I had no plans to update today, but since I wasn't getting any sleep and the target had also been completed, I decided to draft this one.....😊

Dev hurried through the rest of the rounds as he was very restless being on the same floor as Sonakshi.

"I will be in my office....just page me when you are ready for me later....." Dev told his residents and took the elevator. He could not focus on his work, he just stared at the blank computer screen.....why was she here?.....why was she still able to distract him so much?.....he wanted to forget her......

A little later he was paged by the intern, "sir, the MRI on room 408 has been done...."

"You mean Ansh Mehra" he had learnt to address patients by their name rather than room number many years ago....from someone.....who had taught him many things about life......one of them being BETRAYAL!

He saw Riya in the Radiology reading room. Riya was a radiologist now. As he checked out Ansh's MRI on the computer system, he said, "Riya...tum apni friend se toh mili hogi.....kyon aayi hai woh yahan? Delhi mein bhi toh achhe Neurosurgeons hain..."

Riya stopped what she was doing and looked at him, "Who would not want the best for their child?"

"Hmm...he is what 5 year old?....she left this place about 6 years ago.....bilkul time waste nahin karti tumhari friend......She is such a....."

"DEV! MIND YOUR LANGUAGE" Riya raised her voice, "Agar usske liye kuch accha nahin keh sakte toh don't say anything. Why don't you treat her son like any other patient of yours."

"Of course, Riya....you know I am a professional....just like her......except in her case she has made sleeping around her profession!"

"Dev! STOP IT OK! Tum jis ghamand se yeh sab keh rahe ho naa.....you owe it all to her....understand....she is responsible for what you are today....." Riya just stopped as Sonakshi had sweared her from saying anything about the past.

"I know.....I owe it all to her.....my anger, my mistrust for people....all my frustrations.....TO HER!" his eyes were red with anger, "lagta hai you have been in touch with her all these years......jhooth kaha tha tumne mujhse....."

"Yes, Rohan Mehra was my cousin ....."

"R-O-H-A-N.....OH! So she married him right after leaving Mumbai....tum toh gayi hogi wedding mein....Rohan had no idea what he was getting into...wonder if he ever saw her true colors" he laughed sarcastically and turned around to leave after reading the reports.

Riya followed him and said, "Dev, main bus yahi kahoongi.....Rohan bhaiyya knew her for the last 3 years only....he was very fond of Ansh.....I can't say anything more...." She walked off in the other direction.

Dev thought about what she said and then took the elevator to the 4th floor. He always discussed results of tests and risks and benefits of surgery with the patients himself. He did not leave it to the senior residents or interns to do that-again something he had learnt from someone in the past......

He knocked on room 408, where he saw Sonakshi sitting at Ansh's bedside and pleading him to eat his meal, "beta....khaana zaroori hai....aap phir kal bhi nahin kha sakogey...."

"Kyon...kal kya hai?" an angry Ansh asked

"Wo..wo..kal aapki surgery hai beta...."

"Kyon hai surgery.....main wapas ghar jaana chahta hoon...papa ke paas.." he started crying. Sonakshi hugged him and put him on her lap, ''Ansh...hum jaldi ghar jaayenge...promise....aapke roz sir mein dard hotha hai naa....surgery ke baad bilkul theek ho jaayega....."

Dev did not notice a tear fell from his eye when he saw this tender moment between mother and son, "May I come in?" he knocked.

Sonakshi got up and placed Ansh on the bed again, "yes...please...come in" as she adjusted her saree.

"I just wanted to go over the MRI results once again and discuss the risks involved
with surgery tomorrow and get a consent....."

"I trust you Dr Dixit." She hesitated to say "Dev" as she knew her voice would break every time she said that name. "I know you will do the best for my son....you don't need permission for anything....kahaan sign karnaa hai....?"

Dev looked at Ansh, who for a change had a smile on his face. Dev smiled back and thought, "He smiles just like his mom....that smile which can light up any dark room with it's brightness...." He shook his head as he was getting distracted again, "Thanks Sona....oh sorry....Dr Mehra...." Sonakshi could tell that it was probably as painful for him to call her by her first name just like it was for her to call him "Dev".

"Please call me Sonakshi, I am just a mother here, not a doctor..."

Dev just nodded and then looked at Ansh.

Dev raised his hand in a 'high-five" manner and was surprised to see Ansh reciprocate back with a big smile, 'HIGH-FIVE!"

Sonakshi smiled at last, "Thanks...for making my son smile....jab se Rohan...."

Dev looked at Sonakshi , "I am sorry to hear about your husband....", and then at Ansh, "beta, apni mom kaa kehna maan lo....eat your dinner...Ok...I will see you tomorrow...." Dev left with a smile on his face..... "aisa kya hai iss ladke mein.....aisa lagta hai usse pehle se jaanta hoon...."

That night Dev could not get any sleep. He kept tossing and turning in bed. Natasha was fast asleep; she often was asleep when he got home as her medications made her drowsy.

He walked to the balcony and stood there for hours thinking about the day gone by....Sonakshi's sudden re appearance....Ansh...his smile....his conversation with Riya.....why was he getting so disturbed by their presence....could Ansh be his...??? NO WAY....he thought given Sonakshi's track record......why were his eyes, which had been bone dry all these years, suddenly getting moist......????

Here, Sonakshi too had a sleepless night, thinking about Dev, their romantic moments and her sacrifice....

Many of you had rightly guessed that Ansh is Dev's son....👏

In 'The Life Changing Bet', Riya had distanced Devakshi....but here, she is gonna bring them closer....😉😀
