to it. And, they're pretty cool." She smiled, thinking about the A.I. in her suit. She loved her A.I., she was very helpful and nice. She had learned a lot from her, even the basics like how to use her suit and other options.
"Yeah. It's pretty cool." Peter agrees, smiling at her. He clears his throat and looks away after realizing he was staring longer than he should. "Okay, let's get out of here and hopefully make it back in time before the competition starts."
"Let's do it." Izzy grins, super speeding alongside him while he swung off the building to a moving truck. "Hey, Eve," She greets her A.I. "We have a tracker on some bad guys we're chasing, can you pinpoint where they are right now?"
"Sure thing, Izzy." Eve replies cheerfully. She was silent for a few seconds before she spoke again. "You are currently a hundred meters from your targets."
"Thanks, Eve." Izzy replies. "Hey, Pete, I'll meet you there." She called out to him before speeding ahead, following the directions Eve was giving her. She always loved using her super speed. There was nothing like the wind rushing against her and the feeling of exhilaration as she super speeds through the city. She was going so fast, everything around her was a blur. Her eyesight was enhanced, so she was able to see clearly despite the fact everything was a blur around her.
"Okay, they're close. They should be up ahead at the next gas station." Eve told her, confusing and surprising Izzy. She didn't say anything about it. She wasn't sure why they would be at a gas station and the closer she got to it, Eve warned her there are three people there. She thanked Eve and once she arrived to the gas station, she hid on top of the roof, using her invisibility option so no one could see her. She knelt down by the edge of the roof, noticing a van parked by the gas station. She knew that was the van the mysterious guys she and Peter were after.
Izzy then notices Peter on top of a sign there. "Eve, contact Peter."
"Contacting Peter Parker." Eve said, causing a screen to pop up on her mask and Peter's name was displayed.
"Hey, you're late, Spider-Boy." Izzy teased, smirking under her mask.
Peter groans quietly. "It's Spider-Man, come on. You know that. Where are you?" He asked, looking around for her.
Izzy giggles, pressing a button on her watch to make her visible again. "On the roof of the gas station."
Peter's eyes widens when he saw her. "That's awesome." He breathes out, smiling in awe. "So, you see those guys over there, right?" He murmurs, looking back down at the guys in the van, thanks to his A.I. allowing him to see and listen in to them "You can hear them too?" He added.
"Yeah, it sounds like they were in a heist." Izzy replied and Peter nodded in agreement, realizing she was right after listening in.
"We could catch them red-handed. This is awesome." Peter gushes. "Okay, I'm gonna get a little closer to see what's happening." After his A.I. suggested 'Enhanced combat mode', he quickly agrees. Though when his A.I. said 'activating instant kill', he panics. "No, no, no. I don't want to kill anybody."
Izzy chuckles, watching him with amusement. After seeing the eyes of his mask suddenly glowing red, she figured the 'instant kill' mode was on. "Having trouble with the new options in your suit, Spidey?" She asked, sounding amused and playful.
"It's fine. I got it." Peter mumbled, turning the instant kill off. He then goes to jump off the sign, shooting a web at the gas pump sign, but instead falling flat on his face. He grunted in pain when he roughly hit the ground.
Izzy covers her mouth to stifle a laugh. She couldn't believe he did that. She was worried and trying not to laugh at the same time. "You okay, Spidey?"
"Yeah, fine. Just-Just give me a sec." He mutters, stumbling to his feet. "What the h** just happened? What was that?"
"You mean besides landing flat on your face?" Izzy giggled, unable to hide her amusement. "I'm not sure. Maybe the webs were faulty?" She guessed.
"The webs aren't faulty." Peter scoffed. He raised his hand and tries shooting his webs at the sign, surprised and confused when they were rapid fire.
"Faulty." Izzy pointed out, trying to hold back another laugh. She knew he wasn't going to be happy hearing that, but she couldn't help teasing him a bit.
"Suit lady, what's wrong with my web-shooters?" Peter asked his A.I in a panicked voice, running to hide behind the gas pump.
"Eve, can you tell me what's going on with his web-shooters?" Izzy asked her A.I, deciding to check it out since he was freaking out.
Peter seemed to have thought the same thing since he questions his A.I.. "Why would I need rapid-fire?"
"Pete, you okay?" Izzy questioned in concern.
"Yeah, yeah. My suit lady just gave me ton of options for my web-shooters. Your uncle really overdid it." Peter remarked, staring at his hands with wide eyes as the different options are shown in his mask.
"Yeah, sounds like Uncle Tony." Izzy chuckles. "He likes to overdo things." She watches, gasping when he shot a web at the sign of the gas pump and was surprised to see the web had an electrical current to it. "What the heck was that?" She inquires. "One of the options?"
"Yeah, apparently." Peter mutters, panicked again as he tried to stop the webbing and ran to the side of the gas station Izzy was hiding on top of. "What was that?" He questions his A.I. "Izzy, I have taser webs." He told her in shock after getting a response from his A.I.
"That's actually kinda cool. Not gonna lie." Izzy remarked, looking over at him while he climbed up to the roof by her.
"Taser webs? I don't want taser webs." Peter informs his A.I, kneeling by Izzy near the edge of the roof to check the van. Peter then told his A.I. to choose one before he looks at Izzy. "Iz, can you get us there fast?"
"Obviously." Izzy nods, smirking. "Hold on."
"To what?" Peter questioned, raising his eyebrows under his mask.
"Me, duh." Izzy snickered, wrapping her arms around his waist while he chuckled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. He was really glad he had his mask on to hide the blush on his face. When he nodded, she super sped them down to the van and on top of the van the vulture guy landed on. Well, not really landed. The wings were still in the air yet attached to the van and there was an opening in the roof made of some weird purple energy. Peter had noted it looked like some kind of matter phase shifter and Izzy agreed. It did look really cool, but they were here to stop this guy.
"Okay, Izzy, hang back and come in when you see an opening. But be careful, this guy's got weapons and tech I've never seen." Peter instructed, looking at her.
"Got it, Spidey." She replied, pressing a button on her watch to turn invisible and super sped to hide on top of one of the other vans.
"Hey, Big Bird!" Peter calls out to the bad guy, now holding the bag the guy had with him after using his webbing to grab it. "This doesn't belong to you." When the person turned to him, Peter realized how threatening he looked which made him really nervous. The guy backed up and got hooked to the wings before he flew off. Peter had to jump to the side quickly to miss him. Peter shot webs at him, eyes widening when they went past him. Peter questioned his A.I. what the webs were and the A.I. told him he told her to choose. As Peter struggled to keep the bag in grasp and not fall off the van while the vulture guy tried to get the bag from him, he told his A.I. to change everything back to normal.
Izzy gasped when Peter is suddenly thrown back into the van. After Peter tried jumping out, the roof of the van suddenly went back to normal. She would've gone after the vulture guy, but she was more so worried about Peter at the moment. "Peter!" She super speeds to the van of the roof, having her A.I. let her see inside. Peter was laid on the floor, clearly unconscious. "Eve, is Peter going to be okay?"
"Yes, he will be fine. It appears he has a mild concussion, but he will be okay." Eve answered, earning a sigh of relief from Izzy. Izzy turned invisible, hiding on top of the roof of the van while the vans continued moving. She wanted to stay with Peter to get him out of there. Thanks to her invisibility option, she was able to get into a vault where this container was put with other containers. Eve had informed her they were now in the most secured facility in the Western Seaboard. The Damage Control Deep Storage Vault.
"Seriously?!" Peter exclaimed, his hands on his head and eyes widening after his A.I. had revealed to him where they were.
Izzy sighs heavily, sitting on the floor against one of the boxes with both of her legs laid out in front of her and her head rested back on the box, a board expression was on her face as she watched Peter trying to open the vault they were in. " Peter, no matter how hard you try, you're not gonna get it open." She sighs in frustration, watching him. "Just accept it. We're stuck here until morning."
Peter jumps down and kicks the door in annoyance. " Your negativity isn't needed." He huffed, crossing his arms and pouting like a child.
"My negativity isn't needed? What I said was true. And I'm not being negative. I'm stating a fact." Izzy rolled her eyes and sighed.
"We can't give up." Peter said, shaking his head.
"And, we're not." Izzy assures him, giving him a soft smile. "We're not giving up. We'll get out of here...Just will probably not be until morning. So we just have to wait it out."
Peter eventually made two hammocks out of his webs out of boredom. He was laying in the one closest to the edge of the boxes while Izzy was laying in the one on his right side. She had her arms hooked underneath her head as a makeshift pillow while Peter had his hands on his stomach with one leg bent and the other leg stretched out. They were both silent, but the silence wasn't awkward. They were comfortable in it. It wasn't a bad thing. They were both tired after today. But they still didn't want to sleep, not yet anyway.
"Iz, can I ask you something?" Peter spoke up, breaking the silence.
"Already did." She giggles, smiling at him. "But you can ask another one." She smirked, making him roll his eyes playfully and chuckle.
"You're such a smart a**." He muttered, looking at her.
"It's in the Stark genes." Izzy remarked, grinning proudly.
Peter rolls his eyes again and smiled, unable to stop himself. "Anyway," He says, clearing his throat and sitting up, crossing his legs. "I wanted to ask...Do you ever get scared? You know, doing all this superhero stuff?"
Izzy's smile fades slightly, and she looks thoughtful. "Yeah, I do. I mean, who wouldn't be scared? We're putting our lives on the line every day. But I try not to let the fear control me. Instead, I use it to push myself to be better, to protect those who can't protect themselves."
Peter nods, understanding. "I guess that makes sense. It's just...sometimes I feel like I'm in over my head. Like today, with all those new suit options and everything. It was a lot."
Izzy reaches out and places a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "You're doing great, Peter. You've got a good heart, and you're always trying to do the right thing. That's what makes you a hero."
Peter smiles gratefully at her, his heart fluttering at her words and the look she gave him. "Thanks, Izzy. That means a lot coming from you."
"Anytime, Pete." She smiles, removing her hand and resting it back behind her head. "Have you named your A.I. yet?" She asked curiously.
"No, not yet." Peter shakes his head, chuckling. "Not really sure what I would name the A.I."
"Just try it out, you know? Maybe something will just click." Izzy suggested, grinning. "I mean, look at me. I named mine Eve. Simple, but it fits."
Peter laughed softly, nodding. "Yeah, maybe you're right. I'll think about it." His mind raced with ideas to name his A.I. Izzy's name was the first in mind, but he thought that would probably be really weird to name his A.I. after his best friend and the girl he was starting to have a crush on. He couldn't do that.
"You should name it Karen." Izzy suggested, giggling and nudging him gently.
"Karen? Really?" Peter laughs, shaking his head. "Why Karen?"
"Why not? It's simple, and it has a kind of charm to it," Izzy replies, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Plus, it's memorable."
Peter chuckles, considering the suggestion. "Alright, Karen it is," He said, smiling at her. "Thanks for the idea."
Izzy grins back at him. "Anytime, Pete."
A few minutes later Peter was swinging upside down from a web that he shot at the ceiling and he was reading one of the textbooks in his backpack out of boredom. Izzy was still in her web hammock, sleeping soundly. She had her arms crossed over her chest and her head tilted towards the side, her long hair covering part of her face. She looked peaceful and relaxed, a complete contrast to how she usually was. His gaze lingered on her for a moment, his lips curving into a small smile. She was so beautiful, and she didn't even know it.
"Your heart beat is increasing, Peter," Karen's voice suddenly rang out in his suit, causing him to jump slightly. "Are you alright?"
Peter quickly tore his gaze away from Izzy, feeling his cheeks flush. "I'm fine, Karen," He mutters, trying to ignore the way his heart was pounding in his chest. "Just a little distracted, that's all." He shook his head and focused his attention back on his book, determined to ignore his growing feelings for his best friend. He then asked Karen what else this suit can do, surprised when web like wings appear. He then realized he should probably run through that refresher course Karen mentioned. He now stood near the wall, wearing his Decathlon jacket over his suit.
"Ricochet web." Karen revealed the first option.
"Ricochet webs." Peter mumbled, using his web shooters to test out the option. His eyes widened when it bounced off the wall, causing him to duck to miss being hit. He grimaced when it hit the wall behind Izzy's head, the loud noise waking her up and startling her. She jumped awake and fell out of the hammock, hitting the ground with a thud and groaning in pain.
"What the h***?" Izzy groans, sitting up and rubbing the back of her head. She opens her eyes and saw the ricochet web stuck to the wall. She turns around and sees Peter, raising her eyebrows and looking annoyed. "Parker, what the heck was that?"
Peter winces. "Sorry, I was trying something. I'm sorry." He apologized, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.
"Trying what, exactly? To knock me out with a ricochet web?" Izzy teased, rubbing her head with a slight wince. She chuckled, though it was clear she was a bit disoriented from the sudden wake-up.
Peter grimaces, feeling guilty. "Definitely not my intention," He assures her, quickly moving to help her up. "Are you okay?" Peter extended a hand to help Izzy up, his expression filled with genuine concern.
"I'm fine," Izzy assures him, accepting his hand and getting to her feet. She dusts herself off and shot him a playful yet irritated look. "Just a little sore from the unexpected wake-up call."
Peter winces, feeling a pang of guilt. "I'm really sorry, Izzy. I was testing out some new features on the suit and didn't mean to cause any trouble."
Izzy's expression softens as she noticed the earnest look on his face. "It's okay, Peter. Just try not to use me as a test subject next time."
Peter chuckles nervously and nods. "Noted. I'll definitely be more careful."
Izzy stretches a bit, still rubbing the back of her head. "So, what did you discover? Any new cool features, or should I brace myself for more ricochet webs?"
"Dunno. Let's find out." Peter smiled at her before outstretching his hand while using his web shooter.
"Splitter web." Karen explained after two webs shot out of the web shooter. Eve had been telling Izzy the options of each web type Peter is trying out which she is thankful for since she didn't know what any of them were and she was curious.
"Web grenade." Eve told her and Izzy covered her mouth to stifle a laugh when Peter exclaimed it, tossing it at the wall after backing up by Izzy. Izzy found all of this amusing and adorable. Her face flushed at thinking he was adorable and her heart raced.
"Izzy, are you okay?" Eve asks her. "Your heart rate is elevated and your breathing has quickened."
Izzy mentally curses her A.I. and takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Yeah, I'm okay, Eve, just startled." She replied softly, glancing over at Peter who was still focused on testing out the various web options. She couldn't deny the rush of emotions she felt whenever she saw Peter in action, especially when he was being so earnest and determined. As much as she tried to push those feelings aside, they were becoming harder to ignore.
Peter notices her watching him and grins under his mask, his heart skipping a beat. "What do you think, Iz? Pretty cool, right?"
Izzy chuckles nervously, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Yeah, it's...Definitely impressive, Pete." She admitted, giving him a small smile.
Time passed by as Peter kept trying out different web options, using his webs as jump ropes at one point since he was getting bored again. Izzy now laid on top of one of the boxes next to Peter, her arms behind her head and her legs crossed at the ankles. Her eyes were closed, but she wasn't asleep. She was just trying to relax, her mind racing with thoughts. She was conflicted. On one hand, she knew she should be focusing on their mission to stop the vulture guy, but on the other hand, she couldn't stop thinking about Peter and how he was making her feel. She had never felt this way about anyone before, and it was confusing and exciting at the same time.
She then felt like someone was staring at her and she glanced over at Peter, her face flushing slightly when she saw him watching her. She couldn't tell what his expression was because he still had his mask on, but his gaze seemed intense and it made her heart race. She gave him a small smile, hoping to mask her inner turmoil. "You're staring." She teased, nudging him lightly.
Peter blushes under his mask and looks away sheepishly. "Sorry, I was just...Thinking." He said, his heart pounding in his chest.
Izzy raises an eyebrow at him curiously, sitting up. "What about?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
"You." Peter blurted out before he could stop himself, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.
"Okay," She chuckles nervously, her face turning more red. "What about me? Hopefully nothing embarrassing."
Peter's cheeks grew even redder, realizing he might have dug himself into a deeper hole. "No, nothing embarrassing! I just...Uh...Was thinking about how we've been through a lot together, you know? And how...Uh...Grateful I am for your friendship." He stumbled over his words, hoping he hadn't made things awkward between them.
Izzy's expression softens, touched by his words as her face felt more warm and butterflies swarm in her stomach. She smiles warmly at him. "Peter, you're such a dork," She teases gently, nudging him again. "But I feel the same way. We make a pretty good team, don't we?"
Peter chuckles nervously, relieved that she didn't seem put off by his awkwardness. "Yeah, we do," He agrees, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "Thanks for always having my back, Izzy."
"Always," Izzy replies sincerely, her smile widening. "And you have mine too, Peter." She pauses before adding, "I wonder how long we've been here. It feels like forever."
"Yeah, true." Peter nods in agreement and then asks his A.I. "Hey, Karen, how long have we been here anyways?"
"Thirty-seven minutes." Karen revealed.
"What?!" Peter exclaimed, sitting up with wide eyes.
Izzy raises her eyebrow, glancing at him with confusion and slight amusement. "What? How long has it been?"
"Thirty-seven minutes!" Peter answered in disbelief.
Izzy's eyes widened in surprise and she frowns. "Thirty-seven minutes? It feels like it's been so much longer!" She complained.
"Yeah, that's insane it's only been that long." Peter mumbles, shaking his head in disbelief. "I cannot take this anymore. We got to - we gotta get out of here." He flipped off the crate, easily landing on the ground. Izzy couldn't help but admire how graceful and elegant he looked when he was in his spider form. She couldn't deny how amazing he was.
"Eve, is there a way we can open the vault?" Izzy asked her A.I, trying to focus on the mission and not her growing crush on her best friend. While she super sped to the ground, Peter walked inside the box he had been in, hoping to find something that could help them get out.
"I'm detecting a security panel nearby," Eve replies promptly. "Perhaps if we can access it, we can override the locking mechanism."
"Perfect." Izzy sighs with relief, super speeding over to where the security panel was on the wall. "Pete, c'mere! Let's try to get this open!" She called out to him.
"Coming!" Peter calls back, rushing over to her. He looks at the security panel, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Okay, also don't panic, but you know that glowy thing we have?" He asks, making her nod in response and look at him with confusion. "We've been carrying around a bomb this whole time. There was another one in the bag I had."
"A bomb?!" Izzy exclaims, her eyes widening with alarm. "Wait, so that means Ned has a bomb with him right now?!" She looks up at the security panel. "We really need to get out of here."
"On it." Peter climbed up to the security panel, using his webs to hang upside down while he and Izzy began to work on it.
The next few minutes the two best friends have their A.I. lower the voltage and try every sequence. Izzy thought they would never get it open after trying two hundred and forty-seven. But a miracle happened and the metal doors opened. "It worked. It works!" Peter cheered happily.
"We did it!" Izzy said excitedly. "Okay, let's get the h*** out of here." She super sped alongside Peter while he used his webs to swing out of there.
