CHAPTER EIGHT

Peter was getting tired of climbing on top of cars to get to where the debate was and Izzy offered for him to hold on to her while she super sped there. And it was much faster than jumping from car to car. Peter had been trying to call Ned to warn him, but it took awhile before Ned finally answered the call. They managed to get to the Monument faster than what Peter had been doing with Izzy's super speed. Izzy suggested that she will meet up with the gang and make up some excuse for them to cover for them more and try to warn Ned. Peter had finally gotten him to answer, but Liz interrupted worriedly asking about him and Izzy.

Izzy felt really guilty about missing the Decathlon, but it was for a good reason. She and Peter just couldn't tell anyone. She pressed a button on her watch, making the suit disappear and show her regular outfit. She managed to catch up with the group inside the monument. "Izzy!" Liz calls out, looking and sounding relieved at seeing her. "There you are, where have you been? Are you okay? Where's Peter?"

Flash narrows his eyes at her. "Yeah, you guys missed the whole thing! We won without your help by the way." He bragged and crossed his arms over his chest with a smirk on his face.

Ned rolls his eyes, looking at Izzy with annoyance. "He didn't answer a single question."

Izzy chuckles, not surprised to hear that. Flash sends an annoyed look to Ned before looking back at Izzy. Flash looks around her noticing that Peter was missing. "And where's Peter? Was he so embarrassed that he missed it that he couldn't even show up here?" He asked, chuckling.

"What? No." Izzy shakes her head, her tone defensive. "I, uh, I got sick last night and Peter helped take care of me. I'm just now finally feeling better than last night. And, um, Peter overslept this morning since he was up all night studying and helping me out and he got late and now he's lost. But I told him where we were, so, uh, he should be here soon. It just might be a bit longer. That's all. Cut him some slack."

Ned rolls his eyes at Flash's attitude. "Yeah, Flash, Peter's a good guy. Lay off."

Flash huffed but backed off, still looking annoyed. Izzy took a deep breath, relieved to have bought some time. "Izzy, seriously, you had us worried," Liz said, stepping closer with a concerned expression. "I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm sorry, we had no idea you were sick. I could've come and helped you or sent someone over."

"Nah, it's fine, Liz. We had it handled," Izzy reassures her with a small smile. "Peter did a great job helping me. Thanks for worrying about me, though. It's much appreciated."

Liz gives her a reassuring smile. "Anytime, Izzy. I'm just glad you're feeling better now. Let me know if you need anything, okay?"

"Will do. Thank you. And listen, we both feel horrible for missing the Decathlon, but it was necessary. I hope you can understand." Izzy told her sincerely.

"I can, but it was still disappointing," Liz sighs, shaking her head. "Though don't worry about it. It's just a competition. I'm sure we'll have many more chances." She reassured her with a kind smile.

Izzy felt relieved to hear that and gave her a grateful smile. "You're right. Thanks, Liz. And congrats on the win, by the way."

"Thanks, Izzy," Liz grins, looking pleased. "Hopefully we'll get another chance. We did our best."

Izzy nods in agreement, knowing the whole team had worked hard to prepare for the Decathlon. Well, maybe besides Flash, but everyone else definitely tried their hardest. She follows the group inside the Monument when Ned pulled her to the side. "So tell me the real reason why you and Peter skipped the competition." He murmured, looking curious and excited to know.

Izzy sighs, glancing around to make sure no one was eavesdropping. "I promise you, Ned, it's a valid reason." She then quietly told him about how they were trying to stop the Vulture guy, explaining what happened earlier. Ned's eyes widened, clearly shocked and amazed at the news.

"Dude, that's insane." He breathed, shaking his head. "That's so cool."

"Yeah, I guess. But Ned, do you still have the glowy thing with you?" Izzy asked, sounding a little worried.

Ned blinks, realizing the glowing thing in his backpack. "Yeah, why? Is something wrong?"

"You could say that." She murmurs, biting her bottom lip. "Um, don't freak out, but-"

"Alright, everyone, it's time to go inside." Mr. Harrington called out, gaining the group's attention. He looks at Izzy with a smile. "Are you joining us inside, Izzy?"

Izzy notices Michelle was staying and she didn't want her to feel left out or anything even though she knew Michelle probably wanted to stay outside. "Nah, I think I'll stay out here, keep Michelle company if that's okay." She suggested, giving him a polite smile.

Mr. Harrington nods, not seeming to mind. "Alright, suit yourself. Have fun. Let's go, everyone."

After the rest of the group left, Michelle looks over at Izzy and raises her eyebrow. "You're staying behind?" She asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.

Izzy shrugs, offering Michelle a small smile. "Yeah, I just thought I'd hang back. Keep you company, if that's cool."

Michelle raises an eyebrow, her expression unreadable as usual. "Sure, why not," She replies casually, though Izzy could sense a hint of curiosity in her tone. "So spill it, what's really going on? You and Peter skipping the Decathlon, it's gotta be more than just a sickness."

Izzy chuckles, not surprised Michelle picked up on their cover-up. She sighs, figuring she'd just be honest. Plus Michelle was a good friend and she trusted her to keep this a secret. "Okay, but you have to promise not to tell anyone." Izzy began cautiously, glancing around to ensure no one was within earshot.

Michelle smirks, folding her arms. "I don't make promises, but I won't spread it around." She assured Izzy with a cryptic smile.

Taking a deep breath, Izzy decides to trust her instincts. "Peter and I were dealing with something...Urgent," She starts, carefully choosing her words. "There's this guy, the Vulture, and he's up to something big. We had to follow a lead, and it led us to a situation where we had to act fast."

Michelle's eyes widen slightly, clearly surprised by the news. She leans in closer, her expression curious and intrigued. "So you and Peter have been dealing with a dangerous criminal," She mused, her eyes sparkling with interest. "I knew there was something more going on. So what's this Vulture guy like? What's he up to?"

Izzy couldn't help but chuckle, finding it amusing and endearing how into this Michelle was. "He's not good, that's for sure. And he's got this suit. It's made from alien tech, I think. Anyway, we found out he and his guys were in a middle of a heist. And, uh, turns out they had some kind of bomb thing...And, well, Peter, Ned, and I ended up with one. Don't freak out or panic, but Ned still has it." Just after she said that, suddenly the top of the Monument began to crumble. The two girls watched with wide eyes while everyone around the Monument started murmuring and looking up at the Monument.

Michelle was still surprised, but she kept her cool. She glances over at Izzy with an amused expression. "Well, at least now we know why that happened." She joked, earning a small chuckle from Izzy.

"Yeah, pretty sure that's why it happened. I have a feeling I might have to go superhero mode-" Izzy pauses when she realized she hadn't revealed to Michelle she was a superhero yet. So that explained the slightly confused look on her friend's face. "Oh, right. Well, it's a long story. But basically, I got powers. Super speed." She chuckles nervously, hoping Michelle wouldn't judge her or think she was crazy. "And some other things that go with it. I'm the superhero Elektra, maybe you heard of me or not, whatever. Just please, again, don't tell anyone about it." She pleaded, not wanting her identity revealed to everyone.

Michelle nods, looking impressed. "Well, I won't tell anyone," She reassures Izzy, her lips quirking upwards. "That's pretty cool. And I'm surprised you trust me enough to tell me."

Izzy smiles, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "I trust you, Michelle. We're friends." She nudges Michelle lightly, making Michelle's smile widen a bit. "Besides, it's good to have another person know. Especially since you're pretty observant and all. You can be useful if needed."

"Aw, thanks," Michelle says sarcastically, though she did seem touched by Izzy's words. "That's sweet of you." She added, making Izzy giggle.

Just then, Peter arrived with his suit on, the eyes of his suit wide as he stared up at the Monument as it kept crumbling more. "That's not good, it's getting worse." Izzy mutters worriedly, watching as some parts of the top kept breaking. "Pete, we have to do something."

"Hold up," Michelle chimes in, eyes widening more when she realized something. "Peter is Spider-Man?" She looked over at Peter with surprise and disbelief.

"You told her?" Peter asked Izzy, raising his eyebrow.

"Ned knows so why can't Michelle know? She's one of my good friends, I know she will keep this a secret." Izzy replied, her voice a little defensive. She knew Ned and Michelle were trustworthy and she knew they wouldn't tell anyone about her and Peter being superheroes.

"Okay, okay, just we have to go. I'm gonna head up there." Peter told Izzy, not wasting another second before he started running to the Monument.

"Okay, I gotta hide somewhere to change to my superhero form," Izzy glances over at Michelle. "Keep a lookout for me, would you?"

Michelle nods, seeming amused. "Got it." She watches with surprise and an impressed look at seeing her super speed to a nearby oak tree big enough to hide her. "Cool." She mumbled, watching her speed back, now with her superhero costume on.

Izzy super sped to the building, using her super speed to run up the wall of it by Peter, who was crawling up the building as fast as he can. "Spidey, I'll go ahead and try to get everyone off safely."

"Sounds good, Electra," Peter calls out. "Be careful!"

"Will do, Spidey. You too." She sped up faster, easily climbing the building by using her super speed. With Eve's help, she found a window to use, making a small electrical ball to break it. After doing so, she climbs inside. "Hey, hey, hey! Everyone stay calm, alright? Everything will be fine." She announced, using a voice modifier to change her voice so people wouldn't recognize her usual voice. She always did this when she was with people who knew her and she didn't want them to know her identity. "I'll get you out of here as quick as possible."

"Yes, Elektra is here!" Ned shouted excitedly, relieved to see his friend made it to save them.

Meanwhile on the outside of the building, Peter was still climbing to the top. "Now I wish I had super speed." Peter muttered under his breath, breathing heavily as he continued climbing.

Back inside the building, Izzy used her super speed to grab onto each person to get onto the steady floor outside of the elevator shaft. Police Officers had arrived to help and she faintly heard a helicopter sound outside of the Monument. This wasn't good at all. She and Peter needed to get them all out now before something worse happened.

"Forget about the stupid trophy and focus on getting out of here safely!" Izzy scolded Flash when he was worried about the trophy being left behind. She couldn't believe he cared more about a dumb trophy than getting out of the Monument safe and sound.

"Elektra is right, Flash. Focus on getting out." Liz agreed, glaring at Flash with annoyance.

Flash's movement to try to get his trophy to one of the officers caused the elevator shaft to move down a little more, freaking everyone else out. "Dude, cut it out!" Izzy snaps, her tone harsh. He was getting on her last nerve with his selfishness and stupidity. "Stop messing around and be more careful."

As Flash got out safely, Peter flew through the window feet first, breaking the window. He slid across the floor, the doors to the elevator stopping him. He quickly shot a web at the elevator that dropped lower at his movement. Izzy was quick to super speed down, but she gasped when she noticed on her way down, the doors suddenly break off and sent Peter flying down into the elevator. His rough landing in the elevator made it drop more, causing more frightened screams from the people in the elevator. He quickly shot a web at the ceiling, stopping the elevator.

"Hey, how are you? Don't worry about it, I got you." Peter spoke in a low New York accent after clearing his throat.

"Yes! Yes." Ned excitedly cheered, grinning at Peter and jumping up and down.

Peter told him urgently to stop moving around while he began pulling them up. When they got to the floor, Izzy super sped everyone off the elevator. But before Liz could get out, the elevator moved and started falling. Liz screamed in fear as she started falling, but Peter quickly shot a web to grab her hand. Izzy sighed with relief, knowing she was saved. Peter pulled her up, reassuring she was okay. Izzy was faster than the others to bring Liz to safety when Peter got her to the sturdy floor. Liz kept telling Izzy thank you, hugging her arm while catching her breath. Izzy smiled and nodded at her, feeling pleased to have helped save Liz. She couldn't believe how close the elevator fell and how close it was for Liz to die.

"So, is everyone okay?" Peter asked in that low New York accent. Izzy rolled her eyes, looking at him with amusement. Her eyes widen, gasping when suddenly a chain holding a loose part of the roof that Peter was hanging on and he fell down.

"Hold on, Spidey!" Izzy super sped down to get him without hesitation. She rolled her eyes heavily when she heard Flash shout a question to Peter. Right now wasn't the time for that.

"Are you really friends with Peter Parker?"

****

It's dark when they get back home. Izzy and Peter had changed back to their normal clothes before they all left. Izzy was relieved to be back home and was glad everyone was safe. She sighed with relief at seeing her older brothers, Callum and Zander, waiting for her. "Oh, thank goodness, you're okay." Callum mutters, pulling her in for a tight hug. "When we saw what happened on the news, we got worried sick."

"I'm fine, Cal, don't worry. Everyone is okay." She reassured her brothers, giving them a small smile as she hugged him back, burying her face in his chest. She didn't realize how exhausted she was until then. She wanted nothing more than to get into bed and sleep.

"Yeah, we're just glad you're alright, Iz," Zander chimes in, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "That was a close one, though."

"I know, but I'm fine. I promise. Now can we go home? I'm tired and I want to sleep." Izzy yawned, leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Of course, let's go." Callum nodded after sharing a look with Zander. They guided Izzy to the car and headed back home. On the way home, Izzy curled up in the back seat and leaned her head on the window. Her eyes closed shut and she was drifting off to sleep, her mind filled with the day's events. It was a crazy, scary, and tiring day, but they made it. Everyone was safe and no one died, so that was good. But the Vulture guy was still out there. Izzy wasn't sure if he was going to be a problem in the future. Only time would tell, she guessed.

When they got home, Zander looked behind him and saw his sister sleeping. "And she's out." He chuckles, sharing an amused look with his brother. "I'll take her inside, can you get her things?"

"Yeah, sure." Callum nodded, unbuckling and getting out. Zander did the same, heading to the back of the truck and opened the door. Izzy stirred at the sudden movement, her eyes fluttering open.

"Oh, hey, sorry, Iz. Didn't mean to wake you." Zander apologizes softly, unbuckling her and helping her out. "Let's get you inside." He picked her up bridal style and carried her inside.

"Okay, night, Zand." Izzy muttered sleepily, curling up in his arms and closing her eyes again.

He chuckles, kissing her forehead and carrying her to her room. "Night, Iz. Sleep well." He carried her inside and to her room before pulling the covers back and placing her down in her bed. He tucked her in, pulling the blankets over her and tucking her in. He kisses her forehead once more, whispering goodnight before he left the room. Callum had came in to drop Izzy's luggage off in her room, smiling fondly at seeing his little sister asleep. He walked over and placed the luggage next to her dresser.

"Goodnight, Iz." Callum murmured, gently brushing her hair out of her face that fell in front of her face. He kissed her forehead and quietly left her room, closing the door quietly. He turned the lights off and walked away, allowing her to get some well deserved rest.
