Chapter 6: Teammate Trouble

Chapter 6

Teammate Trouble

-Griffin-

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"Are we the-"

"Liam, shut the hell up!" I shouted.

Liam had been doing this for ten minutes straight. It was annoying. He snickered. He opened his mouth to say something.

"If you say another word from now until we find somewhere to have lunch," Zoey shot Liam a death glare,"I will break every bone in your body with my bare hands, savoring every scream and broken bone. I will then slowly drown you. And when you think you can come up for air, you'll be plunged back down with a bag over your head and a rock beating down on your skull. Then, the Spearows can have your body. And I'll be laughing the entire time."

Liam looked like a pissed himself. He probably did. Even I got a little shiver from that threat. Glad we decided to let her come along. She could get Liam to shut up though.

"This looks like a nice spot." I pointed to a nice patch of grass from the side of the road.

"It'll do." Zoey said as she threw her bag to the ground.

"How do people like their sandwiches?" I asked as I got lunch supplies out.

"I'm very much capable of putting a sandwich together myself. Thank you." Zoey pointed out.

"Why do you do that?" I exclaimed.

"Do what?"

"You put on this tough girl act all the time thinking that you don't need anyone. Thinking your too good for people. I'm just asking because I want to be nice. The last few hours of walking has been silence, glares, and death threats. So could you please lighten up a little bit?"

"I didn't ask for you two idiots to come along with me!"

"We saved your life!"

"I would have been fine on my own!"

"Can I talk now?" Liam squeaked.

"No!" Zoey and I shouted simultaneously.

"I don't need you or anyone else. I've taken care of myself for a long time now. You two are just going to slow me down. Screw you, I'm leaving. It was terrible idea to even think to let you come along. Jolteon, lets go."

Jolteon barked a sad goodbye to Umbreon. Jolteon bounded to her master's feet. Zoey swung her bag over her shoulder and started down the road.

"Do we go after her?" Liam asked.

I rested my head in my hands. "I don't know, man. I don't know."

We put together some sandwiches and ate them in silence. It had only been a few hours and we had gained and lost a teammate. Not surprised though. Zoey Sparks doesn't come off as friendly. If I could describe her in one word it would be-

-Zoey-

Stupid! That's what they are! Stupid and annoying! They think they just prod their way into my life and force me to became their friend? Well its not happening. I don't need them. I don't need anyone. Just me and my Pokemon. That's what matters. That's all that has ever mattered.

I stomped down the dirt road with Jolteon following at my heels. Shinx snored softly on my shoulder. Cuddling with my long hair.

Jolteon hopped in front of me.

"Jolt, Jolteon, jol, teon." She barked. She raised her daisy furred paw and pointed behind me.

I snorted. "Sorry, we aren't going back we don't need them. We don't owe them anything."

Jolteon narrowed her eyes at me. "Jolteon."

"I don't owe them my life! I would've been fine on my own."

"Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" A young voice screeched.

"Some kid's in trouble!"

I ran into the thick woods along the side of the road. I batted away branched and hurtled over fallen logs and stumps as I sprinted deeper in the trees. Shinx was now awake and he clung to my jacket.

I reached a clearing and saw a little girl hanging onto a tree branch. A ginormous purple serpent lay below the tree. An Arbok no doubt. The little girl had tears welled up in her eyes and curly red hair. A Pokeball rested not to far from the tree.

"Hey, leave her alone!" I shouted.

The Arbok hissed and rattled its tail. It lunged at me. I jumped to the side along with me Pokemon.

"Keep it company as I get the girl." I ordered. Shinx leapt off of my shoulder at stood by Jolteon.

I ran to the child.

"Come on, its okay, I'll protect you. Just come down." I called to the girl on the branch.

"I'm scared." She squeaked.

"I'll catch you."

She let go of the branch and screamed. She fell into my arms. She got on her feet and hid behind me.

Arbok rammed Shinx and Jolteon with its massive tail. The two went flying into the bushes. Arbok glared us down. The serpent quickly whipped its tail at us. What looked like purple needles shot out of the tail. Poison Sting. I pushed the girl out of the line of fire. The needles punctured the bark of the tree behind us. A needle found its way to my right ankle.

Pain immediately coursed through my body. I screamed in agony. The skin where the Poison Sting hit felt like it was on fire. I tore out the stinger and moaned in pain on the ground.

Shinx and Jolteon dashed out from the bushes and shielded me. Arbok hissed. The ground below it started to shake. The forest floor exploded and a Krokorok had thrown the Poison-Type in the air.

"Umbreon, Dark Pulse!"

Pure dark energy struck the Arbok as it was in mid air. The attack sent it deep into the forest. Griffin and Liam came running towards me. Liam went to the girl and handed her the dropped the Pokeball. Griffin crouched at my legs. He looked at my wound while I was looking at him. They saved me. They came back and saved me and the little girl.

"We don't have any Antidotes." Griffin glanced at Liam.

"Sarah's house isn't too far away from here. Her mother has medical supplies." Liam replied.

"Okay. Zoey, grab on." Griffin turned his back to me and got in a piggyback position.

I wanted to protest but opted not to. I reluctantly threw my arms around his neck and allowed him to grab ahold of my legs. I winced when he stood up. The pain in my leg was getting worse.

"Follow me!" Sarah said. We all ran down a dirt path deeper into the woods.

Wind ran through my hair. My vision was blurring and my grip on Griffin was loosening. I slowly slipped away into blackness.

-Griffin-

"Put her here!" Sarah's mother pointed to the bed.

I carefully set the unconscious Zoey on the bed. Susan, Sarah's mother, inspected the sting. She clucked her tongue and looked at me.

"There's a syringe with yellow liquid in the bathroom. Please get it." She ordered.

I ran down the hall and found the bathroom. Pulled on a drawer and rummaged through the various medicines. I spotted the syringe and pulled it out. I sprinted back to the bedroom and gave Susan the syringe.

She injected the liquid into the wound and went to work on it. When she was done Zoey had a white bandage wrapped around her ankle.

"She just needs rest now. Stay as long as you like," Susan said,"I can't thank you enough for saving my daughter."

"No problem." Liam replied.

We left Zoey to her resting. Sarah shyly thanked us and went to help her mother in the kitchen. The house was big yet cozy and felt small. I sank into the couch they had in the living room.

Umbreon rested at my heels. My only thoughts were if Zoey was going to be okay or what would have happened if we didn't get there fast enough. Or if we didn't care to go look for her at all. My thoughts always lead to one thing, hoping that Zoey would be alright.

Author note: Yeah! Giant purple poison snakes! I don't have much say. Whaddya tink of da chapta? Huh? Good, bad, meh? I enjoyed writing it. I also wanted to say that Edge of War will be my main priority when it comes to typing and updating. I still need to sort some things out with Demon Slayer. I enjoy writing this book a little bit more and I have no intention of giving up on Demon Slayer.
