~ Prologue ~
Gwen stood on the stage within a Club, the spotlights shining down on her, her make-up done - which was light, but her lips were dark ruby red. She was also wearing black strap high heels, with a beautiful black floor length gown, which made her breasts peaky as it was also strapless and had two small sleeves of sorts to hold it all in place. Her dark auburn hair was shoulder length, just above. Gwen's tips were wavy as she looked ever so beautiful.
The audience beyond the stage was full, people chatted at the bar and seats were taken in front of the stage as they all looked up to see Gwen standing there. They began to cheer and clap at her, making Gwen slightly blush at the warm welcome she is getting. She placed a gentle hand on the old fashioned microphone as she was ready to sing her heart out.
"You had plenty money 1922," Gwen's angelic voice boomed into the microphone and through the speakers as the pianist began to play. "You let other women make a fool of you. Why don't you do right, like some other men do?" The sweet keys of the piano began to do it's solo, as Gwen swayed side to side. As her voice sounded elegant and right for the old song. "Get out of here, and get me some money too," Gwen rolled her head around seductively, as she ready herself for the next part. "You're sitting there wondering what it's all about, if you ain't got no money, they will put you out. Why don't you do right, like some other men do?" Gwen's voice was soothing and gentle as she sang, she gripped the microphone softly as the pianist counited to play the song. "Get out of here, and get me some money too... If you had prepared Twenty years ago, you wouldn't be a-wanderin' from door to door. Why don't you do right, like some other men do?" Gwen's vocals soared through the air, as she did a little free styling 'oo' in-between the piano keys. "Get out of here and get me some money too... Why don't you do right, like some other men do?" Gwen longed the last few words out, as her voice was powerful and demanding. As the final longing note left her lips, the crowd began to cheer and clap once again, but more hyper as they stood to their feet.
Gwen smiles pleased as the spotlight began to dim slightly as wolf-whistles began to echo out. She bows her head, as she began to walk off the stage and down the steps as her heels echoed through her ears. As she reached the bottom step the clapping died down, and people went back to themselves. On her way to the bar, people told her how lovely she looked and how much they loved her performance. Though she took each compliment in, it wasn't from any of her family. It's been a lonely Thirteen years for her, she tried to keep track of her family and what they were up to over the years. She gained more information on some than others, but overall she knew they were alive and well. Gwen arrived at the bar, flagging down the bartender with a wave of her hand.
"What can I get you, Evie?" The bartender - who was called Joe - asked her. His hair was black and shaggy, his eyes hazel like a light chocolate. His facial features sculptured to the Gods and his jaw-line was sharp.
"I'll have a Vodka Martini, please?" He nodded his head with a smile, as he waltzed off and began to make it for her. Gwen spun around and lent against the bar counter, eyeing up the audience that counited to laugh and chat among themselves. She began to smile as she remembers the good old days with her family, all the smiling and the love she had for them. But her smile dwindled as the memories of the past crept up. Thirteen years of not seeing them or even a phone call. It broke her heart as they were so close as children...
"Here you are," the chirpy voice of Joe came to ear, bringing Gwen back into reality as she spun around. "On the house for doing an amazing job," he states in his lively tone once again. All she could do was force a smile and nod at him. She reaches for the drink with her left hand, and a small rounded tattoo of the Umbrella Academy sign caught her view. As Joe thought Gwen had it in her hand, he dropped the glass. However, Gwen was occupied with the tattoo and it slipped from her grip. Fast thinking, she flicks her right fingers out, and suddenly the Martini glass froze in mid-air. But her surroundings were quiet, the music stopped, laughter died all of a sudden. Gwen had frozen the whole room, with training from her Father she was able to control this ability and with age she advanced this power into something greater. Gwen shook her head and reached for the frozen Martini glass. Once in her grip the glass unfroze at her touch, as the liquid sloshed around in the glass. Gwen swirled her index finger and the room spontaneously unfroze, and the crowds continued like nothing happened.
"Great reflexes!" Joe exclaimed with a chuckle as Gwen just smiled at him and brought the glass to her red lips. She took a slip of the delicious drink as it slithered down her throat. As she removed the glass from her lips, the glass was stained red from the lipstick.
"Thanks," Gwen replied, placing the glass down onto the counter, and took her gaze back to her wrist. Seeing the Umbrella tattoo on her skin and what it meant to her, and what it will always mean to her. Out of the corner of her eye, Gwen saw a female news reporter talking silently on the TV - which was below the shelves of alcohol. It was the 24 hour channel and the time was 11:58 pm, Gwen was used to working late on nights, but the pay was decent. Gwen's face began to lose colour, she was turning white as a ghost, her eyes widened in shock as tears began to swell in them. The news was reporting the death of Sir Reginald Hargreeves, Gwen's Father. The image changed from her Father's picture to them all together as children, wearing those uniforms and masks he made them wear.
"Father," Gwen spoke softly to herself, rubbing the Umbrella tattoo on her wrist. She knew she would need to go back to the house where she grew up, where she bonded with her siblings.
"You going back on?" Joe's voice interrupted Gwen's train of thought, as her eyes met with him.
"No, I have to have a few days off. A personal matter just came up," Gwen told him half of the truth, as she offered a smile and began to walk away from the counter and to the exit. Thirteen years without seeing her family...
What will it be like for her walking back into the house?
