Strings and puzzles
"Saekki, can we talk?"
"Yeah, sure zvezda." Cole looked up from his book and glanced at the idol, a questioning look on his face. "What do you want to talk about?"
Ye Jun sat down on the floor and leaned his weight on the coffee table next to him. "I saw him in the round today."
"...Oh." Cole nodded, looking away. "So you did."
"He looked as beautiful as he always does, you know?" Ye Jun glanced at the werewolf, trying to gauge his response.
"Okay." He went back to reading his book.
"Saekki,we have to talk about this." Ye Jun went to sit next to Cole, watching him quietly read his book.
"I know but, how do we go about it? Do we what? Break up so you can go back to being hammer crazy about him?" His ears drooped. Sometimes, he felt like they were getting nowhere in terms of progress.
"That's why I wanted to talk to you." Ye Jun kept looking at him. "I know you feel the same away about the cameraman. You have that faraway look after a round with him."
"I know, I'm sorry." He hugged himself and looked away. He wanted to avoid conflict because he knew they were both forces to be reckoned with. One had brute strength and dangerous animalistic features, and one was unhinged and could swing a hammer the right way.
"Listen saekki, I don't want us to break. Not yet." Ye Jun shook his head. "I want to talk about it properly. We have to."
Cole nodded. "Okay. How do we talk about this?"
Ye Jun looked up at the ceiling. "Sometimes, I feel like uhm... You know the red string theory?"
Cole looked up. He was all for the red string of fate. The red string of fate is a string that connects one person to another. If two people are connected by the red string, that means they're soulmates. Cole sometimes claimed he knew who had the other end of his string. "Yes."
"I feel like... You and I don't share the red string." Ye Jun started. "We're together, but my red string is attached to Dae Jung, and your red string is attached to the cameraman."
Cole nodded and looked away. "I see. That makes sense, we don't make sense most of the time. You and Dae Jung do, and Eiji and I do."
Ye Jun nodded. "We don't always make sense. That's the downside of us."
"What do we do? Your strings are tied to Dae Jung's heart, my strings are tied to Eiji's." He sighed weakly. They've been through this countless of times. They found it hard to let go of the one who had the other end of their string. They could've been perfect, if the circumstances didn't shove them into a corner.
"We let it be." Ye Jun glanced softly to him. "Our strings aren't connected to each other, but we're just not fit to have the one at the other end of our strings. It sounds hard to understand, I get it."
Cole looked at him, looking down then up again. "You know, it's okay if you're not the person at the other end of my string. You're the person next to me right now."
"It doesn't go away." Ye Jun admitted. "My love for Dae Jung will never fade. I will always find him to be the most perfect man on the earth."
Cole chuckled. "And I will always have a spot for Eiji in my heart. But... I can spend my life with a crazy idol."
Ye Jun entangled his fingers in Cole's hair. "You're not an idol, but you're an adorable ball of fluff."
"Watch it." Cole growled in warning. "I am not cute."
"Fair enough." Ye Jun kept playing with the other man's hair. "You're imperfect, unlike my perfect Dae. But somehow? You fit with me like a puzzle."
Cole nodded. "You're not like Eiji, far from him even, but..." He reached upwards and slotted his fingers with Ye Jun's. "You still make a lot of sense to me."
It doesn't go away, it's true. Their hearts will always mourn for the person at the other end of their red string. But for now, they can be there for each other, slotted together like the most imperfect perfect puzzle.
