Chapter One: Reunion

The sun shined from above, the day clear without clouds in sight. I stood in front of the house that was my home for seventeen long years and was filled with so many memories - that I could not easily forget. My eyes lingered up and down the building as I felt my heart beat quicken in my chest, banging against my ribcage. I took a few deep breaths, calming the rate of my heart as my eyes met with the gates that lead to the front door. With one final deep breath I put my best foot forward and walked to the gate. My hand reached out and sung the gate inward as it creaked ever so slightly. I came face to face with the double doors, the glass stained windows were the symbol of the academy. Umbrella...

I grip the right door handle and push open as it was unlocked, the door opens as I slip inside feeling the warm welcome of the house. I took each step with care as my heels clicked against the marble flooring as I entered the entrance of the house. It was like I remembered it, the big staircase at the back, splitting off at either side that led up to a landing - where portraits of landscapes and people were hung. A chandelier hung in the same position as it always was. I didn't even notice I moved into the centre of the room, standing under it. This place hasn't changed one bit since I was a child.

My attention turned to the living area to my right to see Mom, by the fireplace where Five's portrait was hanging. I slowly passed the wide pillars and through the archway into the massive living room. My heels clicked against the floor as I came closer to Mom, just staring blankly into space.

"Mom?" I asked gently, coming to stand beside her, but she never turned her head to look at me. "It's me, Guinevere," I reached out and touched her shoulder, but she never turned to look at me.

"Gwen?" A husky voice echoed out from my right, making me spin in that direction to see a familiar but scarred face.

"Diego?" I asked with knitted eyebrows as I came around the couch. He was wearing a black outfit, fitted with leather straps to hold his knives. My eyes searched his facial features on the way, as I found myself compelled too. As I was looking him up and down, he himself was examining me.

"It really is you," he replies as his dark brown eyes meet mine, which I couldn't help but fully smile at him. "Never forgot that smile," he states as my smile began to fade, as heat rose in my cheeks.

"Thanks," my gaze never left those brown eyes that I so remember. "It's good to see you again Diego. It's been too long," I announce to him, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Yeah. It has," he states in a blunt way, but before I could get a word in he brushes past me and begins to leave the living area. I let out a breath of air, as this wasn't the way I imagined we all getting back together. After a moment, I followed his steps leading back to the entrance hall. "Ah. What is she doing here? You don't belong here. Not after what you did," Diego spoke bluntly as I came around the corner to see Vanya and Allison. But stopped as I leant against the door frame to the living area.

"You're seriously gonna do this today?" Allison states, putting her hands into her pockets and turning to look at Diego walk away from them and up the stairs. But he didn't reply, he kept on walking. "Way to dress for the occasion, by the way," Allison spoke up, trying to taunt him in a way.

"At least I'm wearing black," he remarked bluntly once again, as he was out of sight.

"You know what? I-- Maybe he's right. And I shouldn't--"

"Forget about him," I popped up as Allison and Vanya's head snapped my way to see me now standing in the doorway. "Vanya, Allison. It's been too long," my eyes flickered between my Sisters as I came forward.

"Gwen?" Vanya's voice was soft and small like it had always been.

"It's good to see you both," I announced to them as I I went in for a hug. Vanya accepted, but it only lasted a few moments. I pulled back and wrapped my arms around Allison and squeezed her into a big warm hug.

"We're glad you're here," she states as we pulled back, as I offered her a smile. They both grew up so pretty and into fine women. I also read Vanya's book she published about her life at the Academy and all of us. Personally, I thought it was a big move to take, but it didn't bother me.

"Do I have to wear black? I'm in dark red pants," I chuckled slightly as I tugged on my pants as I saw them both smile at my comment.

"Still can make people smile I see," Allison replied to me, as it was more of a compliment. I met her gaze and gave her a nod but my smile faded like the sun setting.

"Yeah. But what is there to smile about," I added, but my voice was gloomy and distant. Allison and Vanya looked at me with worry, like I was fragile and ready to break into tears at any moment. "I'll see where Diego went too," I spoke before they could ask. I brush past them and to the stairs, stepping on each of them as the sound of my heels clicked.

My way around the house was like a piece of cake, I knew where I was going. I knew every room that was in this house, and could walk it blindfolded. I made my way to where I imagine Diego was, and that would be our Father's room.

"Well, that's because I- broke into the coroner's office," Diego's voice got louder as I neared our Father's room. "And surprise, surprise, Dad's death was... normal," Diego carried on as I stopped outside the door, listening in on their conversation. "Just a boring, old heart failure," Diego always hated our Father, he thought he was heartless and cruel to us.

"Yeah, so?" A deep voice came into play as I peek around the door to see a big muscular guy and I knew straight away it was Luther.

"So, why are you in here, checking all the windows?" Diego was asking Luther questions about why he was in here, if Dad's death was normal.

"Were you the first one on the scene?" Luther asks, his eyes meeting Diego's as I leaned back against the wall and listened.

"Pogo found him," Diego was quick with his reply as I remember Pogo he was the talking monkey and was kind of like a Father-figure when our own Father wasn't.

"Yeah, I talked to Pogo. He said he couldn't find Dad's monocle," Luther states to Diego.

"And your point being?" Diego asked as he didn't really care about this monocle of Dad's.

"Can you think of a single time you saw Dad and he wasn't wearing that monocle?" Luther questioned as it was true, he was always wearing that thing. In his study room, when we all ate, training, he always had it on him. I thought it was glued on. "No. Which means someone took it. Which means there's a chance he wasn't alone when he died,"

"There is no mystery here. Nothing to avenge. Nothing to solve, nothing like that. It's just a sad old man who kicked it in a big empty house. Just like he deserved," Diego was harsh in his words, and I knew he meant them. I pushed myself off the wall and walked into the room as I felt the tension from here and needed to intervein.

"Diego," my voice was stern as both Luther and Diego turned their heads to me. "Please, no fighting today," my voice soothed out into a soft one as I stopped in front of them.

"Gwen?" Luther spoke with amaze as his eyes travelled up and down me. My own eyes gazed over to him as a smile crept onto my face.

"Little Evie reporting for duty," I did a small silly salute to Luther as he cracked a smile, but I see Diego's face not change a bit, just wearing that scowl and shaking his head. "God you've grown," my eyes wandered up and down his muscular body shape. He seemed to become uncomfortable under my stare.

"It's the protein shakes," Diego remarks, making Luther turn his gaze to him.

"You should leave," he states calmly but Diego knew he meant it.

"Whatever you say... Brother," Diego spoke as he backed away from us before spinning around, his footsteps fading from ear as he left the room. I let out a sigh as this isn't the family reunion I hoped for.

"Somethings don't change," I spoke to Luther as my head tilted up to meet his eyes.

"But you have," Luther spoke, catching me off guard, making me raise an eyebrow up to him in confusion. "I mean in a good way!" Luther corrected himself. "You look great," his eyes wandered to my shape and outfit choice.

"Thank you," I smiled softly to him as our eyes were locked on each other, and the air was silent for a moment. "Only people I haven't seen are Klaus and Pogo," I said, cutting into the silence of the room. "So I'm off to find them,"

"Yeah, I'll see you later," Luther rushes out a bit as I nod my head to him before turning around and heading for the door, and leaving him behind. As I walked through the many hallways of the house, I reached back to the entrance of the house, before going down the stairs. I passed the portraits as my way back to the stairs, but I could hear someone climbing them. I stopped as I could see Klaus reach the top step as he stared at me.

"Gwenie?!" Klaus' eyes widened in surprise. Without warning he closed the gap between us and crushed me into a hug. I latched my arms around his neck. "Oh it is you!" We began to jump around in the hug, doing a small circle as he was excited to see me. We pulled apart as he rested his hands on my shoulders. "Little Gwenie is all grown up! And pretty!" Klaus was his natural-self and I loved that.

"And you have that same energy," I replied with a chuckle. "Out of rehab?" I asked as I noticed the band on his left wrist.

"No, no, no," he dropped his hands from my shoulder and pulled down his coat. "I don't do that anymore," he said, dismissing my comment, but I didn't believe him as this was Klaus.

"Do you know where Pogo is?" I asked as Klaus' eyes met back with mine.

"I think he was in the living room last," Klaus states, as he began to walk away to the end on the other side of the staircase as he was heading to Dad's study. He stops as he feels my eyes on him, and turns back to face me. "Later Gwenie!" He waves his hands in a fast motion, as I couldn't help but chuckle softly at his action, before taking the stairs down back to the entrance. My heels clicked all the way down to the last step, but I saw Pogo enter the entrance area.

"Miss Guinevere," his voice was British as he came closer to me, using a cane. He was dressed smart, in a brown suit and few different colours on his tie. His small glasses sat on the bridge of his nose, as he was smiling at me.

"Pogo, it's lovely to see you," as we reached one another, I lent down and gave him a tight hug as he did the same to me. He let out a 'hmm' sound as he was enjoying the hug, and so was I. After a few moments of a warm hug, we pulled back and I stood back straight.

"You've grown into a fine young woman," he states, complimenting my appearance and how well I've grown.

"I doubt I'm a young woman anymore," I chuckled as I was Twenty-Nine, I'll be Thirty in seven months, as will all my siblings be.

"Nevertheless, you turned out to be a brave and selfless woman," he continued as he was just making me smile. "You know this will always be your home, and they will always be your family," Pogo nodded his head up, as we were all scattered among the house. My smile thinned as he was right, they will always be my family.

"You're right. But at the moment, we're not a happy family," I replied to him, my smile faded, as I was left there wondering if we will ever be a family again, we were all damaged in our own way by our Father's upbringing. Some more than others...
