CHAPTER FOUR
The next day at school, Ned wouldn't stop asking Peter and Izzy questions about their powers and how they got it or how it worked. He was so amazed and excited to find out that his best friends were superheroes. It was hard for Peter and Izzy to answer all of his questions because they were constantly bombarded by Ned and it was starting to get a bit annoying.
Currently, they were in gym class. Izzy sat between Peter and Vivian on the bleachers and Ned sat by the other side of Peter. The rest of the gym class sat on the bleachers as well, watching a fitness challenge video made by Captain America. Izzy found it a little amusing that they were watching a fitness challenge by an ex-super soldier.
"Do you know him too?" Ned whispered to Peter and Izzy.
"Yeah, we met." Peter replies quietly, causing Ned's eyes to widen. "I stole his shield."
Ned glances at him in awe and mouths 'what'. "Yeah, but I was the one who actually worked with him." Izzy pointed out in a whisper, earning a surprised look from Ned.
"That's so cool." Ned breathed out.
"Thank you, Captain." Coach says once the video is done. "Pretty sure he's a war criminal now, but whatever, I have to show these videos. It's required by state. Let's do it." He then blew his whistle.
Everyone soon went through different tests. Kids were doing sit ups, climbing rope, etc. Peter was doing sit ups and Ned was keeping his feet down, still asking him questions about being Spider-Man.
"He's been asking questions all day." Izzy muttered as she did sit ups with Vivian holding her feet down.
"I know, he's driving me crazy." Vivian sighs. "And he's not even asking me questions."
They glance over after overhearing Betty say, "You see, for me, it would be F Thor...Marry Iron Man, and kill Hulk."
"People still do that game?" Izzy questioned, rolling her eyes.
"Yeah. It's kinda stupid if you ask me." Vivian agreed, sitting down after finishing her set of sit ups.
"Well, what about the Spider-Man?" Another kid asked Betty.
"It's just Spider-Man. Did you guys see the bank security cam on YouTube? He and that other hero Elektra fought off four guys." Liz smiled. That got Peter's attention, causing him to sit up with wide eyes.
"Oh my gosh, she's crushing on Spider-Man." Betty teased.
"No way." Another kid chuckled.
"Kind of." Liz admitted shyly.
"Oh, gross." Betty looks disgusted. "He's probably, like, thirty."
"You don't even know what he looks like. Like, what if he's seriously burned?" A kid asked.
"I wouldn't care. I'd love him for the person he is inside." Liz confessed.
"Peter knows Spider-Man." Ned suddenly spoke up, gaining the attention on him and Peter. Izzy's eyes widened, sharing a surprised look with Vivian.
Peter quickly stands, looking nervous as everyone stared at him. "No, I don't. No, I-I mean-"
"They're friends." Ned interrupted, standing as well.
"Yeah," Flash scoffs, dropping down from a rope. "Like Coach Wilson and Captain America are friends."
"I-I've met him, yeah." Peter stutters. "A couple times. But it's, um...Through the Stark Internship."
Flash tilts his head to the side, not looking like he believed Peter. "Mmm-mm."
"Yeah, well, I'm not really supposed to talk about it." Peter admitted, glancing back at Ned with a glare.
"He does know him." Izzy quickly chimed in, standing as well and earning a confused look from Vivian.
"What are you doing?!" Vivian whispered-yelled to her and stood up.
"I don't know!" Izzy whispered-yelled back to her.
"And why should I believe you?" Flash raised his eyebrows.
"Tony Stark is my uncle." Izzy blurted. She mentally cursed herself and mentally facepalmed, hoping Tony wouldn't find out that she had used him for this.
Flash's eyes widen, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of shock. "You...You're uncle is Tony Stark?"
"Yeah, that's, um, that's what I said." Izzy said nervously, her face red out of embarrassment as chatter filled the room and now eyes were on her. She shouldn't have blurted that out.
"Wait, what?!" Betty's eyes widened as she stared at her with shock and disbelief along with everyone else.
"Prove it." Flash suddenly said, crossing his arms. "If you're really the niece of Tony Stark, then prove it." Flash's demand for proof echoed through the gym, and all eyes turned to Izzy. She felt a mix of embarrassment and panic.
"Um-"
Vivian, sensing Izzy's discomfort, quickly intervened. "Come on, Flash, it's not like she's going to carry around a birth certificate with her."
Flash was unconvinced, his skepticism palpable. "If you're really related to Tony Stark, you should have some kind of proof or something."
The chatter began to pick up again, and Izzy had no idea what to do. She wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear. "Well, I-I, um..." She trails off, her anxiety and embarrassment making her brain go blank. She couldn't think of anything. Why couldn't she think of anything?! She felt her breathing get a little heavier, and her cheeks felt like they were burning. Her heart pounded rapidly. "I-I'll have my uncle show up at Liz's party." She blurts out. "He can confirm that he's my uncle, and that Peter is an intern for Stark Industries." Izzy's sudden offer to have Tony Stark show up at Liz's party left everyone in stunned silence. Flash's skepticism was momentarily put on hold as curiosity took over.
"Seriously?" Flash asked, his voice tinged with doubt but also interest.
"Yeah," Izzy said, trying to sound more confident than she felt. "He can verify everything."
The room was abuzz with whispers. Liz, who had been nervously watching the exchange, looked intrigued. "Wow, that would be pretty amazing." She admitted, looking at Izzy and smiling.
Flash didn't seem entirely convinced, but he relented. "Okay, fine. Whatever. While we're inviting people to the party, maybe Parker should invite Spider-Man to Liz's party since he apparently knows him." He taunted, giving Peter a playful shove. But it was clearly more rough since Peter had stumbled back a few steps. The coach blew his whistle and told them all to go back to their warm-ups.
Peter looked panicked, and glanced at Izzy for help. She didn't know what to say, and her brain was still trying to catch up with what had just happened. She was trying not to have a panic attack in the middle of the gym. Ned was staring at Izzy with his jaw dropped, and Vivian looked worried. But Izzy ignored their looks and went back to the bleachers, her hands trembling as she tried to do some exercises to distract herself. She needed to breathe. She needed a break. She couldn't think straight. Her uncle was probably busy and won't agree to do this and now she'll make a fool of herself. And why did she even offer that?! She was so stupid. Why didn't she just lie? Or-
"Hey," Vivian's voice interrupts Izzy's racing thoughts. "You okay? You don't look so good."
"Yeah, I'm just...A little stressed." Izzy mumbled, not meeting Vivian's concerned gaze. Her breathing was a little labored and she felt a little lightheaded. Vivian frowned, her concern growing. She didn't push Izzy further and continued to do her warm-up. But her gaze drifted to Izzy every once in a while. When the class ended, Vivian followed Izzy into the locker room. As Izzy was changing into her normal clothes, she felt a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, Iz?" She turned her head and saw Vivian's concerned expression. "Are you okay? You didn't really look well."
Izzy sighs. "Yeah, I just...I feel embarrassed and stupid. And I just wish I could have kept my mouth shut. I didn't mean to drag my uncle into this."
Vivian nods. "It's okay. But, for what it's worth, I think your plan could work."
"Did you forget about my distant and famous uncle?" Izzy asks sarcastically. "He's probably busy or won't care enough to come."
Vivian rolls her eyes. "I think he'll care about his niece to help her."
"I'm pretty sure he doesn't care enough about his niece to show up." Izzy says bitterly as she closed her locker door. "But it's worth a shot, I guess. It's just...It's so hard, y'know?" She mumbled, frowning at the ground. She was feeling overwhelmed, and her voice was tinged with frustration. She sighed heavily, feeling a wave of frustration and exhaustion.
Vivian steps closer, her expression softening with concern. "I know it's a lot. But you're doing your best, and that's all anyone can ask for. Besides, you might be surprised. Sometimes people come through when you least expect it."
Izzy looks up at Vivian, her eyes reflecting her inner turmoil. "I just didn't think it would escalate like this. I wanted to back up Peter, but now it feels like I made things worse."
"You didn't. And even if things do end up a little chaotic, it's not your fault. You were just trying to help." Vivian assures her and wraps an arm around her. "It's gonna be okay. Now come on, we're going to be late for our next class."
Izzy nodded and let Vivian lead her out of the locker room. They walked together through the halls, and Izzy tried to shake off her lingering doubts and worries. She just hoped that her uncle would agree to her request, and that everything would turn out okay.
****
After school, Izzy went to her uncle's workshop at the tower, finding him working on something. "Hey, Uncle Tony." She grinned.
"Hey, kid. Didn't expect you to come by tonight." Tony admitted.
"Yeah, sorry I didn't tell you, but um, I need a favor. Please, Uncle Tony." Izzy pouted, pulling the puppy dog eyes.
"Depends. What's the favor?" Tony asked, his voice monotone, but there was a smile on his face.
"Well, you see, um, my friend Peter's crush is throwing a party and I might've told my gym class you're my uncle and I'm sure by now the whole school knows about it." Izzy rambles and Tony turns to face her with a shocked look. "And I even agreed that you would come by the party to say hi. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that, but I needed to help Peter and I just blurted it out and-
"Hey, hey. Slow down, lightning bug." Tony interrupts her. "What's going on?"
Izzy let out a breath. "My friend Peter likes this girl and I didn't want him to look like a liar in front of the class and I may have told them that I'm your niece. Everyone started bombarding me with comments and questions. And I even agreed that you would come by to the party tonight and say hi. So please, just this one time, come by and say hi. You can just say hi and then you can leave. Pretty please." She pleaded, using her puppy dog eyes on him.
Tony sighs heavily, closing his eyes for a moment. "Fine."
Izzy perks up at that, surprised and in disbelief he agreed. "Really?!"
"But I'm only doing this because I love you." Tony told her.
"I know." Izzy smiles, hugging him. "I love you too. You're the best." She grinned.
Tony sighs, but he still hugs her back. "You're lucky I love you. But only because you're my favorite niece."
"I'm your only niece." Izzy chuckled.
"Still my favorite." Tony smirked.
****
Izzy was nervous. She doesn't usually go to parties, but she had to go to this one. She wore a black tank top, blue jeans with flowers on the sides, and white converse. Her hair was down and her makeup was done.
"So, is Tony coming?" Vivian asked her, walking with her.
"Yeah, he is." Izzy nodded.
"I can't believe he's actually coming. I didn't think he would." Vivian admitted.
"Neither did I. But I used my puppy dog eyes on him." Izzy chuckled and Vivian chuckled along with her.
As soon as they stepped into the house, there were already teens everywhere, dancing to the loud music or talking. There were some teens outside as well. Suddenly their attention is brought to Flash, who was the dj, when he had called out, "Penis Parker, what's up?"
Izzy and Vivian shares a look before they look over to where Peter and Ned were. "So where's your pal Spider-Man? Let me guess: in Canada with your imaginary girlfriend?" Everyone all laughed at Flash's question. "That's not Spider-Man. That's just Ned in a red shirt."
"I don't understand why people like him." Vivian muttered, looking angry as everyone laughed again at what Flash said.
"You and me both." Izzy agreed. She glanced over at her best friend in concern, knowing how much his bullying was affecting him.
****
As the party continued, Izzy noticed Peter wasn't around. Then she got a text from him. She got her phone out, eyes widening at seeing the text. Peter had said he had followed a blue explosion he saw to go check it out and that he might need back up.
Izzy was about to reply to him when she heard whispers and excited chatter around the house. "Izzy, you're gonna wanna see this." Vivian nudging her shoulder made her look up from her phone. She looked at her in confusion before following her outside where most of the others were.
Her uncle was outside, in one of his fancy cars. He had on a suit and sunglasses as well. "Oh my gosh, you're actually here." Izzy breathed out, seeing Tony step out of the car and she walked over to him with Vivian, hearing the surprised whispers around them.
"Well, I just couldn't say no to my favorite niece." Tony said, opening his arms for a hug. Izzy quickly hugged him, smiling.
"Thanks, Uncle Tony. It really means a lot." Izzy smiled, stepping back.
"Yeah, yeah, don't get all emotional. I'm not here for long." Tony said, taking off his sunglasses. He turns to everyone. "And I'm just hear to clarify to all of you, yes, she is indeed my niece and yes, I'm Iron Man. And just a heads up, anyone who messes with her, messes with me. That definitely means you, Flash," He calls out, pointing at Flash, who looked surprise that he knew who he was. "Yes, I'm talking to you. You ever mess with my niece or even Peter I'll know about it. Trust me, I'll know."
"Yes, sir." Flash nods, looking a little frightened.
"Good. And yes, Peter does work with me and have met Spider-Man and the other Avengers. I have heard Spider-Man was supposed to come on by and say hello, but I'm afraid he's a bit busy being a hero and all." Tony explains, covering for Peter not being there. "He told me to say hi to everyone."
"Well, that was very kind of him." Liz smiled.
"Alright, now I'm going. Have fun, be safe. Whatever." Tony waved at them and headed to his car.
"Thank you for coming. And covering for Peter. I appreciate it." Izzy admitted, smiling at her uncle.
"No problem." Tony reassures her, getting in his car. "Let me know if you need someone to pick you up." He then waves at Vivian before leaving. "Hey, Viv." Vivian grinned and waved back at him as Tony left.
****
The party had continued like normal after Tony left, but Vivian then sneakily left to go find Peter and help him out. And now Izzy is running alongside Peter, who is hanging on the side of a van by a web. Peter didn't really have time to explain to her, but from what Izzy got she understood that the men inside the van had some kind of weapon that was like the men had at the ATM and they needed to stop them from doing anything bad with it.
"This is the most stupidest idea you've ever had, Spidey!" Izzy yelled, running after him.
"And yet you agreed to it." Peter shot back, continuing to hang on the web.
"I couldn't just let you do this on your own!" Izzy protests. Her eyes widen when she noticed a guy in the back of the van with some anti tech gun shoot at them.
"Watch out, Spidey!"
Peter moves out of the way just in time as a bright purple blast of energy shot past him. It broke the right side of the back door, the door falling onto the road. Thanks to Izzy's super speed she had managed to avoid tripping over it. She noticed the guy went to shoot another blast, but as the van turned a turner the guy lost his grip on the anti tech gun. Izzy was quick to move to the side as the anti tech gun rolled out of the van and onto the road.
Izzy stopped in her tracks as Peter stopped, the door to the back of the van hitting a mailbox made of bricks.
"Great!" Peter sarcastically said. "Guess we're gonna have to take a shortcut."
"Okay, I'll meet you there." Izzy reassured him and then she took off down the road as he jumped over a fence. Izzy ran down the road, keeping an eye on Peter out of the corner of her eye. She was close to the van, thanks to her super speed she never lost sight of it. But when she suddenly heard familiar screaming, she stopped in her tracks and looked up. Her eyes widened in surprise as she saw Peter was being carried by someone in some suit that had wings.
"Oh, crap." She mutters. "Eve," She said to her AI in her suit. "Call Uncle Tony."
A/N gotta love tony being there for his favorite niece
