BHANGRA IS A TRADITIONAL ART FORM.

Just because it's more "preppy" does not mean it's not. It's been a part of punjabi culture for years. I'm so sick of people acting like it's some drunk uncle thing when it's just as traditional as every Madhuri Dixit dance.

I'm sick of Bollywood poorly protraying bhangra. Bhangra isn't a few leaps in the air and waving your hands in the air. It's so much more. It requires so much energy, dedication and training. And I'm so tired of bollywood (and wattpad to some extent) acting as if it's an easy dance.

Mean like for traditional numbers - like Mohe Rang Dolal, they manage to teach Deepika all the dance moves which actually make sense in the dance form. Punjabi people are stuck with "bhangra songs" with lyrics like 'balle balle on a sunday sunday."

Why is it so hard to understand the fact bhangra is just as traditional as every single other dance form in India? Why can't you guys grasp bhangra isn't just a bunch of light bulbs in the air, it requires so much dedication?

Bhangra isn't a fucking joke. I'm sick of it all.

Now where in bollywood do you see brown people doing ACTUAL bhangra in its original dance form?

Also Sikh people aren't some mix of Hinduism and Islam. In fact, we believe in only one god (aka not hindusm), rebirth (aka not Islam), not cutting our hair and keeping our bodies the way waheguru gave it to us (how would you even get islam or hindusm from here??), in equality (so no cast system, zero sexism - we actually don't even use pronouns in the Shri Guru Granth Sahib - and in forgiving everyone regardless of their mistakes) and so much more. Sikhi is such a beautiful religion and I'm so sick of the most representation sadars get is as the comic relief.

And yes, you guys have contributed to anti Sikh stuff as well. Keep in mind when you're writing a sikh character, we do not have hindu weddings. We don't do sat phere, we do four around the shri guru granth shahib in a gurdwara. We do not go to hindu temples or tie threads around trees (I'm looking at you The Flying Piece of shit). We do not cut our hair. We do not hold fasts (especially on karva chaut because that holds some sexist undertones as well) - EVER.

So the next you write about some Singh or a Kaur, make sure you keep these in mind. Ask me questions. I'll always try my absolute best to help you out.

And it's even more sad when you realize not only do Sikh people have their culture erase in India, we get out culture erased in goriyan countries. Most of the time, sikhs get mistaken for muslims. And yes, sikhs do get islamaphobic comments a lot - yet no one in the muslim community discusses it. I'm not trying to throw you guys under the bus but honestly, people need to understand that sikhs face Islamophobia and our Islamophobia is also an erasure of our religion.

It's as if you guys want to jam out to Kaala Chasma, yodel bhangra everywhere, use Punjabi swears, listen to ikk khudi (which was a poem in Gurmukhi), talk about punjabi singers and aritists but as soon as i say the word 1984, you guys are all out of the window.
