Chapter Twelve: Adorable

Diego, Luther and I all walked through an alley way, no idea where we were going to take Five. But at least for now he was safe in the arms of his Brother. The day had turned into night, and the roads were busier due to people getting home and wanting to go out.

"Well, we can't go back to the house. It's not secure. Those psychopaths could come back at any moment," Luther pipped up as we walked further into the alleyway, the cold air hung to my clothing as a blanket.

"My place is closer. No one will look for him there," Diego spoke, suggesting that we could hide Five there for the time being. Five belches in the arms of Luther, making me cock my head to the right as I was walking beside them.

"If you vomit on me," Luther spoke up as we kept on walking as I felt like Five was going to vomit all over the place.

"You know what's funny?" Five spoke, his head bobbing up and down. "Aah! I'm going through puberty... Huh, twice," Five scoffs as he didn't imagine he would be going through it once again. "And I... I drank that whole bottle, didn't I?" He asks with a chuckle.

"Be glad it wasn't two," I remarked rolling my eyes at Five who looked at me with his head tilted back.

"That's what you do when the world you love goes bye-bye. Poof, it's gone," Five rambles out, his hand flow in the air for a moment to indicate the 'poof' word. But we had no clue what he was talking about. "What are you guys talkin' about?" Five asks, getting back on task with what we were here for.

"Two masked intruders attacked the Academy last night," Luther began, giving the information that we knew to Five.

"They came looking for you... So I need you to focus," Diego was demanding in his tone, as he wanted to get to the bottom of what was happening right now. "What do they want?" Diego asks Five, hoping to get an answer out of him.

"Hazel and Cha-Cha," he spoke two names.

"Who?" I asked as they could be their real names or they're code names.

"You know, I hate code names," Luther spoke eyes on Five.

"Ah, the best of the best. Except for me, of course," Five replied as he sounded happy with the last part.

"Best at what?" Luther questioned but Five reminded mute, as I could hear our footsteps in the air at the moment, and a few car horns here and there.

"You know, Delores always said she hated when I drink. She said it made me surly--"

"Hey!" Diego raised his voice and turned around making us all stop in our tracks.

"Hm? Yeah?" Five sounded so innocent with his reply.

"I need you to focus. What does this Hazel and Cha-Cha want?" Diego stepped closer to Five in the arms of Luther, but Five was quiet and smiling at Diego. "We just wanna protect you," Diego tone was soft and sincere as he meant it.

"Protect me. I don't need your protection, Diego. Do you have any idea how many people I've killed? No," Five rambles out once again, making no sense to either of us. "I'm the Four frickin' Horsemen... The apocalypse is coming," I couldn't tell if he was joking or being truthful in this state. He swiftly turns his head to the right - over Luther's arm and chundered onto the floor, but I recoiled at the sight and held up my hands and froze Five and Luther in their current state. I could see the vomit freeze mid-air and see it coming out of his mouth, connected all the way.

"Not on my shoes," I state aloud as there is likely to be splash back and it ain't getting on my shoes. I walk over to Diego who just smirks at me. "These are hard to scrub," I told him, as I came to stop to his left side. I pointed my index finger at them and gave it a swift turn and suddenly the unfroze and the vomit hit the floor and splashed everywhere like I knew it would. "Clean up on aisle Luther," I joked with a cocky smirk as I spun around and began to walk with Diego as Luther and Five sauntered behind.

"Can we talk?" Diego spoke making me turn my gaze to him with a raised eyebrow as we hadn't fully talked since I came home.

"About?" I asked, not sure which way this conversation with him would go.

"Earlier," he replied, as we kept walking through the alleyway. I sighed softly, as I knew that it would come up.

"I hate it when I see you both fight, even as children I was always there to stop you both, but the past thirteen years, I haven't..." I began, my eyes never leaving his gaze.

"We all left for a reason, Gwen," Diego spoke, telling the truth as we all left, but it was down to Ben which was the last straw for me.

"I left because I had dreams and ambitions to achieve, to live my life the way I wanted. Not the way our Father did," I went on explaining to Diego why I left. "I guessed I worked hard, having steady jobs, paying the bills and even found love for a short time," I slipped out as my head was cloudy with the day we've had. "But my thoughts always came back to the Academy, to our siblings and to you. I could never full wipe away my time there," I went on, as I offered a thin smile to Diego.

"I know how you feel, and let me guess. You're current job is singing," he spoke with a raised eyebrow, making me frown at him.

"Yeah, how did you-"

"Gwen, we were inseparable as children and I know you love singing. So I took a shot," Diego spoke as a boyish grin came to his face as he was just guessing at my career choice.

"Point to you," I replied with a smirk of my own, as we continued to walk to Diego's place. At the moment, I felt connected to my family once again after so long and I loved it. But I feel like I should share what happened to me over the years, what I did, who I loved and what happened... But I don't think I was ready...

..........................

Diego showed us into a gym, he was using the backroom as his home for exchange to mop the floors here and there. It was a roomy space at the back, we came down the steps, and into the room as Luther places Five onto the single bed as he looks so adorable as he sleeps. I came to the bottom of the bed, and sat on it, as my feet were aching in these boots. My gaze went to meet Five soundlessly asleep, as he needed it right now.

"Funny," Diego's deep voice came to my ears making me turn and look up slightly to see both Luther and him staring down at Five. "If I didn't know he was such a prick, I'd say he looks almost adorable in his sleep," Diego remarks making fun at Five.

"Well, don't worry. He'll sober up eventually. Be back to his normal, unpleasant self," Luther went on as he wasn't wrong about that.

"Yeah, I can't wait that long," Diego spoke, as he turns and walks away. "I need to find out what his connection is with these lunatics before someone else dies," Diego didn't want anything else dying because of those two.

"All that stuff he was saying before... What do you think he meant by that?" Luther was now faced to Diego who was messing with a radio nearby. The room became silent as they stopped talking. Footsteps from outside began to grow louder as we thought someone might have followed us, and we were on edge. Diego pulls free a knife and shot up the stairs, coming to the door, as we watch him creep closer. He grabs the door knob and ready himself, before ripping it open and recoiled his arm.

"You throw another one of those goddamn knives at me, I'm pressin' charges," an elder voice came loudly down to the room as Diego lowers his hand knowing the elderly man.

"What do you want, Al?" Diego spoke opening the door fully as the elderly man enters the room, the owner of the gym.

"I ain't your secretary," he spoke with sass, making me cock an eyebrow up at the cheekiness at his comment. "Some lady called for you, said she needs your help," Al spoke as Diego came back down the stairs.

"What lady?" Diego asked.

"I dunno. Some, uh, detective. I think she said her name was, uh, Blotch or somethin'," Al couldn't remember what the cops name was.

"Patch?" Diego corrected him, but he just shrugs at Diego, but he knew he was right. "She needs my help," he spoke with a smile, happy to hear the detective needs his help.

"She needs you to meet her at that motel, a dump on Calhoun," Al spoke as Diego shot up the stairs.

"When?" Diego asked, wondering how long ago she needed him.

"About half an hour ago. Uh, said she found your brother," Al spoke turning to leave as he did. But I frown in confusion as we have Five here, he was the one we were looking for. My eyes locked with Five sleeping soundlessly.

"Well, that didn't make sense," Diego spoke up, making me turn to look at him, we locked eyes and dread filled me.

"Klaus," all of us spoke in unison as we were stupid to not think of Klaus in this time.

"Go. I'll wait here with," Luther said but Diego was already out of the door, and it slammed shut. "Him," Luther's eyes came back over to Five sleeping like a baby. He's so adorable like this, not talking and not annoying the hell out of us. But it has me worried, what he spoke, I couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't faking it. That something bad was going to happen to us all...
