Chapter Ten: Mom

The next day began, the sun shining through my bedroom window, letting the warm rays hit me. I was sat at the vanity table, brushing my hair for a few moments, though it was only short, I could get some brushing done. The grey material jacket was wrapped around the chair I was on, ready to be placed on me when I needed to leave... I didn't sleep good last night, I was tossing and turning due to what happened and I was sore as hell. But late in the night I managed to fall asleep, hoping today was a better day than yesterday.

Suddenly, the was a swift knock at my door, making me cock my gaze too it, and waved my index finger and middle finger backwards, as the door creaked open fully as I could see Allison standing at the door way through the vanity mirror.

"There's something you need to see," Allison spoke softly as I nodded to her, brushing the last strands of hair and placing the hairbrush back down. I took a few seconds to stare at myself in the mirror, I could see a light bruise on my cheek, and a small cut on my lip, though it hurt at the time it came around. I knew they would fade like any other scar... I stood from the chair, grabbing my jacket in one swoop, and headed to the door. I followed Allison through the house, as Luther was on our tail. She took us to the main entrance of the house, but the first level where the portraits hung and that's when I saw it...

"Mom?" I spoke in shock as I rushed forward to see her deactivated and slummed in the seat. Her left arm was cut open to reveal her wiring, and it was cut and disconnected. I couldn't bare to stare any longer as I moved over to the side, and placed my hands against the banister, staring out. The air was silent as my heart broke as Mom was always good to us, loved us like we were her own. It didn't matter to me she was programmed like that, because she was more than her program.

"The two guys last night, the ones with the masks," Allison spoke, bringing me back into reality. "They did this to her. It has to do with Five somehow. I mean, they were looking for him," Allison suggested the idea, as they must have wanted Five for something, but what.

"I know I was arguing to turn Grace off, but it doesn't make seeing her like this any easier," Luther's voice rang out, but my thoughts went to Diego.

"Poor Diego," I pipped up, as I forced myself to turn around to look a Luther as Allison was perched next to me. "This is gonna be so hard on him," I announced as Diego always thought of Grace as a real Mother, more than anyone else.

"Yeah, it's hard on all of us," he replied in a slightly bitter tone, as he walks pass us.

"Luther," Allison began, making him stop in his tracks.

"Yeah?" He asks, his eyes not reaching hers as he didn't want to look at her.

"Are you ok? You know you can talk to us," Allison spoke for the both of us, as he knew he could talk to us whenever he wanted because we were siblings.

"I don't want to discuss it," Luther snapped back in a quiet tone, as he began to walk away.

"Hey, no," Allison pushes herself from the banister and latched her hand onto his arm, and came around the front, placing her hand on his chest, stopping him from advancing anymore. "Don't do that. Don't shut me out," Allison and him had more of a connection than him and I. "When I left, you were still-" She cut herself off, taking a sigh as she didn't know which word to use. "I mean, what... what happened?" Allison asked, crossing her arm over her chest with that woolly jumper on.

"Dad sent me on a mission," Luther began. "And it went, um... Badly," I couldn't move my gaze from Luther. "I almost died. He saved my life," Luther explained, he shouldn't have gone through that all alone.

"Uh.. Why didn't you tell me?" Allison spoke before Luther could move. "I-- I Could have helped you through it," Allison was offering her aid to him, if he just reached out and accepted it.

"I was fine... All right. I am fine. I don't need any help," Luther spoke strongly, thinking he could do this all alone.

"People are attacking our family," Allison replied. "I mean, come on. Talk to me," Allison reaches her hand out and touches Luther's left check, wanting to bring comfort and for him to talk to her. But quickly he grabs her wrist with his right hand, stopping her from touching his face.

"I can't. I--" Luther lowered her hand down from his face. "Please. Just leave me alone," he asked of her. "Both of you," his head turned to meet my gaze, not wanting my help either, he lets go of Allison's wrist and passes by her as Allison stepped to the side. We watch as Luther left, heading God knows where, leaving Allison and I in mere silence.

"I'm sorry for the other day," I finally spoke up as I felt Allison's eyes shift to me. "I shouldn't have had an outburst like that. Something just came over me and I-" I cut myself off as my words got lost, I couldn't explain the outburst without explaining what was wrong.

"It's all right. I understand," Allison replied making me grow a small smile as she was so accepting. "You know I'm always here for you if you need anything. Thirteen years is a long time away from one another," Allison reaches out and takes my hand into hers making me turn my head to state into her eyes.

"I know, I wish I could talk to you but we have a lot on our plates right now and I don't feel like it's the right time," I rush out as my eyes wondered her face as she held a soft expression.

"We always make time for one another. No matter what," she spoke with a smile on her face, as I nodded to her. Before I knew what was happening, Allison pulls me into a hug - a warm welcoming hug - as siblings do. I wrapped my hands around Allison and pushed the hug deeper, finding comfort in the moment we have. I've forgotten how bad I've missed her, missed the long talks we used to have, the warming moments.

"Thank you," I appreciated Allison right now and for the long run, she will always be my Sister.

...............

*Five Years Ago*

The waitressing job was still going strong for Gwen, she was thriving and still loving it. Simon and her got on more after the accident at the restaurant, becoming closer with each week. Within a few months they began dating, and they enjoyed one another's company. Gwen would tell Simon stories of her time at the Umbrella Academy and what her siblings were like. Simon loved the stories, it was so fascinating to him to hear the stories of the Umbrella Academy and he would ask so many questions to Gwen, some she wouldn't answer...

Simon and Gwen walked hand in hand through the local park. Both been dating for four months now and they spent time the most time together due to them working together and when they had days off they would go on cute little dates and partake in other pleasures. They had just been out on a date, Simon was dressed to the nines - he wore a tuxedo with a black bow tie. Gwen was wearing a beautiful outfit, she has a black tank top, with a knee length fitted skirt, opened toed heel heels, and to top it off, she was wearing a nude coat, with her handbag in her clutch.

"It's been a wonderful evening," Gwen's voice soared through the chilled night air, but it brought a smile to Simon's expression.

"I've had an amazing woman by my side," Simon replied making Gwen blush and giggle at his comment, as he was truly a gentleman. They swayed through the park, finding an empty bench nearby, and took their chance by sitting on it. "Gwen," Simon began, his husky voice trembled slightly, as if he was nervous. "I know we've been dating about four months or so. And I really loved spending time with you," Simon explained and her heart filled with joy with each word he spoke. "I've not been sure on most things in my life, but being with you, making you laugh and see that cute smile has been the best thing in my life. And I'm so sure of you - of us," Gwen was blushing ever so faintly, maybe it was the cold air that clung to her cheeks, or the way Simon spoke. "Guinevere Hargreeves - my favourite member of the Umbrella Academy," Simon stood up, and placed his hand in his pocket, his body turned to Gwen, her eyes widen in shock as she thinks she knows what's going to happen. "Would you do me the honour of becoming my wife?" He got down on one-knee and pulled a black valet box free, before popping it open. Inside was a ring, it was a Rose Gold colour, as the ring was twisted to look like an infinity eight, and sat in the centre of the ring was a shining diamond, and along the twisted metal was smaller diamonds. Gwen was speechless, she was shocked, but most of all she was happy...

"Yes!" Gwen exclaimed. "Yes!" She repeated herself as she fought back the tears in her eyes. Simon chuckles with a wide smile, as he pulls free the ring from the valet box and onto her four finger of her left hand, it slipped on with ease and clung to her finger as it was a perfect fit. Simon rose as the deed was done, but before he could get a chance to do anything, Gwen flung herself onto him, wrapping her arms around his neck and began to kiss him passionately.

"I love you," Simon spoke between kisses as Gwen was over the moon.

"I love you too," She replied without hesitation, without fear of him not loving her, because she knew he loved her with all the love he could give. Gwen longed for a husbanded, a family she could call her own, she was a 25 year old woman, and she could now begin to settle down in this life.

But not all things goes to plan. Sometimes bad things happen to good people...
