1.0 What's The Harm In Having A Little Fun?

Alfea was such a beautiful place, and Lily Owens was lucky enough to call it her home. After spending the summer with her mother on Earth, Lily was happy to be back. She had turned sixteen over the summer, meaning she would be starting her first year of training at Alfea. Of course, she grew up there and began to learn to control her ability, but she had a long way to go if she wanted to be a real fairy.

The summer was hard and long. She missed Riven. But, Stella was right. Riven was going to distract her far too much from her studies in the upcoming year. Lily did not think she made a mistake by breaking things off with him, but she wished that she could still be with him. She longed for his touch, his love.

And he felt the same way. The truth was Riven was taking the break up horribly, as everyone had expected. He spent the summer getting drunk and high every single day, simply trying to forget his love for Lily. He tried to sleep with girls, seeing if he could feel the same way he felt when him and Lily had sex, but nothing worked. He needed her back.

But Lily needed to avoid Riven at all costs. She made sure the first place she went to was her new suite. Her uncle had made sure to put Lily in a suite with her cousin, Terra, who was also a first year. He was worried about the both of them, and thought they could look out for each other. An upperclassman is dropped into a room of first years to help them adjust, and Lily was lucky enough to be paired with her best friend, Stella. Stella and Lily spent a lot of time together at Alfea, and Stella looked at Lily as almost a younger sister. Lily was one of the only people that Stella had really opened up to about her mother.

Lily and Stella were assigned to share a room together. Stella had wanted a room all to herself, but she did not hate having to share a room with her best friend. When Lily made her way into the suite, she was met with Terra setting up her plants all around the community space. "Lily!" The earth fairy squealed as she saw her cousin. Terra ran up to Lily and wrapped her arms around her, practically squeezing the life from her body.

"Hi, Terra." Lily responded as she returned the hug.

Terra let out a giggle as she released Lily from her grasp. "How are you? Are you doing alright?" She questioned her cousin, looking deep into her eyes to find a hint of sadness.

Lily nodded before opening her mouth to speak. As soon as she began to answer, she was cut off. "I'm sure she doesn't really want to talk about her ex-boyfriend, Terra." Stella spoke up from behind the two earth fairies. A smile appeared on Lily's face as she turned and wrapped her arms around Stella. "Well, hello to you too." Stella chuckled as she patted her best friend's back.

"I missed you, Stell." Lily leaned into the hug, taking in the very familiar scent of Stella's perfume. It was hard to not have Stella around over the summer.

Stella pulled away from the hug and tucked a loose piece of hair behind Lily's ear. "And I missed you, sweetheart." The blonde haired girl glanced around the suite, looking at all of the other first years. Lily's roommates included Bloom, a fire fairy who was very new to being a fairy, Musa, a mind fairy who seemed very closed off to the rest of the world, Aisha, a water fairy who seemed to have a gigantic stick up her ass, Stella, and Terra. "If I had to room with a first year, I'm glad it happened to be you." Stella grabbed onto one of Lily's suitcases and wheeled it into their shared room.

Lily noticed an open door beside her and poked her head inside. Bloom was seated on her bed, on FaceTime with her parents while Aisha was folding some of her clothes and putting them away. "Hi, I'm Lily." The brunette smiled as she entered the room.

Bloom nodded before her parents spoke through the phone. "Hey, I see a window. Do you have a nice view?" Bloom's father questioned her.

The redheaded girl let out a scoff as she shook her head. "No, the first years have crap views."

"Well, I bet the worst view of the Alps is better than the best view of Gardenia." Bloom's mother returned, causing Aisha to raise an eyebrow. She moved next to Lily, and both of the girls were now watching Bloom.

Bloom looked up at the two and let out a sigh. "What time is it, by the way? It seems bright?" Her father asked her.

Bloom's eyes widened. "Oh... Yeah, actually, um.... It...."

Aisha moved to Bloom's bedside table and started to turn the lamp on and off. "All right. Lights out. Phones off." Aisha sent Lily a smirk.

"Uh... Gotta go, guys." Bloom spoke to her parents over the phone. "I love you."

"Love you too, sweetie." Bloom's father answered before she ended the call and set her phone down on the bed.

She looked up at her roommate and smiled. "You're a lifesaver."

Aisha nodded. "I'll answer to that." She chuckled. "Or to Aisha. Just wanted to get in your good graces so you don't go Lady of the Flies on me."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're gonna what?"

"Nevermind." Bloom giggled, taking a shirt from her suitcase. She began to fold it.

"Do I want to know why they think you're in the alps?" Aisha questioned the redhead.

Bloom let out a sigh. "My parents are both human." She answered the girl. "So, they think that Alfea is an international boarding school in Switzerland."

Aisha furrowed her eyebrows. "Human parents, fairy daughter?"

"Miss Dowling said there's, um, a fairy somewhere in my family tree, like a long-dormant family bloodline." Bloom stood up as she spoke, grabbing more clothes from her suitcase.

Lily moved closer towards Bloom. "My mom lives on Earth, too. She's a fairy, but she wanted to see what it was like there. She ended up liking it better than the Otherworld."

Bloom nodded before a giggle left her lips. The other two cocked their heads. "Sorry. One of these days, I'm going to get used to how absolutely ridiculous this all sounds."

Aisha let out a laugh. "Oh my god. Are you the one person in the universe who's never read Harry Potter?" She asked the girl.

"Who doesn't love Harry Potter. Come on now!" Lily exclaimed, clasping her hands together.

"Please." Bloom shook her head. "If you knew how many hours I have wasted taking Sorting Hat quizzes..."

"Ravenclaw?" Aisha cut her off.

Bloom pursed her lips together as she nodded. "Sometimes Slytherin, yeah."

Aisha went to reach for another shirt to fold. "That explains the lies then." She muttered.

"Hmm." Bloom frowned. "Let me guess. Gryffindor." Aisha nodded, and Bloom grabbed onto her bag of bathroom supplies. "Explains the judgement." She spoke before walking out of the room.

Aisha turned to Lily and narrowed her eyes. "And you're definitely a Hufflepuff."

Lily raised an eyebrow as she giggled. "What? Is it because I love plants?" Aisha shrugged as Lily left the room.

The first day back at Alfea there were no classes being held because of the First Day Orientation Party that was held every year. Lily was dreading it, because she knew Riven would try to find her and talk to her. Stella told all of the suitemates to watch Lily and make sure that she would not be alone with Riven. Stella knew that Lily would not be able to handle that. She worked so hard to get them broken up, and that work would not be in vain.

This plan was all going to work until the faculty found the body of the school's Shepard right past the protection barrier around the school. "Who actually saw the Shepards body?" Terra questioned her friends as they all stood around a small table at the party. "Maybe he was just old. I mean, people get old and die. We all die." She took a drink of the soda in her cup.

Musa chuckled. "Yeah, that old-age decapitation really sneaks up on you." The mind fairy joked, causing Lily to giggle.

"Happened to my name right in the middle of bingo. Just thwop... thwop... thwop.... Right down on the table." Aisha continued Musa's joke, causing the three fairies to laugh together.

Terra noticed how the three girls were already fairly comfortable with each other. She had never been one to make friends fast, but she was hoping this year would be different. Musa noticed Aisha grabbing a huge pile of cookies. "No judgment, but..."

"I eat a million calories a day." Aisha answered her. "If I didn't swim, I'd be massive."

Musa nodded. "I used to swim. I get it."

Aisha picked up a churro. "On that note..." She started, bringing the churro to her mouth.

The mind fairy smirked. "Second round. Damn! Twice a day every day. You weren't kidding." Aisha sent the three girls a nod before leaving them to go for a swim.

Terra crossed her arms over her chest. "So, you did hear her earlier."

Musa had begun to cover her ears with her headphones, but when she heard Terra, she removed them. "What?" She raised her eyebrows.

"In the room..." Terra explained. "You had your headphones on, and ignored me as though you couldn't hear me, but you did hear Aisha."

Lily began to feel uncomfortable with the situation between Musa and Terra. "Sometimes I wear my headphones when I don't feel like talking." Musa explained to Terra very matter-of-factly.

"Yeah." Terra nodded. "It just seems like that happens a lot... around me."

Lily let out a cough and looked around the party. "I'm going to grab a drink." She ran her fingers through her curls. "I'll see you guys later?" She left the two fairies alone, happy to be away from their tension. Lily made her way to the table where a large selection of drinks were laid out.

She let out a sigh and grabbed a cup before she heard someone behind her. "Do you want something a little stronger than soda?" The girl felt her body tense up when she realized it was Riven behind her.

Lily quickly turned around, clutching her empty glass to her chest. "Hey, Riv." She sent him a smile. "How was your summer?"

"How was my summer?" Riven let out a scoff before running his tongue across his bottom lip. "You don't see me for three months, and that's the first thing you say to me?"

"Oh, I- I didn't mean-"

Riven chuckled, moving closer towards his ex-girlfriend. "I'm joking, Lil. My summer was alright. I missed you, though." Riven seemed different. He had a new energy surrounding him. Everything was so much darker than it was before, and Lily knew it was her fault. She broke his heart. "How was Earth?" He leaned against the table behind him.

The girl shrugged. "Earth is Earth."

"Yeah." Riven spoke as he began to unscrew the cover to his flask. He brought it to his mouth, taking in a bit of the alcohol inside of it. As he brought it down, he raised an eyebrow at the girl beside him. "But seriously, you want some?"

Lily shook her head. "I shouldn't." She responded, beginning to turn away.

"Come on, what's the harm of having a little fun?"

*

About forty-five minutes and a large amount of alcohol ingested later, Lily and Riven were completely wasted. It certainly helped with the breakup tension between them, but it was not making staying away from Riven easier for Lily. The two had made their way out of the hoard of people and into a quieter corridor. Lily leaned her back against a column and let out a sigh. Lily looked down at the ground. "My plan for the night was to avoid you. Not get drunk with you."

"Well, I think you've failed at that miserably." Riven chuckled as he closed the space between them. Lily glanced back up at Riven and bit her lip softly. "I mean, it's hard to stay away from you, especially when you look like this." His hands landed on the girl's waist.

The girl frowned, placing her hands on Riven's. "Riv."

Riven shook his head, his hands moving up her body to cup her cheeks. "Come on, baby. I know you miss me. You wouldn't be here if you didn't." He had a point. She did miss him, but this was a horrible idea. At the moment, though, she didn't really care. "I need you, Lil." As he spoke, Riven trailed his thumb across Lily's bottom lip, causing her to softly smile. The boy brought his lips to Lily's, and her hands flew into Riven's hair. Riven's hands ran down her body until they reached her hips. Lily let out a gasp as he felt her back hit the column behind. She let out a chuckle as Riven began to kiss down her neck. "Fuck, baby. You have no idea how much I missed you." He spoke in between kisses.

"Don't talk." Lily shook her head as she brought his head back to her lips. Riven's grip moved down to Lily's thighs, and she jumped, her legs wrapping around the boy's waist.

She had missed this feeling. Being with him. Her entire body felt like it was on fire. Lily loved this boy more than anything in the world.

But that was the problem.

Lily quickly pulled away from the kiss, Riven's eyes locking with hers. "What? What's wrong, baby." The boy searched her brown doe eyes for an unspoken answer.

"Riv, nothing has-"

"Uh... Lily, I thought I told you to stay with the girls."

Lily's eyes widened as Riven slowly set her back down on the ground. She turned to see Stella standing before them with her arms crossed. "Hey, Stella." Riven choked as he rested his elbow above Lily's head on the column.

Stella cocked an eyebrow before rushing towards Lily. She grabbed onto the brunette's hand. "Are you drunk?" Stella stared into Lily's eyes, noticing her daze. Her gaze snapped back up to Riven, and she frowned. "You and I are going to have a chat later, okay Riv?" Riven took in a gulp as he nodded.
