Chapter 2

It's been about two months since Ryan's accident. I would end up calling the hospital that he was staying at, about four or five times a day. All they would tell me was that Ryan was in critical condition and that he wasn't ready for any outside contact. Every time. Even though I would call several times a day, the same receptionist answered every time. She was understanding and would be patient with me once she realized who it was on the other line.

Brendon sold his house and bought another one after the incident that took place. He told me that he was already looking to buy another one anyway. He says that the memories of that day and even memories of Sarah beforehand were all too much for him to handle. I think starting fresh is good for him. For all of us.

The move took our minds off of everything for a little while. I was able to help Brendon arrange everything in his house and unpack. It was tiring work, but it was something to do. Brendon was my only support throughout all of this, and I appreciated him with all of my heart. We've gotten closer. A lot closer. Just like when we were younger, but more. I guess you could say that we were dating now. There was no question, it just sort of...happened.

Not everything has been all bad. The hospital did tell me that Ryan was improving a lot the past few days. So I'm hoping that I could go and see him soon. And Brendon and I were happy. We were content. At least when I wasnt thinking about Ryan.

~~~
"Hannah." I feel Brendon shaking me as I was fully encased in my blanket and pillow fort on his bed. I flip onto my other side groaning. Maybe they'll get the message that I don't want to be bothered. "Come on. It's one in the afternoon."
"And your eyes are not the size of the moon." I couldn't resist the urge. It was too perfect.
Brendon just laughed at me and plopped himself onto the bed next to me, knocking over some of my pillows.
"You've gotta get up." He says and he shakes me some more. It took me much longer than I'd like to admit to build this godamn fort and he's ruining it.
"I don't want to." I groan again. "I just want to live my life under these covers." Mostly because they smelt of Brendon and it reminded me of his comfort and warmth.
"Alright," his weight was lifted from the bed. "I guess that I'll have to drink your morning coffee and withhold some crucial information from you."
I sit up immediately. Crucial information? About Ryan perhaps? Is he okay?
"You wouldn't." I narrow my eyes towards him, and all he did in response was laugh. He walked over to me and kissed my cheek before walking out of the bedroom without another word.
Knowing Brendon he will keep that information to himself until I exit the room. So I had no choice but to get up from my now torn apart pillow and blanket fort.
I sit up in the bed and place my feet on the soft carpet underneath me. I wonder if Brendon would mind if I wore some of his clothes. Maybe just a tee shirt or something would do. A total cliché, I know. But all of the clothes that I had brought over were all dirty and in a pile in the corner of his room. I've been too mentally exhausted to do laundry. Though I could probably get away with wearing some leggings again.
Walking over to his closet, I realized that all he really had in there was all of his nicer clothes. The dress pants and suspenders hung with his patterned button ups. He also had a few suits hanging up as well. But there was one thing that had caught my eye. In the corner of the closet on the floor, there was a fairly big box.
Upon opening it, I discovered that he had all of his theatrical costumes folded all nice and neat, with his hats laying on top of it. Jackpot.
~~~

The jacket was too big on me. The sleeves extended way past my hands and the little trinkets attached, jingled with every step. The top hat was slowly slipped down my face and covering my eyes. In my opinion, it looked a little odd with leggings, but thats what will make it an even better reaction.

As quietly as I could, I walked down the stairs. Every little step was noisy, but thankfully Genevieve had the television volume up a moderate amount. I peaked around the corner to peer into the kitchen where I was distracted by the smell of bacon and pancakes. Brendon's back was turned towards me as he was humming to himself and flipping pancakes.

Eve glanced back at Brendon to speak, but her eyes stopped as she saw me on the stairs. I brought my index finger to my lips to signal her to stay quiet. She nodded and withheld a laugh.

"Hey Brendon?" She asked, turning her head towards the kitchen where Brendon stood. She had a giant grin on her face.

"Yeah?" I hear him say back. I didn't want to risk him seeing me, so I'm unsure if he turned to look at her.

"Didn't you say Hannah would be right down?" My eyes widen as I realized what she was doing. I was just going to sneak up on him. "I'm starving. I think you should just carry her down instead." Eve said with a chuckle. She glances back at me for a second, holding in a laugh as I'm aggressively signaling her that its not what I was planning on doing.

"She should be down soon." He says and continues humming to himself. I think I'm in the clear. I take another step down but Eve opens her mouth back up to speak and I freeze, unaware if she'll blow my cover.

"Maybe you should go and check on her. See if she fell back to sleep." She laughed and turned back to face the television. Shit. I guess I'm gonna have to improvise.

"Good idea." He replies. No. Not a good idea. "Keep and eye on the food will you?" He asked; his head turned toward Genevieve as he walked closer to the stairs. He hasn't noticed me. Time to take a chance. I quickly jump into his arms and he is taken aback as he struggles to not let me go.

"Woah! Mona Lisa!" I wanted to make a reference to the song as I'm wearing his outfit. But all my witty references just flew out the window. "I would definitely pay to see you frown." I cringed the moment it left my mouth. But I rolled with it and even added a wink for an after affect.

"You nearly scared me to death!" Brendon says letting me go. I just smile at him and the top hat slides down over my eyes. He chuckles and slowly lifts up the hat to reveal my face. "Now, we need to keep that beautiful work of art in the open. We can't just cover it up."

"You're so cheesy." My cheeks burn up as I look away from him, hoping he wouldn't see how much I was blushing. His hand caressed my cheek and he turned my head back towards him before placing his lips on mine. There will never be a time where I won't melt with the touch of his soft lips.

"You know, you guys are cute and all, but Im still here!" Genevieve says laughing. I can feel Brendon smiling before he breaks away. Unfortunately. A part of me wishes that Eve wasn't in the room so I could feel his touch a little more.

"Sorry Eve." Brendon says. "Time to eat!" He smiles and kisses my cheek before heading back into the kitchen.

"Thank God!" Eve follows Brendon, eagerly awaiting a plate. "Im starving!"

Once everyone had their plates and started eat, Brendon spoke up. "So the news I told you about," he looks up at me, "before you go running back upstairs to grab your phone to call the hospital, I already did."

"Any word on him?" The fork I was holding drops from my hand, clanging against the plate in front of me.

"Good news. He's doing a lot better." A feeling of relief washed over me. "And even better news, we can go an visit him today."

My eyes widen and I nearly fall out of my chair as I stand up. "Really? We need to leave right now!"

"Not in those clothes." Brendon says taking a sip out of his coffee.

"What? I'm not good enough to wear these?" I place my hands upon my hips and stare at him.

"Hey, you said it, not me." He puts his hands up in surrender and smiles his goofy smile.

"Asshole." I smack his arm and get up to get dressed. "Eve, watch him for me? Make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." I smirk in Brendons direction. Genevieve smiles and puts her hand by her forehead in a salute.

"Aye aye Captain." I laugh to myself and run upstairs. I go back into Brendons closet and pull out a pair of his skinny jeans and a 'Beatles' tee shirt. Running into the bathroom, I fix my hair and my make-up before I look presentable.

I go back downstairs and find Gevevieve is hoisted over Brendons shoulder. She is screaming to be put down. Brendon is laughing, but stops dead as he sees me at the base of the stairs. He then quickly drops her onto the couch and points an accusing finger in her direction. "She started it."

"Why do I somehow not believe you?" I cross my arms and walk towards him.

"Um... I don't know."

"Exactly." I turn to the table next to the door and throw Brendon his keys. "Can we go see Ryan now?"

Brendon sighs before following me out the door. "Alright fine." Genevieve followed close behind.

I try not to think about what could have happened to him. I don't want to assume the worst. Which I normally do, but I'm gonna try not to this time. And it wasn't working very well, lets just say.

"How about some music?" Brendon turns on the radio and starts flipping through the stations. I grab his hand and stop him from going any further. I start singing to 'Jump In The Line' by Harry Belafonte. And then before I know it, we arrive at the hospital. I turn the radio off and breath in a sigh before stepping out of the car.
