chapter 19
The room was dark and stuffy, so I turned on the lights. When I did, I was shocked by what I saw.
There were many boxes and bags on the floor. It seemed to be some kind of storage room.
I bent down and began to open them. I first went for the biggest looking box. When I opened it, I found pictures. Not of aunt June but of babies. What?
Most of the pictures were of two babies. Twins maybe. Aunt June didn't have babies so I was confused and slightly scared.
I opened some other boxes and saw that most were filled with baby stuff.
And that wasn't the creepiest part. I looked up at the wall and saw a hanged framed picture.
It was the only picture in this room.
As I was going to look at, it I tripped over another box. I stood up and opened the box and let out a gasp. It was filled with mirrors. They were of different sizes. I deduced that they were the stored up mirrors from the storms.
I continued my way over to the picture. My heart was beating even faster as I reached out and removed it from the wall. Another gasp left my mouth as I stared at the two babies.
This time names were written on each side of their picture. 'Cassie and Connie,' The names brought a shiver down my spine. Okay, I had enough.
I put it back and walked out of the room. I quickly returned the keys back to aunt June's room without getting caught since she was still in the bathroom.
If I wanted to leave before it was nothing compared to how I felt now. Who were those two girls? why did their names seem familiar to me?
I went outside to continue exploring when I noticed a shed by the side of the house. Luckily, it was open, so I didn't have to go and steal the keys again.
I look around the shed. It had mostly gardening and carpentry tools. I noticed something that was covered by a black tarp. I removed the tarp and saw that it was protecting a bike.
My face lit up with excitement as I checked it out. It seemed to be in good condition and it was really nice. I liked the color very much. Just black.
I could use this to get out of this place. Finally!
My happiness died down when I noticed two figures coming to the direction of the house.
Mina and her sister.
I wanted to hide but I knew they already saw me from the window of the shed.
Mina gestured for her to sister to go to the house as she approached me.
"I was just looking around the place," I blurted as I tried to hide the bike with my body. I mentally face palmed myself.
"You do know I can still see the bike," She said shaking her head.
"What are you planning?" She asked me her voice laced with suspicion. Could I trust her? Well, she already saw that I found a bike so she should have figured it out.
"I want to go okay, I want to see my mum. I'm tired of this place. Please, Mina, don't tell aunt June you saw me here," I begged her but she kept her face blank.
"I can use this bike and go and visit my mum in hospital. Please, Mina, don't let her know I've seen this bike," I pleaded again.
She sighed loudly. "I'm going inside," Then she walked out.
My heart rate went back to normal, but I couldn't help but feel uneasy.
I sneaked back into my room to pack my stuff. I was so happy. I could finally leave.
I left my box and some clothes behind since I won't be able to take them with me. After packing some clothes and putting them I my backpack. I snuck back into the shed.
Instead of seeing the bike. I was meet with a very angry looking Aunt June and beside her was Mina.
"I thought you were smarter than this!" Aunt June said angrily.
"I just want to go home. I just want to see my mum. Why won't you let me?" I asked her desperately.
Instead of answering me she took me by the hand and led me into the house.
"From now on, you are no longer allowed to leave this house!" She said once we reached the door of my room. Then she pushed me inside and locked it.
