Chapter Sixteen: Day I Wished

When we arrived back at the house, I had gotten the bullet out of Diego's forearm and tried my best to patch it up with his guidance of course. He had to wear a arm sleeve so he doesn't move it at all and keep it in place. But today was a new day, Wednesday, around 8:15 am, as Allison was handing out cups of coffee to everyone, but Vanya wasn't here currently.

"Three days?" Allison spoke, handing a coffee cup to Luther as he was sat at the bar. Diego and I were sat on the side couch as opposite us was Klaus sat on the floor in front of the other couch. A warm cup of coffee sat in my hands, as my leg was over the other.

"That's what Five said," Luther answered to Allison's question.

"The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it. He just left out the part about how soon," Klaus explained when he had his adventure with Five, coming to sit crossed legged on the floor.

"But can we trust him? I don't know if you've noticed, but Five's a little-" Allison raises her index finger to her head and did a little twirl with a whistle, indicating he's been a little loopy and mad since he came back.

"Our little psycho," Klaus remarked.

"He was convincing when he talked about it," I added to the conversation as eyes landed on me. "And I believe him about the whole apocalypse," I told my siblings the truth as he was trustworthy and why would he lie about the end of life.

"If he wasn't trying to stop an apocalypse from happening, those lunatics wouldn't be chasing him," Luther chimed in, his eyes flickering between us all.

"That's why they were after him?" Diego questioned his eyes on Luther.

"Yeah," Luther replied as it was a short answered question.

"What did Five even seen?" Allison asked her gaze was at Luther, but my own drifted from hers, as I was there when he told Luther. I brought the cup to my lips, and tilted it back as warm liquid rushed down my throat, warming my stomach up.

"Uh. Apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible," Luther explained as his eyes darted between us all, looking kind of sheepish as he was trying not to tell them that we all died. He remains quiet for a moment, as he didn't know where to look.

He clicks his tongue. "Ok. So, here's the plan," Luther began, raising from the stool and walked passed us. "Uh, we go through Dad's research--"

"Wait, what?" Allison began as Klaus and Diego 'whoa' a few times as they were all speaking at once.

"Wait a tick, wait a tick. What actually happened the first time around?" Klaus asked, his gaze on Luther looked uncomfortable with the question.

"Yeah. What are you not tellin' us?" Diego questioned, as I tucked my body in, looking away from anyone's gaze right now. "Come on, big boy, spit it out," Diego went on taunting him to tell us, but my eyes met with his, as we shared a look.

"Wait, Gwen you know?!" Allison's voice brought my gaze to her, as she gives me one of her raised eyebrow looks.

"Yes, I was there when he told the story," I replied to her, bringing the cup to my lips once again and taking a big gulp. The room was silent, the air thicken with tension as they were waiting for me to tell them. "Whoa, Luther should tell you," I directed my gaze to Luther, hoping everyone would follow. He took a sigh, raising his cup slightly like he was going to drink it.

"Uh. We died," he spoke in a low voice, and quickly took a drink of his coffee.

"What was that?" Allison asked, not quite hearing him correctly.

Luther lowers the cup down and coughs. "I said, uh, we died," he spoke loudly than before, as everyone in the room stopped to process what Luther had said. Suddenly, the umbrella that was near by dropped onto the floor, and pops open letting out a scream from Klaus all in one second. But we all needed a say in this, to discuss the possibilities...

....................

We were all gathered around the bar, talking - but it felt like we were all arguing at this moment in time. Diego and I were behind the bar, as I placed my elbows on the counter, my hands under my chin as I was leaning into them.

"No, we need to figure this out," Diego spoke from the side of me, as we've all been talking back and forth about the end of the world and what could possibly end it.

"Is it just us?" Allison asked.

"It's everyone," I announced back to her as it was all life on Earth.

"In this house?" Diego asked his question.

"The whole planet?" Then it was back to Allison.

"No, outside the house. Everyone died," Luther spoke, taking it in his stride to talk.

"Hey," a different voice from the group rang out, making me perk up off my elbows, to see Vanya with some dude beside her. But our siblings took their gazes to her, and this guy. "What's going on?" Vanya asked, I did say to the rest that we should call Vanya and ask her to be here, but they didn't seem to want her here.

"It's a family matter," Allison spoke after she locked eyes with Luther before looking to our Sister.

"A family matter," Vanya didn't sound too happy about that. "So of course, you couldn't bother to include me," Vanya spoke as she was always one to be left out or the last to hear about what was going on.

"No, it's not like that. We were-"

"Please, don't let me interrupt," she spoke but began to walk away from us.

"Vanya, wait," Allison began, strolling across the floor and towards her. "I'll fill you in later when we're alone," Allison didn't want to say much as there is a random guy in our living room with Vanya.

"Please, please, don't bother," Vanya raised her voice at Allison. "And I won't either," Vanya was being mean to Allison.

"Vanya, that's not fair," Allison replied her tone hurt slightly.

"Fair?" Vanya snapped back. "There's nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember... And I used to think it was Dad's fault, but he's dead," Vanya spoke with conviction as her eyes darted over to us at the bar. "So it turns out you're the assholes," my mouth hanged agape as she turns and leaves the room.

"Ouch," Klaus opens his mouth as I just shook my head at him. Allison comes back over with a blank look on her face as she didn't know how to feel right now about that.

"I'm gonna go find Vanya and explain," Allison spoke up, turning back around, wanting to find our sister.

"No, wait, there isn't time," Luther states, making Allison stop in her tracks. "We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse," Luther explained making Allison turn swiftly back around to face us. "Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids. But I'm thinking this is about the Moon. Right? Dad must have sent me up there for a reason and I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples. The first thing we need to do is find his research," Luther was kind of boring us with this, as that what Klaus's face suggested to me.

"Hold on. Hold the phone. We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?" Klaus states a very good point.

"Klaus, shockingly, has a point. What gives us a win this time?" Diego spoke up, now behind me as he was throwing a knife in his hand and catching it.

"Five. Last time we didn't have him. We weren't all together," Luther counters Diego's question, as I see Klaus gag to himself and groans as he comes off the stool. "This time, we'll have the full force of the Umbrella Academy. That's what we need," Luther was dead set on us being together and banding to stop this.

"So, where's Five now?" Allison pointed out as she takes steps closer to the bar.

"Yeah, where is he?" I asked, as he was with Luther yesterday.

"Well, he had a plan to change the time line. He'll be back soon," Luther calmed our worries about Five.

"I'm going after Hazel and Cha-Cha," Diego said with confidence as he came around the bar and pass Luther and Allison.

"What, right now?" Luther asks, as he wanted everyone at the house so we could sort this out.

"Hell, yeah. Three days. I'm losing light by the minute," Diego replied as he couldn't just go off on his own.

"Wait, Diego. Look, I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got a bigger problem here,"

"She wasn't just some friend, Luther," Diego spoke over Luther as he turns back around to face him, anger in his eyes. They must have be close, and he was hurting right now. Mourning, and this was the only way he could show it, by going after the guys that killed her. "If I'm gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first," he was so full of anger as I came around the side of the bar and stood next to Luther. "It's not about Dad. It's not about me. The longer I wait, Hazel and Cha-Cha are getting away with it... Stop making it about you," Diego told Luther the hard truth as he walks away.

"Diego, you'll get killed in the process," I spoke coming forward but Diego kept on walking, through the archway and to the main entrance, making me chase after him. "Diego!" I raised my voice once again, but he stops just after the chandelier.

"You won't make me change my mind," he states to me, as I stopped in front of him.

"I know that, don't you think I know it," I raised my voice at him, my eyes staring deeply into his. "This woman must have meant a lot to you, deeply. And I know what it's like to love someone. But going off to get revenge for her isn't the way, you'll end up dead," my voice became quiet with each word I spoke. I took a deep breath, collecting my thoughts, but I didn't have the courage to talk.

"I don't care! I want Hazel and Cha-Cha dead!" Diego voice was raised as he was in pain and he needed someone to help him but his ways are not so simple.

"Guess I'll see you in the afterlife then," I was bitter and cold towards him as I turned and walked away. I couldn't deal with him right now, I couldn't...

But I always will, because I was too forgiving when it came to my siblings...

....................

Awhile later, I was sat in the living room on the couch near the fireplace, a glass of whiskey in my hand, as I've had a few, but they were small amounts. I stare up at the portrait of Five looking smart and handsome in his uniform. I smiled at the painting, as tears rolled down my cheeks, as I let out soft sobs, three days left to live and I have no one beside my family in my life. Simon was the only one who got me, who loved me for me, and I fucked it up... I let out an angry scream, as I threw the glass of whisky into the fire, glass smashing sending the liquid over the fire and glass to the pits.

"Hey! What's wrong!" Allison voice echoed from behind me, making me turn to see her expression holding worry. I felt the tears slip down my cheeks as her gaze softened.

"It's all my fault," I sobbed my as Allison came rushing over and sat beside of me on the couch, taking my hand in hers.

"What's your fault?" she asks clearly concerned for me but I remained quiet, not wanting to speak about what happened in the past. "Gwen, please talk to me," she begged me to converse with her, to tell her the truth.

"It's hard for me, it's hard to talk about," I spoke sniffling up and wiping away the tears with my free hand.

"I'm always here for you, you know that," Allison said with confidence as I knew she will always be here for me no matter what. I took a few deep breaths, readying myself to tell Allison the truth.

"I had a fiancé a few years back, his name was Simon," I began as I couldn't be scared to tell her the truth. "We met through work, and within months we dated, and in the next few months he popped the question. There was no doubt we were in love, and he knew about my past here at the Academy," I continued, fighting back the tears that swelled in my eyes once again. "After a few months of being engaged I-I found out I was pregnant. I couldn't have been happier nor could he," I squeezed my eyes shut as I can see picture and hear what happened that day. "Six months down the line, everything was well, I went to my appointments, scans, everything. But one day, I went into labour - early, and I was rushed to hospital..." I began to choke the words out as they were painful on my heart but the tears came freely down my cheeks. "The baby was so early, and there was nothing the Doctors or nurses could do to help," my eyes travelled back to Allison who had tears in her own eyes. "I had a baby girl Allison, she was so tiny and I held her for mere moments before they took her away," I cried out the words as she squeezes my hand so tight for comfort. "It tore me up, I was at my lowest for the next few months, and Simon tried his best, but I couldn't do that to him," the words got lost in my mouth as the sobs came out instead. Allison quickly wraps her hands around me, and brought me into a tight hug.

"Oh Gwen," her own voice cracks in sadness, as she hugs me deeply. "Why didn't you call! Or reached out to one of us," her voice cracks once again, deeply feeling sorry for me.

"We hadn't talked in years and I felt so alone," I sobbed the words out as it was the way I felt back then. "I should have called you," I choked out as I kept on hugging her. "I should have called," I repeated as my voice was low as I wept and wept into her hug as I didn't know how to feel...
