Someone's a Little Late

Icy wandered around the nursery, her new home, curiously.

It felt a bit odd to have so much space now, after being cramped together in a small egg for who knows how long. Being so used to darkness and little space, especially when that's all you've seen for a few moons, being outside in the world feels strange.

She wasn't complaining though.

She poked around, exploring her new surroundings, her dark tipped ears and tail high in the air. The older pokemon watched her with murmurs of amusement. Icy wasn't alone there, however, there were many other eevees and eggs in the nursery. Some of the fluffy, brown furred pokemon were only a few weeks older while others were moons old already!

"I am going to have so many friends!" She thought jubilantly.

Heading back to her mothet, to tell her about all the new things she saw today, she paused abruptly. "What's that?" She thought, noticing something small and round nuzzled close to her mum's belly.

"An egg?" She murmured to herself, head tilted as she began to trot over to it. She looked at it a while longer, wondering why she never noticed it in all the seven days of her being in the nursery, exploring and playing.

"This is your little sibling."

The little eevee's eyes lit up in realization. The realization morphed into happiness and she could barely contain her excitement, "Ohh, I'm going to have a sister! Or brother!" Crystal smiled and chuckled, "Yes you will, Icy."

After every meal and quick exploration around the nursery, Icy waited patiently by the egg. Waiting for it to hatch.

"When are they going to hatch? Is it going to take moons, like I did? Probably not, mommy said they were going to come out soon. But when is soon?" These are some of the thoughts she would have.

Along with her thinking, she would have one-sided conversations with it or tell it stories (Very exaggerated ones at that!) about her adventures in the nursery.

The older glaceons and eevees would watch in amusement, along with her mother. "She'll make a fine glaceon one day, along with her sibling." Commented another queen, whose litter was almost old enough to be out of the nursery. She then added in a more snarky tone, "That is when they hatch." "Don't become impatient, Snowfall, it's her litter not yours." Warned a more experience queen, Snowfall, leaving Glacia to only huff impatiently.

But would you really try to contradict your superiors? Nooooooo. Point proven, let's get back to Icy.

One week had passed, and it felt like entire moons of eternal waiting. But she didn't lose her joyous attitude, waiting patently beside the egg. In the later days, it would sometimes shake, but never did quite begin it's hatching. Until the ninth day.

While doing it's usual bout of quivering, Icy watched with patient, but excited eyes. Each and every time it shook, no matter if it had done so before with no avail, she would feel her heart quicken at the thought of very soon having a sibling.

And today was when her excitement and patience was repaid.

It wasn't even a suspenseful, nerve-racking hatch; Nope, just the opposite.

The sleek, pale egg shivered vigorously. And then, without a warning's moment, it shattered into little pieces of egg shell as the furry, brown eevee tumbled out. The elder eevee (but not by much!) jumped up and down joyfully, "Hello, little brother!" "Hewo!" The little eevee replied back, mirroring Icy's jumping of excitement.

Crystal's bright blue eyes glowed with pride and love, as she watched her two pups interact with each other. "What will you name him?" She glanced at the other glaceons she had been chatting with, each of them either watching her or the pups. Her gaze went back onto the energetic little eevee, looking thoughtfully at him.

"Neptune," She announced decidedly, warmth in her voice as she gazed at her children lovingly, "I shall name my son Neptune."
