Chapter Twenty-Five: Bye Academy
I riffled through the images once again, finding comfort in most of them as back in the day, time was simple and we all had each other to talk too. I folded the image of us all together and placed it into my jeans pocket, I don't know why I did it, I just felt like I would need it later. I notice the knife Diego gave me a long time ago was stuck into my vanity table, as he put have gotten it from my coat when he brought Allison and I back to the house. I extended my left hand out as the knife flew from the table and into my grip, the knife sticking up. I stood from the bed, and went over to my coat and placed it inside the pocket. I shrugged the jacket on, finding it comfy to wear.
Suddenly, the house began to shake violently, things began to clatter to the ground, my vanity mirror cracks as did the windows in my room. Something was happening, and then an explosion rumbles through the house, as I rushed over and swung open my door and cocked my head down the hallway, to see Luther come out of Allison's room, and Pogo walking down towards them in a hurry.
"Yo, what the hell is going on?" Diego came out of his room and matched my pace.
"Where's those explosions coming f--"
"Vanya," Pogo spoke as we stopped inches away as this couldn't be happening. "We need to get to safety outside the Academy," Pogo gave us instructions as the house shakes as explosions echoed around us.
"Let's find Mom," I state to Klaus and Diego as they ran down the hallway with me, as we couldn't forget her. As we ran through the house, a couple of times we lost balance as dust fell from the cracks generating from the ceilings. As the house was going to crumble on us soon, and we needed a way out. We ran into the main entrance of the house, on the landing, as we was looking for Mom.
"Mom!" Diego yells out, hoping she could hear us. We stop at her recharging area, but she wasn't there. "Where is she?" Diego yells over the falling rubble from above.
"Mom!" Klaus and I shouted out, as we pass the grand staircase and went to the other side of the landing. We couldn't find her anywhere but the house crumbles to pieces and suddenly a bit of rumble hits me in the back of the head, making me go skidding forward as I was left dazed for a moment. I groan as I was coming back around, but at my feet I felt movement making me turn around to see Klaus shoving Diego as he looks up to see the celling cracking more and more. I shook my head getting the headache away, but as I reopen my eyes I see Klaus and Diego's legs going by into the other landing, which over looks the living room. And then a big massive chunk of rubble fell on the ground where they were, but lucky they weren't there. I slowly stood to my feet.
"Gwen!" Klaus's voice rang out.
"I'm ok," I managed to speak, while using the banister to help me stand. I step forward and got over the rubble, and came to them to see they were bleeding due to the rubble falling on us. I got under Diego's right side, hooking his arm around me for support as Klaus and I began to walk away as we were going to die if we stay in here any longer.
We ran as fast as we could through the house and to a side door that led down metal steps outside into an alley way, as that was our only escape route right now. I let Diego go, and Klaus went down first as the house was literally falling apart now. I kept the rear tight as my boots clicked against the metal, but in no time we managed to get to solid ground. Smoke began to fill the alley way as we came to stand a few inches away from the crumbling house.
"You ok? You ok?" Klaus asks Diego and I as his eyes flicked, but I nodded to him ensuring I was ok.
"Hey," Diego began, gripping Klaus's face and brought it to meet his gaze. "You just saved my left, man," he states pleased with Klaus at this moment in time.
"Ok, great," Klaus replied as Diego hugs the death out of him.
"Shit. Mom," Diego remembers who we were sent for, as his gaze lifted to a window of the house and we could see Mom in the window.
"Mom! Get out of there!" I yell out to her, hoping she would get out as fast as she could.
"Mom! Get out of there now!"
"Mom, get out of there! Mom!" Diego and Klaus began to shout over one another, as we waved our hands to Mom, but the building was crumbling to pieces.
"I'm coming after you!" Diego yells up, but I quickly latch onto his forearm stopping him from going back in there.
"No, Diego!" I yell over the falling rubble and the sound the house was making. Another blast echoes through the house, as tears fell freely down my cheeks as I see Mom blow us a kiss as this was good. I let go of Diego as Klaus had clung onto him as well. I flicked my hand out to the falling pieces of the house, hoping to freeze it all. But it just kept on tumbling from the house, brick by brick it never stopped. Many times I tried to freeze it, but I couldn't.
"Mom!" I cried out in pain as I was watching her die all over again. I could hear the sound of glass smashing, an explosion ringing out but Klaus grabbed me as he began to pull us all away from the falling rubble. We passed a point where it was safe and we watched the house we grew up in crumbled to the ground like it was nothing. My heart broke into pieces, watching as everyone memory in that house was destroyed, every happy thought shattering like the windows. I shut my eyes as I didn't want to see anymore..
Once the falling of rubble finished echoing in my ears, I peeled my eyes open to see the disaster of what lies in front of me. Our house completely destroyed, only left was fires and bricks of what it was.
"Mom!" Diego didn't waste anytime and ran back into the rubble. "Mom! Mom!" Diego began to move bricks out of the way, trying to search for our Mother, but he wasn't going to find her. "Klaus, Gwen, come here. Help me search," Diego begged us to help, as he continued to move stuff.
"Diego," Klaus began as he steps forward and grabs Diego shoulder. "Just stop it. Stop," he insists as he pulls Diego up from the ground.
"No, what-- What are you--" Diego began as Klaus pulls him up but he was resisting. "Let me go. What are you doing?" He stumbles out not wanting Klaus to get him up.
"Stop. Stop," Klaus pulls him hard and back to his feet. "She's gone. She's... She's gone, ok," he announces the hard truth to Diego, as I reach out and grabbed his hand and held it tight in mine as I know how much Mom meant to him - what she meant to us all.
"She's gone Diego, for good," I spoke choking out the words, as he squeezes my hand tightly, not wanting to believe it.
"What do you wanna do?" Diego began. "You wanna-- wanna..." Diego began to stutter the words out like he did when we were children, and my heart sank for him. "Walk away from this?" He managed to get his words under control as his eyes flicked between Klaus and I.
"No," Klaus spoke for both of us.
"What about Pogo?" Diego went on to ask, as we didn't know if he got out with the rest.
"He didn't make it," Luther's voice came out, making us all turn to the right to see him with Allison stepping over the rubble and towards us.
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
"Vanya killed him," he spoke blandly, as he didn't want to sugar coat it. I gasp in shock as I placed a hand over my mouth as I didn't want to believe that.
"But Vanya wouldn't-"
"No, I saw it," Luther cuts Diego off, as I tried to be strong right now, not wanting to cry. "Just before we got out," I lowered my hand, shaking my head as this was so messed up.
"Mom. Now Pogo," Diego breathed out as he let go of my hand, and slowly sat on a piece of rubble. His gaze not meeting any of us, as this was hitting us hard, but we all had to keep strong.
"Guys!" Five's voice echoed behind, making me spin around to see him stumbling through the rubble. "This is it. The apocalypse is still on. The world ends today," Five announces, as this just got so much worse.
"I thought you said it was over," Luther rushes out stepping forward.
"I was wrong, ok?" Five spoke holding a newspaper up at us. "This newspaper, I found it in the future the day I got stuck. The headline hasn't changed," Five rushes out, meaning that the apocalypse hadn't been avoided.
"No, that doesn't mean anything," Diego spoke, while shaking his head. "Time could've been altered since that newspaper came out this morning," Diego was not wanting to believe that this was still happening, onto of everything else. I rose my hand and placed it on his left shoulder, and gently squeezed, giving him comfort.
"You're not listening to me. When I fount it, I assumed this place came down along with everything else. But here we are the Moon's still shining, the Earth is in one piece, but not the Academy," Five explained throwing his hand up to the Moon then back to us as he was making his point clear. Without warning, Klaus snatches the newspaper out of Five's grip.
"I'm confused," he states, ripping open the newspaper and walked away.
"Then listen to me, you idiot!" Five raises his voice, taking a few steps forward. "Vanya destroys the Academy before the apocalypse," Five explained offering a sigh. "I thought Harold Jenkins was the cause, but he was the fuse. Vanya is the bomb. Vanya causes the apocalypse," Five exclaimed as his theory wasn't mad, but I still think it was impossible our Sister was the cause of the end of all life.
"We have to find her," Luther announces but before anyone could say anything, helicopters began to swam the house, as the blades whirled in our ears and spotlights shined down onto us. Diego shot to his feet as we all stared up at the helicopter. "We gotta go, now. Regroup at the Super Star. Go!" Luther ordered us to go, Diego grabs my hand into his and we ran from the rubble, Five went into a space jump. Luther and Allison went our way, and Klaus ran off in the other direction. Diego didn't let go of my hand as we ran through the streets, splitting off from Luther and Allison. I couldn't make sense of anything right now...
And that didn't sit well with me....
